Enable Service Mode without root? - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Done quite a bit of reading and can't find much on the subject. I'm using a retail version of the Verizon model on AT&T. I've read that LTE band 4 can be enabled via Service mode? Would that in any way let me grab LTE with my AT&T SIM in this phone? I get everything but! Is this possible or is this a dead end dream wishing for AT&T LTE on a Verizon device? I'm on a retail model so I don't have root yet to dig in further. Thanks for any insight.

[Q] Enabling T-mobile LTE on an AT&T Note 2

Have an AT&T i317 unlocked with a T-mobile data sim.
I've done the tweak to enable the 3G/4G bands, a la http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2068041
But now T-mobile added LTE in a few markets. I drove through one and suddenly got no data access. This is with "preferred network mode" set to LTE/WCDMA. If I switch to GSM/WCDMA, all is well (it sticks to the HSUPA and H+). So clearly it thinks it's on LTE but the phone can't access the T-mobile LTE.
I'm using Cyanogenmod 10.1, android 4.2.2, which also makes the model number show GT-N7105 instead of i317.
any tweaks to add the LTE? do i need to dump CM and use a diff ROM? do i need to go back to stock first to do any of this? (Right now, I can no longer dial *#7284#)
Thanks!
I am having a similar issue, I have a sgh-i317 with aws mod and the phone is not picking up t mobile lte even when placed next to a sgh-t889 that is getting it. Lte works with att sim but not working with tmobile sim. Any help would be great. I have tried many roms and modems and reflashing aws mod. Roms inculde jedimaster13/14 jedi x13/14 both att and tmobile versions and clean rom and stock 411 and stock 412
I figured it out see

Does the AT&T version have LTE? If it doesn't have the capability, but he modem is telling it to access it when it sees it, that might be why it dropped out completely. I'm mostly curious to see if AT&T LTE devices can use t-mobile's LTE network because I want to get an s4 active and I don't want to lose LTE by making that switch.
Try this for me, instead of that model number you have. Change it to the T-Mobile model#. Which is going to have to b done thru the build prop. Then reboot. Then go try and c if you pick up lte.
Because I just flashed a AT&T Rom on a T-Mobile GN2. And I pick up lte just fine with my AT&T SIM in there! And no AWS MOD what so ever. But the MODEM is still TMO, it'll always b TMO. Flash a att modem on a TMO GN2. Brick city.
Let me know what happens just curious!!
Edit: the Rom I flashed was SKY NOTE 9. No modem included!!!

I don't have any solution for the question but I do have a question of my own.
Why do I keep reading of people buying att devices for t mobile, why not just buy the t mobile version?

WELL, here's your answer.
Maybe they getting the device at a cheaper price. Which would make someone but it. Instead of spending a lot more to have have the carrier brand you need. FYI
Both the phones are exactly the same. Besides the model# and done bloat. Like I said above, if it's unlocked it'll work, with both carrier's. So why not have that option to switch... and one more thing being able to take the phone internationally, and pop a SIM inside and ya have service. No roaming !!!
Just my 2¢® 2 you're question...
Att now has prepaid lte plan almost same as tmobile only .5 gb less of data everything else the same at 60 dollars . Plus att has better coverage well at least in the areas I frequent .

When a t-mobile version is available, I do buy it, but with ATT exclusives, that's not an option. For instance, I want the s4 active for its water resistance. T-mobile will soon offer the xperia Z, but when you compare the features and perormance, the s4 active is better, so for the money i'm willing to spend on a smartphone, i'd rather have the s4 active.. the hardware is capable of t-mobile LTE, but it still has to be configured properly with firmware and software to use the radios correctly. Since radios are some of the hardest pieces of firmware to alter, it's worth doing this investigation / collaborating to find work-arounds.
I didn't get tmobile lte on my at&t note 2 until I flashed the new at&t radio. That's all that had to be done. I'm using Skynote9 too. I did the aws mod again so I could get h+ 4g speed enabled and now is a flawless tmobile phone. Let me know if it works for you.

AT&T G3 on T-Mobile?

Is it possible to use the AT&T version on T-Mobile and get LTE? I compared the bands online and it looks like it should work, but wondering if anyone has actually tried yet?
Also read a post in another thread where the guy claimed that the AT&T version is unlocked out of the box... seems unlikely, can anyone verify? Thanks.

it is not unlocked out the box my att asked for sim unlock code when i tried different sim but i would like to know abut using it on tmobile anyone have info on that?
I am curious about this too. I have an AT&T G3 coming tomorrow and would like to know if I will be able to put a T-Mobile SIM card in it
yes u can
But if it's not unlocked how can it work?

Once you SIM unlock it you'll be fine. However you will not have VoLTE (coming soon), WiFi calling, or an unlocked bootloader. I'm not sure why you would even want to do this...
Other than those things... It works fine.

No variant of the g3 has a unlocked BL. Its cheaper than s T-Mobile version and it's the same other than the carrier bloat so why not pay less?

Because the bootloader on the D851 is in fact unlocked. It's the only US variant with an unlocked bootloader. And if you didn't care about that you'd still be missing WiFi calling and VoLTE when they push it out.

Just sayin.

