Facts, it all depends on AT&T if they want to do any damn work. We may not see Lollipop until maybe mid 2015, if at all.
There are quite a few CM12 Lollipop builds for the Note 2 as of right now. However, there still needs to be some ironing of bugs. The only bug that is critical for me is netflix

cm12 5.0.2 is just like Nexus 4 , 5 , 6 Rom , clean and working perfect , No Touchwiz
I disliked 4.4.2 TW rom because id have to charge my phone every 5 hours , with a GPE or Pure Android Rom i get 25 + on one charge

I have the Laza battery so I don't have that problem lmao. I also do get 2 days worth of charge on TouchWiz. It's all on how you use it compadre.

We'll see. I'l believe it when I see it
Are they saying they are going to update the LTE variants?
Where's my update ???....
Oh...I've got AT$T....so that means I'll be dead before they ever drop an update. ...lol...g
I was thinking of upgrading to a note 4 or mega but I think I'll just stop buying Samsung phones if att Note 2 doesn't get Lollipop or a leak within 6-12 months. Or atleast know for sure it will come.. because I keep hearing conflicting info... like it's still up in the air whether we will get it.
I might get an LG flex or Sony ultra z next....basically anything that isn't Samsung.
Like I said, I'll believe i when I see it.
The Note 2 is passed the 18-month updates requirement by Google. If it gets it, it will be a bonus but don't bet your money on it.

Google updates don't apply to Samsung flagships since, well, the Note 2 isn't a Google phone (Nexus). And that 18 month thing is arbitrary. Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 still had the update despite passing that update window.

Looks like most major carriers will get the G2. It is at the top of my list right now so i thought i would pick the previous generations brain on the Updates and Source release's for the phone. Anyone mind sharing some input on how often and fast Updates for this phone roll out and the delay time for source code. I come from HTC and with their poor attempts to fix my Thunderbolt and the fact they canceled any future updates for the One S just a few weeks ago i have decided it will be a long time before i choose another HTC device. (Although i would LOVE a phone with front facing speakers.)
If you know anything about Updates / Source please post your idea of speed development and source releases and your carrier.
Thanks in advance!
They suck... for short. 9 months this phone is out same as Android 4.2 and they still can't update. Go for Sony or wait for the the next Nexus 5. Better the Nexus 5. As good as the G2 will be... updates suck...... i don't know if i.will keep the G much longer, i rather choose the good updates and custom Ron of the Z or the ONE. Samsung sucks as well... they only update the good phones which are 2-3 of 100 they out every year. The S4 the S3 and the Note 2 and there are/will be far better phones in a couple of months. The next Sony, the next Nexus even the Note 3 will be better except for the Exynos which sucks in support for custom Roms.

Sony good with updates? Pffft good luck with that.
If you want updates go for a Nexus. I wouldn't go for another phone if updates bothered me that much.
Luckily the Gs stock ROM is blazing fast, so I don't see the need for a big update. But that's just me.

Yes. I know last year's Sony phone were not that updated but that's more because Qualcomm does not support the S3 chipset anymore and won't give drivers. But they made steps in the right direction in 2013. The level of custom ROMS is healthy, and they are stable (compared to other), they have their own AOSP project.... i don't see why he shouldn't choose the future Sony Honami with the 800 Snadragon and 20 MP camera, over the LG G2.
I know the Nexus will always be the best choice but sometimes you want a little more storage or better camera, or... so you should at least look at others.
I didn't even talk about the G2, I just said Sony updates suck. That's a fact. I know that since muy last two phones were Sony...
Sure, Honami will be a beast. But if I were concerned about updates I wouldn't consider it.
That's just my opinion based on my experience.

I'm really looking forward to KITKAT..
Nobody knows when or even if KitKat will be released for this tablet. Samsung does not provide timelines, the only way we know is through leaks. There haven't been any to my knowledge.
I doubt we will get it since we didn't get 4.3. Last time I buy a Samsung tablet

I think you guys are being a bit melodramatic. You have a perfectly functional tablet that doesn't have any outwardly obvious bugs or other problems. I bet you use it with no problems. Sure, it's nice to have the latest update, but it's not like you have significantly outdated software that limits your usage of the tablet. And should 4.4 land on this tab (for the record, I think it will), you guys will be happy for all of about 5 minutes and move on with your day. And of course as soon as a new minor update drops, the *****fest will begin again.
I am running custom build 4.4.2 on my Galaxy S4. Outside of some UI tweaks and ART, it brings nothing significant to the table.
Thats the attitude HTC had just before they started losing tons of money

There are many reasons why HTC is failing, but if this is even a reason, it's an insignificant one. Samsung has never been truly up to date on updates, yet they are second only to Apple in the amount of high-end devices sold. Most people, myself included don't really care whether we are on the latest version. We just care that our devices perform well and do what we need them to do. I only complain if an update screws something up.
And lets be honest here: you are running the latest version of all of the Google Apps. It's not like you are stuck on Gingerbread and being on Jelly Bean does not limit you in any way. KitKat will not boost your battery life, will likely not make your device faster, and does not add any significant features that would make a difference in your usage of the device. So what's the real issue? Because it's not that you are unhappy with your tablet.

