I've heard there are attachable lens that can fit on your phone. Do these actually work or are they just scams?

No, its legit, they have accessory lenses for my S3 that turns the camera into a more powerful camera with more zoom and sharper focus, but it looks tacky when its attached, the lens sticks out like two to three inches unzoomed and appears to extend out to five inches or so.

How is the quality on everyone's front camera? The colors on mine are really washed out. When I first open up the camera application there is some color, but after a few seconds it becomes washed out. It's also quite dark, even with the exposure turned all the way up. The quality is pretty bad when compared to my brother's ipod touch front facing camera. I understand it shouldn't expect much from a 1.3 mp camera, but it should at least look as good as the ipod touch, right?
What rom are you running? Many devs have had small issues with front camera. I am running skyraider Zeus found in rom manager and mine works perfect.

Colors on my front camera are washed, but it's actually lighter than the back camera. I'm using Newt's Pyramid 1.4. I think he had some problems with the front camera on his original build. Besides being a little washed, it's actually not too bad for a 1.3mp. I'm guessing the focal range may be somewhat limited given it's generally used for video calls and not for taking landscape photos!
Sorry if this is a ridiculous question, but you don't have a screen protector over the camera do you?
Nope, no screen protector. This is really the only part of the phone I'm not happy with. (well this and not having 4g) I'm not sure if the quality was the same on the stock rom though.

isn't the front camera only 1.8mp? What exactly are you expecting out of that? (and I am honestly asking, not being an ass)

I expect it to not be completely crappy. Like I said in my OP, my brother's ipod touch ffc is A LOT better, and I don't really understand why. I'm just trying to figure out if there's something wrong with mine or if everyone else's quality is roughly the same.
if i try taking a picture using my front camera, its really blurred... is it normal?, because i had some phones before that only have VGA Frontal Camera but the images seems to be fine...
i know that we have a great Main camera, but there will be times that you need to use this front camera especially if no one will took picture of you *with you're friends/gf* LOL.. because its hard to use main camera since there's no camera button...

You probably need to get in there with a cotton bud.
You can always use the main camera with a 3 or 10 second timer.

i already did clean the lens... crystal clear but still its worst than most of VGA frontal cam?
thanks for the advice about the timer, but i'm still hoping for much better frontal cam...
The front camera is garbage. Mine makes me look bright pink! The main camera quality is also pretty average, I find it no better than my old Desire HD.

will there be an app or ROM that can fix this?
sometimes there are bits of violet color, which make me look like barney.. LOL
For the red tinge, try dropping the saturation to -1. I don't have any focus problems tho.
cleaning the lens worked for me

my front cam looked really horrible for a while... blurry, tint was way off, grainy, lots of artifacts. cleaning the recessed lens definitely did the trick for me.
Make sure you're well lit. Here's a sample from my camera for the quality you should expect.

Optical zoom is the mechanical zoom of a camera. So that has to do with the hardware. So short answer, No.
Digital zoom is zooming into the pixels. Basically making a lower quality picture in order to zoom in. Digital zoom is software based. So this answer is, Yes.
FYI - There is not enough room in Galaxy S4 smartphone for the mechanics to do 10x optical zoom. So Galaxy S4 smartphone doesn't have 10x optical zoom. The Samsung Galaxy Cameras like Galaxy S4 zoom, Galaxy Camera NX, etc have enough room for optical zoom, So Samsung Galaxy Cameras might have 10x optical zoom (especially with NX interchangeable lens). But the camera series is different from the smartphone series. One of those differences is the space or lack of space for the mechanics of the optical zoom. Another difference is the size of the camera sensor.
Samsung, with their naming, is not making writing this easy.
Well good news. I found a mount for our phones that gives it "optical" zoom.

Yes, you can physically mount another lens to make optical zoom feature with the mounted lens. But not the same thing as having 10x optical zoom feature built into the device. And not really that practical in using a physical mounted lens either. Kind of the backyard mechanic style.

I agree, was just trying to offer other solutions I also agree that you cannot port something mechanical from another phone.

