Seems after getting the Note 4 I have found my self wondering how I was ever with out root. Its crazy I cant stand this phone with out root. Its maddening to know I have Ads and apps I don't need. If Verizon didn't offer this phone at Christmas for 150.00 I would have never got it. #1 Reason no root was out yet but I took a chance. I know now or always have that you DEVS work hard to get stuff done. This was just a big ....
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK!

We share your pain. There's a good thread on root workarounds:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/qa-unrooted-miss-root-aroun-t2931785
Specifically for ads and unwanted apps:
- Adguard (mobile+wifi, no MMS issues) or adblock plus (MMS issues due to locked APN) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/general/adblocker-rooted-note-4-t2959326
- Unwanted apps - http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/general/disable-knox-ota-root-t2972263

Why on earth would post the actual thread in the development section?

Can I root and/or install Custom recovery with update version NJ5 or do I need to factory reset and revert back to NI1. I have the SM-N910V and I'm having trouble. I can show my Odin logs if need be.

You can only root/TWRP.....if you have a Developers Edition. ...bought straight from Samsung. Retail editions bought from Verizon can not be rooted or have custom recoveries installed at the moment.

It is something new to allow new users with less than 10 posts to ask a question directly in the development thread...but to avoid spam and such it makes a Q&A thread and alerts the developer. I am glad you liked the ROM. I wish I had time to Update it to ND8 or to work on the HTC M8 but at the present I don't.
Old-style installer
It's not your flash card. Look in Phil'z settings for the option to "Don't Allow Old update-binary". Uncheck it. Install the zip. Enjoy the goodness.
2 questions
This is a great rom @Kenny!!Thanks first for all the work you've put into it.
I have 2 questions....I initially installed 3.31 and wiped all including system. Then I factor reset back to stock and flashed 3.17 following the instructions to a T. Now im trying to flash 3.31 and i get the error
format() expects5 args, got 3
E: Error in /storage/sdcasrd1/The PeoplesRomv3.31.zip
(STATUS 7)
ill try the response about checking Phil settings and reply back what happens.
Also since running 3.17 i have been promted to update firmware to 4.3,what i want to know is will this foob anything up as i really like this rom and would hate to start again and have possible issues. if i update will i continue to get update prompts...i was on 4.4.2 before i started this all.
Thanks in Advance
EDIT: Figured it out(looking thru the thread),updated to the latest Philz, reflashed 3.17 rebooted and signed in. Rebooted to recovery flashed 3.31 and all is well(did lose root though, but reflashed SU as well)....really nice rom...:good::good:
Xposed Mods and SuperSU
So forgive me if this has already been answered I did try searching the thread prior to posting and didnt find anything. Nonetheless when I click on the Framework Installer button or the Wanam Mods I get the message " Unfortunately, Wicked ROM Control has stopped" and it essentially force closes. What is it that I need to do to remedy this? Thanks in advance

knock on feature loss after twrp install?

Autorec works with ZVE, I just did mine today. I did have the problem with white lines on waking the screen which was fixed by flashing another kernel. Try this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-g2/general/ls980-zve-ota-zip-update-zvc-zve-t2912488/page18
If you don't already have root stump using their brute force option works with ZVE.

I am on zve and still with stock recovery. I have tried to install twrp recovery before and did the white line fix and all was working well until I realized that I lost the knock on feature. does anyone know of a fix for this? I really want to start tweaking the rom but I can do much with out twrp because I don't want to have to keep lg flashing from the start every time I mess it up. my phone is the sprint lg g2 LS980ZVE stock rom currently with 200 app frozen with app quarantine. thanks for any input.
There are newer twrp releases that have a working knock. I just use AutoRec it's a TeamWin Recovery worth it no question. ?

sms
does it have sms functionality?
After loading n7 lte kitkat-bootloader to run SlimKat Bricked Phone
So my phone has officially died after following the advice to install "n7 lte kitkat-bootloader" onto my s3. My computer now reads it as SMS and won't apply any drivers to it. The screen is black and cannot be started into download mode or back into twrp Not sure what to do. I've been looking for a way to interact with the phone via usb without using adb but without any luck. It is my guess that the "n7 lte kitkat-bootloader" cause a boot failure within the phone. Perhaps there's someone with some advice?

