First off, I love Carbon, so far the favorite of the ROMs I've tried out. Second, my post count is too low to post this in the actual carbon thread.
I've got a couple issues/bugs I'd like to report noticing.
1) the pop up notifications, like text messages, phone calls, etc. seem to run off the side of the screen when in vertical mode. when in horizontal (landscape, etc.) mode it fits okay. When it's standing up though, I'll miss text data and a button.
2) Occasionally when picking files to attach to e-mails or text messages, the file picker thing will crash and may need to be relaunched a few times. Not sure if that's an app problem or part of the ROM, but putting it out there.
3) When switching from local to roaming data, I've had to manually switch APN's from TMo LTE to the normal epc.tmobile.com APN and my roaming data will work again. When returning back to in network, I manually reset to IPv6 fast.t-mobile.com... Not sure if there's a way to automate that or not, but posting my manual fix.
Outside of these issues though, it's much nicer than stock, and my battery life has almost tripled. Keep up the good work!
For the Carbon popup issue I'd post over on the G+ community for it https://plus.google.com/109453683460749241197/posts

My wife and I both now have WM phones (mine is a Tilt 2, hers a Pure) and we don't want to spend money on text messages to each other, since each text message would count twice... once for her receiving and once for me sending. (on a pay per use plan it would be $0.40 each!).
I was looking for other options. Push email is o.k. but often times there can be a minute or more delay, and my early tests of push gmail are not producing any confidence that it would push reliably.
So then I was thinking IM. It looks like IM programs would be battery hogs, and have to stay running in the background, and could easily be accidentally closed. Also, when the phone goes to sleep it seems like they then switch you to "offline".
So am I missing something? What are my sms like, non sms options?
Also does anyone have any small programs that would set up a auto-soft reset on a repeating schedule, it would be great if I could start the morning with a fresh phone. Thanks.

Yes, any non-sms messaging app for your phone would obviously use data (3G or EDGE connection) to communicate, and would need to be left on all the time to be able to receive incoming messages and notify you in real-time...so battery drain would be in direct proportion to that.
The best solution I've ever seen for that is Palringo, a free IM-integrator app that can connect you through most of the common IM networks (yahoo, AIM, Google talk, etc), or just direct through it's own (if I remember correctly)...meaning that as long as you and she both have the palringo client installed, you don't necessarily have to use any of those services to be able to IM each other. It's also free, and I seem to recall that it can be set (but isn't by default) to stay connected even when the phone goes to sleep, but don't quote me on that part.
It would be great if one of these programs had a "listening" service that would run in the background and then notify you of the "call" similar to an email.
I have seen a few online, (my research has just begun) that indicates "push notifications". Sound interesting, the data connection would remain active all the time that does not bother me.
I seem to have lost the setting to switch the "x" button from close to minimize. That would solve the issue with accidental closing the program. It would have to be managed via the task manager.. no biggy.. and then if I can find a soft reset scheduler it would keep the open programs from overwhelming the phone.

it's the other way around. default for winmo is minimize, there is
an htc bundled app called taskman. it's in settings - task manager which is making apps close when you click X
plenty of other apps can change that too
and then if I can find a soft reset scheduler it would keep the open programs from overwhelming the phone.

i made myself app doing change on backlight settings every morning and evening, I changed it for you to do reset
give it a try tell me if it's working for you and if error will pop up let me know what's it saying, at least line number
okay, i posted a thread a few weeks ago on some issues with AOKP milestone 6 on htc wildfire.. now, after fine tuning several aspects of the phone i ran into more issues, that i do not know how to solve.....
1. an incredibly annoying lag when receiving call... first comes the ringtone, then, about 4-5 seconds later, the screen turns itself on, and only then the in-call image appears, with an option to answer/decline a call. i managed only to reduce the lag a bit by managing several profiles in SetCPU app, but the problem persists no matter what i do....
2. battery life and occasional twitching when flipping through home screens/ app drawer - this issue got solved pretty easily by removing non-essential apps from system/app using root explorer, and properly setting processor frequencies in profiles with SetCPU. The phone now is fast, snappy, and the battery has almost 3 days of autonomy with quite a lot of background processes
3. Contacts search/suggestion problem - now this one is truly annoying, and i can't seem to figure out the reason why this is happening. it didn't happen at the beginning. now here's the deal: whenever i want to send a new message, and type the name of the recipient, the phone does not recognize/suggest the name (or can't find it in the phonebook). the only way is to type in the FULL number (with + and prefixes), and only then it will recognize the recipient and show his/hers name. the other method is to search for the contact in the phonebook and then chose an option to send a sms/mms. i imported my contacts list from google, the same i did with previous roms and after resetting the phone, and never had such a problem.... the other part is opening people app, i.e. the phonebook. when scrolling through contacts, all are there, visible and accessible, but when trying to search for a specific entry (i have over 300 entries, so search option is truly a must-have), it only finds some contacts, but not all. and i do not know the solution for these problems. i tried meddling with which entries are visible, checking and unchecking all google contatcs, but the problem is still there...
does anybody have an idea? i tried googling for this one, but it seems i don't even know what keywords to use since this specific problem wasn't addressed in any of the AOKP or CM-related threads