That is not so much the case. Browse through enough sub forums here and you will find cases of people taking parts from one device and making them work in a completely different one.
It really depends on tools, parts and knowledge combined with the right motivation. Some things can be, others can't
First off I'd like to say that I am in no way a professional so be nice! I just thought I'd share my thoughts on this product and its compatibility specifically with our beloved devices.
Some Back Story
Around a month or two ago I stumbled onto an XDA thread that claimed that the ring around the Nexus 5’s camera is magnetic and could be used for things like add on lenses. I read some information claiming this and that for example I read that the magnet would interfere with the OIS or that the white Nexus 5 has the magnetic ring but not the black one so I decided to wait it out. Fast foreward a while and it seems like Photojojo released some information and even a short video demonstrating a lens working with the Nexus 5! Immediately after that I bought a polarized lens and a wide angle/macro lens (The wide angle lens consists of two lenses put together, one of them being the macro lens and the other one which does not do anything by itself) They got to my house VERY quickly and I was very impressed about that!
The Products
Let me start by saying that the lenses do work, you can apply a magnetic ring if you want (I tested with and without, the skinniest ring is the only one that fits), if you are just using the lenses with the magnets built into the Nexus 5 the magnets are not strong at all so be careful (Don't drop them) and the OIS does not seem to be affected at all.
My black Nexus 5 with the skinniest magnetic ring attached
Here is an image of all the lenses, the provided magnetic rings with adhesive backs and my Nexus 5 (The little lanyards on the lenses are attached to a magnet which also acts as a cap for the backside of the lens)
Macro Lens

This is as close to the little dinosaur I could get and stay in focus without the macro lens on (The little dinosaur was a free gift provided by Photojojo!)

Thank you for your time I hope I've helped anyone who's on the fence about picking some of these up! I plan on ordering a super fisheye lens soon which is their newest magnetic lens product and when that time comes I will update this thread!
Happy Holidays!
Hey guys so I had a chance to get some more pictures outside and I've got some bad news. It seems like my original review was not completely accurate, I'm not sure why but when I went out today to get more pictures my results were very different. The following pictures are the Photojojo lenses on and off, when they are on they are kept in place by the Nexus 5's built in magnet.

Conclusion
I came to the conclusion that adding the magnetic ring onto the phone adds a little bit of space which is needed for the phone to get into focus and while it is a little unsightly it works a whole lot better and the quality of the pictures are much better. The following pictures are the Photojojo lenses being held in place with the magnetic rings with adhesive backs that are included. I decided to leave the macro section out because the macro lens is the only one that seems to work well regardless of if you have the magnetic ring on or off.

Happy Holidays!
There we go, from this point on I will be using the magnetic ring thats included...
I still plan on picking up their super fisheye lens so stay tuned!
If anyone else has any experience with the Photojojo lenses please chime in as I would love to hear your experiences with this product and how it works with out Nexus 5's!
Thanks for the write up...
You said that with the macro lens you DON'T need to use the supplied magnetic ring?
That's good news for me then.. Lol
Also you said that you are going to keep the ring on... Even though its unsightly... What about painting it or plastic dip black?
Now off to find a macro photojojo lens

That's right the macro lens worked well with or without the magnetic ring supplied by Photojojo!
I thought of painting it but it would eventually come off so I'm just gonna leave it.

from the shots you've taken, it seems Macro lens is the only one worth getting.

Thanks! Haha its up to you but remember that the macro lens does not come by itself it comes with another portion that doesnt do anything by itself but when combined with the macro lens it becomes the wide angle lens!
Ill get more macro shots uploaded soon then...
in the mean time enjoy this!
My question would be is after removing the magnetic ring the resin left on the lens itself. How hard would it be to remove?

I believe amazon might have them as well
I ordered one of the generic lenses for phone camera from amazon. These lenses are a good addition but not perfect.
You can check out the sample pictures here
Below is the order in which the pictures where uploaded.
1. Photo using the stock app. No lens,
2. Macro
3. Without Macro
4.Wide Angle
5.Macro
6.Attachment Rings
7.Fish Eye
8. Same subject as image #5 without macro lens
9.Macro
10. TeleZoom
Amazon Link.
I took the photos in Manual Mode with 20MP, Image stablisation On, Average Focus.
Very expensive for what it is, a quick search on Amazon or eBay and you will find much cheaper alternatives.

I built one of these DIY microscope stands that uses the lens from a cheap laser pointer strapped to the phone: Smartphone-to-digital-microscope-conversion/

I tried them out not very good picture quality cheap glass=crap results. But for the price if you want to see for yourself go ahead.
I saw your link and $19 for something like that is very expensive, you can find similar lens accessories for a lot less.
