Is it actually booting our are you just seeing the charging animation?
Is your bootloader unlocked?
Did you flash the latest kernel?
Have you tried using logcat to see what the problem is?

forgive as i'm new at this.
do i need to find a kernel for the fxp 7.2? or it has already in the cm7.2 itself?
i'm pretty sure i unlocked my bootloader as after i followed a guide. my phones data been wipe after unlocking the bootloader.
the thing is my phone can boot up to the homescreen after a few second it freezes then reboot and the cycle continues for a few minute then it jus stop in the fxp logo screen
as for logcat i have no idea what is that. Sry for my ignorance in this field and thank you for your reply.

The kernel is included in the zip file you downloaded, but it needs to be flashed separately via either fastboot or flashtool
Follow this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249798 to set up adb/fastboot (just copied first link off Google)

basically, the boot image is the kernel itself that you need to flash on the computer using a command before going into cwm to install the cm7.2?
if so, i have done that.
if i use the cdma version of the xplay cause the boot loop? as mine is gsm?
EDIT : the post you gave me. i've read it but it is still so complicated. do i need to revert back to stock rom and try again to install cynogenmod? If so any suggestions?
EDIT: i think i screw up the part where i need to copy and paste all the stuff into the platform tools. izzit important in doing so? The android sdk thing.
EDIT: anything else in your opinion would cause this boot loop? likerenaming the rom and gapps?
EDIT: Been poking around the internet and found this, is it possible that my battery calibration is off and causes the boot loop?

As for ur problem, just flash a stock .ftf via flashtool n let ur phone boot up like always. After ur phone boot up, just search for guide in doing all that BEFORE u try again. Make sense right... Hope u'll get it right next time. Gud luck.

1) CDMA version will not cause bootloops, if i remember correctly, instead it'll justmake you loose baseband (the ability to use your phone as a phone)
2) Nope, instead (wasn't thinking, last night) click on my sig, the link that says "Link to my mediafire folder (R800x goodies) & click on SDK Tools & download the windows version (assuming you have windows.) Extract them to C:\android.
3) See above, it's the shortcut
4) Renaming the rom & gapps zip doesn't actually influence anything, i've renamed stuff all the time to make it easier. Did you wipe data & cache before installing the rom?
5) Nope, never heard of battery calibration being off & causing a bootloop.

My guess is, the kernel n wrong cm7.2.zip Mybe u should search the stickies section for flashing guide, unlocking bootloader, etc. Assuming this is ur 1st time flashing. Mybe u should try pax's rom n see if it boot correctly. But u not cdma right?? So my above suggestion is the way out. Go for it!!!
Thank you guys for your help. as for flashtool, i remember theres u need a tft file. so i remember there is a UK generic 4.somthing which i remember was my stock rom build number i think. i'm using r800i in malaysia does it work? and after that, do i need to download another 2.3.4 tft for that matter?

Theres a .ftf collection on the dev section. Just pick any 1, download n flash via flashtool. That should get u to the begining again. After that do exercise caution in doing anything to ur phone. As we wont be held responsible if anything happens to ur phone. Hope thats clear enough for u. If u hav any other question please do a search for the answer 1st, as this problem may hav been ask before. Well, gud luck then.
no, i mean. do i need to download both 2.3.4 tft and 4.0.2.A.0.42 tft and flash both. And it say that it is UK generic, just to check whether i can use it as i'm from Malaysia.

It dont matter!! Lol. There're both the same 2.3.4 android version. Just pick 1, download n flash via flashtool. Just so u know i'm using .58 enhance.ftf as it got 420mb internal mmry space. So u see as long as ur phone boot up perfectly, nothing else matter(Linkin Park)

I'm sure its still valid as its a guide. Unless the title stated otherwise. Just update driver n makesure the data n cache check box is "tick". Then just flash away. I think its already explained in the guide. Just follow the guide. Gud luck n dont forget to thank "the guide" if it worked out for ya.
sry if i'm being annoying but err, after i download the flashtool. i went into the flashtool drivers and i install the fastboot , flashboot and sony xperia play drivers. izzit the correct way to install it as it is not stated in the guide in doing so?
EDIT: Theres is an application in the flashtool drivers folder saying drivers so i double click it it send me to an installation program so i tick the fastboot , flashboot and sony xperia play drivers and install them. izzit correct?

