Hi guys, please help!
HTC Desire Z. Completely stock and unrooted etc. The screen stopped responding a few days ago, so I figure its a broken digitaliser or the connecting thingie between the two panels is broken.
So now I can't get past my screen lock...
When I connect it to my computer, my phone is set to 'Charge only', so my computer doesn't react at all to the phone being plugged in (it does charge though).
I've spent the last few hours reading through various methods online and they've all been bunk. I have managed to install SDK/ADB, but I can't figure out how to use it without turning on USB debugging (or if that would even help).
Anyone have any ideas? I really really need to get some messages/photos off my phone.
I don't think anyone here is allowed to tell you how to use adb to get past a lock screen, I've seen these questions before and mods tend to lock the thread.
But going with you are an honest person what do you need off of your phone that isn't synced to the cloud or on SD card?

Thanks for replying! I tried using adb but couldn't figure a way without having USB debugging enabled (which it isn't).
Basically I just came back from a holiday with a phone which is when it broke- and I made some really great friends who I asked to send me a text with their name/email (as my phone wasn't working), and so yeah I just need to read these few texts/find them on facebook! Pretty minor I know.
unfortunately i think it is against the rules to give you the information on how to, but i will say much of this is available on the internet though you have to dig rather deep (simple search wont pick it up)
may i suggest getting the digitizer replaced, if you do it yourself it will be under 20$ and about an hour of your time. or find a local repair shop to do it for 50 or less im sure.
and for future reference keeping debugging on is a good idea as well as rooting the phone, you will find this time of thing much easier. also using apps like sms backup+ can sync all text, call log etc direct to gmail account so you could loose your phone and still receive them. sorry i cant help much further than this
Hi guys!
This is definitely something weird and I can all but guarantee you havn't come across something like this before!!
Ok so, my friend broke his HTC One X, cracked the screen, but it still works. - he just wants the data off it.
Now, i have an MHL cable, plugged that in, rebooted the phone and went from there...the only issue is it boots in landscape. so when we pull the ring to unlock the device, because of poor software in the phone it just FILLS the whole screen with an "emergency call" massive button, but the emergency call text is skewered to the left hand side of the phone. Thus, we cannot enter his username and password into the input fields to give him his access back to his phone!!
Although funnily enough, the phone mysteriously loaded up once in portrait (so we could imagine the keyboard on the screen), but after 100 of attempts its not giving it us again, which means we cant enter his gmail user and pass in again!
Infact, when it did load up in portrait, we entered his gmail address and password, pressed sign in...PATIENTLY WAITED...and said the password was incorrect! FUUUUUU. Also, data is disabled on his phone (maybe why it fired the issue with it saying password was incorrect), and now we're back to square one, trying to get the phone to load up in portrait.
I recall, back when i had my Galaxy S2, that i once flashed a kernel to the device and it would mysteriously remove the password...the only issue we have with this is that the HTC One X, (if it does boot to recovery), doesn't display through MHL, so we can't flash anything to the phone anyway!! basically TOTAL lockout!
So guys...any assistance at all, because he's deeply upset the fact he's going to lose all of his files!!

If you're asking for a method to bypass security, and access an accounts information on a device, I am definitely NOT happy divulging any means to do so.
No-one should ever ask for, nor should anyone ever provide, the means of bypassing any security, logging into any accounts, or accessing device data.
No offence, but you could be anybody and this device could have been acquired by any means.

Im asking for a method to force the screen to display in portrait!
After doing a bit of research ive noticed a lot of people would come to this conclusion, any assistance at all in WHY the username and password for my friends gmail account allows us to sign in via google, but NOT on the ONE x, even though its the only email address in use on the phone!
is there any way at all in putting the phone into a recovery mode of sorts, maybe via the emergency dial pad?
Understandably there is a lot of confusion/anger towards this subject, but when it comes to 2 people trying to get into a device that is their own...any reasonable suggestion is welcome!!
You could always unlock the bootloader and use a custom recovery then mount the phones as mass storage there.
However this would void is warranty then again it depends how he broke the screen.
It maybe booting portrait as it thinks it's in a dock you tried without the cable?

Hey!!
Thanks for the idea but we can't tell if its booted in recovery even with the necessary key combo to get it into that mode...we're running out of ideas...im really annoyed that the user and pass for his gmail didnt actually let him in the phone...what other email address would google keep as a backup to confirm he is the owner of the phone?!
Also, the screen is completely destroyed, the digitizer however works lovely!
Alas, any more ideas? x

if you're connected to a network it should work fine with a gmail/pass however if you can't actually see how do you know what you're typing or even if you are typing?