I wish that was the case but it's not. I'm on the AT&T variant, and I'm still on 4.1.2. I have screen freezes (real and documented) and battery life isn't great. With that said, I haven't piled on the *****fest. But no matter what, this device really needs to get upgraded. I blame AT&T more than Sammy, but there is no reason why I should still be on 4.1.2 with a device that was announced in June 2013 with absolutely no word on when we'll get an update (either to 4.2, 4.3, or KK). That's pretty shameful. And with no releases of any kinds of source code or device info, we have no unlocked bootloader or custom ROMs. So, I'm basically on 2013 hardware with 2012 code.

I fully understand your concern. I have the Wifi-only tab and am on 4.2. I did not experience your issues with 4.1 but I do know that others have. The thing is, problems have to get fixed, and it's a shame that you are still dealing with them. I don't know if it's AT&T or Samsung in your case that's at fault though. My point was more to the effect that I don't care for software updates just for the sake of having a slight bump in version number.

Agreed. I am on the At&t Note 8.0 variant also and I too have freezes and lag. With that being said I know that At&t and Samsung don't have the best business relationship dye At&t loyalty to Apple. So an update may or may not come. If it does let's hope that At&t don't block or rip it up like they do with all Samsung updates

I got wifi only and I get freezes. The way to unfreeze is to turn the orientation of the note to landscape from horizontal and vice versa. I really wish for an update to fix that. And Yes htc has tons of problems but I believe the slow ass updates were the biggest driver of their customers (at least those who root their devices) to Samsung. Those people are also quite influential with their peers on recommendations

Let's be honest we all want the latest android but will LG update this tab that's less than a year old to Android L.
Or would you actually prefer to get a custom rom of Android L and get closer to vanilla android anyway. Thoughts? Comments? Leaks?
Sent from my LG-V500 using XDA Free mobile app
I doubt they will update...just a feeling. I would love to update to vanilla or aosp based ROM, but ultimately I need access to the GRemote app, so will probably stick with modified stock. If anyone gets the remote working with AOSP (I've tried the apk's on xda already), I'm flashing a vanilla-ish ROM asap.
I really wish that the device producers would unlock the device if the decision had been made to discontinue support. Granted it isn't too hard to get a custom recovery for this device, but I still wish it was standing policy to let the developers completely loose after a certain amount of time had passed on the devices... An unlocked bootloader after they discontinue support would be nice!
Now, to be on topic... I think we have a better than 50% chance to see an official L on the V500 and I hope we do.
the v510 will mostlikely get android L so there will be v500 custom rom android L versions
Trouble is lg rom while it has good features is terrible to use compared to stock android and I can't see them doing a good job with android L. They basically copy Samsung. For this reason I'm much happier with a custom rom. Just wish manufacture's would leave android alone. It doesn't need their help.

I think if the GPE gets updated to Lollipop, we have a chance of getting an official update as LG will get the new kernel code or something like that! The gpe is already being updated to 4.4.4. Let's hope we also get it as it fixes heartbleed and other security issues
It's really good that we are getting official little updates for our tablets which is way much better than any other tablets which more often than not will never get an update
This might be a little easier than a port androidpolice.com/2014/07/01/android-l-preview-source-code-going-live-aosp-includes-support-nexus-4-5-7-2013-10/?a=1
I got mixed feelings regarding the matter... On one hand, it should provide a better, smoother experience overall. However from what I heard, its using the ART as the default runtime... Not sure if they will still have the dalvik as an optional RT (logically it should as most apps are still incompatible with ART). Hopefully the devs make their apps compatible, or that the L have an optional Dalvik RT to maximize compatibility.
That said, I am wondering. if there is a way to use ART on one app and Dalvik on another app at the same time... Probably not.
The new version of ART is backwards compatible with dalvik apps. They won't get the benefits in performance from the new runtime, but all apps should work.

