So a while back, something happened to my M8. I don't know what, but all of a sudden, it started acting weird.
Apps were constantly refreshing (so while typing in google search, it'd refresh, lower the keyboard and bring me back to the homescreen), the phone suddenly ignored rotation lock settings (and the launcher could go horizontal) and the call audio didn't work unless you put it on speaker.
After studying the logcats for a while, I realized the phone was constantly going into dock mode, causing the problems. Dock blocking apps did not work, neither did flashing a custom kernel with the magnetic sensor disabled.
I also removed all car/dock related stuff from my rom, tried flashing different firmware and a GPE conversion.
I've come to the conclusion this is a hardware problem, like the usb shorting somewhere.
Is there any way to modify the software on my phone to remove the docking stuff completely?
same here
Hi there.
I have the same problem. Any luck with the issue?
The only thing i found is that when i plug and unplug my original usb cable a couple
of times and the docking stops. I cleaned the usb slot and
fingers crossed, now I'm waiting to see the outcum.
found the cure for me
Returned to stock rom, (i had an original backup) unrooted, stock recovery.
Updatet via OTA and voala.

Even after uninstalling it with titanium backup, root explorer and native android in menu it keeps popping up in notification bar with these ill-effects:
It closes out any apps or programs I was using!
It automatically puts me on speaker when I make or receive calls
Screen orientation cannot be disabled
Screen lock cannot be disabled
Volume is lowered when playing music
stays at the same volume and cannot be adjusted.
Some suggestions were to disable automatic startup and bluetooth in Car Home's menus when it pops up, I did not see such option. Now the menu does not pop up anymore, only the steering wheel icon pops up in notification bar to let me know its here to make my day a living hell again. Everyday, Every Hour, Every minute. I've done full wipe, cache, dalvik, and reinstall of cm6 6.1.2 and it just wont GO AWAY! Please HELP!
Posting in general forum because I'm not getting any help in Q/A!
You know what, my phone started exactly the same thing yesterday lunchtime and it's bloody annoying.
One thing that bugs me is that the headphone volume is now jammed at "very loud" with no way to adjust it.
Likely cause: pins 4 & 5 of the USB port shorted out. I would recommend carefully cleaning the USB port on the phone to see if that helps (it didn't for me).
Unless anyone has a magic solution, mine is going back to stock today and then back to HTC for repair.
Had the exact same issue a while back so I just took it to Sprint and got a new one.
perhaps its my google account cuz i notice after fresh install and before i sync my market there car home is no where to be found. so im thinking theres probably an issue with my google account and apps. even thiugh it does not have car home as one of ny apps ive installed.
issue temporarily fixed by going to both car apps in applications and force stop/clearing data but then it came back again, defiantly sometime to do with usb port
My phone started having the same problem, it would come up for no reason at all. Just now I plugged it into my car charger and it magically stopped. I was wondering if the usb cable I got from HTC could be bad.
Its a provlem with your micro usb. I had the same problem on multiple
roms. Getting a new usb cable cleared it up for me.

I had the same problem, and it turned out that it was a 3rd party charger that I bought on ebay that caused it. I bought a charger from Sprint, and it cleared up for me.
Don't mean to dig up an old thread, but figured would be better than starting a new one.
My Evo just started doing similar things just two days ago. Pretty sure mine was a moisture issue- put it in my pocket while swim suit was still wet, I've read similar reports on other forums.
My issue is Car Home will launch whenever it wants (seems to be purely random.) It will 'dock' then 'undock' (indicated by the chime it plays) two or three times in a row before it finally just runs in the background. If you are in an application while this happens it will either crash the program, or refresh everything, losing what ever state you were on.
Any got a software fix for this yet? I've tried uninstalling it, freezing it, reinstalling it, deleting the apk with root explorer... nothing. Not only is it god awful annoying it's killing my battery life. From what I am understanding this issue is rooted in hardware problems, but there has to be a way of stopping a program from auto loading.
I even went as far as to delete EVERY file that root explorer found the words 'car' and 'home' in with it's search function. Tried installing apps that supposedly blocked it from auto loading like NoDock, did nothing.
If all else fails I guess i could do a full wipe and reload CM7, but I've read reports that that doesn't even fix it. Is there anyway to confirm it's a USB problem, and not a short in the magnetic sensor? I attempted to take a cat log, think it was throwing a Java error, need to read up on how to post said log.
If there is a more complete thread or resolution page, please link it, I have no issues reading up on it myself if only I can find it.
Thanks for any input!
This problem is caused by the liquid damage... Everytime I have one come in with this issue.. I have signs of liquid damage to the board, especially around the charging port...
I hear ya, but there has to be a way of removing carhome completely. My phone operates fantastic for 80% of the day, so it's not like it's a catastrophic error or anything.
Same thing happening here on my Evo with Cyanogenmod 7.1RC1. Really odd behavior. I just uninstalled car home using Titanium and I'm waiting to see if that fixes it.
I downloaded nodock (trial) and pretty much solved the issue. I still have problems on start up but once I am able to enable the app. I might just end up buying the app because of no other choice.
I fixed this issue by getting a new phone. Its a hardware issue, something something usb port dying glitching, thinks its docking with car dock
I would totally do the same thing if I wasn't living in fear of the new ota

This.
It's a hardware issue, not software. The tech at my local Sprint store said they see this a lot with people that use car chargers, especially during the winter. The end of the cable falls on the floor and gets dirt, salt, and other crap in it then gets picked up and plugged into the phone and screws up the USB port. Sometimes it just needs to be cleaned, but sometimes it actually gets damaged.