Basically the title says it all. I'm a noob at these things and don't wanna risk bricking my phone. I want to try flashing a custom kernel that will allow me to overclock my Play but I don't know how to..
My Xperia Play is rooted and has unlocked boot loader already and below are the things shown under 'About Phone'
- R800i
- Android 2.3.4
- 4.0.2.A.0.69
The most popular kernel for xperia play is doomkernel, i have also tried it it's very good. There is an description in the doomkernel thread how to install it.

It's pretty safe if done right, I was in the exact same position you were up until a few days ago, I spent a good few hours reading and I was running DoomKernel with Gin2ICS, clocked at 1.8. Now I'm just wanting to put that superchargev6 script on
Many people chose to do it the hard way. But teh best way it to use Flashtool
link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351299
It's pretty much staright forward. Download your desired kernal and ofcourse after installing the programm head over to it's directory files and inside the drivers folder. Run the application "Flashtool-drivers.exe" and go on and install everything. (can take a long time). Then after run the programm without your phone hooked up with USB debugging on click on the flash icon (the first option from left) chose fastboot mode. Click on Reboot into fastboot mode via ADB. Then press "Select Kernal to Flash" and chose the desired kernal you have downloaded and after a couple of seconds you are good to go. Good luck!
Doom Kernal is the one of the best one out that and the chances of you bricking it is really very low
Will the "DoomKernel" kernel work on a .69 build? I checked out the thread and it only says for .42/.58/.62 FW.
Also, can I flash this without a custom ROM as well? I'm not really big into custom ROMS but I do need an extra dose of speed, hence the need for overclocking.
It will work on .69 and the kernel works with all stock roms.

If it's not too much trouble can you explain more clearly? I have already downloaded the doomkernel files(PLAY-GSM-DooMKernel-v14_boot.img) and the wi-fi modules from the other thread and I'm not quite sure what to do with it. Do I put the .img file into the Flashtool folder?

Sorry i have tiped the wrong key
So activate debug modus under development section in apps section, then turn your phone off.
Then hold the search button of your phone and connect it to your pc. A blue light will light up, when that happens you can stop pressing the search button. Then tipe on the lightning symbol in fastboot and select fastboot. Then there will pop up a window, there you have to select flash kernel now you have to select the kernel file and press ok. It will begin flashing. When the progress ends you can turn on your phone. And don't forget to flash the wifi fix in recovery. I hope you are able to follow

Hey guys
I'm having an issue with flashing a kernal to my phone. I have a SE Xperia Play R800i GSM with stock GB 2.3. The phone is rooted and has CWM, but the bootloader is not unlocked. I have downloaded the flashtool and tried flashing my device to load the LuPuS kernel for the ICS4.0.4 ROM, but just cant seem to get any joy. The software recognises the device is rooted, but fails with each attempt to load the custom kernel saying it is because the device is not rooted.
Oh, in MSC with debugging available. I have attached a log from the flashtool software. Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong?
Thanks!

Hi I'm new here, just made an account 5 minutes ago.
I need help with getting CM7, CM9 or any other Custom Rom on my Xperia Play R800X VERIZON. I am Rooted, and have an Unlocked Bootloader. I was able to flash a UK version of the Xperia Play android version 2.3.3 Rom to make sure my bootloader was unlocked. The UK version was nice but it wasn't for me.
Just trying to get CM9 on my phone! but for some reason I'm having a really hard time doing so.
If anyone can help me or give me advice it would be much appreciated, I'm just trying to make use of my unlocked Bootloader! D:

Is there a "best" if you will, ROM or Kernel for the Xperia Play? I'm just trying to get the most out of my device. Also how do I get the gapps you mentioned?
I've done this a few times already but the main problem for me is: I get the kernel working, get into recovery, but when I got to apply/ flash the ROM I always seem to get and error message of some sort. Its very aggravating. I've been checking all over the internet for a solution but nothing so far, I've been awake for almost 48 hours now looking for a solution -.-
Thanks

But for some reason NONE of this is working for me :/
I can flash a stock ftf file via flashtool no problem. I can enter recovery via X-parts app no problem. But when it comes to flashing the kernel via flashtool & unzipping the rom file via recovery they always report back an error message which leaves my phone completely useless or stuck on a boot loop which I then have to re flash stock rom to have a working phone again.
Hopefully that made sense lol, I have TeamViewer if anyone can help me thru that possibly idk I'm out of ideas...