Can you elaborate? Both of these worked for me, but it took a few tries flashing it. First few flashes resulted in bootloops. I don't know why it eventually worked; I must have clean flashed three times into bootloops before it finally booted.

For those of you running Gear VR Oculus.
You must Odin the stock tar first: Link to Stock Tar "URL"
Then Odin TWRP Link here: "URL" and then flash the Gear VR Definitive Rom Package: "URL" Link Gear VR Definitve Rom NJ5 V1.0
You will not have CD Installer mod or ASEC. As these mods stop Gear VR from working!!

Your link for Gear VR Definitve Rom NJ5 V1.0 seems to be broken.
I had to remove the working links in my reply due to low post count.
It seems that to try to get this running is kinda hard with the VR.

Are there any updates on the retail verizon note 4 root?
I was excited when I found the stock odin thread because I have the N910V NJ5 but then I realized they were just flashing my stock Rom on to the DE. This is the first android phone I have had in a long time and I got it because I wanted to root it. But apparently I didn't do enough research it was a last minute decision to grab the note instead of the iPhone 6+ I had in my hand.
Gear VR on 1.6?
I just read through this whole thread. Great stuff!
I either missed it or there isn't any confirmation yet that Gear VR works on v1.6. Can anyone report their findings on this?
This link on the OP looks like it's only relevant for V1.0, but I'm not certain: Link Gear VR Definitve Rom NJ5 V1.0-Still Testing-Not available yet!!!!

This rom have french language? ???
I'm having issues writing to my external SD card with version 1.6 of this rom. I can write files to the SD card without a problem, but once I reboot all new files are gone with only the new folders remaining. Any ideas?

Factory Reset
Has anyone having issue with the Factory Reset with this ROM? When I rest the phone, instead of taking to the window to erase all data, it takes me to the wi-fi settting. Thanks.

Try doing a factory reset through TWRP recovery or by reflashing the ROM zip file.
My baseband is 910VVRU1ANJ5... Is it a DE phone? Or is it so obvious that I would know if I had a DE phone? Thanks!
Did you buy it straight from Samsung, did you pay full price, did it say Developers Device on the box, under the battery and when you boot into download mode does it say "unlocked"? If not then ...no.

None of the above... Thanks for the prompt answer. I think this is my 12th Android phone and it didn't dawn on me that I wouldn't be able to at least root!
I just came over from FireKat ROM because I wanted to my Note with a Gear VR and noticed the status bar on the home screens is black. Tried some Xposed Modules to get rid of it and have a transparent status bar like I did with FireKat but I'm unable to fix the situation. Any ideas or is the status bar just always black with Definitive?
im running 1.6, do i need to do a complete wipe before upgrading to 1.9? or can i just do a cache/davlik wipe?
Sorry for the n00b question guys, but I just got my DE Note 4 today. I flashed the TWRP recovery and rooted, but I am having my doubts on flashing this ROM because I have a different baseband than the one in the title (N910VOYU1ANJ5). My question is, will I pork my new toy by flashing this, or will I be fine. I tried googling and couldn't find a definite answer either way. Thanks in advance.

Remember: Read twice - Flash once
Just confirming...
Sorry I'm still relatively new to Andriod and never rooted or messed around on the filesystem of my Note 4 before. But after going through the apps (and permissions they have) after my phone was explioted from a hardcore BIOS rootkit I got on my computer, and the hacker that followed. It is absolutly crazy the stuff that comes stock on these phones, makes me kind of sick. Needs cleaned, I don't even like carrying it and I'm using a No Root Firewall, which makes me even sicker when I look at the log of blocked access to all this junk. Done ranting.
Seems to be relatively straight forward as far as a Linux-esk filesystem layout. Just confirming this will still work fine on a ANJ5 build, not ever turning the phone back in to verizon so that doesn't matter.
Another random question, anyone point me in the correct direction for possibly running from an SD card or dual booting this model note 4 with a linux OS. Could be a live instance or persistant, doesn't much matter to me. Rather have something like Debian or Kahli. Would be nice to be able to pen test from my phone.
Apologize if this is the wrong spot for this.

Is there any way to get Sprint Zone back? Apparently it's more than just installing the apk. I know most people probably don't want it but I'd like it to see my data usage.

I don't know why but I can't turn off 'Do not keep activities' in the developer options. I'm not sure if it's related to this rom or not but thought I would ask here.
