SM-N920A, firmware and language - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note5

Hello,
Just got a hold of a AT&T Note 5. From what I have read so far, I understand you cannot use a different firmware without bricking the phone. On my version, there is only a handful of languages available, which is very different from the regular Android versions I have encountered. Is there a firmware available for this particular model that have more languages?
Thanks.

How to add Langugage (Russian) ?
Please help me to install Russian langugage to Phone Settings !:плач::плач::плач:

I believe this is an internal debloating process decision since the AT&T phones was only made for use in the United States anyway. It seems as though you are out of luck, since rooting isn't an option, so you may have to buy another rootable Note5 (or phone)

[Q] Galaxy Note 2014 (china firmware help)

Greetings, few days ago I was in China and bought GN 2014. As most of you know in China they block access to play store and install their own firmware. I already rooted my device, and was wondering how I can enable all languages, because currently, there are 3 languages. And also, How to install play market on it. I tried downloading apk. file, but its not working (Installed but won't open)
Help please. (Sorry if this question is too noobish)
I think that the device then has no Google license, making it impossible. There are only the various other stores.
This is definitely the case with exotics, like car stereos(Parrot Asteroid). In this case theres probably a solution, which of course requires root.
Why don't you try to flash with ODIN some of the official ROMs ? Then you will have no need of ROOT and will have all the languages. What is the model name exactly ?

Flashing an other stock firmware works fine I did it on mine.
But expect some little lag there wasn't on the chinese firmware.
I'm in China too and am considering buying the Note 10.1 so I'll be facing the same problem.
With a Chinese friend's Asus Transformer Prime, I flashed an official Taiwanese ROM so that she could access Google Play, but with this method you no longer get OTA updates. Also, as mickmad noted above, you can sometimes get unpredictable performance issues if you use ROMs intended for another region. Only later did I find that you could just install the necessary Google apps while keeping the original ROM. Here's a method devilfun here on XDA used for the Prime, perhaps it will work with the Note:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21094128&postcount=11
The .rar referenced was a package of Google apps, I think. I haven't checked the package myself, but note that you probably need GoogleServicesFramework.apk and Googleloginservice.apk in addition to the obvious ones. Simple_noob may have been unsuccessful for any one of several reasons:
1. The apks were copied to the wrong location before installation.
2. Not all the necessary apks were copied.
3. The necessary file permissions were not set.
If you can work it out, let us potential Note buyers in China know how you did it!
Well when i said more lag I meant that other region firmwares have all the samsung apps which tends to produce some little lag (where chinese firware has only a limited part of these samsung apps.)
Really no big deal as it will be corrected in future versions I am sure (see the example of mk1 firmware for p600)
Not sure for OTAs thought, but i never waited for them anyway on my other devices.
And just to got the samsung keyboard (and not the one for chinese which is different) it already worst the change .... plus getting rid of chinese useless apps, some settings which weren't in english even the language was set to english ... choice between almost any language ... and so on
Thanks a lot to everyone who replied and helped.
I installed needed firmware and everything works perfectly

I have the same case as yours. I am planning to do the same as you did. Can you help provide the steps on how to flash another stock firmware for Note 10.1 P-601 model? Which region/country firmware did you use?

Just follow these steps :
1, Download any region / country rom from this link , preferable MJB being the latest. http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-P601.
2. Extract the downloaded zip file.
3. Extract the attached odin 3.09.
4. Enter download mode by pressing power+volume down , then volume up.
5. Connect your PC/Laptop to your Note , wait till the com port turns blue.
6. Flash the .tar file of the rom through "AP" & hit start.
7. Wait till flash is complete, & note restarts.
8. You now will have a working PLAY STORE.
other download links or torrents for official firmware
Great info supplied in the above posts ! I also currently have a P601 bought in China and would like to change the firmware but the rapidgator and terafile links aren't working so well for me.
Terafile now has a limit of one Gig for free users and rapidgator downloads keep failing mid way.
Does anyone have any torrent links or other download links for the official firmware?
Thanks in advance.
Hello,
I'm interested as I'm in the same case. Where can I download a good English version (wifi +3G)?

Probably because all roms don't have every language pack. It adds a considerable size to have un-needed languages in the rom...