If I'm not mistaken you're already allowed to post in the developing section? I'd suggest you better post those ROM related stuff directly in the ROM thread - most likely people using that ROM (those who probably could give some answers) will follow that thread even if they rarely visit XDA. Furthermore other users may have similar issues and could find this stuff more easy

it seems i am... thanks for the suggestion! i just posted in the thread you suggested.. . hopefully that'll do
because i'm not allowd to post in the developers forum aosp thread, I cannot post my suggestions for development there.
That is why i try to do it here, maybe someone can post them in de developers thread?
I installed aosp yesterday and it looks great so far. Despite some minor incidents it is working very well on my gio.
However, I experienced some difficulties which I believe they can be improved:
1. Sync Agenda:
I added mail accounts (2x gmail, 1x exchange) and for all accounts the agenda should be synchronised.
My mail accounts are working properly, but the agenda data does not get imported by my phone right now.
Also, when i Look in the agenda app, my exchange account is not mentioned. It says: no agenda available, which is not right.
2. top bar home screen
On my stock rom, the first thing I did, was removing the google search bar on the top of the screen. Once I did that, I could place the simple calender widget over there. Now in AOSP, that is not possible anymore because the top of the screen is not available to place widgets and somehow seems to be the private domain of the 'remove app/widget from homescreen' function.
For me, that is really annoying. I would prefer the 'old' remove function, which would appear on the bottom of the screen.
3. setting data limits / clock alarm
When I tried to set the data limits or the alarm for today, I had to scroll to the right time. It would be alot easier and faster to show a keyboard / keypad to enter the right numbers. When setting the data limits I have to scroll from 5 gb to 50 mb which took really a long time. It was only after I finished that I discovered I could drag te bars (which would already be an improvement).
4. sim toolkit not shown
My sim toolkit is not shown (not in the app list or in the settings menu, where it should be somehow). I need this toolkit to get 3g internet working on my phone. So far, I've created a new APN using all the right and giving settings, but it is not working so far. This makes me believe I still have to do something with the sim toolkit.
5. showing cpu usage freezes my phone
I enabled the show cpu usage setting. After this, I cannot use my phone anymore, it freezes. I do not know how I can go back now and disable the setting. I tried to call myself. My phone rings, but I do not see anything, only a black screen where the cpu usage is shown.
6. wifi switching on takes a long time
it takes quiet a time before my wifi is switched on and connected. It is (much) slower than it was on my 2.3.6 stock rom.
7. importing contacts
i noticed when importing my contacts from my .vcf file that I had to connect my contacts to either one of my mail accounts whether it was gmail of my exchange (work) account. I did not want to connect my contacts with any account (also because my contacts are both private and work), but that was impossible. It would be nice to have this fixed in a future release.
I've been a CM fan since my first Android device, and I'm thinking of going back to stock for battery life. CM sleeps incredibly well on my phone, losing 1-1.5% per hour idle. But the "awake" life of the phone on CM was never as good as stock. I'm a very heavy user, the phone only sleeps for an hour or two max from when I leave my house for work to when I get home. With my new responsibilities at work, I haven't been able to charge much during the day, and the phone is no longer lasting a full day.
Last time I attempted to go to stock, I found a few pet peeves that made me go back to CM and carry a charger.
The dialer is terrible compared to AOSP. Google Voice (what I use for Voicemail) doesn't integrate with it, and you can't swipe from dial pad to recent calls, to contacts.
The stock messaging app is fugly, though it can reliably send MMS, with CM I get about a 80-85% success rate on my first try.
So question one would be, are the dialer and MMS replacable with the stock versions? I can easily pull the APKs from CM and put them onto stock, but before I do all of the work of getting stock back up on there, I wanted to make sure it was possible.
Question 2 would be, is there any way to get the AOSP look of the quick settings and the System settings? I personally find the Touchwiz skins to be cartoony and annoying, plus if I recall correctly, there was no way to customize the quick settings in stock (last time I was stock it was ICS though).
Any and all help is appreciated!

