[Q] Changing ROM Region? - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Q&A, Help & Trouble

From my device:
AP: T325ZSU1BNK1
CP: T325ZSU1BNK1
CSC: T325OZS1BNK1
Baseband version T325ZSU1BNK1
Kernel version [email protected]#1 Tue Nov 11 21:20:55 KST 2014
Build number KOT49H.T325ZSU1BNK1
I live and work primarily in the United States, and realize there's no official US ROM for this device, which I purchased new from eBay. However--given that I speak English--I wonder: are there ANY advantages or disadvantages to switching to a ROM designed for a largely English-speaking region (e.g., UK)? As I understand it, to avoid tripping KNOX, I'd need to use a ROM dated no later than the one presently installed on my device. I've rooted my device using the Towelroot app and directions so nicely detailed elsewhere on this site. But, I'm not clear what practical differences exist between the various regional ROMs. Can anyone clarify for me?
Many thanks.

XAR is the regional code for usa, all regional roms are almost similar but vary a little depending on rules amd regulations of given country, apart from this i have no idea about others.
Sent from my LG-D800 using XDA Free mobile app

like poster above said XAR is US / English, it's also known as Cellular South.

Thanks. And sorry. Looking at my original post, I find that I neglected to mention my device name, but only provided the ROM version. Mea culpa. I have the SM-T325 (LTE), for which there's no US-based carrier support, AFAIK, and no XAR ROM on the sammobile site. Unless I've just missed it.

I know there's a trick which can enable US English without rooting as long as EN-US existed in framework-res.APK.
If you just need EN-US language, you can use some simple commands which is required for morelocales2 (no rooting required).

If you need to enable English on the tablet then just go to
Settings -> Controls (3rd tab) -> Language and Input ( First item on left pane) -> Then it will say Language in the right pane (first item) click it and you should be-able to select English.

Thanks. The Tablet arrived NIB "speaking English," so that's never been an issue. I merely wondered if there was any reason to consider changing to a different ROM. Sounds like not.

As far as I know, I don't think there is a difference besides probably minor things (like default language) , even my Note 3 n9005 I bought at walmat in the US had the United Arab Emirates firmware installed in it and it still worked with my USA carrier

New firmwares XWJG1 and XWJFF !

XWJG1
It contains 2 CSC files. The localization is russian and ex-USSR.
XWJFF: This is the European version, with corresponding localization.
Both files can now be found on samsung-firmwares.com
Known bugs:
The JG1 version has a serious issue with SMS, i.e. cannot send SMS written with Swype. This can be fixed by installing [email protected]'s custom rom (r2).
Some clarification on CSC, as explained very nicely by andrewin on forums.samdroid.net:
"CSC contains some country-specific apps (for example, uTalk and Naviphone for Russia), and also country APN settings.
If you enter *#272*HHMM# (where HHMM the time on your device, eg. 0750 for 7:50am) in the standard dialer and see a choice of several country codes, you have Multi CSC. Once selected, one will be applied erasing all your data.
Otherwise you will see only one country code which is already applied, that means you have Single CSC.
The CSC stays till you flash a new Multi CSC that does not have selected country code, or flash new Single CSC. "
The file in the JFF firmware is a "multi CSC", and has APN settings for western European countries, including the UK. The CSC files in the JG1 firmware, are Russian and ex-Soviet settings, and that's why the phone starts in Russian. I guess it doesn't matter since you can change the language to whatever. But your country-specific apps will not be there by default, and you will have to re-install them (Voice Search for example).
The countries contained in the multiligual CSC of JFF are listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7080300&postcount=76
And it turns out (thanks rodney.cabahug) that you can use the multilingual CSC (I9000OXXJF9) together with the code and modem files from the JG1 firmware. (the files in JG1 are newer by about 5 days - but not necessarily better, there is a possibility that the only difference is in localization). Also, if you do this, the Swype problem disappears for the JG1 firmware (presumably the swype problem lies in the russian CSC file).
XWJFF CSC file only: http://www.zshare.net/download/780481035c540e0b/

With the usual method from LeshaK? (update.zip etc?)
How are you finding it? What are the changes?
you probably need to use odin
its very easy
i used odin to flash the firmware and update.zip to root the device.
well.. it seems the same as before
think i need some more time experiencing this firmware.
no problems have found so far though.

