[Q] Could someone make a flashing guide ? - Sprint LG G2

Could someone make a flashing guide? There's seems to be a lot of confusion about how to flash specific roms, and the devs don't seem to know either. I've been with android from G1 days, and had phones with locked bootloaders, but this phone is something different. I've bricked about five or six time, I've lost count. All of the flashing instructions say " boot into recovery, wipe data, cache, system, flash rom, and profit. But you follow those, and you brick. Just check the troubleshooting threads, I've never seen so many bricked topics, and I've rooted plenty of devices, from different manufactures, and carriers. Obviously there's some miscommunication going on, or we're all freaking idiots. If a certain radio is required, then post that along with the build, and with the proper instructions. The other thing is that nobody talks about if your already on ZVE, and what you have to do to enjoy the benefits of a custom build. Is there still rom development on this phone. None of the builds seem to go past ZVC. What happened to the " All in one " threads, where everything you needed was in one place, just to make life a little easier. For those of us who are employed, and raising families, and don't have time to spend reading for hours, just to flash a rom. I know it's not the devs fault, I'm just saying I'm just asking for some clarity, and not for it to end with " I think, I'm not really sure ", secret.animal seems to be the only one trying to bring some clarity for members, but he/she can't do it alone. I'm tired of bricking and flashing back to stock. I want to profit to

I can make a flashing guide, most if not all the devs have left to new phones. Yes there are no zve roms which is a shame. I and a g3 developer are trying to build a sprint based g3 rom instead of them being based on international roms
Sent from my LG-LS980 using XDA Free mobile app

I kinda figured they were on other projects, this phone is old from a technological standpoint. The G3 has to be super. I would love a guide, just to get familiar with the process, and the do's and don't.

I'm working on trying to bring cm12 unofficial directly to sprint forum. Just haven't gotten a build yet. And when I do, maybe I can learn and play to make a zve or something. I'm here for another year. Lol contract

Great, when flashing rom, modem, and firmware, what order should it be flashed.
Sent from my LG-LS980 using xda app-developers app

1. ***MAKE A BACKUP*** If the modem does not flash properly (i.e. ROM won't boot) you can restore. If modem flashes and ROM boots, you CANNOT restore any ZVA or zvc ROM without downgrading your modem which is in autoprime’s thread here: Flashable Modem Zips [All G2 Variants]
2. Flash ROM. (Wipe cache, data, system, then flash ROM)
3. Flash Modem in SAME Recovery session.
4. IF SUCCESSFUL, reboot to System.
5. After successful boot, reboot to Recovery.
6. Flash Firmware boot to System.
7. Profit.
Per zvc d3rp @mrrogers1
Does this help.

If your flashing any cm11 or cm12 based roms you will need to tot Zv8, then root install custom recovery, wipe everything but internal data, then flash cm11 or cm12 and gapps then you will boot up just fine. If you want to install stock roms or roms based off the international versions (the multi variants) you can use zve just root it with stump, install custom recovery, wipe everything in recovery except internal data, then flash rom you will be able to use sprint spark in most roms. Hopefully this will help you but of you need more help let me know.

Sent from my LG-LS980 using XDA Free mobile app

Yes, that's how I unlocked any other bootloader in the past, but no one ever mentioned that on these forums. I'm already rooted on ZVE, but to drive CM, I need to downgrade to ZV8, correct. It's funny, a lot of the features on Android now, you had to root and hack when Android first dropped, and I'm talking Cupcake 1.1. To me the devs made Android what it is today, by showing Google and the manufactures the possibilities of Android. Even some manufactures assisted in the unlocking of bootloaders. I always buy my phones, so I should be able to do what I want to it. I would always buy Google devices, because they've kinda support hacking and the whole bit. I stopped when Google changed from HTC, to Samsung, for the manufacturing, they where crap until the S1, or S2, Motorola started all this locked bootloader crap, after promising to make devices hacker friendly, now everyone else has joined the wave. I might start purchasing phones from the Chinese.

