Backup data in clockwork recovery? - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When using the backup data feature in clockwork recovery is it possible to restore these backups on different fire tv's. So i could duplicate my setup on multiple ftvs without having to sideload all the apk's etc. again.

One or two people have tried, and last I remember it was a failure. I was going to try to figure out a way to force it to pop up the registration screen, which would avoid the issues of restoring between devices. You could backup the apps with titanium backup though.

[Q] how do I restore backups?

Okay so i was just on randonrom osprey earlier tdy so i decided to use mybackup root to make a backup of all my apps and games. when i chose the backups i just selected them in data form not apk. Now i upgraded to randomrom hawk and when i restore my data it shows everything restoring but in the log file it shows each app with 'data not restored' after it. i even rebooted but still nothing. Anyway to resolve this?

you had to restore apps AND data
If you followed the install procedure for the ROM then you Odin'd in EG22 tar thus deleting all your third party apps that Mybackup backs up. So like just mentioned in the above post, restore apps AND data.

TWRP Backup and Restore

I have Titanium backup, but noticed that TWRP also provides a backup and restore. I think I've restored all of my apps by restoring the "data" after a ROM install (at least that's what it appears to have happened). Can anyone verify or is there another partition/folder that I should backup as well for app restoration.
Separate question - I know many people favor Titanium backup - but has anyone started using TWRP for their backup/restores?
using TWRP to restore data is the same as restoring data with CWM
TiBu lets you pick what you want to restore, which is why its preferred. also, if i remember correctly, restoring data with twrp/cwm restores system data, which is bad.
I think you are confusing an app that has backup functions (TiBu) with a recovery, which does Nandroid backups (TWRP).
I'm not confusing them. TWRP backs up data, system, cache...etc. Titanium backs up specific apps. I understand that difference, but if I want to back up all my apps, I just back up my data and restore after I flash the new ROM. It's worked so far.....and I don't have to keep reinstalling Titanium every time.
EDIT: So I guess that's my question - if I want to backup my apps and settings, would I be missing anything to just restore "data"?
BTW I have been using my data backup in TWRP after flashing ROMs and it works flawlessly.....all my apps are there.....in case anyone is interested. Currently running ParanoidAndroid.

You probably shouldn't be just restoring /data when you flash a new ROM. In addition to your apps, /data also contains your system settings which may not be compatible with all ROMs. Flashing custom ROMs is not for the lazy, just use Titanium if you need to restore your apps.
Open Titanium Backup. Go to option>>Batch Actions.
Here you can backup all the apps(system, user system+user) including data on a single click.. And this process is totally safe. Just you have to install Titanium backup manually after installing new ROM. then it will restore all your apps with the data on a single click.

Does Backup/Restore through TWRP Backup/Restore your apps?

Quite simple. I don't know what Backup/Restore through TWRP actually does, if it backs up the whole phone or if it just backs up your apps, or if you can have it do either.
My Note 4 is rooted and I really hate changing ROMs just because I end up having to re-install my apps. It's a PITA.
Is there really an easier, quicker way of doing things when I switch ROMs? Can I backup/restore my apps with TWRP? If not, then what about with Titanium Backup Pro? I have that as well. I've been manually restoring my apps each time I change ROMs.
TWRP makes copies of the entirety of the selected backup partitions (Whole Phone), using Titanium backup onto your SD card would probably be the best option for backing up apps.
The correct way is you should do both. You only need to do twrp backup once to have a full image of your phone. This is very helpful if your new rom crashed. You just need to restore the twrp image and you will have your phone back exactly the same setup before the crash. Second, you also need a full backup of all your apps with Titanium Backup, this helps you to restore all the apps back to the new rom. Make a note here, if you flash a new OS version, like 5.1 lollipop to 6.0 MM, do not restore app data, instead, just restore the apps only. Apps force closed if you restore app data.

Titanium backup has a setting that allows you to make TWRP flashable zips . It allows you to do the operation as a batch as well so you could make a single zip with all the apps you want restore or you could do them individually or in specific groups. Since your rom selection is based upon system Img. This should work unless you went from a Touchwiz to Aosp base.

Titanium Backup will not restore from Nandroid backup. HTC One m9 Nougat, Rooted

I cannot restore any apps from my nandroid backup onto my phone using Titanium Backup.
It opens the Nandroid backup correctly, and i can select apps to restore
It than says "Processing" for a while, and then skips to the last app and then says "Restore completed successfully", but no apps have been restored.
I cannot find this issue anywhere
Any help is welcome
Same issue
Depends what your selecting vs what you have permissions to do. Rooted? S-off? Restoring system apps? Restoring system settings?. Some things are not allowed to be restored.
Deselect all system apps, system settings, google apps and htc apps. You might have better luck.

The simplest way I found, make a TWRP backup of your current ROM, restore your nand-backup, from there make backups of the apps you need, then restore the TWRP backup of current configuration. From there u will be able to restore needed apps.
Or submit this bug to TB team and wait for a fix.

Try to install different versions and everything will turn out ® Titanium Backup - {Mod edit: Link deleted. Oswald Boelcke}
Hi all, i never found a solution to the issue.
I assume by some huge coincidence that both of my backups (nandroid and Titanium backup) were both corrupt. I cut my losses and started fresh, and uses older backups where necessary

Question Backup/Restore pending TWRP

When's the ETA for TWRP? Ppfft, just kidding.
But seriously - how are you folks backing up your phone and restoring settings when flashing new ROMs? I've got TiBu going on, but since there's no SD card on this device, won't a factory reset wipe all my TiBu backups so I can't restore app data?
How are you folks restoring app data when flashing new ROMs right now while we (patiently and never ask for an ETA while we) wait for TWRP?

I've been using titanium as well, and I just copy the TitaniumBackup folder to/from my PC
Same, Titanium Backup and copying the folder to my Chromebook. I use OnePlus Switch for Settings, Messages, and Call's.
I use swift backup. It backs up everything just go into back up setting and make all is selected..
I used tibk for years but has not been updated in years. Some apps work and others just force close when you launch them..
Titanium and pulling the backup using ADB.
Thank you all! Very helpful responses. Much appreciated!!

Swift Backup is way superior (with root access), it'll backup/restore call logs, SMS, apps (with data if you have root). You can choose multiple online backup services, you can even choose FTP now so I just set up Filezilla Server on my computer and backup to there. Been using it since OP7P, especially for multiple 2FA apps I use, works fine.
Afaik Titanium hasn't been updated in a dog's age, while Swift Backup is updated regularly.