My P605 ITV have all the European languages, so Swedish is included. For Chinese, I don't know how is written in Chinese characters, maybe is the last one from the attached list?

Thanks, yes at bottom 中文 = chinese.
However I think you could flash another 605 rom (like the Italian-itv) to obtain your preferred language also if you bought it from others countries.

yes, as it was in firefox.
I think i solve the probleme by setting by google account correctly.
By the way, thank you for you help.
gonna let you know if now every think is really fine
Hello everyone,
The more I look on this forum and others, the more I am tempted by a flash to solve the problem I have :
I bought a SM-P605 in Hong Kong but the languages available on the device are only English and Chinese.:crying:
So I'm thinking of flashing the device with Odin and install the P605XXUBMJ9_P605OXXBMJ2_XEF firmware to get french language by default.
Has some else done it before me ? Did it work fine ?
I think it should be :good: but still, 5 questions torment me. If someone has answers, I'll be really thankful !
1) Does the 4G works fine after flashing ? Does the modem driver of the XEF ROM (P605XXUBMJ9_P605OXXBMJ2_XEF.zip ) is 100% compatible with my hardware purchased in Asia? How can I be sure? FYI my operator is Bouygues Telecom France.
2) How is it going after for updates ? Will I need to reflash everytime to update the tablet or the OTA update will still work normally ?
3) What about the flash counter ? I realized that the Knox counter would not be affected if I install an official version, you confirm ? But will the flash counter be affected even if it's a official ROM that I install ? And will it also cancel my warranty ? What impact will this flash have exactly on the device ?
4) Is it certain that my CSC will change for sure to French with a flash of my device for the P605XXUBMJ9_P605OXXBMJ2_XEF firmware ? Or is there a chance it won't change anyway ?
5) Last but not least, small detail I need to understand before I flash : what is that strange file " SS_DL.dll " which was in the zip package of the official rom for my tablet I downloaded SamMobile ? What should I do with it ? It must be loaded in Odin or elsewhere before flashing or should I just ignore it ?
Thank you in advance for your feedback. Sorry if those questions seem stupid to you...
And please should I be warned about other potential important problem not mentioned above before flashing ?
Of course I'll take my responsability but If you think of something else, please let me know...
I'm a newbe, ready to enter the Galaxy world, flash my first device and share with you my experience in return but I do not want to ruin everything because I can also just simply exchange my tablet for a multilingual one, even if it would cost me money...
Anyway, here is the descreption of my device. Thanx for your help !

Rom Version (ATT vs International vs xxx) Compatibility

I've searched and can't find a specific answer on compatibility on ROMs and the different carrier versions of the Fire Phone. It's late so maybe I just picked bad combos in my searches.
1. a. Will it brick an AT&T phone if you install the international ROM (or vice versa)?
b. If it doesn't brick is it effectively turn into an international variant (or vice versa)?
2. Are the CM11/SlimKat ROMs ok to install on any variant (AT&T and/or International)?
3. Are the CM11/SlimKat ROMs ok to install on any size variant (32GB or 64GB)?
I know some phones it's OK and some phones brick when you install other variant ROMs so I just want to confirm before I buy an AT&T version. I also know some ROM's have to re partition the device and I wouldn't want to lose 32GB. I apologize if these have been answered but I can't find them tonight.

1.a. No.
Source: I installed the UK, US AT&T and US GSM unlocked firmware on my device (T-Mobile netlocked, Germany).
Every Fire Phone works with all variants in general (there are ofc. different pre-installed TTS languages, WiFi channel support differs, etc.)
1.b. As Jose-MXL mentioned, unlocked (as in neutral) describes it a bit better.
The US ''GSM unlocked'' firmware has multi language support, just like the other versions, so you're not stuck with English language.
Again, some WiFi channels won't work, e.g. channel 13 in Germany, because it's based on US standards.
The fimware doesn't affect netlock, ofc. If your device was netlocked before, it will stay locked. If it was unlocked with a code before, it will stay unlocked.
2. Yes, as far as we know.
ggow only mentioned v. 4.6.1 because this was the (latest) tested version at the time. People reported successful installation on 4.6.1, 4.6.3 and 4.6.4 variants.
3. Yes.
Only the system partition is affected when installing SlimKat / CM11 (sorry, just describing it very briefly ^^).
As you know from stock Fire OS, the internal storage and media storage share the remaining storage space, so nothing will change on that partition.