Did you get the files downloaded? If so place them in a folder on your PC together.
Power your phone off. Then power on while holding the search button. You should see the blue LED on top of your phone which means you are in Fastboot mode.
Try that much and report back, then we can work on actually flashing the kernel.

Unlocked bootloader, right?
Well... I started flashing with the FXP CM based roms. I suppose that this is exactly what you did, but since you didn't tell the steps you followed, I'm gonna write down how I did the first time:
With an FXP CM based rom (eg: FXP CM 10) , the steps, basically are:
- Extract the boot.img (own kernel of the FXP roms) of the .zip and put the .zip in the sdcard
- Flash the kernel in fastboot mode:
( fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img
fastboot -i 0xfce flash reboot
unplug the usb and start hiting volume controls to enter in CWM)
- Wipe data and cache
- Install the .zip (rom)
- Reboot and enjoy
Hope it works for you.

And suppose if i want to install ROM( jelly sandwich) can u tell me the procedure from the scratch, I ll really appreciate it.. coz I am trying for 2 days with negative result...

I'm noob too, so unfortunately I can't help in the most effective way.
The only apparent difference between our phones (from what I understood from your post) is that I unlocked the bootloader. I read here in XDA that some roms just need this while others not.
"can u tell me the procedure from the scratch, I ll really appreciate it" - You mean unlock the BL?
It's easy, but may void the warranty... Go here: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
(Note: In my case I didn't install the sdk, but I just can't find the tutorial that I followed to unlock the BL... Anyway, the tutorial that I've used was in portuguese... Not much help for you I guess
Note2: In the middle of the process, you'll have to inform your IMEI in the sony website... Use just the first 14 digits).
There is enough information in the guides and stickys to help with most things, People just need to read it.

When I want to know sth, I search and then I will have more than I wanted.
1. unlock the boot loader
2. Download a custom kernel for your current version of android ie: GB/ICS i suggest DoomLord.
3.Put the kernel ( .img ) into the same folder as you have fastboot/adb
4. Power the phone into fastboot: Power down your phone. Press and hold the menu button then plug in your usb cable (the light on the side will be blue)
open a CMD window in the same folder as fastboot/adb and type the commant:
fastboot flash boot NAME OF FILE.img
push enter.
Once the install is complete (a couple of second) you will have root and custom recovery.
Make sure your phone version is rootable
There are guides available in the General section, I suggest you read them if this is your first root.
Good Luck.
Thanks guys I appreciate your help.. I ll try
Oh man not again... I've lost my previous phone (TG-01) in the same way. My phone was working just fine until I decided to flash the turbo kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1817548). By following the directions in the link (http://www.xperiagamer.com/Beginners-Guides/how-to-use-fastboot.html), I've done all of the steps mentioned but then the problems started. When I first opened the device after flashing the kernel, all I saw was just a black screen. Approximately two minutes later the battery indicator and clock showed up on the top right of the screen. With some search in Google, I've found the post below:

So I've tried to follow these steps too but looks like I'm failed. Now I can't flash another kernel because the PC doesn't detect my phone after the "waiting for device" prompt in the fastboot. Before trying something again I thought asking for help in the forums is a good idea. So please, please help me. I'm very upset now and I won't get any better without fixing this problem. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Did you flash the recovery on xperia gamer site?If you did this it is only a recovery not a kernal. You should have flashed a kernal with recovery built in like the turbo kernal which as recovery built in.According to xperiargamer gamer link you need to to connect through flashtool to get into the recovery.I would look in flashtool to try to boot into recovery or flash another kernal with recovery built in then flash a new rom.But obviously flashtool needs to recognise your phone :fingers-crossed:
That's the problem. Before I messed with the settings it had no problems with detecting my device. I guess I screwed up something.
Also just noticed I CAN get incoming calls but I can't answer them. So the phone is actually working, then? What should I do now?
What rom are you on?Can you get in fastboot mode with phone?(holding search while connecting to pc.) is the phone partially working?

When I first flashed the kernel I was on stock 2.3.4, but immediately after the flashing I switched to X Dark ICS. Yes, I can use the fastboot mode, but fastboot does not recognize it while SEUS does. Weird...,
I can enter the boot menu with no problems at all.
Xdark ICS is not compatible with turbo kernel.Only certain roms work they are listed on CosmicDan site. Also when you say you can get into boot menu do you mean via the phone?