Yes, use auto-rec to get twrp and that. Get the zv8 modem, grab the new TWRP on the cm12 thread. Flash new TWRP.
Reboot recovery, wipe flash ROM, flashv zv8, flash gapps.

You forgot that you must update TWRP, to the latest. I have all those things, just needed straightforward flash procedure. The last step, you mentioned firmware, what are you referring to. I also have two versions of TWRP, Bumped and Openrec, which do you suggest. Thanks for the help, and enjoy the New Year, and happy flashing.

I'm running 2.8.3.1 in which it is bumped with support for f2fs. No Roms are complete f2fs yet.
Firmware was when they went from zva to zvc. There was a firmware update. Zvd and zve there haven't been much change. I think that is also why people haven't updated any Roms to use it.

AT&T imei issues?

How common is this I would likevcto flash some roms and all that good stuff. I have been reading about people phones not working after rooting and applying a Rom. Should I be worried ? Should I wait? And if it's all good any methods that worked cleanly for other people ? Thanks in advance
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
Any help greatly appreciated ready to flash away
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
I wouldn't say its very common as there are tons of people flashing and we dont hear about half the forum crying about corrupting their imei, thats not to say that its a non issue though. As you can probably see from the numerous threads (main one in the att development). Its advisable to wait, but with any flash you know the risk you are taking.
I was actually holding off till yesterday, ended up just saying eff it and flashed, did the non trip rooting, flashed the latest cwm from the official cwm site. Flashed Aokp, no imei wipe (was scared ****less the whole time though ) Decided i didnt even like the AOKP rom and flashed my carriers stock rom again through odin, So far so good.
However in the future im waiting for a full solution to this imei problem before i root or flash again. :good:
Id say just read the threads, if you understand the risks and want to proceed go ahead. good luck
So you went through all the steps and your fine? Thanks I may wait A week or so the stock Rom is actual nice I just like to try new stuff

yeah man i say check out the stock first, if you can wait, wait. The stock rom is best i find. and yes i followed all the steps, downloaded the latest cwm from the rom manager site and whatnot. pushed the cwm through terminal emulator on the phone.

i flashed my phone with the original at&t root method (which increased flash counter). since then, i've flashed the stock rom (UCALEM) to get non-modified status, reset the flash counter, and flashed the stock update rom (UCALG1) with no problems so far. i wasn't even aware of the imei issues until poking around the forums the other day. i suppose ignorance really is bliss.
---------- Post added at 08:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:00 PM ----------
i should add.. i used the stock root injected roms (after the initial flash) from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
So ish there a chance even if we follow AT&T stuff directly? I've never heard of this happening I've had and flashed a lot of phones and never heard of such a thing should we worry or what I wanna flash but don't won't a brick

i think there's always the chance... but you can reduce that chance significantly if you read up and follow the directions.

[Q] Moving from Paranoid Android 3.68 to 3.98 (Android 4.2.2 to 4.3)

I tired to ask this question in the dedicated thread for PA, however, apparently I am too new to post in that subform...
I follow PA via Google+, and a while I have seen them mentioning the flashing of radios, and bootloaders.
This is my first and only ROM I've ever flashed. So I still consider myself very new. Can anyone confirm if I can just go into Clockwork Mod and flash the latest PA ROM and PA GApps as I had done prior for several versions? Or do I have to update my radio and bootloader?
If the radio and bootloader are required - How would I do this? I don't think I did this even the first time - unless I just don't know the terminology.
In the G+ Community, I was lucky enough to be helped and told I should be able to just flash the two zip files (PA and PA GApps) but I'd have to do a factory reset. Others say the radio/bootloader may be needed.
I'd like some clarification if possible! This being my phone, I always get rather cautious about doing anything to it. Finally unlocking and rooting it was unnerving enough!
I didn't flash the boot loader right away, I would do a clean wipe though, what phone?

