My defy is barely 2 months old, i am running CM7.1 since it was released and its quite smooth with no problems till now.
But recently i went to a remote place (i made another post somewhere) and switched SIM cards, i switched back SIM again now. Since then, my defy randomly dies sometimes while holding it and most times while in my pocket. My battery percent looks fine (i wiped it just in case).
This happened to me several times, i suspected the battery was loose, so at the beginning i reinserted my battery 2-3 times and it would start again. But now even after reinserting the battery it refuses to turn on, i usually need to connect it to a charger (or USB) and after the LED light turns on, i can switch it back on, disconnect it and use it again.. until it dies again randomly.
I tried inserting a piece of paper as padding to prevent the battery from moving, but didnt help much. When i shake it a bit, it dies too, so it might be a loose battery or some hardware problem, but the reason im baffled is why i cant turn it on again without connecting it to a charger, and also why it dies randomly when i leave it alone and didnt even touch it. Also, i never dropped it even once or mishandle it at all to make the battery be loose, when i insert tha battery, it still snaps/click into place just like when it was new.
ANy help suggestions will be appreciated. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to provide a detailed account.
I found an almost similar problem but no answer here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109429
Firstly, check if your setVsel settings is all ok and not too low down specially the voltages settings. If you're not using SetVsel, then check your 2nd-ini in system - overclock settings, see if it enable and check those individual settings which might be too low that caused the phone under power/voltage and triggered self shut down.
Another option to narrow down your issue is trying another battery. Buy or borrow from a friend. If the case of random shut down still occur, then it might be hardware issue in your Defy mainboard. BUT.. I would flash it to another rom to make 100% sure before sending it back to the shop.
Thanks a lot for the reply, im not sure if its an overclock or vsel issue because it even dies sometime while booting up if i move it around, so im guessing battery or mainboard issue?? Ill have to check with another battery first then... hoping its not a mainboard issue coz the nearest service centre is miles away from where i live
i rehoused me xperia play and when i tryed to turn it on i just got the blinking red light, so i bought a new battery that worked for 45 mins when it overheated to 47degress then died so i bought a external battery charger and the battery charges but when i put it in it overheats and dies in an hour and when it charges it gets even hotter and dies faster..... does anyone know how to fix this cause i cant afford to buy a new phone anytime soon
Are you using stock firmware or a custom one?
Stock
well the same thing happened to me..
i rehoused my mobile. but when i was closing up the phone, without putting in the back housing, i tried to switch on the phone so i would check if everything was fine or not. But what i did wrong here was that i just inserted the battery in wrong direction. Negative to the positive and vice versa. Nothing happened at that time, and the phone did not turn on. Upon realizing my mistake, i tried to power on my mobile again with the correct battery connections but this time the phone just wont turn on. There was a weird red light that started blinking and the phone just wont turn on.
so i completed the housing process thinking that maybe that was the problem and there was some sort of a sensor or something but that damn thing just wouldnt turn on. even if i put the mobile on charge it wouldnt turn on. so what i did was, i again opened up the back of my phone, deliberately put the battery in wrong position, tried to switch the phone on, and then i put the battery back again in the right direction and as i press the power button, walla, the phone is alive again.
BUT...
its getting HOT. damn HOT. after only being on for about 5 min, the battery got hot to 54C. upon inspection. i found out that the battery is not getting hot, but its the motherboard that is heating up.
i went to the service center, which opened up the board and found an IC that was damaged (caused by my battery mistake).
Found the IC from china. Ordered it, and TODAY it arrived. I will be going back to the service center, for replacement of the IC. If all is OK, i will let you know.
meanwhile, check out the pic of the IC that got damaged on my mobile during the process of rehousing and my stupidity.
hey thanks that helps cause i think i did the same thing with the battery...do u have a link to buy the new Ic?
FOUND a friend in china, and bought the IC from him ..
STATUS :
just now, after connecting the new IC, the phone has started working again. its NOT heating up. Everything is working fine..
EXCEPT
that now my phone shows no signals. In the settings when i search for other networks, i find many other networks also (MEANING THE TRANSMITTER IS WORKING FINE) but the phone just wont connect to my network and wont give me any signals.
I only get "EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY" status.
I am actually getting fed up of this set. Anyways, i hope u get the IC, and your phone works fine. ( I HOPE )

I did the exact same thing and have the same problem, but the difference is when i try the reverse method it still doesnt come on but cud i get a link to where u found the IC
The problem here is the same IC from the picture. Even though I found the replacement IC from China, I still couldn't get my set to start up normally without overheating. If you remove the IC from the board, the phone will start (even without the IC) but you will get no signals
For me, I was unable to get the phone back to its working condition. So I sold the phone as it was.