I cleaned my charging port with rubbing alcohol and it seems to be fixed.

has anyone found a solution to this issue, im currently experiencing it on my inspire.... from what i have read its a hardware issue, but isn't there anyway to make a patch of something that can block car home from launching?? it randomly starts up on my phone and causes my speaker phone to always be on when receiving calls or making one, until i manually turn it off but still its pretty annoying... help!! lol
water damage or generic charger
I had this problem I was using a cheap stand charger when I switched back to the stock charger it solved the problem after a few days.... but that evo broke and my next evo had it again plus HDMI wasn't working. Took it in and it had all kinds of corrosion from water damage causing the problem. So take it in or take it apart and clean it hope that helps
man, i'm going INSANE with this phone. car mode keeps turning itself on no matter what i do i can't get rid of it. there isn't even an app installed that i can uninstall. it just keeps turning on randomly in the notification bar and if i'm doing anything on my phone it messes things up. any ideas how to get rid of this?

what ROM you running that you can't uninstall it through the standard settings?
you should be able to uninstall with Titanium. at least as a quick fix, but this may be indicative of another issue?
i had the same problem

I had the same problem before. In settings you can disable car mode from launching but every time you use headphones the volume will be stuck because it thinks its in car mode. I think the problem came from a cheap charger that I was using it may have bent or affected the connections some way that made the phone think it was in a car dock. Even when it wasn't plugged into anything. I just bought a better charger and a few weeks later the problem just stopped. I have no idea. hope that helps

yeah i have no idea i'm completely stumped. i've been using the same MIUI rom without upgrading for over a month now. all of a sudden today it starts and nothing in my system has changed. the thing is i have no car mode app in titanium nor is there an installed app to change settings.

here is the thread i ran on this problem... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12027541#post12027541 turning on bluetooth seemed to work for me for most things. Even though the app doesnt launch it still thinks its in a dock so the problem will continue. My best advice is buy a quality charger. I got a dock charger so it charges upright and that seemed to fix everything. But Im not 100% sure. My other Ideas was that I keep my phone in my pocket at work. Im in construction so I thought sweat may have caused a moisture problem in the phone... gross but just a thought haha
Could also be a bad usb port, causing the phone to think it's docked.
ok i'm still struggling with this. maybe the usb port is going bad i have no idea. that being said is there any possible way to remove car mode all together? its not listed as a separate app in titanium but i imagine there must be a way to remove it.
I had the exact same issue and it turned out to be a bad usb port since it happens to be one of the other issues with certain hw versions.. like b spot on nova screens n excessive light leakage. I would recomend flashing a stock rom n taking it to a sprint repair center for an exchange unless you know a particular that is lenient on rooted phones. Good luck.

just to add to this, try flashing a different rom just for kicks, to see if anything changes.
edit: sorry, I guess this was a couple weeks old
Here's a stab in the wind (unless it only happens when you plug it in). The car mode application also responds to magnetic fields. Are there any magnets near where you usually have this problem? (Wallets and purses often have magnets in them)
Hi guys
I got an HTC M8s less than 2 months now and it has so many issues it's driving me insane at this stage....
It's on stock ROM unrooted with all the latest updates.
First issue that came up was not recognising the headphones after i plugged them in, that eventually went away after lots of searching and fiddling with settings etc.
Then it started going into Car mode while it was resting on the table, no input on my end no triggers set for it, hell i don't even own a car to use this function....
I disabled HTC car and that stopped.
The included micro usb cable somehow went bad, tried it on other devices, it will not charge....
Now i'm having some weird charging behaviour, it drops out of charging and resumes or sometimes it just stops charging (that doesn't happen when the phone is charging while being switched off, so i'm guessing it's not a hardware issue)
Another massive problem is that all incoming/outgoing calls go to the speaker which almost burst my ear drum first time that happened.
I have looked in every single forum out there and have tried all possible solutions, ranging from disabling google Chrome to trying every available speaker management/toggle related program on the play store but nothing seems to be working.
Some times if i plug in the headphones, make a call and then unplug them, then it works as it should for a little while. But later on it reverts to the previous mentioned behaviour.
One thing i have noticed, before it routes calls to the speaker, the screen will light up, no notifications come up and then all calls go to the speaker.
I used Wakelock to try and find out which program triggers the screen wake in order to remove it and maybe solve this issue but nothing came up.
Any input would be greatly appreciated as i am at the end of my rope with this device....
I still have my HTC DHD A9191 and i never had any issues with that phone, i'm very dissappointed with HTC :/
Thanks in advance
Yanni
Less then 2 months......return it ! Not even sure what you want to achieve here besides messing up warranty ?
I am using Spign slim armor case on m8s and after using it my power button isn't working.
and I have a Motion Launch problem when phone is on my pocket it opens camera, calls someone because of the sensor.Any fix about that?