That's comforting to know. The only downside I see to this is that developers might see little reason to make their app "ART-ified" because its backwards compatible anyway. Either way, the new interface, though beta, sure looks purty. Ofcourse OEM's will find a way to mess it up. Excited to test out the first custom roms that will come out of it.
I think that will be update to Android L (if it start officialy at the end of year) due 18 months policy update, but it will be last.

Considering we're still only on 5.0.2 and 5.1.1 has been out for many months I'd feel there is little chance this year if ever. A custom ROM will be our best bet. Also be careful what you wish for as you still see many posts from people reverting to KitKat while Lollipop has been great for me.

M is supposed to be optimized and with several improvements in comparison to LP.
So if it can run LP than it will fly with M.
It's Samsung obligation to provide Android M, because of the 2 year firmware support. No excuses are accepted!
Being fed up with all my Samsung devices firmware sluggish and dated updates, I'm considering in the future moving to Nexus or Apple.
Samsung, please don't ask premium prices, and then provide the cheapest support.
I agree @pacc I think I will move on to one plus LG and nexus my next device wont be samsung
I read the other day that galaxy tab 4 is receiving android 5.1.1 around now , so I'm hoping the tab S will get it too...anything else doesn't make sense; both devices released around the same time, and tab S is the premium one...
As for M, that just wild speculation. My money is on "no, we won't get that"

IMHO, and I'm no expert just an end user, Android and Apple bite. Not ONE Android based device I have is capable of browsing the internet with the same functionality as Chrome, Firefox or IE. Facebook apps are lame at best and I prefer the interface we are given with a browser over any of the apps. I'm not going to buy any future Android based devices. I totally refuse to purchase anything from Apple after being stung buying an iPOD years ago.
So IF I ever buy another tablet, and that's pretty doubtful, it will be Windows based, cell phone too.
Samsung, Asus, Rockchip devices using Android....no more of my money....
Samsung suckered me in with a great price for awesome hardware but I am more educated now I would never buy a Samsung these days. I originally installed a custom ROM because I got tired of all the lag and bugs of Tab S stock kitkat. Expensive lesson as now my knox is tripped.. Samsung probably isn't excited to release software because everyone is wiping to get rid of lag then never reporting into their service. I lasted two months.. I would type a sentence then wait as it slowly came out, it was epic bad lag.
I lasted 2 days and tjen wiped and flashed a custom rom lol I guess thats the reason why they dont update

What's your favorite ROM today and why? Which ones have you tried and why are you on your current one vs another and do you think you you may switch back to another?
My personal experience:
CM 13 - I've tried a few versions, all seem a little buggy for one reason or another. It's been awhile so I don't remember what I had problems with.
I'm currently on PaulPizz, not the latest 8/14 version, but the one before that (7/24??).
I'm curious about the Note7 Grace port and what it brings to the table vs PaulPizz, and if it's actually buggy or not.

Note 7 Grace port is my favorite so far. It lets you experience the most recent version of touchwiz. and it has a working theme store. After using similar S7 ports based on the international version of the Note 4, the Note7 Grace port in my opinion is the best option we have for our phone.
As for the comparison I would say PaulPizz is more stable and gets a better battery life. Can't go wrong.
Note 7 Grace port has the newest version of Touchwiz, including theme store, and can be used as a daily driver. For me the only thing to be desired is a better battery life.
I haven't tried CM13 because I can't lose my SPen features.

I have to cast my vote for JasmineROM v7.0
IMO it's the cleanest and most stable TW ROM. I'd love to see an update (it's been over 2 months, let's get those security patches updated!), but it's extremely stable. It's not debloated, but @hsbadr wisely chose to leave that to the user, as everyone's needs/wants are different.
I know he's focusing on the CM base these days, but, IMO, there are (and I feel, for Sammy devices, always will be) things that CM doesn't do as well as TW. I've tried CM ROMs over the years many times, and have found ways to use the SPen, etc. but always come back to TW. The only exception I've found to date is on the 6P with Pure Nexus, but I am not sure I'd feel the same way if that device also had an SPen.
For me, at the end of the day, the most important thing a mobile phone must do consistently and reliably, is be a phone. I can't risk hot booting or freezing, or having other call/contact/record features not function 100% reliably, and solid reliability is definitely something Jasmine delivers.
I noticed that on PaulPizz, after several minutes of usage, Snapchat, specifically, my screen is hot and I get a cooling down message in my notification area. I'm not on the latest PaulPizz, I think the date is 7/24, not sure if that makes a difference or not. But, is this problem related to the ROM, Snapchat or just overusing my phone?