By inserting the battery in reversed position you probably caused some sort of short-circuit. You probably didn't burn only IC, but many different parts. When the part is damaged and short-circuit exist in it it heats up very very quickly as the current on this part (any many other parts that are connected with it) is very big (this also causes very quick battery drainage). So it means you had probably burnt the mainboard even if the phone switches on, so getting new mainboard is the only sollution to get the phone fully working (as I think you aren't proffessional who can diagnose and repair it. Neither do I ).
I hope this helped somehow.

Hello all I too have an xperia r800i play with the same problem or better the battery under the battery becomes very hot in a few minutes, and drain the battery quickly. Moreover, even when you plug in the charger not charging? only shows the loading icon but then not charged and only the LED flashing red?
And you can not start the phone FASTBOOT? because the LED flashes blue and then turns on a second phone in the normal
how can I do to fix?
thanks
Hey,
i have the same problem.
i tried isolating a pin from battery (the midle one) and i got it to work without heating, i thought it was fixed but then i took the battery back out and overheated again maybe theres something wrong with the pins any alternatives?
i did the same thing my phone is in the fridge now i boosted the battery by usb with bare wires got it started up hoping to get to 50% charge then try a reflash see if that works
I bought a note 10.1 2014 Ed a couple of weeks ago on eBay. Not refurb and sealed in the box.
Devastated to find tonight, after completely discharged and shut down, that it seemed not to charge at all.
It becomes stuck on either the battery symbol, where nothing happens, arrow doesn't spin and no animation, or goes to the device model name. All the while the brightness flickers.
Have tried various chargers, I've taken all the cards out but nothing is working
I think it may be a loose connection with the battery (but open to other theories).
If anyone has had this problem, how have you fixed it? Is it worth disassembling and trying to fix it myself (as I'm sure you can tell I don't have a lot of knowledge about this)? Being an eBay purchase is it still under warranty with Samsung? How much would a fix be if it was a loose battery?
Thanks in advance

As far as I am aware items from ebay are not covered under warrenty.
Even with the screen off and nothing happening, leave it on charge for few hours then unplug and try to put it on.
Also have a look into the charger port of the tablet at the bottom to make sure nothing looks bent or out of the ordinary.

I have not had this issue with my Note, but my Nook did the same thing once. I disconnected the battery for a few minutes and everything reset. No idea if this will help, or if you are adventurous enough to try it.
Here are some pictures of the Note tear down. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49595697
samsung sm-p605 dead not starting, screen flickers
i am going to try removing the battery as u said.. lets see..
anyother ideas plz let me know..
but shld i do this quite often?? is this an known error of note???.. do we have this problem when complety drained????
samsung sm-p605 dead not starting, screen flickers
no luck.. i removed the battery from the board, then plugged in back after couple of minutes..
still in same state..
the screen flickers a lot.. is that normal when the note is completely drained..???
It is very bad for the battery to go completely down. I don't let it happen on my devices, so I cannot say if the flicker is normal.
My experience with the Nook was actually a friend's device. He had let it run down, and it was not charging. He left it on the charger for a few days, and it was still not showing a charge. He gave it to me to check out. I disconnected and reconnected the battery. It was probably half an hour or so, because I was interrupted. When I reconnected the battery, the Nook popped on and reported a full battery. Apparently it was charging but not registering anything, and the disconnect allowed things to reset.
If you do not any other ideas, I would suggest leaving on the charger overnight (or longer) and trying the disconnect again. Maybe leave it disconnected longer too.

I have the same exact issue right now! But mine is a refurbished unit. I tried the battery unplug, tried leaving it charging overnight, letting it discharge, flashing new roms, new kernels, etc. Nothing. THe only thing that did work a little bit was changing the kernel. Other than that, even flashing stock ODIN roms wasn't working.
When you charge yours, does it charge up to 75% but won't go any further? And does it take an extremely long time to get there? Because mine does. Reading about other devices that have the same issue, it seems to be the battery. But the other devices were phones. This is a tablet. The battery costs $65 :/

I know this is a very late reply and you have probably solved your problem by now, but for future readers with this problem:
I currently have the exact same problem, and just found out what it was. Either my charging cable (official Samsung cable) is faulty. I plugged it into another microUSB cable, and it is now charging again. No more battery symbol that doesn't have the spinning animation or flickering, and now it turns on.

