Hey guys, I want Android 4.4.4 on my Xperia S (am running 4.1.2 standard now). But to install another ROM, you need another kernel. Does anyone have the link to the kernel to use for me? I can't find it...
(And is there anything particulair ROM anyone can recommend?)
EDIT: Alright, does anyone have a tutorial with Flashtool too, because I can't figure it out, and its driving me nuts.

The kernel for any ROM is in the zip of ROM itself. The boot.img file is the Kernel. If You flash the any ROM via recovery, it will automatically flash the kernel too, as long as the boot.img file is present in the ROM.zip.

I followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963961 this tutorial, however, when I click fastboot via ADB, my phone reboots and then the blue flashlight goes on. But then my phone continues to boot, so if I click fastboot via fastboot it doesn't work.
I'm getting: ERROR - This action can only be done in fastboot mode and ERROR - Drivers need to be installed for connected device... Any help you can give?

You have not installed the fastboot drivers then. The drivers can be found at inside 'drivers' folder where You installed the flashtool. Install fastboot and flashmode and Sony Xperia S related drivers from the list.

Sorry to bother you, but when I check fastboot and fastmode, I get: http://puu.sh/dVUDt/347d16f514.png (Running Windows 10 x64?)
EDIT: Booted with safe mode, to disable something with driver signature, installed the drivers and flashed the kernel. Took me total of 8 hours, but got it all working, thanks a lot for your help!
Does Lollipop 5.0(.2/3?) work properly on Xperia S, and how about the issues with memory, and applications closing itself?

Before my fastboot used to work properly but now when I tried to flash kernel it's not working anymore. Whenever I open the fastboot.exe it's just instantly open and close. I reinstalled the android sdk, google drivers etc and still I get the same result(open and close instantly). Anyone knows how to put it up working again?

You must not open it.
Its meant to be used with cmd.
Or try the easy way out..download the flashtool..and start flashing firmwares and kernels etc..the links are in general section

use fastboot to hotboot a kernel, use flashtool or recovery on your phone to flash firmware.

So i'v been trying to get cm10 on my xperia s.
I have unlocked my bootloader, and followed this guide
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O52IeX93Jek
Steps i took:
1.Factory reset
2.I placed the ziped "FXP221-cm-10-20130524-UNOFFICIAL-nozomi" and "gapps-jb-20121011-signed" files on the sd card
3. flashed boot.img using fast boot
4. Installed the rom and then the gaps
5. reboot
But when i reboot i'm stuck in the boot loop.
I've now tried this 3 times but always get the boot loop. What can i do to avoid that?
Just format system & then flash rom.Everything will be fine

i tried it several times, and searched for reasons and another guids and tipps, but nothing worked, and since my x10 mini got a sim-lock wich i can't fix, im a little afraid about exotic tipps.
i got an open Bootloader and everything should be ready to do this....

I don't know what's the problem here. The last thing that would cause this would be the fact that I changed the .zip's name (I did that).

BTW this is still a problem for me. Nothing seems to work. I flashed everything and wiped everything before flashing but still no satisfying outcome.
Hi, question: I failed time and again to get CWM working, but finally got it to work using x-parts. However, x-parts is keen to point out that it is not a fully fledged recovery and that "if you wipe the system partition for any reason, it will be gone!".
Does this not mean that if I boot into recovery and install a new ROM (Going for the FXP CM10 one, if it matters), then when I wipe the phone beforehand I'll also wipe my CWM install, thus completely bricking the device? Would appreciate any thoughts, thanks

Yes, if you wipe the system partition there will be no more CWM. For CM10, you need to flash a custom kernel for it to work. This custom kernel will usually come with a CWM recovery so it will not be wiped when you flash a new ROM.

Is your bootloader unlocked?
And yes you will have to flash GB ftf using flashtool
Sent from my LT18i
Yeah, I unlocked the bootloader and rooted it ages ago, but have since neglected actually updating the ROM, decided I can't live in a GB world anymore though.
So, as I understand it, process would be flash a new GB kernel to get CWM > Wipe Everything > Install the relevant ROM and GApps > Done? Does this ROM installation include the update to JB kernel then? Thanks

If I am not mistaken the kernel boot img should be inside the ROM zip. Check the ROM zip. Just flash the boot img using fastboot, boot into CWM recovery and flash ROM & gapps.

Ah, ok, well this brings me full circle. Because I'm trying to follow the boot instructions to do so, but:
fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img
doesn't work. I've taken the boot.img out of the ROM, and put it in the platform-tools folder. But whenever I try this line, it says it can't boot it, and quotes "no error" (no longer at home so can't quote the exact error, but it's something like that). I assumed the problem was me lacking CWM, hence was trying to install that first. Fastboot devices DOES show the device, and both fastboot and adb commands work in a terminal, but I just can't get it to boot into the ROM recovery for Cyanogenmod. Driving my crazy! Thanks

I've got the right boot.img in my platform-fools folder, the relevant CM build on my SD Root along with GApps. Drivers are definitely installed correctly as fastboot devices shows the device, as do adb command when it's on - anyone got any suggestions? Would be immensely grateful if this confounded problem could be solved. Thanks

Flashing TWRP would require unlocked bootloader. First unlock Your bootloader, then follow the procedure from here.
From Your other post, it turns out You cannot unlock bootloader, so You can flash only sock based ROM's which work on Stock kernel.
Why is there no version 2.8.6.0 for Xperia S?

If i choose device name as "nozomi" i can find everything but my original device name is LT26i.
What to do? Are you suggest to try with nozomi and install the recovery?

Method 1. You need recovery for method 2. If You have unlocked bootloader, You can simply flash the DoomKernel too. You can find it here. Use the blue "Download Now" button, and the file has .elf extension. You can flash it via flashtool, it consists of CWM and TWRP and works with stock ROM.

Hi
Trying to root my S and install nAOSProm I followed the instructions in the main thread. I successfully unlocked the bootloader and got the device rooted (SuperSU installed and updated in play store), but when attempting to use the TWRP manager to install TWRP I just got an error message that it wasn't successful. I then did this as I read earlier in this thread: fastboot flash boot 2.8.4.1.img. When I started the phone, it immediately boots into the TWRP but I can't get anywhere from there. Impossible to continue to the OS. When I connect it to the computer I just get an exclamation point in the device manager and I can't seem to find the correct drivers (I've installed the FlashTool Xperia Driver Pack). The phone worked perfectly in windows in both normal mode and fastboot previously. Since the phone doesn't have an external memory card, and since I can't transfer any files to it from Windows, I'm stuck in TWRP.
Is it bricked or can I get out of here?

Flash stock firmware ftf using flash mode in flashtool and then follow the instructions from here.
Or else:
Boot Your phone into recovery. Connect it to PC. Right click on the device in Device Manager, select update drivers, "browse my computer", then "let me pick from list" then select the driver similar to "Sony a0109 ADB drivers" (number may vary). Then You will be able connect to phone via adb. Then use following command to push the ROM and gapps to the phone internal memory:
Code:
adb push ROM.zip /sdcard/
adb push gapps.zip /sdcard/
This will copy the the ROM and gapps to phone which You can flash via recovery easily then.
worked perfectly! thanks for your time and help, much appreciated!

Download the Flashtool from here. After You install it, Under the folder "C:\Flashtool\drivers" You have Flashtool-drivers.exe. Install drivers from it which are related to Xperia S as well as the fastboot and flashmode drivers. Then You will be able to go into fastboot mode.