Well first impressions on Modaco are not negative at least. But it looks like the stalling problem has not been completely eliminated...
I wonder if the GPS issues are fixed.

When you flash this with Odin, do you select re-partition?
How can i flash this and not lose all my settings?

today i rooted my new phone using adb... easiest method ever!
and now i flashed XWJG1 using ODIN3, everything worked, but now only the phone version is displayed, not the pda or csc versions... is this normal?
under telephone info - build number it says ECLAIR.XWJG1
also all apps and accounts are still there
Edit: Now my Phone isn't rooted anymore! Titanium Backup and busybox sy that! Should I just use the adb Method again?
Protected apps are not showing up with this version.
So is it better than JFB or JF5 ?
Swype was working in German before, now it is only english. How can I change that back to german?
I feel that the GPS is somewhat better in this version and it feels a bit faster. All the swype languages are there for me.
yes, I can select all swype languages, but only the english dictionary is being loaded. all other languages get an error

I didn't use a csc file... could this have something to do with my swype problem?
What information is exactly in these csc files?
btw: I did the adb Method again to gain superuser rights again... works

So does that mean that JFB contained more languages than this one?
I also think from reading on other forums that the OXE is the CIS countries (former soviet republics)...

[Q] 4.2.2 update what do you think??

hey guys simply Iam still using Android 4.1.2 Would you advice upgrading to 4. 2.2 ?? the other question is why I didn't get the OTA update ?? by the way my tablet model number iS GT-n 5100
Thanks in advance
Was the question that hard???

No But the answer is!
I'll try to keep it short as we already have a thread on what all noticeable has changed etc.
1: Upgrade or Not as of now is more of a subjective thing. What I may find might better/worse might be completely opposite for you, as a lot of minor things have changed. Given that most will succumb to some form of an update and have to accept what is made available to them at the time, it seems like updating should be perhaps a good enough consideration, however, check your region and firmware on sammobile.
I would advise against updating unless applicable firmware version for your region ends with MI1/MI2 or above (MJ1,MJ2..,MK1, ..) (I/J/K denote build months, in this case being september/october/november resp). There are noted issues across different region with older 4.2.2 firmwares. Mainly S-pen and Magnetic cover issues (alarm) which again may or may not be of any consequence to you.
Q2:. Why didn't you get an OTA? :
2.1: Is your Device factory Stock?.
2.2: Might have to do with that samsung has not released updates for your device region yet and perhaps also look into settings if auto OTA Updates are enabled.
I have updated my Note 8 today manually because it has not been available neither via OTA nor via KIES - a quick check on SAMMOBILE shows no 4.2.2 version published for my region. Therefore I decided to push manually the latest 4.2.2 XX version (XX in the name of the ROM means that it is for Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom).
Note that it is the third 4.2.2 XX release which I hope is good enough. Samsung has released 4.2.2 versions for a few other regions too dealing with the reported problems. I am not aware of any strict schedule region by region - it means that you may wait quite long for your regional version. Therefore I replaced my XE version (Bulgaria, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Ukraine) with the available XX one.
The update went smoothly even on my encrypted Note 8 and at first glance everything is running fine, every setup and data is preserved. The first thing I noticed was the "flatter" color palette as most of the contemporary changes in the colors. I do not see change in the performance, neither the sound quality for example...
There are some minor improvements in the 4.2.2 user interface which I was missing in 4.1.2 and they were the second driver for the upgrade. The main was the sheer curiosity .
So, it is really up to you whether you will go for your manual update

Probably because all roms don't have every language pack. It adds a considerable size to have un-needed languages in the rom...

