Hi guys, I was wondering if I install any cm12 rom on my G3 (855) will i have the knock features still working ?
Thanks
likely not... not now anyway. CM12 isn't even official on G3 yet.

Okay thank you very much I'll stay on AndroidNow for now
Also to note is that most phones using knock code required xposed framework which is no longer supported in lollipop. They also didn't work while screen was off... So I'm guessing it may never happen to the extent you want it too.

What? Knock-on code works great on v20F/5.0/Lollipop without Xposed, or even without root. It's a feature that LG implented in their ROMs, it has nothing to do with root/xposed etc..
And it does work on a rooted device running a stock(-based) ROM with the screen turned off.
I meant phones running Knock Code that are not LG.... Sorry if that wasn't clear enough.
Knock code was a module within xposed framework to allow knock code on NON LG devices but only with screen on.

I apologize if this is in the wrong forum. Does anyone know if there is a stock custom ROM being developed for this device? One that may remove all the unnecessary bloatware?

There is.
Look in the "G Pad 8.3 Original Android Development " section.

He means LGs stock software for this device but debloated.
Not yet it seems. Everyone is interested in either AOSP ROMs or getting the GPE to work on the v500s.

Yes that is what I mean. I don't see any ROMs yet like that

Ah, like that.
I would be interested too yes.
(because there are a few functions that I would like to keep:
-knock on/knock off
-Qremote or any other remote app that will work with the IR blaster
-screen on/off with opening/closing magnetic case flap.)

I suppose I could just root the device and then use Titanium backup to uninstall the bloatware. However, stock custom ROMs usually have various tweaks to make the battery last longer and run smoother in general.
Is the CM11 ROM compatible with both the regular and Google play edition? I saw an article mention that it was, but I see nothing to confirm that anywhere (I know the model numbers are different). I don't see why it wouldn't because the hardware is the same, correct?
I don't know. Why does everyone want to run CM vs debloating their tablet? You lose access to the OEM features (for LG that's knock and qremote).

my understanding is that it is not yet been released for the 510gpe. I would not try to flash the 500 version.
I also understand that it is in the works and, if nothing else I'm setting up my machine right now to try to build cyanogenmod 11 from source for the gpe... We'll see.

You dont lose the knock feature, you just need to knock on the status bar to put the tablet to sleep. Knock on works everywhere on screen

I don't have the LG OEM features as I have the GPE. I much prefer having stock android, but I want the native USB OTG + charging support that CM11 has. That's kind of a big deal for me until Google decides to implement it themselves.
Does anyone know of any way to enable the knock on and knock code unlock while using custom roms or does it need to be built into the rom being used?

It must be built in to the Kernel and it must be a feature of the device you are using. Your question is very vague though.

My apologies if I were overly vague, the G3 has a feature called a knock code, allows you to unlock and turn on the phones screen without having to hit the power button. You answered my question well enough thoigh, I assumed the phones ability to detect touches while the screen was off would be a kernel level feature. The lock screen itself though I was not sure if it would be a separate apk utilizing that hardware feature.
Has the New camera API for Android 5.0 become available now that we are getting 5.0 roms?
Really looking forward to using the new features.
If not, what aspect of these new things are we waiting for to get support? Is it something in AOSP that we have to wait for, or something with the apps or roms themselves?

Do you mean for AOSP 5.0 or LG's own 5.0 rom?
I know that AOSP and all the roms using it's base, can't really handle the camera of the G3.
Could you specify?

I suppose the question applies to both, but in this case I'm just asking about CM12.

Well you're gonna get the new API, but it's going to be drastically limited since the LG camera needs an LG driver.
So you might have a feature more or two, but it's really no use when the camera is degraded to 2011 quality and video is only 15 fps.
There is a lot more to this than the API of the operating system. The driver is where the magic is at.

isn't there a way to port that driver to AOSP? i find it hard to believe we are going to get stuck with this quality

I actually put up a post some time ago asking the same question, but the answer remains the same, it's probably not going to happen any time soon. Not to mention other problems that relates to G3 + AOSP. Example could be the IR remote controller.
I know that some developers had luck with AOSP + LG G2 with the camera, where they ported it, but AFAIK it was more or less crashing all the time and missing features and functions, so at the end of the day it wasn't really worth the effort.
Now what I have done is simply use LG's Lollipop and then tweak it all the way to AOSP, retaining all the good stuff
LG's rom can actually be made very nice including in performance and that comes from a guy whose old phone was a Nexus 5 with Lollipop
The ports of LGs camera always worked great for me on AOSP. And given how ridiculously simple the camera app is for the G3 I'd expect it to be even easier to get working.
I'm OK with sticking on stock Lolipop Roms if that means having access to the 5.0 Camera API. I just have to wait to get there since I'm on VZW.
Are you able to use the API on your Lollipop stock rom?

The lollipop roms from LG do not feature a camera driver for the new camera2 api. That is a shame for two reasons. First of all the new api gives you a lot of new options (manual mode, raw export among others) which in turn enable developers to implement neat tricks like the super sensor from A Better Camera. Overall a huge opportunity! Secondly the LG Flex2 with the exact same camera module (AFAIK) has the new api.
So please everyone ask LG about that. They might eventually listen. Or maybe some rom developer could port the driver over from the Flex2.

That's really sad. If the gflex 2 Roms have it and it is indeed the same module, is there any way to get it from there and add it to our stock based Roms?

That's what I'm hoping for. . . Anyone?
is there any luck of us getting this functionality on our phone ? does it require a firmware update from lg for the camera ?
because cyanogemod/aosp has the api already included. so it makes me think its the firmware which is lacking

Indeed it is the firmware. However XCam LG by xdabbeb acheives much if what I'd hoped for from the camera API. Bitrate/compression control, RAW (DNG format) support, ISO control and some shutter speed settings.

I've read through the forums a bit and have not found an answer to my question so here goes.
I flashed CM12.1 on my D850 a few days ago and love it. Thing is all the different camera apps available that I have tried suck except for Oppo. Still it is no where near equivalent to the stock camera app. Would it be possible to make a driver for the stock camera app that would work with CM12.1 or even other stock roms? If so how would you go about doing that? What would be needed? I have used Xcam for the stock rom and really like that camera app. How hard would that be to port over to CM12.1? The Stock ROM that comes on the G3 is not all that bad but I personally love android when it is in its truest form, but I also like a good camera.
If nothing about can happen are there any custom Stock Roms? Rom's that would allow use of Xcam or stock camera but still allow the level of customization?

No, missing LG framework = no stock camera possible on AOSP roms.

Hey thanks for the respones and yes I know the question has been asked I guess I wasn't clear enough in what I was asking. I meant would it be possible to add what is needed to get the camera to work? Like pick apart the parts of the framework that is needed and integrate it into cm12.1. That would allow the addition of a few cool features of the lg stock rom

You do realise it makes no difference right
Having the LG Camera App doesnt mean that 4K recording is magically gonna be enabled

That really doesn't matter to me. I am more interested in the quality of pictures and also the burst capabilities of the LG app