Well I tried several display options but upon opening my Exs phone which she decided to stiff me on a 2 year contract and run over the phone with a car. The main board was broken and the digitizer and screen were broken... I had access to a working HTC one X so I took the motherboard, battery assembly reconnected into the working shell with the functional main board and voila! All info and in my case lies revealed... There is also a rainbow table available with an app on Git Hub that will circumvent any password on the phone using a Dual Mini Usb go cable I believe, it is demonstrated on the Hak5 show... Hope this helps!
Hi
I posted this message a while back but I couldn't understand how to try what was suggested, or maybe they weren't the solution to the problem. I further asked the advisors but didn't get any replies, so I thought I would post again in a hopefully more relevant area of this site. This is a genuine request and would appreciate the help.
I have a broken Galaxy 3 phone where the screen suddenly stopped functioning with a total blackout so I can't use the phone at all. There is no problem getting the phone fixed within a couple of days but the problem is I want to save all my messages, contacts and other data, to my pc, especially one conversation text message thread that has gone on for about a year. I want the information to be able to be viewed independently on my computer like I read emails etc. and then I can store it on a portable hard drive by copy and paste. Samsung kies doesn't seem to allow for this. I can back up the phone apparently but the info can only be read by another similar phone so it is restricting how you see your own information. I want the information on my computer without the need of another similar phone because what if I decide to buy a totally different phone that has software that's not compatible. The shop representing Samsung who will fix the phone said that everything gets wiped and they won't even have Kies on their computers because they think its unstable software. Ideally it would be great if there was some kind of software for my computer that enabled it to read all the info on the phone as if the phone was a flash drive connected by USB and then I could simply copy and paste across from phone to computer. The phone is recognised by the computer through the USB but obviously it can't read inside the folders on the phone which just show as empty. Anybody know of anything to get the results I want? Thanks.
I am copying this post from reddit for a friend. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Need voicemails from Samsung Galaxy Note 2
u/ajwar1154 27d, 22h
I have an old Samsung Note 2. It started having issues recently. It kept consistently saying “UID's Inconsistent Error (I'm Feeling Lucky)” (or something similar) whenever I turned the phone on. I initially ignored the issue, but on Sunday, the phone stopped powering on. The “Samsung Galaxy Note 2” screen would pop up normally, but that is all. I started researching the issue and found the power+volume+home sequence solution. However, instead of choosing power+volume down+home, I pressed volume up. This caused a robot to come up saying downloading. I removed the battery after about 5 minutes of nothing happening. The next time I tried the sequence of power+volume up+home, the phone did nothing. I tried to just power up. That wouldn’t work either. It is just a black screen. I have switched out the battery to see if that would make a difference.
Now here is the reason that I really care… my mom died on April 1, 2016. When the UID Error started, I spent Friday and Saturday evening making sure that I took all of the pictures off of the phone. I think I got most or all of them off – including her funeral and burial. Now here is the crappy part – I had about 25 voicemails from her on the phone. I want to be able to hear her voice again. Unfortunately, I was so focused on the pictures and videos I had not taken the time to copy the voicemails to my computer. So, whatever solution I can find, I cannot have the voicemails getting erased. I have tried to call the Sprint voicemail number and they’re not there.
Can anyone please help me?
Thank you.
The UID is probably becoming more broken the longer you ignore it. There is a better solution but since you already can't access the phone, to fix your problem, you need to use ODIN, which is a recovery tool. It will fix your phone but remove all those data, including the voicemail. Sorry man...
Search the internet for "How to flash Note 2 stock ROM odin" and follow the directions the resulting sites will give you.
I also have a reddit, but I can't post it there as it might be lost in the sea of comments... u/nik1082
I dont think you will lose any data if you flash via odin if you are flashing the same version you are on

Would the voicemails have been saved on the carrier's voicemail system? How were the voicemail messages transferred to the phone?
Hello, I really hope somone can help with this problem - I know the obvious answer is to get the screen repaired but I cant afford it. I've tried looking at other posts as well but am not getting anywhere.
Last year the screen went on my OP3 after being dropped and the screen is now blank with quite a few cracks. The phone still works - all the buttons work and I think I've even managed to enter the PIN. I now need to retrieve a file from the phone.
The phone hasn't been rooted or modded in any way (it's as it came from the factory). When I plug it into my PC i can see the drivers folder and the 5 files in there, but nothing else.
I was hoping I could access the phone remotely but OTG was not enabled, though I did in the past enable developer options. I believe hope is not lost, as the phone can be put into fastboot (or something like that - I'm not terribly techy but can work things out) but without being able to see the screen..... I've looked ADB devices and there's nothing after "list of devices attached".
Is there any way of being able to do something? I've looked for screenshots to see if I can operate the phone blind, but can't find anything. I am patient and will keep trying until i get it or save the money for a repair, but I really need the file asap. The phone itself isn't important to me (I've replaced it since) - only the data on it.
Very grateful for any help anyone can offer.
edit: Wifi enabled solutions are not an option sadly as I've changed my ISP since so can't amend the settings on the phone (unless I get extremely lucky)
You're screwed, just buy another screen.
It will be easier to just lend a money.

Unless you enable 'USB Debugging' in Developer Options and install the required drivers, your phone will not be 'seen' by your PC. Without your phone being 'seen' by your PC, nothing can be done.