US Unlocked N975U1 Device language issue

Hi, I bought a few devices for our family from the US they came unlocked from Samsung
The phone model is N975UZSAXAA
The devices work with 0 issues except one of our family members doesn't really know English that well and if we try to put the device into one of the "additional" languages (Arabic) the device becomes split some parts of the phone are in English and the other parts are in Arabic
Is there anything i can do about that? maybe flash another firmware on it?

Closed phones on US networks are updated by the companies themselves, not by Samsung
Its update is often slow and it is not possible to install different ROMs on it
Even the bootloader unlocked nothing, because there were no ROMs for closed phones

Question Flashing ROM on Fold 3 - chinese to australian

One of our Chineese suppliers has gifted me a New Fold 3. The issue is the stock Chinese Rom, or rather the restrictions that come with it (nerfing most google based services, and apps i use all the time.). The device is great but restrictions applied give you a feeling of a second class android user, with core sevices absent: Play store, youtube, gmail, maps, chrome, android auto., can't even apporve family link download requests from kids. etc. etc.
I have made the choice i would rather go back to my S21 if i can't resovle this issue, as phone is useless like this.
Advice required on Loading Australian Rom via odin.
The phone model is: SM-F9260 which only seems to have overseas Rom available for download. Can i successfully load a ROM made for model SM-F926B (Australian) on a SM-F9260?
All the how to guides specifically say jou must select the same model number, and i don't want a brick it. Will have mud on my face next time i see the supplier if i have bricked their gift to me.
Any feedback/advice from users with more experience with odin and flashing would be appreciated.
Both are on Snapdragon CPU so shouldn't be any problem to flash it with PIT over the Odin.
But I never done it so I can't give you 100% answer.

Update: The AU version gave me an Auth Failed in Odin. Chances i could have resovled by unlocking the Bootloader which i didn't want to risk tripping the e-fuse. I ended up just using the Taiwan version which had the identical model number, and falls in the same region as China. Odin flashed without complaint. The taiwan version has no restrictions on google services, and once you set the language its hard to tell it from a regular AU one; unless you know what you are looking for that is.

Technically there are ways, just it is very grey as to when/how you trip the e-fuse. Some say if you simply unlock the bootloader and restart, others say when you load a bootloader that doesn't match model numbers, or is older than your current, or isn't offical samsung one. I personally don't know exactly. I do however know that i didn't trip the e-fuse when i loaded the taiwan version, and i didn't have to unlock the bootloader in developer options to achevie this.

you won't have the chance to trip. there is some check before the boot image is integrated. so it failed showing some error, auth or secure check failed etc etc.
if you flash variant home csc you will trip
TBH, I consider the Chinese version is the best version above all other region. The dual sim is enable on Chinese version, 512GB is the only available option.
As for google service. You don't need to change the Chinese firmware to Australian to enable it, the GMS is pre-installed. All you need to do is to find a way to install the google series apps as apk by yourself, it would work just fine.

BTW, the only version that Chinese region Fold 3 can change is the HongKong firmware, all other regions are not available. If you use Chinese region Fold 3 in Australia, the only thing you need to concern is the Samsung Pay, but Samsung Pay is fixed by the region and cannot be changed by switching the regional firmware.

Each to their own, if you like the chinese version great. I hated it, restrictions in every aspect of the firmware. I personally am unsure how you rate the chinese version better, when it is loaded with restrictions and hard coded settings that can't be changed, or if they can it is really a sub par workaround. Settings that are not present in standard android builds. What exactly does it have extra that makes it better? If you like it thou that is all that matters.
I loaded the taiwan version which yes is really just the hong kong version. No restrictions, no issues. Now it works just like any other standard samsung android build, you get in AU. Yes samsung pay that use the firmware version doesn't work great, but i prefer google pay anyway. No need to stuff around with downloading apk files from third party sites, for core functions. No need to even enable developer tools.
The chinese version sounds like driving a ferrari on a go karting track.....
Can you flash the Chinese or any international dual sim version to work in the US ?