One way to know for sure if it's the ROM - make a full TWRP and flash JasmineROM v7.0 - set it up and let it shake out for the first day, then see if by the second day you're still seeing the same thermal issue. I can say I use my phone quite a bit and it only ever gets really hot if I clear cache and it goes through 10 minutes of "optimizing", but I've never once seen a notification about cooling down.
Bonus: You may decide you really like Jasmine and wind up sticking with that. Make a full backup after you configure it, then you could switch back and forth at will.

No, I did read the OPs for both and saw some known issues, which speaks to the reliability/robustness I cited above. Maybe some or all of those issues are worked out now, don't know? But, I'm very happy on JasmineROM, and I have next to zero time to experiment. I can say on my Nexus 6P, I am absolutely loving the PureNexus ROM with substratum for theming. The Nexus 6P is a fine device, much faster than the Note4 (as is my wife's Note 5) but, the Note 4 has a better screen, and of course, the SPen, and I'm still one to really want/require a removable battery. I've come around to the absence of a microSD slot (the 6P doesn't have one), because with USB C and OTG, it's just as good. I'd love the Note 7, but, putting aside the insane cost, has no removable battery, I'm not sold on the gimmicky edge, and, even though perm root was just achieved, still no unlock for the bootloader, so no TWRP [yet?]
That all said, maybe the fall's new Google phones (HTC) will be promising (New Android Central story says Google is dropping the Nexus branding)
cm13 is all I've used since I rooted, and I'm very happy with it. I don't get why someone would prefer touchwiz unless they reallllyyy need full s-pen functionality. am I missing something?
Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
I tried Grace and pauls and they are nice but i went back to CM13.. not a giant fan of near stock roms with verizon stuff still in them since i don't use verizon.
I just rooted my Verizon Note 4 a few days ago. Still going through the process of setting up stock 5.1.1 the way I want it so I can make a backup of it before I mess around with ROMs and Kernels. What's the best ROM/Kernel that will let me make use of the S pen and Note 4 capabilities? I heard about a note 7 ROM but it's a little overwhelming with all the options out there. I just need a good place to start. Right now I have a system only 5.1.1 firmware and oscar_kernel-v2.0 running on my newly rooted note 4.

What is the Note 7 grace port? I tried doing a search for it and it just brought me to the Galaxy S6 forum. Does anyone have a link to a Note 7 UI ROM for the Note 4?

I just rooted my Verizon Note 4 a few days ago. Still going through the process of setting up stock 5.1.1 the way I want it so I can make a backup of it before I mess around with ROMs and Kernels. Just FYI, you need to basically do the process twice. Once you've unlocked to 5.1.1, find the safe upgrade to MM thread. You will need to unlock again. If you dont, then MM ROMS won't function correctly. I'm on mobile right now, but look in the same forum as the other ROMS, I believe.

Hi guys, for those running TW based roms - what options do I have for themes? I have issues with my vision and can't tolerate white backgrounds. I use CM based roms primarily to get white text on solid black themes.
For apps I know I can use TBO
in the past I've installed Layers Manager and only applied themes to apps which worked ok
I've tried one or two TW based LP roms on my SM-910F but flashable themes don't seem to work and I haven't seen how well the ported Note 5/6/7 roms work with Samsung's theme store and I doubt they apply their themes to other apps like Layers can?
At the moment I have a pretty solid setup with CM12.1 and themes and it's eye friendly but I'm hoping if someone here might have a TW based rom that's fully or almost fully white on black
Stock VZW/Samsung Marshmallow rom. I needed 100% stability, no faffing about to get it running and configured, for GearVR.
Jasmine was the closest thing to what I needed, but too much fiddling - even J6.0/Android5.1.1 was too much work to deal with.

cm13 is all I've used since I rooted, and I'm very happy with it. I don't get why someone would prefer touchwiz unless they reallllyyy need full s-pen functionality. am I missing something?

I've been using Android since 1.6 Donut on an HTC Magic. I got a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant on release day and fell in love with Touchwiz instantly. I tried a couple of different devices since (HTC myTouch 4G Slide, LG Optimus G Pro) but I always came back to Samsung. My most recent non-Sammy was the Droid Turbo 2 - I loved the hardware, but I hated the software overall. I am not a fan of Google's version of Android. I pick Samsung phones because of the combination of hardware and software. TW/Nature/Grace does so many things right for me. Google Android doesn't. Everybody has different preferences. Touchwiz just works for me.
