Hi guys,
I bought this Z1C second handed, found out it was rooted so I "repaired" it with PC companion. Bootloader unlock availabe: yes, so I assume it was locked, though I don't know if it has ever been unlocked. However I did not check if the DRM keys were there. Shortly the phone fell asleep and never woke up. I brought it to the service as it was still under warranty.
The question is - can Sony service technician see something that a normal user can not? If the the DRM keys are lost, but the phone does not turn on (none of the key combinations did work), will the service find out about the unlocking of the bootloader?
Thank you and happy new year to everyone.
Unlocking the device needs an unlocking key from Sony.
And before you get this key you have to tell them your IMEI, so if it was unlocked, Sony knows that...

Requesting an unlock key is no proof that the user actually unlocked it.

If the keys were backed up an restored, no, if not, and you can tell by doing THIS, then they will, and being a user created issue they may charge you for it.

But to verify them, the phone needs to be turned on (in order to dial the code) and mine does not do so. Is there a way to check the DRM keys via PC even when it does not detect the phone?

Help me please. i have some questions on terms i am having a hard time to understand.
What does OTA means?
What does a bloatware means? Someone said that if i rooted my phone i can still update my phone as long as the bloatware is backed up?
I have a kernel version of 2.6.32.9-perf,and a build version of 3.0.1.A.0.145, are these version can be rooted or bootloader unlocked or do i still need to change or upgrade it to a newer one? how do i do it?
And what is a omnius and what is a TA backup?
I badly need somebody's help. To help me clear my mind on what to do on my phone. I promise to press the thanks button a single time on my computer and a million times to my heart.

Ota means "Over the Air" It's basically when an update gets pushed directly to your phone over WIFI.
bloatware is when SE and networks add there own apps ontop of the default android apps.
TA stands for trim area. It holds unique information dedicated to your device.
omnius is a software by the omnius team, it allows you to back up things like your TA and GDFS it also can unlock sony phones

Sim free is when you can use any sim with your phone, sim locked is when you can use only one network. Ok try this turn off your phone, plug the usb cable into your PC, hold the search button on your phone and plug the cable in your phone, if the led on the power button goes blue you can easly unlock bootloader.

No, if you use the official bootloader unlock method, you will not be able to ota update. Using ota will brick your phone. There is paid method of bootloader unlock though, with that method you keep DRM certs and ability to ota

No it's from users on here, they use a tool called setool. You have to connect the test point behind battery and setool can unlock bootloader, unlike the official method it's kind of an engineering unlock, what the sony repair centre would do if you bricked your phone, then they can relock and send it back with no issues
i used jinx13 http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4002805 to unlock mine. it was only £15 an took 5 mins, you should pm him
So I've heard about bootloader unlocking which, I guess, enables me to have full control over the device (not like rooting, I understand that) and to do stuff like flashing new ROMs, etc.
But what about network unlocking? I mean, I'd like to be able to use my phone on any network I wish, do I need to unlock the bootloader for that? Do the network restrictions automatically disappear if I unlock the bootloader?
Also, is there anyway I can disable network restrictions by myself (without using something like a special SIM card or asking for remote unlocking) without having to pay for any unlocking service or ask someone to do it for me?
Thanks in advance! :3

Hi, so to answer your question, when you unlock the bootloader the sim lock remains, also afaik there are no "free" ways in which to remove the sim lock at this moment in time, the only way is to get the unlock code from your service provider or pay a remote unlocking service.
I think i may have seen on the arc forum somewhere for a small fee you can get your boot loader unlocked and sim unlocked at the same time.
One last note if your arc is sim locked there is a chance that you wont be able to unlock the bootloader via sony ericsson developer world, depending on your carrier

That means it's also possible to unlock the boot loader remotely?
Also, if there's someone who can do it for us (small fees inc.), that means there's actually a way to do it, right?