I have a T-Mobile SIM card for a prepaid plan. I don't get WiFi calling, as far as I am aware. I just want to be able to make and receive calls. Data isn't even that big of a deal for me since I'm around WiFi so much.
Does anyone know the process to unlock the SIM?
I don't believe the ATT version supports AWS band over 3G/H+, so if you're in an area where the TMO tower is using that, you might be forced down to E, G, or have no signal.
I believe the TMO version doesn't support LTE band 5, while the ATT version does. The only carrier I know of using LTE band 5 is U.S Cellular, so that might not be an issue.

Yes it does support it, surprisingly. Per FCC documentation. Of course, AT&T might have disabled those bands in software.

Old thread, but it's worth pointing out that T-Mobile also refarmed 1900mhz in a number of areas to support HSPA+, so the potential lack of 1700/2100 HSPA+ shouldn't make that much of a difference.
Once or twice, my wife's Lumia was connecting on HSPA+ when all I could get was EDGE, suggesting to me at least that HSPA+ over 1700/2100 does not seem to be possible on the d850, despite what the FCC filing might say. If I'm wrong, I'd love to be corrected on that.

[Q] Which G3 from which carrier is the most versatile?

I'm on cricket cdma, I'll be purchasing a g3 to go on cricket gsm. To one day if i'd like bounce between sprint and new cricket as I please.
Now the dilemma here is which is the g3 that will enable me to do so. That is also unlockable rootable and backupable, as well as has the qi charging backside. (I've only read here and there att ver does not have that)
I'm left with sprints actual g3 t mobile's, or Verizon's....
Please help me in my hunt thanks.

T-Mobile has a unlockable BL according to reports. So that's your best bet and it supports qi.

I meant unlockable in terms of cdma, and gsm capabilities
Would t mobile still be best?
On the other note I have been bartering someone for a locked sprint g3 as low as 400 bucs I figure ill never find it.that low ever for some.time but its locked so is the cheapness worth it ?

Verizon Note 4 on Straighttalk

Hello,
I just got my note 4 via Amazon today. I was trying to be smart and save some money by trying to use Straight talk service (At&t) on a verizon Note 4 because it was a $100 cheaper. Considering the fact that verizon devices are unlocked for GSM use I thought why not try my luck.
So off i went to experiment with a great deal of doubt if this might work. Popped my Sim in, peeled the protector off and first thing i did was to create and save my APN. It took me less then a minute to realize the harsh fact that LTE was not going to work. Searched the web, called Customer care (like they would actually be of any help) and found nothing. Nada, zero, khallas. The dreaded 'H' is all i get and its annoying the crap out of me.
And here I am now debating whether i should spend a $100 more to go get the att note 4 or send this back and get the nexus 6. Almost out.
SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE.
Thanks!!
LTE only works with T-Mobile using Verizon phones in most cases.
Uhh if you did your research before hand you'd know that the Verizon version only supports LTE Band 13/4 while AT&T uses different bands for LTE. It's literally listed on the product's page on Verizon's website.
I'll not hesitate to admit the fact that I'm an idiot.

Att lte ? I just saw your said att lte in your post. That's awesome ! Where did you buy your developer edition ? I check Verizon website and didn't see it there

Yeah, I've the Att Micro SIM in this device. It's not the developer version, just the normal Version infact. Verizon devices are unlocked right out the box so you don't have to go for the region unlock. Cheers!

Straight Talk is AT&T and Verizon, it uses both, and I know from experience moving Verizon lte phones to Straight talk, every straight talk phone ends in -A or -V depending on which network is used.
So wat all we have to do is put a straight talk sim in a verizon phone and it will work cause I am confused here straight talk told me I can not use a verizon note 3 or 4

First it has to be compatible, you can go to their website and check the imei. If compatible, you need to go through the process, which in my experience, costs about 8 for a code you need. They also sell kits in the store. Not all phones are tested to work, but many do anyway.
Bit of a cell noob when it comes to this stuff since I've been on a contract for years but I'm tired of paying 90 something odd dollars for just myself so I want to switch to Straight Talk. So if I want a Verizon Note 4 (Verizon is the best service in this area and I need it especially where I'm at) I just buy an unlocked Verizon Note 4 and then get a Straight Talk kit from Wal-Mart to use with it and it's that simple or is there more to it?
Yes. It will work just fine. I've had the same combination for 2 weeks now and works great. One step you will have to do is to create an APN setting on the phone to have working Internet. Just search for Straighttalk ATT APN settings through google. Pretty simple!
Sent from my SM-N910V using XDA Free mobile app
All you need is a ATT Straightalk SIM and that will do the trick. Use APN settings on their website to get working data. Verizon Smartphones in the last year (especially IPhone 5 and above) are compatible with GSM (Straighttalk/Cricket/T-Mobile)

root at&t galaxy for use in australia?

I was told that I cant use an at&t gnote 2 in Australia but from what I've read a i317 will use the same band and the lte standard. Does anyone know of issues with using an at&t gnote downunder?
Should run fine with the proper APN settings...
The LTE bands are looking to be the same....depending on carrier and in some cases the location in Australia...
Give it a go...but have a plan B...g

Why do you need to root it? As long as it's SIM unlocked it should work on most GSM networks in the world.
