Yes with s-off you can easily convert it to Developer Edition - International or GPe

thanks. that was the only thing i had in mind that whether or not the international roms are compatible with it. coz verizon and AT&t m8 have separate development forums on xda

thats because the americans cant agree to use the same radio frequencies for their networks, so companies need to make different models for each carrier.
i bought myself an used phone on o2, s-off'd it, changed the cid to GOOGL01 and flashed the GPE conversion RUU. HTC__001 is the sim free cid if you want to flash a sense RUU to completely unbrand your device

You'll be good with international based ROMs. You wouldn't be good with others. The O2 M8 is International WWE. You may have to update your firmware though, to run the latest ROMs, otherwise your wifi will not work.

will work for 801s and 801n version??
thanks.
check this website:
it might help you: http://htconeroot.com/category/htc-one-custom-roms/
You'll probably have to change your CID since you're unlocked and S-OFF but it seems possible as long as it's another GSM ROM.
But you're better off asking in the general HTC One forum, not in the Verizon HTC One forum, as ours is a special variant.

OK thanks.
Adding to the mix a bit... once you unlock get S-off and ger supercid... the verizon branded phone could get a radio flashed of other carrier with the available frequency and a rom with its respective sim card to go to other carrier like say cricket? but it kind of seem to easy to me and im kind of confused in that matter.
I believe my question is very simple.
I'm about to buy an HTC One M8.
I've noticed that there a 4 flavors of the same phone. The two choices I have are the standard unlocked edition and the developers edition.
If I am correct, the developers edition comes without stock android and only with HTC Sense 6.0.
So, what should I get, normal 32gb edition or 32gb Developers edition. Knowing that I am new to HTC (I have always used Galaxy's) what is my best option?
Or should I get the galaxy S5  lol
The standard unlocked and dev edition are exactly the same phones except for unlocked bootloader on dev edition. I'm going for the dev because it's the same price. The big thing is making sure the carrier works with this particular model. The unlocked/dev phones are AT&T models which are missing AWS on 3G/HSPA. In North America, this means you won't be getting 3G/HSPA connections with T-Mobile or Wind Mobile.
This is the correct forums for the developer edition m8 from htc'a website right?
Just checking before I start flashing stuff

The Google play edition (GPE) comes with stock android. The developer edition comes with Sense I believe!

So basically, if I buy the developer edition, I would have it rooted already?
And what does it mean that it doesn't have Android? Does it mean I would have to put a custom ROM to make the phone work? Sorry, I'm just new to the HTC freedom
I know that HTC Sense is like the Touchwiz for a Samsung, so not having stock android what do I have ?
No I think the developer edition is exactly the same as the AT&T version, except the bootloader can be unlocked via htcdev, but the standard AT&T one can't?
It does have android, just the HTC Sense version of Android. Sense is HTC's touchwiz!
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Developer Edition = Unlocked bootloader, carrier unlocked and full warranty
Unlocked Edition = Locked bootloader (unlockable via HTC Dev), carrier unlocked, and full warranty (unless you unlock the bootloader)
Google Play edition = Stock Android (No sense)
AT&T Edition = Locked bootloader (unlockable via HTC Dev), carrier locked to ATT, full of AT&T bloat and Carrier IQ
Go with Dev Edition since same price as Unlocked and is now in stock. Get it soon since at midnight it goes from $649 to $699

I just bought it but I went with the Unlocked version
Now i just need to play with it (root, cwm etc). It seems that it's a little bit harder than the Samsung but I am sure I did the best purchased phone-wise and I will learn how to do it.
You'll see me more on this side of XDA now :good:
Thanks guys, I think this thread is done unless someone else need it of course.
Hi! I´ve just got my M8 replaced by HTC, so now I´ve got it completely stock (it´s carrier unlocked). I would like to know the specific steps to follow to turn it to Developer Edition or International Sense Stock, so I can receive updates directly from HTC (tired of waiting for T-Mobile). Once I get 100% stock Sense I'm planing to turn it to install Harman/Kardon Mod. If you can give me direct links I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
Forgot to ask in each case (Dev & International) what CID and MID would be

Hello.
I read a guide on how to convert anything to a Developer Edition device running Lollipop. I noticed something interesting: y'know that the WWE M8s are all SKU 401? Then why is the Developer Edition 1540? The CID is different too: WWE ones all start with HTC__ (e.g HTC__032) wile the Developer Edition is BS_US002? So what is going on here and why is the Developer Edition M8 different from the WWE one?

They're sold as different phones and need to be identified as such. Different updates come downstream for them. Basically the same reason my Rogers HTC One has yet another CID/MID, as do the T-Mobile, Orange, Telus, O2, etc.

OK, I get why there carriers have different versions. But isn't the Developer Edition pretty much the same as a WWE Unlocked one, just with an unlocked bootloader? And if the bootloader isn't unlocked, why does it even exist?

There are different ROMs. Yeah, they're probably almost identical, but not quite. I doubt I can get more specific than that... maybe they have different APNs installed? Possibly different levels of bloatware? It might just be that the dev edition gets updates first, so customers can pay extra to have a phone that updates a week or two before their WWE/Carrier counterparts.
I'm pretty sure the bootloader comes locked on the dev edition, just like all the other phones, and you have to unlock it at htcdev.com. I might be wrong though.
Are you facing some sort of technical issue, or just curious?

I'm just curious. I have heard that Developer Edition devices with CID BS_US002 ship with an unlocked bootloader. So, there is almost no difference, just HTC trying to sell it?
x.xx.401.x is the European ROM build, not World Wide English (WWE) as it used to be (which also used to be x.xx.405.x when it was WWE but that's going back a few years)
The US Developer Edition is their version of the EU SIM-free handset but has a different software build, CID and MID and has different radio frequencies so not all 4G bands are covered for EU use. It also only covers a few languages as opposed to the EU languages covered in the EU SIM-free version

Ok.. So .401 is the EU unlocked version, . 1540 is US unlocked with CID BS_US002 also having the bootloader unlocked (BS_US001 only has SIM unlock). Am I correct?

Yes, the US DE comes with the bootloader pre-unlocked. The EU model is supplied locked but can be unlocked via HTC Dev

Question is it wise to go to WWE model or just go to US unlocked model?
In my past experience with HTC sometimes the WWE variant gets updates first sometimes the US Does

Unlocked US is fully compatible with T-Mobile US, not sure if the WWE is.

So I change the CID to BS_US001 correct? Do i need to change the other number too? forgot what it was called.
No. The mid is the same
If you convert to wwe that's what it is... You also lose some bands and tweaks meant for us networks

i plan on just changing it to unbranded US unlocked version and not the WWE that's why I was asking if any differences between each one. Just to confirm BS_US001 is for the US unlocked version correct? and I don't have to change the MID?