You could try dandroid 3.2. Its a nice AOSP themed ROM or Jelly 'beans' is another AOSP type one. The AOSP MMS is easy to intergrate into any stock rom and most here have that option. You did word it a bit odd as I can't for sure if you like the stock or aosp dialer/mms.
Never had an issue with stock dialer or aosp dialer and AOSP mms workss fine for me. My rom has some things like you mention as well. Lots of different options out there
Allow me to try to clear that up a bit...
stock dialer is non-ideal for me. I like to swipe between the number pad, my recent calls, and my contacts like I can in AOSP. I also "need" Google Voice Voicemail integration.
As for MMS, I think Stock is really ugly, but it works, so I can compromise to using it after I get used to it. AOSP MMS has issues sending MMS on a bad signal for me. I have between no signal and zero bars at my house on LTE, 1-2 bars on HSPA, but AOSP always defaults to LTE if that connection is available. So I perpetually have a bad signal at home.
Thanks for the input, I'll check out the stock roms you mentioned now, and come back with any questions if I any come up.

well I just flashed a touchwiz ROM, and no, you cannot. It really shouldn't... but it drives me nuts!
I flash DanDroid for the AOSP look of most things. So far, so good. A few things that are bothering me though.
1. The "Choose Input" notification that comes up when you have the keyboard open won't go away, even when its unchecked in the Display Settings.
2. The dialer... omg. Can't swipe back and forth between dialer, contacts, etc. The touch tone sound is some "boink" crap that I can't figure out how to change to real touchtones. Google Voice Voicemail integration doesn't work. Why or why would Samsung need to screw with the AOSP dialer and either remove features or add "cartoony" crap? le sigh. I was going to try the dialer suggested above, but it says that it will remind me to buy the pro version every 7 days, not really ideal.
Other than those three issues, everything else seems to be going just fine thus far.
Edit: It appears that I cannot make calls using DanDroid. I tried, it said not registered on the network. I made sure the APN was there and correct, it was, no calls. Re-wiped, flashed, booted, rebooted to recovery, flashed the ATT zip from the main post of the DanDroid thread... When I tried to make a call "Not Registered On the Network". Uhhhgg.
Looks like this battle will have to take place another day. Nandroiding back to CM...
suggestions still welcome.

I am able to text images to people and they get them with issues. If anybody sends me one it didn't come thru. There is a link that says download and I get a busy cursor and it never downloads. I have tried clearing the cache and clearing the data for the stock messages app. I have tried using Google messages and the same thing happens. Any ideas how to fix this?

Did you check your APN settings and make sure they are right?
Check the APN setting for your carrier, I've had same problem in the past and it was always a problem with the APN setting.
It was working fine until Friday. I will check the apn and see though
It was working fine until Friday and didn't make any apn changes. I just looked and the settings all are what they should be. Sorry for the double pay. My app didn't refresh properly

Are you using a custom DNS entry or some sort of DNS changer? This can and does on occasion break MMS capabilities. I have had this problem and by disabling the custom entry (or app) MMS returns to normal.
Did you do anything or make any changes to or with the phone at all prior to MMS not working?
You could also contact your provider and see if they have any seevice problems or issues. It is possible that there maybe a problem on the providers end.. either provisioning, account setting or something else.
They also may need to refresh the device on the network, sometimes when things like that happened to me this usually solved it.
Two other things you can try and/or check.
If your roaming or not. Depending on the provider and plan you might not be able to send mms while roaming. Either they do not offer data use while roaming, or else a data limit is in use (and you hit that limit).
Try resetting the network settings. On your phone it would be under settings > General Management > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will rest all the network settings back to default. Only draw back to this is any saved bluetooth devices and WIFI access points will be lost, so you will have to enter them in again.
I had an issue with mms once too and no matter what i did it wouldnt correct itself. Even factory reset. I changed the sim card to a new one and it worked. Dont know why but it worked. If you have an extra one try that.
I had the same exact issue! It started around Oct. 11th. I didn't even know that I was missing images from friends...they thought I was ignoring their texts. This problem was driving me nuts. I had been searching everywhere for answers and can't believe you described the same exact problem.
I'm on an Unlocked N10+ & I flashed the ATT firmware months ago and thought this might have something to do with it. I never owned an Unlocked phone before. Turns out that it was my own user error -->
I hadn't changed any of the APN settings. I was using Pulse SMS, tried Google Android Messages then the stock SMS app. No luck. I reset the network settings around 4 times. I thought this was the fix because it seemed to work for awhile but only with the stock messaging app. New images came in at first & I could only retrieve those older missing photos for the current day. The missing images were all listed as Unknown Caller. Later on in the day, I wasn't receiving images again...in any SMS app.
I was going to restore/reset my phone today but before that I started backing items up and checked my backed up SMS messages and the 2 recent ones said Oct. 31st!!!. WTH!?!
I then went into my Date/Time settings, I toggled the switch on and off again for the Automatic Date and Time. Re-selected my Time Zone and made sure that the Date and Time were accurate. They weren't...
I'm sure that this is where I screwed everything up because I had set my date (a couple of times in the past few weeks) ahead 5 days to see if I'd get the latest software/firmware update. I forgot to switch something back to my usual (and accurate) date & time setting which includes setting my time zone.
So far, this process seemed to work. I'm once again getting SMS/MMS images and videos within Pulse SMS.
