Hello everyone.
I recently downloaded a new rom and when I go to add a new shortcut to the home screen, under "program" none of the applications I have on my sd card show up.
Is there any way for me to add these applications without reinstalling them each time I add/update a new rom?
Thanks!!

Copy the exe of the program and paste a shortcut into the \Windows\Start Menu\Programs. You should then be see the program in the list when you go to add the shortcut on the home screen.
Depending on the program, you may need to reinstall however, as certain applications make registry changes as well and may not function without those changes. Others, such as games, sometimes store save files locally on the internal memory, so there is a chance that you may have lost those.
Hi,
as in the topic - is it possible to uninstall stock appz without root (superuser)?
If so (hopefully), which soft can I use and which appz can I delete?
Hi
No without root you cannot completely uninstall them
You can just "disable" them in the "Apps" settings
then they will not show up as app.

max
thx, well good to know.
by disabling them you mean that 1. they won't be visible in app menu and 2. they won't start with startup?
can I disable any of them?

What can i do with root that i cant do already?
Here is some of my wish lists:
1. Bring XBMC to the main page without going to settings.
2. Use a external drive in the back
Both are possible with root, as is making xbmc your default launcher.
XBMC on the main screen can also be done via 'sacrificial app' and Lama, and I have read that you can have xbmc as default launcher via careful use of Lama, but for me it was simpler to install Xposed, install the fire tv module, and install the xbmc that's patched to present itself as a launcher.
Xposed and mounting the external drive for apps to see both require root, afaik.

1. [LAUNCHER] XBMC for Fire TV (Root): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2790392
2. StickMount: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2792932
You will obviously need to root (http://www.firetvnews.com/how-to-root-the-amazon-fire-tv/#more-632) the KFTV before adding the XBMC launcher and external USB drive.

1. doesn't require root - explained in Wiki "Launch XBMC from an Existing App on the FTV Home Screen"
2. requires root
Can I still root the absolute latest version of FireTV (i'm getting a new one for my birthday next week)? What are the best instructions to do so?
As of right now yes you can root the latest Fire TV with the Towel Root apk.
What/where is the system file wherr you can change the hardware menu key to be recent apps instead? I remember doing it before but cant find it now, running hyperdrive.
Hello can I somehow save the Amazon Fire TV Launcher setting.
so that I can use it on another Firetv Stick as well.
Or is there a way to clone the entire FireTV (including all apps),
so that in the house all FireTV Stick 4k Max all look the same?

The only way I can think of is the initial setup on the setup wizard. Usually Fire TV's give you an option to show your backup settings and restore them with the apps you've installed and settings you've enabled and disabled. Excluding 3rd party apps. The last resort would be to factory reset your devices and apply these settings with the backup
In conclusion there's no method of backing up without fully unlocking and rooting the device
Thank you very much.
If I had root access, would a backup then be possible.
What are the alternative ROMs for possibilities and which is the most popular?

Yeah no problem! With root access yes a backup would be possible using the app Titanium Backup. You basically can backup app and data at the same time. Be warned though if you do have any rootable Fire TV devices that if you fully backup TWRP with your data, it'll kick you out of the Amazon launcher and force you to sign back in. There was a post somewhere on here showing users how to backup apps and data like you were questioning but with no luck. Users have tried certain commands (forgot to list any) without root and it seems to not be working in particular.
Edit: I've tried running these backup commands directly from the developer android site where it shows the backup manager commands: https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/data/testingbackup
I tested the backup with this command on adb shell and it shows as given:
adb shell bmgr backupnow com.amazon.tv.launcher
Error: Could not access the Backup Manager. Is the system running?
Ok I found the post here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/problem-for-restore-app-on-fire-stick-4k-max.4544731/
Which ROM with root would you recommend then.
Is all this also possible via a Macbook pro?
It is important to me that I have the same settings/apps on all my FireTVs
have the same settings/apps. Without that I have to
have to adjust manually.
