hi people please help me with a guide for my phone? i have read how to do it but i cant seam to find instructions for my device? and my version of android? and dont want to brick it?
i have a sony xperia m single sim model c1905 and its running android 4.3
i have successfully rooted and im looking for the next stages to get a custom rom that has the ability to install apps on my sd card? any recommendations and tutorials would be much appreciated cheers
you don't have to flash custom rom to install apps on sdcard, you just need to swap the memory, make ext4 partition on your sdcard and then use link2sd to link your apps to sdcard ext4 partition

if you're on the way, then go on and finish it, a device with unlocked bootloader is strongly recommended

sorted it mate i had to disable driver signature so that the drivers would install
64-Bit editions of Windows require digitally signed drivers. The problem is that many devices ship with unsigned drivers.
anyway i have managed to install [KTU84P][4.4.4][NIGHTLY/FXP341] Official CyanogenMod which is good but i but fancy a change already lol any you recomend?

Is it actually booting our are you just seeing the charging animation?
Is your bootloader unlocked?
Did you flash the latest kernel?
Have you tried using logcat to see what the problem is?

forgive as i'm new at this.
do i need to find a kernel for the fxp 7.2? or it has already in the cm7.2 itself?
i'm pretty sure i unlocked my bootloader as after i followed a guide. my phones data been wipe after unlocking the bootloader.
the thing is my phone can boot up to the homescreen after a few second it freezes then reboot and the cycle continues for a few minute then it jus stop in the fxp logo screen
as for logcat i have no idea what is that. Sry for my ignorance in this field and thank you for your reply.

The kernel is included in the zip file you downloaded, but it needs to be flashed separately via either fastboot or flashtool
Follow this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249798 to set up adb/fastboot (just copied first link off Google)
My signature has a link on how to use logcat.

basically, the boot image is the kernel itself that you need to flash on the computer using a command before going into cwm to install the cm7.2?
if so, i have done that.
if i use the cdma version of the xplay cause the boot loop? as mine is gsm?
EDIT : the post you gave me. i've read it but it is still so complicated. do i need to revert back to stock rom and try again to install cynogenmod? If so any suggestions?
EDIT: i think i screw up the part where i need to copy and paste all the stuff into the platform tools. izzit important in doing so? The android sdk thing.
EDIT: anything else in your opinion would cause this boot loop? likerenaming the rom and gapps?
EDIT: Been poking around the internet and found this, is it possible that my battery calibration is off and causes the boot loop?

As for ur problem, just flash a stock .ftf via flashtool n let ur phone boot up like always. After ur phone boot up, just search for guide in doing all that BEFORE u try again. Make sense right... Hope u'll get it right next time. Gud luck.

1) CDMA version will not cause bootloops, if i remember correctly, instead it'll justmake you loose baseband (the ability to use your phone as a phone)
2) Nope, instead (wasn't thinking, last night) click on my sig, the link that says "Link to my mediafire folder (R800x goodies) & click on SDK Tools & download the windows version (assuming you have windows.) Extract them to C:\android.
3) See above, it's the shortcut
4) Renaming the rom & gapps zip doesn't actually influence anything, i've renamed stuff all the time to make it easier. Did you wipe data & cache before installing the rom?
5) Nope, never heard of battery calibration being off & causing a bootloop.

My guess is, the kernel n wrong cm7.2.zip Mybe u should search the stickies section for flashing guide, unlocking bootloader, etc. Assuming this is ur 1st time flashing. Mybe u should try pax's rom n see if it boot correctly. But u not cdma right?? So my above suggestion is the way out. Go for it!!!
Thank you guys for your help. as for flashtool, i remember theres u need a tft file. so i remember there is a UK generic 4.somthing which i remember was my stock rom build number i think. i'm using r800i in malaysia does it work? and after that, do i need to download another 2.3.4 tft for that matter?

Theres a .ftf collection on the dev section. Just pick any 1, download n flash via flashtool. That should get u to the begining again. After that do exercise caution in doing anything to ur phone. As we wont be held responsible if anything happens to ur phone. Hope thats clear enough for u. If u hav any other question please do a search for the answer 1st, as this problem may hav been ask before. Well, gud luck then.
no, i mean. do i need to download both 2.3.4 tft and 4.0.2.A.0.42 tft and flash both. And it say that it is UK generic, just to check whether i can use it as i'm from Malaysia.

It dont matter!! Lol. There're both the same 2.3.4 android version. Just pick 1, download n flash via flashtool. Just so u know i'm using .58 enhance.ftf as it got 420mb internal mmry space. So u see as long as ur phone boot up perfectly, nothing else matter(Linkin Park)

I'm sure its still valid as its a guide. Unless the title stated otherwise. Just update driver n makesure the data n cache check box is "tick". Then just flash away. I think its already explained in the guide. Just follow the guide. Gud luck n dont forget to thank "the guide" if it worked out for ya.
sry if i'm being annoying but err, after i download the flashtool. i went into the flashtool drivers and i install the fastboot , flashboot and sony xperia play drivers. izzit the correct way to install it as it is not stated in the guide in doing so?
EDIT: Theres is an application in the flashtool drivers folder saying drivers so i double click it it send me to an installation program so i tick the fastboot , flashboot and sony xperia play drivers and install them. izzit correct?

