[Q] Galaxy Tab S with non-functional screen - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there, everybody!
I am Geo, new here, nice to meet you all!
I have come to ask for some advice regarding my Samsung Galaxy Tab S T805 tablet. I have broken its screen, more exactly, the substrates inside it, not the actual glass that covers it and the screen doesn't work at all. I am in need of some advice to recover my data before sending it to service. I've firstly thought of using ADB, but unfortunately it doesn't have USB debugging activated. Moreover, there are 2 users on it, the second one (which happens to be secondary, not the main one), which is currently activated, is protected by a password and I need to bypass that security method in order to reach my data.
Is there any way of backing up my files before sending it for repair? Since I can't access them because of the security pattern.
Thank you in advance!
Peace

[Q] screen cracked - recover data?

Hi guys:
This is my first time posting here and I am not very proficient with rooting and all that technical stuff.
I have a galaxy nexus, and unfortunately, last night, I was walking down the stairs, it slipped out of my hand, i went to grab it but instead slammed it onto the ground. The screen is cracked and I couldn't use it - I ended up getting a new phone.
I want to retrieve all the data on it, but so far to no avail. When I used to connect my phone, I always had to select from the drop down menu "connect as media device" or something before I can access the Galaxy Nexus directory in my computer. As of right now, I can get my phone to connect and show the Galaxy Nexus directory, but there is nothing that I can do to access the directory.
The phone will not respond to the touch screen (at least I don't think so) but yes, it is working because last night all I heard was the plethora of whatsapp messages that my friends were sending...and needless to say I was unable to reply to any of them.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

HTC One X - screen broke, access via MHL.

Hi guys!
This is definitely something weird and I can all but guarantee you havn't come across something like this before!!
Ok so, my friend broke his HTC One X, cracked the screen, but it still works. - he just wants the data off it.
Now, i have an MHL cable, plugged that in, rebooted the phone and went from there...the only issue is it boots in landscape. so when we pull the ring to unlock the device, because of poor software in the phone it just FILLS the whole screen with an "emergency call" massive button, but the emergency call text is skewered to the left hand side of the phone. Thus, we cannot enter his username and password into the input fields to give him his access back to his phone!!
Although funnily enough, the phone mysteriously loaded up once in portrait (so we could imagine the keyboard on the screen), but after 100 of attempts its not giving it us again, which means we cant enter his gmail user and pass in again!
Infact, when it did load up in portrait, we entered his gmail address and password, pressed sign in...PATIENTLY WAITED...and said the password was incorrect! FUUUUUU. Also, data is disabled on his phone (maybe why it fired the issue with it saying password was incorrect), and now we're back to square one, trying to get the phone to load up in portrait.
I recall, back when i had my Galaxy S2, that i once flashed a kernel to the device and it would mysteriously remove the password...the only issue we have with this is that the HTC One X, (if it does boot to recovery), doesn't display through MHL, so we can't flash anything to the phone anyway!! basically TOTAL lockout!
So guys...any assistance at all, because he's deeply upset the fact he's going to lose all of his files!!

If you're asking for a method to bypass security, and access an accounts information on a device, I am definitely NOT happy divulging any means to do so.
No-one should ever ask for, nor should anyone ever provide, the means of bypassing any security, logging into any accounts, or accessing device data.
No offence, but you could be anybody and this device could have been acquired by any means.

Im asking for a method to force the screen to display in portrait!
After doing a bit of research ive noticed a lot of people would come to this conclusion, any assistance at all in WHY the username and password for my friends gmail account allows us to sign in via google, but NOT on the ONE x, even though its the only email address in use on the phone!
is there any way at all in putting the phone into a recovery mode of sorts, maybe via the emergency dial pad?
Understandably there is a lot of confusion/anger towards this subject, but when it comes to 2 people trying to get into a device that is their own...any reasonable suggestion is welcome!!
You could always unlock the bootloader and use a custom recovery then mount the phones as mass storage there.
However this would void is warranty then again it depends how he broke the screen.
It maybe booting portrait as it thinks it's in a dock you tried without the cable?

Hey!!
Thanks for the idea but we can't tell if its booted in recovery even with the necessary key combo to get it into that mode...we're running out of ideas...im really annoyed that the user and pass for his gmail didnt actually let him in the phone...what other email address would google keep as a backup to confirm he is the owner of the phone?!
Also, the screen is completely destroyed, the digitizer however works lovely!
Alas, any more ideas? x

if you're connected to a network it should work fine with a gmail/pass however if you can't actually see how do you know what you're typing or even if you are typing?

Well I tried several display options but upon opening my Exs phone which she decided to stiff me on a 2 year contract and run over the phone with a car. The main board was broken and the digitizer and screen were broken... I had access to a working HTC one X so I took the motherboard, battery assembly reconnected into the working shell with the functional main board and voila! All info and in my case lies revealed... There is also a rainbow table available with an app on Git Hub that will circumvent any password on the phone using a Dual Mini Usb go cable I believe, it is demonstrated on the Hak5 show... Hope this helps!

[Q] Transferring Data From a broken Note 2 to a replacement Note 2

Hi,
I am using an unrooted Tmobile Note 2. .Recently I dropped the phone and the screen stopped working. The screen is totally blank and I cannot use touchscreen or operate the phone.
The phone still boots and I am able to connect the phone to my laptop and view the files.
I have the phone covered under insurance. My cheapest option is to get a replacement Note 2 .
My question is : what is the best way to back-up my data from the broken phone and restoring it to the replacement Note 2 ?
Can I just use Samsung's Kies ?
My main concern is application data. For example I use Papyrus extensively but saving papyrus data seems to need root access.
Thanks in advance.