Thanks for this information. Exactly this was the issue. Great!
Charging works and screen stops flickering with Samsung charger if you let it charge in Recovery mode. Mine is still charging as of now, so I don't have any news further yet, but it went from 0% -> 3% after around 30min.
Other than that, I only managed to get charging working with a Motorola's turbo charger.
Hello,
I have a problem with this tablet , when i charge it to 100% and use it for like 5-10mins i'm suddenly at 1% battery. But i can still use youtube or other apps for 40mins + So i'm pretty sure the battery is at 95% or something.
Also when i charge and stop charging it can reset the whole thing and say that i have 2% battery.
I already tried to charge 100% > let it decharge 40-50% > power off 5houres > but didn't help..
Somebody said remove the battery for 5mins and problem is gone..
Anyone done this so far?
i'm on STOCK ROM , no root or what so ever.. NO battery save app or something like that.
Hi, I'm having the same issue but it's not as dire as yours. Since you're not rooted or anything, I strongly believe it's a hardware issue, try replacing your device cause it shouldn't drain that fast. I'm using nolekat rom and it takes me 10 hours to charge fully or more but half the time for it to be drained. I haven't tried removing my battery manually but you could try that too. Most likely it's a hardware issue since you didn't mess with it so much. Hope this helps.

Hi,
My tab is getting switched off frequently though the battery is fully charged, it suddenly dies down during any kind of work and im not having battery draining problem in my tab. But when I plug in a charger or battery bank then the tab works fine with out shut downing. Is this problem related to battery or hardwire or software. Kindly suggest if some one facing similar situation
Hi XDA
I have another problem, not too bad as yours, but very nagging and upsetting. What happens is that my tabet takes practically half a day for charging up the battery. It takes like 12 or more hours to charge up from 0 to 100%. I have tried unplugging the battery as you explained many times, also draining it, but nthing changes. And even worse it is when I'm just plugging my device after totally drained the battery, so when I try to boot my device it may boot up, when it does, after one minute it's turning off because of a suposedly 0% battery. Really I might get either that 0% or 1% battery, but after a minute when I just plug it in and boot up, it may turn off even though I turned off the sceen inmediately.
I think. the problen is maybe on the battery or in the USB port, I have tested many USB cables, many chargers, charging from my PC, but the problem keeps going an and on and on. I would like to know why this problems is happening, if I could fix it up by myself, for instance by replacing the battery or the USB port. This device was a gift, and since I got it I was dithering whether it was normal or not, but by asking soome mates and reading your post I realize that this is not normal.
Hope you read this quick reply. Many thanks for your advice and giving me advice on what and how I should do...

So many thanks for your advice!! I went to buy Samsung original charger. I'm very happy now. My tablet now charges way faster (in 4 or 5 hours). I didn't ever think of this before.
Can anyone tell me the best rom for SM-T211 and the links to download it please
And thanks in advance

Hi,
I have strange problem and I think it's from the main board..but I just need experts opinion first, so may I could solve my problem without changing the full motherboard and save some money
my tablet working fine but I can't charge the battery, when I connect the USB cable it shows me the battery status 100% !, and the device instantly powered off if I pulled the USB cable from it.
when I noticed that I did a simple trick, I completely removed the battery and connected the tabled directly to the charger, and it shows me the exact same status, I could even power on the device and use it with out battery inside, just counting on the charger, and the device still show me the 100% battery statues
At the beginning I thought the problem is from the battery it self, so I decided to buy new one, but the same problem still exist. so....I think my main board is working fine but with a simple issue...it can't detect the battery.
so my question is...do I really have to change the main board completely, or I can just fix it by replacing a small part...like the battery port or something like that??
Same problem
My husband has the same problem, his tablet only works if the charger is plugged in. As soon as you pull out the charging cord it shuts down, but when you plug it back in it reboots and works. Tablets are mobile device yet he cant move away from a plug
Everything else about our 8.4 Pro is wonderful, even at 3 years old so we'd like to find a fix. Any solutions?