Hello..
I have SE Xperia Arc with ICS 4.0.4 \ Build. No : 4.1.B.0.431 -- [by official PC Companion updating program] , original ROM , and with LOCKED BL.
Firstly, I would like to know if there is anyway to keep/restore my programs AFTER unlocking my BL ? Please explain (as I don't even know how to flash using fastboot xD) .
And, does using custom roms need "rooting"? If not, does it erase any data?
Finally, what in the world is a "kernel"!? And,why do we need it !?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
First of all you could of searched all this on XDA just takes a bit of initiative...

All custom roms require rooting and most of them require an unlocked bootloader (its just better to have an unlocked bootloader doesnt really matter)

Kernels can be used for overclocking, and kernels are sometimes needed for specific roms to make them work. The kernel is basically the communications bridge in your arc

Thank you very much sir. That was really helpful :good:
Cheers!
If you are satisfied with the official rom, don't change anything.
I try two rom, JJhybrid, and Pureness. All of them can be installed on locked bootloader and of course root. The main advantage is that they offer a little more ram and less home redraw, Arc S have only 384 ram usable (specs say 512, but at least on my phone, a meminfo say 384Mo and with stock ICS this let you with 20MB free or even less in services panel info wich leads to lags, home redraw and make you swear you never buy a Sony phone again.
I don't want to unlock bootloader, this void warranty and drm gones (so you can't use track id and download music info from some rom walkman app)
Install a new rom is not too difficult :
- First : root your phone, there is good guides on XDA
- Second : buy Titanium Backup and backup everything. Backup also callogs, sms/msm, wifi access point and favorite with the menu in xml format.
- Third : install xpart and do a nandroid backup (yeah, i'm a bit paranoïd)
- Fourth : install flashtool and download a ftf rom file in case of rom install goes bad. Install the drivers in the driver folder of flashtool.
- Fith : choose you rom, and follow instruction. It's always something like download a zip, put it on sd card, goto recovery, wipe everything and install zip from the card.
After reboot, restore eveything with Titanium Backup, but skip restore contacts, use google sync instead. Go to contact, and input your name and phone in the "me" contact. Sometime, Titanium locks when restoring multimedia data (it's your playlist and i guess different music app use different playlist format), so skip it.
I case you can't boot, use flashtool to revive your phone. It's happens if you don't wipe, use kernel or baseband incompatible with the rom.
I'm currently on pureness build 10, stock 4.04 kernel with root and 72 baseband. There is no timescape and no FBI stuff (FaceBook Integration but you gain the nice walkman app, and if you install drm missing stuff (like creditential manager) you can use trackid and download music info so you can use sense. Pureness is a pre v6 supercharged with services.jar patched.
JJ hybrid is close to stock ICS, included lacks of memory but with nice contact and phone apps.
Despite what rom builder says, neither on this rom you can play games like asphalt 6 (maybe because i'm on a stock kernel ? )

Ohh.. Thanks alot bro for these valuable info. I really appreciate it.
So.. after long thinking, I decided to root my device with my bootloader closed, then I'll back my apps/games up, and later I'll consider thinking of un-locking my bootloader.
So what's the easiest way to root my ICS ARC [firmware 4.1.B.0.431] ?? [I ask this because I've found lots of topics/ways about/of rooting, but many are complicated and others need un-locked BL] ?!
As I mentioned in the 1st comment, I officially updated my phone to ICS via PC companion, and my ROM is still the original.
Thanks in advance.
For rooting, i follow this tuto: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683957 it's well made and easy to follow.
Since i am on 4.0.4 when i rooting, i just flash the 4.0.3 kernel, root it and flash the 4.0.4.

Aah.. I saw that tuto before but, since I'm NEW to this world, I couldn't figure out how to flash the kernels ? And whats the consequences of doing that?
Many thanks for your replies sir.
To flash, all you need is flashtool : http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
- install it
- Install the driver located in the drivers directory of flashtool (Flashtool-drivers.exe)
- put the '.ftf' in the firmwares directory of flashtool
- put the phone in msc mode
- click the flash button, use the flashmode method, choose the file, take a look at the options box on the right, sometime you only need to flash kernel, not the full firmware.
- click go. Follow the on-screen instruction.
There's always a risk, in case of bad download, incorrect kernel, it's like flashing a bios for a PC.
flashtool revive my phone when i screw up while installting pureness without wiping /system and/or using the 72 baseband. Phone was stuck at android logo. So i flash the 4.0.4 pre-rooted, root the phone, and flash only the kernel part of a full 4.0.4 firmware.
Hello,
My name is Tim and I'm new on this forum. I've read a lot of topics during the past year but I've never joined XDA, till now.
I do have a question about my sony xperia s. I did want a custom rom for it. After reading many of the topics about how to install it I finally had the courage to do it. Because of several things I couldn't find time and now, before going to bed I thougt I'de give it a try.
It went wrong and now my phone stopped working, kind of. I forgot to copy the file of the custom rom to Sdcard of my phone, so i cant reach it now. The flashtool did it's job and removed the stock rom. Now i'm in the middle of two roms but cant go further.
Rom manager is installed but I don't know what to do know. Please don't tell me what I shouldn't have done but tell me what to do.

I also checked the recovery if it is working properly and it is working properly and it is rooted properly .
