Verizon Note 4 on Straighttalk - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I just got my note 4 via Amazon today. I was trying to be smart and save some money by trying to use Straight talk service (At&t) on a verizon Note 4 because it was a $100 cheaper. Considering the fact that verizon devices are unlocked for GSM use I thought why not try my luck.
So off i went to experiment with a great deal of doubt if this might work. Popped my Sim in, peeled the protector off and first thing i did was to create and save my APN. It took me less then a minute to realize the harsh fact that LTE was not going to work. Searched the web, called Customer care (like they would actually be of any help) and found nothing. Nada, zero, khallas. The dreaded 'H' is all i get and its annoying the crap out of me.
And here I am now debating whether i should spend a $100 more to go get the att note 4 or send this back and get the nexus 6. Almost out.
SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE.
Thanks!!

LTE only works with T-Mobile using Verizon phones in most cases.

Uhh if you did your research before hand you'd know that the Verizon version only supports LTE Band 13/4 while AT&T uses different bands for LTE. It's literally listed on the product's page on Verizon's website.

I'll not hesitate to admit the fact that I'm an idiot.

Guys. LTE just popped up on the phone this morning. Straighttalk Att LTE does work on the Verizon Note 4. I can confirm that! This has just made my day. The gamble did pay off.
I appreciate the feedback from you guys.

Straightalk uses both tmo and att.

Att lte ? I just saw your said att lte in your post. That's awesome ! Where did you buy your developer edition ? I check Verizon website and didn't see it there

Do they come unlocked to use on all carrier or still need to be regional unlocked ?

Yeah, I've the Att Micro SIM in this device. It's not the developer version, just the normal Version infact. Verizon devices are unlocked right out the box so you don't have to go for the region unlock. Cheers!

Did you buy the phone or did you find it? Just curious if "bad" esn phones will work outside of verizon network.

I hope more people can confirm it working on att because I've always been told Verizon uses different bands than att

Att LTE from what I know should work on band4.

Straight Talk is AT&T and Verizon, it uses both, and I know from experience moving Verizon lte phones to Straight talk, every straight talk phone ends in -A or -V depending on which network is used.

So wat all we have to do is put a straight talk sim in a verizon phone and it will work cause I am confused here straight talk told me I can not use a verizon note 3 or 4

First it has to be compatible, you can go to their website and check the imei. If compatible, you need to go through the process, which in my experience, costs about 8 for a code you need. They also sell kits in the store. Not all phones are tested to work, but many do anyway.

Bit of a cell noob when it comes to this stuff since I've been on a contract for years but I'm tired of paying 90 something odd dollars for just myself so I want to switch to Straight Talk. So if I want a Verizon Note 4 (Verizon is the best service in this area and I need it especially where I'm at) I just buy an unlocked Verizon Note 4 and then get a Straight Talk kit from Wal-Mart to use with it and it's that simple or is there more to it?

Yes. It will work just fine. I've had the same combination for 2 weeks now and works great. One step you will have to do is to create an APN setting on the phone to have working Internet. Just search for Straighttalk ATT APN settings through google. Pretty simple!
Sent from my SM-N910V using XDA Free mobile app

All you need is a ATT Straightalk SIM and that will do the trick. Use APN settings on their website to get working data. Verizon Smartphones in the last year (especially IPhone 5 and above) are compatible with GSM (Straighttalk/Cricket/T-Mobile)

Can this phone if unlocked support At&t's 3G network?
Yes, it can. Buy it outright and you can unlock it for free right away. But you will only get GPRS, if I am right.

I have an unlocked T889 running 4G (HSPA+) on AT&T. So long as you have a data plan it'll work. LTE radio is software locked for now, but really HSPA+ is fast enough for most uses and probably doesn't drain the battery as fast.

I feel your pain. Sometimes reading thru all these threads, we have people who profess to claim certain things, and it goes against the grain of what is actually truth.
Especially with something like this phone where there is so much interest - I'm still trying to find the right information so that I can decide between purchasing the T-mobile or AT&T versions of the phone.

