I know it's in the build prop file, but is there a way to change the DPI without root since we don't have root? I miss having smaller icons on my phone.

you need to change the LCD Density - either with an app, or by manually editting your build.prop

So I am running 4.1.1 and the mod I like doesnt work with it so I was wondering how do you change the DPI manually, Which xml's do change? are there any guides I could follow?

Up. I'd like to know too.
Despite many searches, I didn't find any mod working on JB rooted stock rom.
I just want reduced size for navbar, nothing else (buttons appareance, colors etc... are fine to me in stock state).
Thank you !
bump.
i have copied my framework res and system ui apks and extracted them. ive briefly looked over the xmls that were related to navbar but i honestly have no idea what to edit, or even if thats what needs to be done.
there are plenty of mods made for the rom i use (minco) but they all seem to be bundled with fastglow or the ics blue font for the date/time in the notification shade. i dont want either of those mods.
and bump again.
Go into the build.prop and change it that way no?

Just a suggestion, flash androidME and use the navbar mod. It's a custom Rom without any mod built-in. Meaning stock like.
You can also try aokp nightly, which has built in option to reduce navbar
I have just changed dpi from 240 to 200 with "DPI Density Changer". Next restart phone doesn't open. So i have to reinstall the Rom. How can i change DPI? Thank you.
I usually do it by editing the build.prop with a text editor. I don't know what the app you used does, but if it just modifies build.prop I don't know what else to try.

I too tried to change DPI to my DHD mounting jellytime r28. I was following this guide to mod the lockscreen: [How-To] Octo lock layout for any CM Based Rom
I changed the DPI manually by editing the build.prop and I got the same imparatore's result, phone semi-bricked in bootloop.
Then I found this thread [solved]soft-Brick phone after LCD dpi changes ....but it didn't solve the question, how can I change the DPI without screwing the rom up?
The problem Is solved in pack man ROM. Try it.

Thanks muikkuman! The ROM looks very good, but before flashing it I'd like to check the md5 hash ...do you know where can I find it?

can you tell me how to edit dpi before installing custom rom (to edit deodexed rom zip file)
does changing the value in build.prop will do the work or something else needs to be done?

Not unless you have a custom rom that allows the modification :good:
Or know how to edit the build prop and system UI.