ok man
look i have htc one m8 + one m7+one max
the one m7 had the same problem of u
i will give to you one solution for try
i try it on the one m7 and its work
but on one max not work
on m8 not test yet
try this:
1. Turn phone OFF
2. Let charge for AT LEAST 10mins even if it doesn't look like it's charging.
3. Press and hold POWER + VOL UP + VOL DOWN for AT LEAST 2mins. Anything less will not reset the charge mode.
4. After 2mins release the buttons and the phone should boot as normal
if it not charge at the first time then try it again andd u will be OK
Hi Hazem
Thanks for the input, i'll give this a go when i get back home and let you know if it works out.
Should i try this when the phone is at 4-5% ? And then let it charge all the way ?
I'm experiencing these same issues as well after rooting my M8. Hopefully someone here knows what the issue is.
Well for me all issues remain unresolved.
My guess so far for the culprit seems to be the magnetic sensor, either badly programmed or a factory defect.

u must charge ur phone
turn off the phone
let him charge to full about 3 hours
and try the method
it will work
i test it on 2 one m7 phones
let me know if that work
thx
Sorry Hazeem I understand that English isn't your first language, and you are trying to help but you are not making much sence....
You are basically telling me to charge my phone, then switch it off and charge it again even though it's already charged for another 3 hours....
Ok an update !
HTC Released a service pack along with an update for the car application, after installing these and a couple of reboots the charging problems stopped and the phone doesn't seem to be waking up without any reason, as it did before.
The calls getting routed to the speaker still remain but thanks to an app called Auto Speaker, I've managed to work around this issue. Before the updates this application had no effect, but now it works as it should by turning off the speaker when the proximity sensor is blocked.
I hope I am not celebrating too soon on this and I'll keep this post updated if anything else, related to these issues, happens.
Update 2
So far so good and with another unexpected benefit, I removed my phone from the charger Saturday morning around 11 and as of now Monday 7:30 it's at 27% !
I have been on on the developers preview for a month now and noticed that since last week I have a persistent notification telling me that the usb is plugged in (see the MM screenshot attached) and my phone isn't going to sleep anymore since then. Since I'm running a developers preview, I didn't worry about it too much.
So this weekend I tried a full reset of the preview, using the factory images, however this didn't fix it.
I therefore flashed back to MM, again using the factory images, but still have the exact problem.
I then flashed Chroma, because it's the most minimal system I know and it also gave me root to check for wakelocks.
I then found out that a kernel wakelock is keeping my phone awake, namely: f9200000.ssusb
I then tried if franco kernel would possibly be of any help, but this still gives me the same wakelock.
I have found some info on f9200000.usb online, but none of them gave a solution.
One of the suggestion somewhere was to relock the bootloader, but as suspected this didn't make any difference.
I already looked at the usb-c port of my phone, but can't see anything strange in there that would trigger the phone in thinking it is connected.
At the moment I don't know what extra I can try, maybe some of you have an idea to fix it?
EDIT: Ofcourse right after psoting I find something useful. The wakelock is triggered by connecting it to my computer. However if I reboot after connecting it to my computer the phone isn't awake anymore and the notification dissappears. Maybe the cable is wrong, will order a new one and update if things changes
Hello
Did you every find the culprit? I have this issue on my OnePlus 2 running OxygenOS 3.0.2.
My phone doesn't think its charging, but the f9200000.usb wake lock is at the top of the list sucking all of my battery.
Thanks
I might have fixed it, I decided to remove a lot of the left over files and folders on the internal memory.
I removed the Android folder(dangerous i know, but i was going to wipe and flash again) and any folders for removed apps. This looks to have fixed the problem
I had this issue briefly as well after applying the June security update. I'm not sure if this is what fixed it, but I went into developer options and toggled the USB debugging off and back on as well as changed the usb configuration from mtp to charging and then back again. I haven't seen that wakelock since.
Like in title - it started happening few days ago, no pattern whatsoever - sometimes the notification opens again as soon as I close it, sometimes it doesn't happen for hours.
Thought it might be a rom issue since it was also doing some other things, so restored my JW 5.4 backup and the problem still exists. It also happens on stock, unmodified backup. I'm 90% sure it's a problem with usb port. Cleaned it very thoroughly using a:
-toothpick
-toothpick with a piece of tape on it
-toothbrush
-blowing air
I am yet to try using a vacuum and pouring some isopropyl alcohol inside the port, but I'm not sure if it will help as none of those things above did the trick. Even thought that it might be a virus, but I didn't install anything over the past days, malwarebytes found nothing and there's just no way it would survive a full wipe and an old backup restore.
I already did some research about this issue and for most people either cleaning the usb port or disabling "car" app helped. Cleaning didn't help as stated above and I have no "car" app and I don't see anything related to it. Also tried "Dock No-Op" app and it didn't help.
The usb port might be slowly dying and I'm ok with that, the device is pretty old now, but the random notification and screen turning on is slowly getting on my nerves. Any ideas how to stop this?