I have the TMobile SGH-T889...paid $25 to that cellunlocker cite, used their code with my AT&T HTC One X SIM in the Note II. It registered on AT&T, so I ran some speedtests with the Ookla app. I got test speeds in the 3-4Mb/s range, which in my area is as good as AT&T's HSPA+ network gets. The same SIM pulls the same speeds on my AT&T One X.
Conclusion, it works on AT&T 3G/fake-4G network no problems.
That said, the exact same phone, in the exact same location, with its TMobile SIM in it, gets 10-12Mb/s on the speedtest app. Not sure why I'd want to run the AT&T sim in this phone with that kind of speed difference.

It actually is pretty simple, but you have to have TMobile give you the unlock codes to your phone. Basically once you have the ATT Sim, insert it and your phone should prompt you to enter a carrier unlock code. This is where you enter said code once obtained from TMobile.

Awesome. Thanks! So do i just ask for the code or lie my way around and get it? Also, any setting i need to adjust to recieve data and mms? Ive read some have had issues not sure if this applies with the tmo code tho

You may need to set your APNs if you make the switch and lose data/signal. Just Google ATT APN settings and it will explain what you need to set. (Prepaid plans might have different APNs so make sure you find the right one for your plan)
As far as obtaining the unlock codes from TMobile, you could try saying your leaving the country on extended vacation, that may help, but if your still in contract and they refuse you there's nothing you can do.. other than call back and get a different rep.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Thanks man^^
I spoke with a tmobile rep and they are going to email me the unlock codes within "72hrs" ill be waiting. So after that is done i will proceed with the rest of the process with an att sim.
Yes i will Google the apns once i get the rest sorted out. Looks like its not that hard after all. The most hassle is going to be getting a sim activated since theres no store near me gonna have to order one online

You can always go with StraightTalk. Their plans are cheaper than att prepay and have semi unlimited data.(something att prepay doesnt). And they have tmobile compatible SIM cards. Which doesn't required unlocking. If you receive better service from att then get the att compatible SIM. Will require unlocking for that though

I'd go with Straight Talk also. I just switched my girlfriend over to it because she was paying over $100 per month for a decent service. She doesn't get LTE (but her phone doesnt support it anyway) but for $45 unlimited data, text, calls, its worth it. And it's on the AT&T network.
Well i already had ordered the prepaid micro sim card for at&t. That's what im waiting on right now, after that i will go to the next step.

Hey guys should I be careful buying a used tmobile phone? How can I be Shure the is good to use? Not stolen or in the blacklist or what about if I buy the phone and then the seller report it stollen. Will tmobile disconnect my phone even if it is on simple mobile? Is there a safe way to do the transaction. Lots of questions. Thanks
well, it is not safe, if the phone report stolen or blocked it by tmobile, you can't use it with simple mobile. and there is no way to know if the phone ok or not, it will works for a couple of days/weeks/months but once tmobile block it. you will be sorry. anyway I bought mine from amazon, I talked to them first about people selling phones on amazon and then the phone gets blocked. they put a note in my account that if the phone got blocked I can return it back for a full refund no matter how long. and btw mine is used.

T-mobile phones are the worst to buy used because it can be blocked for 2 reasons, unpaid EIP and phone reported stolen. I almost got burned but luckily I was able to tracked down the previous owner. The phone worked for weeks before it was blocked. Scarry.
This is currently my experience.
I own an AT&T Galaxy Note 2 that I just got yesterday. I got it unlocked, and right there I'l put Simple Mobile on it and it worked just great with the only exception that I get only 2G on it and I'm on an area where most T-mobile users get 4G.
So got somewhat disappointing but didn't give up. From there I rooted it and I flashed a T-mobile SGH-T889 ROM on it and it ROM itself works, but with Simple Mobile I still get only 2G.
From here, I'm thinking the only thing I'm missing is the Radio (or Modem if you wanna call it that way) for a T-Mobile phone since I'm suspecting I'm still using an AT&T radio.
I haven't done enough research to see if I'm right on my theory. So as soon as I get back to the kitchen I'll flash a T-Mobile Radio and see if that works.