My P605 ITV have all the European languages, so Swedish is included. For Chinese, I don't know how is written in Chinese characters, maybe is the last one from the attached list?

However I think you could flash another 605 rom (like the Italian-itv) to obtain your preferred language also if you bought it from others countries.

By the way, thank you for you help.

Hello everyone,
The more I look on this forum and others, the more I am tempted by a flash to solve the problem I have :
I bought a SM-P605 in Hong Kong but the languages available on the device are only English and Chinese.:crying:
So I'm thinking of flashing the device with Odin and install the P605XXUBMJ9_P605OXXBMJ2_XEF firmware to get french language by default.
Has some else done it before me ? Did it work fine ?
I think it should be :good: but still, 5 questions torment me. If someone has answers, I'll be really thankful !
1) Does the 4G works fine after flashing ? Does the modem driver of the XEF ROM (P605XXUBMJ9_P605OXXBMJ2_XEF.zip ) is 100% compatible with my hardware purchased in Asia? How can I be sure? FYI my operator is Bouygues Telecom France.
2) How is it going after for updates ? Will I need to reflash everytime to update the tablet or the OTA update will still work normally ?
3) What about the flash counter ? I realized that the Knox counter would not be affected if I install an official version, you confirm ? But will the flash counter be affected even if it's a official ROM that I install ? And will it also cancel my warranty ? What impact will this flash have exactly on the device ?
4) Is it certain that my CSC will change for sure to French with a flash of my device for the P605XXUBMJ9_P605OXXBMJ2_XEF firmware ? Or is there a chance it won't change anyway ?
5) Last but not least, small detail I need to understand before I flash : what is that strange file " SS_DL.dll " which was in the zip package of the official rom for my tablet I downloaded SamMobile ? What should I do with it ? It must be loaded in Odin or elsewhere before flashing or should I just ignore it ?
Thank you in advance for your feedback. Sorry if those questions seem stupid to you...
And please should I be warned about other potential important problem not mentioned above before flashing ?
Of course I'll take my responsability but If you think of something else, please let me know...
I'm a newbe, ready to enter the Galaxy world, flash my first device and share with you my experience in return but I do not want to ruin everything because I can also just simply exchange my tablet for a multilingual one, even if it would cost me money...
Anyway, here is the descreption of my device. Thanx for your help !

[q] sm-p6000zkvxar ?

Hi,
I will purchase a 2014 edition note 10.1 from Bestbuy but the model number says SM-P6000ZKVXAR

Yes, I am currently writing this message using this exact model, with CleanRom.
Cellular south is your device's region, which is also your CSC. Doesn't really affects anything in terms of wifi (not sure about 3G, it might have slightly different frequencies, I don't know).
The only way it affected me is that my samsung keyboard doesn't have sub-characters enabled (long press for quick access), so i had to install Xposed to fix that (it still has sub characters in a menu, don't get me wrong).
You can ask me anything, I have this exact US model with XAR CSC

I am at Turkey and my settings are also Turkish.
I have other Samsung devices which the Twitter works fine with Turkish settings (Note 8, Note 10, S3...)
Also, when I find Twitter from Samsung apps, it works. I just can't find it pre-installed or on Google Play.

Based on your posting I looked at Play and see that Twitter is showing as incompatible for me also. I am based in the US. However as stated Twitter is preloaded on my tablet.
I have run into the issue with ~10 apps reporting as being incompatible. This is my biggest complaint about the tablet.

SM-N920A, firmware and language

Hello,
Just got a hold of a AT&T Note 5. From what I have read so far, I understand you cannot use a different firmware without bricking the phone. On my version, there is only a handful of languages available, which is very different from the regular Android versions I have encountered. Is there a firmware available for this particular model that have more languages?
Thanks.
How to add Langugage (Russian) ?

I believe this is an internal debloating process decision since the AT&T phones was only made for use in the United States anyway. It seems as though you are out of luck, since rooting isn't an option, so you may have to buy another rootable Note5 (or phone)