Yes, I can enter and browse the boot menu by opening the phone while tapping back and volume up keys. Now trying on a different computer, will post the results.
No use. Damn.
PLEASE HELP ME BEFORE I GO NUTS.
Confused by what you mean boot menu! Do you mean recovery? Also if this is turbo recovery just install a compatible rom via install zip option, there are links to them on CosmicDans site.Download one place on sdcard and flash with turbo recovery :fingers-crossed:
Re: Need urgent help! Device stucked on black screen...
Boot menu?? Recovery?? Cant u just flash a stock firmware via flashtool using flashmode?? If the boot menu you were talking about is recovery u should be able to enter fastboot/flashmode. Regarding the un-recognize problem did u try updating the driver?? Does flashtool even detect your phone??
Sorry for the lot of Q. Just want to get a clear view of your situation.

No need to apologize, you are right, I should have mentioned these.
Flashtool? I don't think it's Flashtool. It's something in the fastboot folder with the command prompt thing. Shift+Right Click if I remember it correctly.
Trying the Flashtool now, I'll keep you updated. Thanks for the reply.

Guess what?.I've flashed version 4.0.2.A.0.42 (UK Generic) with Flashtool. And now my phone is back again! HAHAHAHAHA I'M FRICKING HAPPY!!! THANK YOU GUYS. Ehm... Really, I thank you both. You two have a good day.
By the way, what should I do now? I was thinking about installing some Custom ROMs but I'm too scared to do it after these. Now the phone's running on 2.3.3. Is my rooted/bootloader unlocked status gone?
Congrats. Flashtool is a perfect fail sav. As for root, just use flashtool to root it. BL stays unlock once u've unlocked it. It locks when u decide to lock it. Everythings there man.

Did you actually install a Rom
@OP or did you just flash the turbo kernel? @everyone else If you flash a new kernel would that necessarily delete your ROM or would you still be able to boot to a stock rom?
I am kinda new to rooting and flashing so i am in need of some assistance.
My goal is to flash a new firmware on my xperia s and have it rooted.
I am not quite sure which steps i need to take in which order to do that. I would be very greatfull if someone could tell me the steps i have to take.
I will look for the guides here but i need to know what when to do.
I can unlock my bootloader, and i'm running a .55 version.

First of all don't panic!
Grab any .55 firmware and install it with FlashTool, when installation is finished don't turn on the phone, disconnect it and hold Volume UP button so it boots in Fastboot mode, then in FlashTool click FLASH then select fastboot and press Flash Kernel > flash this one (Download) When it's over just turn on your device as normal and you will have .55 with Root & Recovery. Good Luck
BEFORE INSTALLING KERNEL UNRAR THE PACKAGE YOU NEED ONLY .elf File.
Just Select elite.elf when choosing kernel to flash.
Attached KERNEL is by RaymanFX.
Thank your for the quick answer.
Do i first need to unlock my bootloarder?
Which firmwares can i install with that kernel?

Hello @schpongo,
I'd Certainly Help You Out.
First of AlL, What You Need Is
1. Unlocked Bootloader - http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
2. Rooted Device - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2133063
3. Installing CWM Recovery. I prefer RecoverX - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773227
And As My Friend In Above Post Said. Do Not Panic. It Takes Patience. And lots of waiting time.
Till one process is complete do not try to unplug or close anything. Its easy when you do things very calmly.
Ok Now for Available ROMS - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1950706
If you require suggestions regarding flashing roms I'd advice you to start with TEAM FXP ROMS - Cyanogen Mod 10

I Solved the Problem partly by using the flash tool to get back the stock os.
You can use the Flash tool to flash the boot.img file in the phone. It's really simple then manually doing it. I am on phone so can not provide you the link. Please use the search button on how to flash boot. Img using flash tool. Looping in boot is because the boot.img was not flashed properly. Use the flash tool to do it. I too had the same problem when I first flashed but soon found out the problem. Reply back if everything works..

CM 10 is a really good Rom with Stable recovery.
You can even download other ROMS of Build NOZOMI - (Code Name For Xperia S) eg Slim Bean build 5 Nozomi JB 4.2.2
And directly flash it from CWM recovery.

Yes, Unfortunately For This Purpose There is A Need for a little knowledge of Titanium Back Up.
It Will Bring All Your Settings Messages And Apps Back Without Any Modifications. Or loosing it.
The Reason : Every Time You Flash A New Rom
You Always ,
1 Whip Cache Partition
2 Cache /data /sysytem
3 Dalvik Cache
This Removes All The Apps.