Since you are unrooted.. The best option would be to COPY EVERYTHING from the internal SD card on to your laptop/desktop..!
Once u have another one Just try transferring the folders as it is...!!
i dont see any other option..!
for contacts i guess u were already synced with gmail..!!

Retrieve data from LG Quick Memo for a non LG device?

Hey all,
Let me start by saying that after searching a bit, I've come to the conclusion that there is no way to run the LG Quick memo app on non LG devices.
Here's the story:
The LCD-Digitizer on my G3 (D580) suddenly died. When the screen displayed, but was just unresponsive to touch, I was able to work around it by operating the phone via USB OTG cable and mouse. But suddenly, it stopped even displaying anything, which is frustrating because I took excellent care of it (no water damage/shock damage, always had it in a rugged case with screen protector). Anyway. I've switched over to a Huawei Honor 8, IMHO the most affordable flagship.
What I miss most from my G3 are the notes that I know I synced to an email address in the LG note app. Any ideas on how I can view those again without access to my G3? I can't afford to repair the screen because the part is so expensive!
Am I the only one with this issue? I'd appreciate any suggestions!
Thanks!
Even though I never got a response, I figured out my own workaround and I'm so relieved that I'll pay it forward.
The solution that worked for me:
If you had the foresight to sync your memos before you lost screen functionality, then getting them back is as simple as walking into a T-Mobile/AT&T/Verizon store and using an LG device on display (or borrowing a friend's). I didn't really think about it, my syncing was more like dumb luck than foresight to be honest, but ANYWAY
Sign into the Quick Memo Plus app on the LG device that you have access to and use your backup/retrieval method of choice. I can confirm that LG G3, G4, G5, and K10 have Quick Memo Plus but there may be other LG devices that will do the job. The only reason that this is an issue is because LG Quick Memo Plus is an app that will only work on some LG devices. It's not available in the Play Store and even if you have the apk, it will not install on non-LG devices. (Someone, please correct me if I'm wrong, it has something to do with odexes and the LG framework)
Once I was able to view my memos, I went through them one-by-one and copied the most irreplaceable ones to an email draft. Took a few minutes but it was worth it. Be sure to sign out of the display phone/your friend's phone before you leave and be sure that the notes are not viewable even after you sign out. I know that even after I signed out of Google, the memos were still viewable on the display phone, so I had to select them all and delete them from that phone.
I hope that this helps if anyone finds themselves in a similar situation.
Sent from my FRD-L04 using XDA Free mobile app
Instead of hand-copying memos to an email, you can export the entire note collection and email that. It exports to a .lqm file, which is only really openable with QuickMemo+, but it's also in plaintext, so you can open it with a text editor and see your notes. This is a good idea only if you have several dozens of notes you want to recover just need to store the text.
LG QuickMemo+ issue with using other devices
I've been scouring the internet for something that'll let me log into QuickMemo+ online or another app. I came across this & I'm glad I didn't have to spend countless hours looking for a solution! Thank you so much! ??
Why just dont use google keep... That problems is enougs reason not to use anything specific to LG. Like lg backup etc...
Can anyone here pls provide instructions for how to send my entire notes?
I have an LG G7 & I'd like to keep my QuickMemo+ notes for the future in either my gmail or a google type app in case my phone dies. I read the instructions provided by someone in this thread but I am not a techie so they were missing a few "steps for morons" lol that I need. Can anyone dumb it down and write it out more fully? Thank you so much!
Here are some basic instructions

So what you can simply do is extract the .lqm by 7zip or winrar or any app of the sorts you will get a couple of folders which are images, drawings, videos and audios. But what interests us is the memoinfo.jlqm which you can rename the file and changes the extension into a .txt so it'd become memoinfo.txt which can be opened with almost any text viewing app. Now there will be a lot of "garbage" but within the "garbage" the text that was in the memo will be there. And that's it if you want the text but I don't know whether or not the photos or audio files are saved normally or in a proprietary format. Hope this helped.

It is out there on how to do it, search for it, because we cannot know if this is indeed a truthful and/or legal request we can not answer. Sorry!
"it's out there" - yeah, I figured that much. I'm not about to upload a death certificate on a public board, you'll have to forgive me. Any actually helpful pointers to get this done? Just trying to help the family. Thanks.
Android All_In_One_Tool maybe
Is Jack Bauer involved?
I wish! He'd have the thing enter it's own code just by giving it an angry stare
So I found the tool mentioned above, not quite sure which function I'd use to take a crack at it. Best option would be a giant "remove pin" button, highlighted in yellow for me, lol... The 9 Pro isn't explicitly stated as supported either, hope that's not an issue in this case. Am I going to Recovery/Flasher and Device Rooter or Decrypt internal storage?
Any new Oneplus phone that has a PIN also has FBEv2. Everything that matters on the phone is encrypted at rest.* Even if you bypass lock screen, you need the PIN to open any data in the phone. If the bootloader is unlocked, you can try backing up data with a custom recovery like TWRP or orangefox, but most if not all files stored in internal storage is encrypted.
Basically, if the PIN is lost, bypass the lock screen is no use and you can wipe the data now. See if the PIN is written down somewhere
Mmm was the phone linked to Google? It could be what you're after has been uploaded to Google drive ( photos etc)
its worth a shot