Yes there is a way to do it, i cant remember how much it costs exactly, but it's done remotely and sim unlocks and boot loader unlocks at the same time

If someone else can do this as a paid service. Why can't someone explain how its done and make it available for free?

As for that i cannot answer.. But at a guess a lot of hard work will have gone into this. It keeps drm intact, provides Sim unlock and enables fast boot on handsets which didn't have it before, if i was in that situation with my arc i would have gladly paid, and i myself think the Dev/Devs are entitled to some hard earned cash

Hi guys, i have a question, i want to return my phone for warranty and i've read this thread that if your bootloader is showing 'relocked' you cannot return the device for warranty.
I am here to ask if there is a way to make the bootloader show 'locked' bootloader instead of 'relocked'?
it would be GREATLY appreciated if you could help me. thanks!
for those who want to relock their bootloader can follow the instructions here
There is no way to do that ATM.
If the problem is the hardware issue, HTC should honor the warranty.

actually i'm looking to sell the phone, the phone have no issues whatsoever, but if the person i sell to wants to claim warranty, it may be an issue.
Not possible. When you got your unlock bin from HTC, it logged the device info. There gonna know right away it was tampered with.

Correct. From what I've read, unlocking voids the warranty instantly (even tho htcdev says it "could" void your warranty) So any repairs are gonna cost you.

OK.. while trying to re-flash my phone after messing up, I tried to re-lock (fastboot oem lock) and it put up 3 messages, 1 succeed, 2 failed, on reboot of phone it read locked.
Yes!! Locked not re-locked ! I forgot I had not flashed stock recovery ! So triued to unlock, it worked but I could not flash stock recovery, failed, but I could re-lock with same LOCKED message, if I then went from HBoot to Fastboot I got a new menu SECURITY .. bellow locked a message SECURITY WARNING, if I select SECURITY menu then I get a new screen , KEYCARD failed, and reboots.
Anyway the LOCKED was enough to get the phone swapped as its two weeks old, any way after charging and attempting RUU again it locked on black HTC screen most times it booted.
Still maybe this menu holds a key to S-OFF, and maybe the relock failing can be replicated, it seems to have sent only 1 of 3 parts if the file across, so if you phone is bricked maybe you can give it a shot for htc service cover by part re-locking in some way.

and was hoping we could make some headway on it.
I noticed you are on Vodafone Australia.
I spoke to multiple stores and service reps and each of them said the same thing, that merely unlocking the bootloader will not void your warranty with them assuming a hardware fault. They even allowing discussion of bootloader unlocking in their community forum.
They did say however that flashing custom roms and rooting will void your warranty as per usual and any damage caused as a result of overclocking or messing with voltages etc is not covered.
I don't know if that is any help, but they seem pretty good about it so long as you didnt cause any actual damage yourself

If your bootloader unlock allowed status is no then you will most likely never be able to unlock that phones bootloader. I think your best bet is to contact O2 and tell them you want a phone on which the bootloader is unlockable, perhaps they can give you a special key to unlock the functionality, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Oh and don't try CM on it, it'll just bootloop and you'll have to use SUS or PC Companion to restore a working OS.
...actually there is one hope, but it requires dismantling the phone. There is a test-point behind the battery which might enable you to put the device into a mode where it'll accept a command allowing bootloader unlock. But again, high risk, not sure if it's actually possible, easier to just sell the phone and buy an unlockable one if you want to run CM. Maybe you could even return the device, how long have you had it?

Hello there,
I was thinking about a test.
My problem is "Unlock bootloader allowed : no".
What could happen if i restore an other TA partition with "Unlock bootloader allowed : yes". I erase the old by a new one which unlockable. All i need is a TA partition build with a z1c which unlockable and the unlock code.
What do you think ?
Soory for my bad english
If you replace your ta partition it will most likely hardbrick your device.
What is a ta partition, i don't understand.
A bootloader is like a bios on motherboard.
But it is locked by a code.
The bootloader is the same on each z1c no ?