[Q] Change S4 from T mobile to Verizon towers

Hello all.
As you can see by my name, Im'a Noob! i have a good understanding of computers and cell phones and can follow directions well but have not attempted anything like this so....
Here's the deal, Today i went to Wal-mart to get a new phone for my wife. I decided on the T mobile Samsung galaxy S 4 (on the Wal-mart family plan $40 a month unlimited) . unfortunately, it apparently does not get signal at my house. What i desire to do is move it to straight talk. because Verizon does have signal at my house. So from this point, is there any way to get this Galaxy S4 to see the Verizon towers and work on the Straight talk network using those Verizon towers? And If So, Can someone please post the step by step instructions (without assuming that i know what a jailbreak or unlocking is) so that i can make my wife happy.
Please and Thank you in advance for all your responses and help!!

Can't be done
Can't be done. T-Mobile is GSM, Verizon is CDMA, incompatible networks.
Straight Talk resells service for the major carriers but for Sprint and Verizon, who are CDMA carriers/networks, you have to get phones compatible with CDMA to use on Straight Talk and vice versa for T-Mobile and AT&T.
ok how about this

Neither the T-Mobile nor AT&T variant will work on Verizon. Period. There isn't an unlock you can do, no ROM you can flash, no special code you can put in to change that fact.
For ST or Net10 to use the Verizon towers you need a CDMA phone, which the M1919 S4 is not. As was mentioned in the post above mine, you DO have the option to run off of T-Mobile or AT&T networks either through the respective carriers or use those towers via Net10 or Straight Talk; but using the Verizon towers in any way is impossible with the particular device you purchased.

Its a hardware issue think of it this way its like using an AMD motherboard with an Intel processor they just don't fit together.

Where'd you buy it? I bought mine from TMO and was told I can return it within 30 days for a full refund. As others have posted, you can't do what you want with that phone, period.
Edit: Reread your original post. If you have to have Verizon then the phone you bought won't work. Just like a AM radio won't pick up FM stations. It's that simple. Take it back to Walmart and get a refund. BUT, if you can live with using T-mobile away from home and have wifi at home you can get a T-Mobile plan and use wifi calling and internet access at home, and the TMO network elsewhere. You want to use wifi at home anyway because it doesn't count towards data or calling usage. It's all seamless, so there's no problem using it that way.
Dude seriously I find it hard to believe you don't have Wi-Fi in your home. Because if you do, your problems are solved. Your phone supports Wi-Fi calling and messaging (SMS/MMS). This is why I switched to T mobile.

You can sim unlock then activate with at&T but the signal won't work well all because every carrier use different frequency bandwidth it won't be the same

If you say you paid $650 for it today, then why not return it for a refund if you don't get TMobile service at your house? Why are you suffering yourself all this turmoil?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe the AT&T and T-Mobile variations are able to pick up 100% of each other's bands so this argument is invalid.

Help

I have the Galaxy Note III on T-Mobile, but it's AT&T branded. Are there any workarounds to get mobile hotspotting through my carrier without rooting?
No I had 1 and sold it due to that issue . I rooted and tryed disabling teathering provision but never worked

Thank you for your feedback. I am doing the same thing as well. Nice phone, but AT&T was not very good for me after I switched from T-Mobile and the Note II. I am on T-Mobile now, so it's slightly better, but everything but Verizon sucks in my area, but Verizon charges too much. They need a prepaid $60 plan w/ 4G LTE and I will go with them (at the expensive of having a CDMA phone without flexibility to just pop different companies' sim cards.)
Np I use a tmobile note 3 paying around 140 for 2 phones and unld lte. Best service so far. Next to vzw.