What I meant was it wasn't required for me to flash to 3.98, I only did it a few days ago because I had a flashable zip file of it, but I have been running 3.9 builds fine without it

well i was instructed how to properly update which i knew how to but wasn't quite sure about boot-loaders. but what gets me is i flashed the factory image and even on stock with no root, no rom, no kernel i had issues with network dropping, FC'ing apps, random reboots daily, Samsung Knox still causing issues daily (i deleted all apk + odex), only Philz recovery decided to work too TWRP 2.7 4.4 Boot loader edition wont work for anything nothing gets applied at all in that recovery. The only good thing KK has given me is slightly better battery.
YET on 4.3:
Stable, Works, No Samsung Knox issues, Working Recoveries, No network issues, No audio crackling issues
The only reason im still on KitKat is the fact that im waiting for a ROM that will be actually good that's near stock and odexed.
I rooted and updated using the cf easy update. Followed all steps. Noticed there was no network so I switched Sims, still no network. I factory reset , still no network. So I tried flashing just the new modem all via Odin 3.09 still nothing.

Hit thanks by accident. ...but I was gonna say I had the opposite experience. ...got my n3 from tmo about 3 weeks ago with 4.3 and had random reboots. ...no root or custom recovery. ..jumped on kitkat when it dropped and rooted, debloated and threw custom recovery on it and now No reboots, wifi issues, imei loss, or any of the other issues I've seen people report.
I remember back in my og evo days on one of the forums....that suddenly it arose that many people thought they were doing full wipes and turned out their idea of full wipe meant cache and dalvik.....they didn't realize they needed to wipe system and data......so my point is that there usually tends to be issues based on people's different approaches to upgrading though they swear they followed directions.

You shouldn't have to that zip I posted (linked earlier in this thread) clears the efs so th phone can rebuild it on boot. Samsung must have gotten sick of getting corrupted efs phones for warranty service so they built in a method for the phone to restore it. Problem is it only works once the efs has been cleared. As mentioned before it is at your own risk but I can confirm it worked for me .

1. If you are using an unofficial version of a rom then please check if it has know issues. (the developer usually lists them on the rom page)
2. Use Odin to reflash your original files.
3. They are available. Just search for them on google with your model number.
4. This should solve your signal problem.
5. Now reroot following a proper guide.
6. Flash an official version of a rom or if not available a rom with lesser issues. Current many unofficial kitkat ports have signal problems and blue tooth problems.

[Q] New to Rooting, S4 M919 4.3 MK2 Tmobile Knox

Whoa, this has got to be one of the most unorganized forums on the internet. LoL, sorry, its just soooo hard to find clear, up to date info, that I had to make a thread here.
I basically decided its time to update my phone and I want to root it, mainly to get battery savings and stop google from running all those apps in the background (who knows what info they are gathering).
Anyways, like the title states,
I'm on Tmobile, with a M919 on 4.3 with MK2, I would like to go to kitkat and root and NOT TRIP KNOX, if possible.
I'd also be interested in custom roms, if possible, like CyanogenMod... But of course, I'd like to keep my warranty, as I've already had to use it once, and I still have 2 whole months left and wifi is acting up (I get a lot of unstable wifi messages recently, didn't check my router yet but my laptop is working fine....)
Your help is appreciated.
Thx
ohh, my wife's phone is on 4.2.2, she is due for an update too, she wants the emoticons so that's one "major" reason to update...
Perhaps I can switch phones with her, and update that one to a rooted 4.4.2 without tripping knox, if possible?? Please point me in the right direction... I also like many of the features that dbombmod rom has, like call recording and more..

cool thanks, I will read up on safe root, but it looks like it may work. So once I'm rooted, I can install any rom right, even the 4.4.2 with knox removed and it would be fine right? And also the NB4 modem as well, and any kernel too?
My wife is hesistant to switch with me now because of the wifi unstable issue I have. I think I may have fixed it by clearing the Wifi Direct and Wifi Direct apps cache and data. Hopefully it is only a software problem, and not a hardware problem.
oyyy, after further reading, this does root the phone, but doesn't unlock the bootloader, and without an unlocked bootloader you cannot install custom roms, but I still didn't read if I can install another modem or another kernel???
what about towelroot? Does that unlock the bootloader?
tried towelroot on 4.3...
didn't work
updated to 4.4.2,
still doesn't work
ughhh
ohhh well, I guess I will switch phones with wife...
Lol. You can still download custom ROMs with a locked bootloader. If you do flash the NB4 modem you will definately trip KNOX. If you flash a non stock kernel you will trip KNOX and if you flash a custom recovery you will trip KNOX.

I finished setting up my old phone for my wife. I "Turned off" many of the apps that are installed that we never use, so her battery should do ok on 4.4.2
I just did towelroot on her phone, and it has instant root access, no reboot required or anything. Root Checker says I have root already. yay. Now I guess I need to update with modded firmware. Is there any particular order I have to install stuff?
Can I start with the rom, then modem, then kernel or is there a particular order I need to install stuff. And what should I use, odin or what?

You can flashbin any order. Some ROMs come with a kernel that they recommend but you can flash a different one if you prefer. If you DL Titanium Backup from the play store you can freeze any unwanted apps completely instead of just turning them off.

just to clarify, I did the towel root on her old phone on 4.2.2 which is my phone now.
towelroot didn't work on 4.3 nor 4.4.2
I just did a wipe on the 4.2.2 with clockworkmod setup and tried to install the fenny stock 4.4.2 rom and it came up with an error, something about expects 5 args got 4
should I use odin or something?

turn off Google now as well if she doesn't use it, saves a ton of battery! and you just flash the ROM and then the modem, kernel is in the rom.. read the guides on how to flash the NB4 modem on older bootloader, and read OP of the ROM you are flashing, there should be flashing instructions for you too, good luck!

Thanks, I searched and found out that TWRP is the way to go. I used flashify to install it and I was able to flash the new rom. Works good. I also got call recording to work, but not with wifi calls, is that something that never worked or its just a bug in my phone? I'm thinking of trying other roms to see if they got call recording with wifi calls, but that would take a lot of time.
I also did install the NB4 modem flash (twice like the instructions said) and its good, got 2 extra bars (but I doubt my signal got any better, they just want you to see more bars)

Interesting. Not sure what's different, but towelroot did work on my wife's MK2 4.3. Titanium Backup confirmed root and AdAway works so it would seem root access is there.

Completely stock TouchWiz 4.3. OTA update took it from 4.2 to 4.3. It's my wife's phone and she never had any desire for anything custom on it. The only reason I rooted it now was she asked if there was any way to block ads.

Flashing Kernel on OG5 5.1.1
I recently updated to the Sprint 5.1.1 and tried to root using odin and did not achieve root. However, now the phone gives an error when trying to do OTA update. How do I flash this kernel? Do I use odin to flash it or do I use the regular recovery

The kernel is flashed in TWRP recovery. Odin that, making sure you've selected the option to disable OEM lock in Odin 3.10.6 and do not select auto reboot. When done with the TWRP Odin flash, pull USB and battery, wait 30 seconds, reboot to recovery and flash kernel.
Are you having trouble with Odin or boot? CF Auto Root is not used to root OG5. After flashing the kernel, flash the rooted ROM or root with SuperSU zip if just wanting to root stock and boot.

AFAIK you may be OK despite that. I keep seeing that on the web so I thought maybe that's why OE1 thru OG5 bootloaders are giving fits and bricks (semi-bricks).
It may only apply to full tars; did you OTA or KIES to OG5?
The saga continues... feedback like this helps. Thanks!

Since you have a OG5 tar, now you can wipe it and clean install Odin to fix that.
Maybe try that oem lock disabled this time? Odin 3.10.6
