[RESOLVED] Rebooting Error - Desire 816 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I flashed the newest version of Graraks 5.0 CM12, the phone booted everything was normal and I rebooted the phone with the USB plugged in the laptop and the phone (with the intention to clean flash, since I have some minor bugs that others don't), and now the phone has frozen with the battery picture on (when the phones turned off) and won't respond to anything. My normal reaction would be to take off the battery, but since this is a unibody, that's not an option. At the moment I'm waiting for the battery to drain (I had 5% or so) and I'll try turning it back on, in the meantime, if someone has an advice, I'd be more than glad to take it.

Did you try to boot holding the volume up button and power button for 10 seconds!!! My would freeze all the time when always flashing cm11 n the cm12..also would get a black screen at times too..first I tryed using adb on my pc n it just finally booted, thankgod but now usually I just do the volume up n power for 10 sec..since relizing that works for me..everytime I have a frozen phone..because having unibody you cant just take out the battery!!!

Maybe you can delete all the user data and cache using W and it could work? I'm not sure though, I'm not a developer so this is just an idea.

Or maybe your computer hasn't recognised the phone yet, thus rendering your computer unable to perform any action on your phone. I can't think of anything else, good luck.

[Q] Stock Sprint Nexus goes into reboot loop.

I have a stock sprint galaxy nexus that I got off eBay about two months ago. To my knowledge it is completely stock.
I has been working perfectly until last night, when it rebooted suddenly, showed the google logo, then the nexus animation. It then automatically reboots and goes right back to the google logo, then to the nexus animation and continuously loops like that.
I tried going into recovery mode by holding down the volume buttons and power button, and going into recovery mode, but I get to a image like this,

Is there any fix for this?

umm maybe get a restore tool? and flash it back to stock. im on the VZW one but the gnex tool i use supports all the gnexs and i just double checked and sprint is on it .. do you know if the bootloader is unlocked?? itll show a padlock on the bottom of the screen when the google logo comes up ??
There's no padlock. I tried using nexus root toolkit,
http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/
But I can't get the drivers to install because I can't get the phone to turn on.
Am I doing something wrong?

Put it in fastboot mode. Hold volume buttons while pressing the power button.
From there you can flash a stock image either with fastboot or a toolkit

the tool kit that you have is the one i use open it and hit the flash stock button and for it to download the files even if you already have them. itll only work if you down load it again .. and than it should start downloading than after the a cmd terminal will open and itll restore it
I tried this but it says LOCK STATE - LOCKED,
Then FASTBOOT STATUS - FAILBOOTLoader Locked.
I tried clicking Unlock from nexus root toolkit, but I get ADB device was not found. Does the unlock need to happen when the phone is booted up? This would be a problem since I can't get the phone to boot.

umm honestly im out of thoughts ill test some stuff on my own device with my bootloader locked and try some stuff
I unlocked it with this:
http://www.android.gs/how-to-unlock-galaxy-nexus-bootloader/
And now I get the unlocked padlock. However when I click flash stock + unroot, the reboot loop still happens.
Stop using toolkits. Learn how to unlock and flash your phone manually (check out the stickies in the Q&A forum) and you won't have 90% of these problems.
How can I put SuperSU.zip in the phone if it doesn't boot? How did I even have this problem if I never unlocked or rooted or flashed the phone? Is it possible that this is a hardware problem?
I was able to get to boot into Clockworkmod recovery, I did a wipe data/factory reset and it still reboot loops.

than i got bad news
it could be an internal storage issue which means you gotta send it in to fix it
or donate it to me for kicks and giggles XD lol
but no seriously thats a possiblity
Thanks for your help. Doesn't everything I just did to it void the warranty? Can I still send it back?

Strage Bootloop

Guys, I have been on Task's AOKP ROM ever since I got my GS3 last year. Recently, I have been having weird issues with the ROM where if I push the power button to say lock the phone, the screen will cut off then come right back on. After that, it will proceede to freeze and cut off and go into a boot loop. It would also happen if I push the lock button and the screen cut off. The phone would just cut off and restart. Most of the times, the phone would just restart with no issues. However, right now it won't get past the initial boot screen. I can't get into download mode or recovery as it just cuts it off as soon as I prompt it.
I have no idea how to fix this. I am not a noob as I have been doing this for a while and have done my research. I have not found any issues where the power button is somehow causing the phone to freeze then go to a boot loop.
If someone could advise on what to do at this point, I would be grateful. As I said, I can't get to recovery, download mode or Odin as of now.
Thanks in advance!
Take your battery out.
Put it back in.
With the power off hold
Volume up
Power
And home
This should boot into recovery.
Try wiping cache and dalvik cache and rebooting. After a dalvik wrote it needs rebuilt upon boot. So... give it a good 15 minutes to boot before you go on to the next.
Button combo back into recovery. And just "dirty" flash your Rom meaning don't wipe anything.
Still nothing... recovery, factory reset flash Rom again.
I heard someone else with this problem... It was his power button, was sticking on and just kept resetting the phone. He sent it back on warrentee and got a new phone. Get off the original development and come to touch wiz. Much more reliable and everything works without work around. Strats is the best in my opinion.

Im afraid this may be my problem as well. I thought it was a ROM issue, however, I was able to get the phone on finally and I wiped everything and flashed a ROM on there with nothing else on it. I hit the power button to see if the issue persisted and it did. So it is doing this even after I wiped cache, d.c., factory reset and format system. Would it not have to be the power button at this point?
I took the back off the phone to see if I could see the issue, but I can't tell anything. It doesn't appear to be stuck, but apparetly it is once i press it. I have ATT and have insurance, will they send me a replacement? If not, I guess I am out of luck.

You'll have to triangle away and bring it back to stock using Odin if you wanna send it for replacement.

Unroot your device
Need to get your S3 ready to return to the manufacturer? Follow this link and you'll be squared away in under 10 minutes. You'll need:
- Triangle Away installed
- The official stock firmware for your device
- Odin installed on your PC
- Your Samsung USB cable, if possible
- Samsung drivers installed on PC
Thanks guys. ATT is shipping me a replacement phone. I have managed to get this phone on and keep it on by not using the power button.
I will have to go back to stock but am having issues getting Odin to show my phone for some reason. Tried several computer, cords, reinstalled drivers etc to no avail. I can do all this through mobile Odin, correct?
Glad I will get a replacement device, but not happy about having to root and reinstall everything.

As @Mr Hofs said, it does need a new mainboard.
All things involving apx are temp solutions. It might work for a couple of days but it will return. There is a thread about nvflash but nobody has a real solution.
Nobody documented procedure to get out of APX only by chance during random pressing power and volume keys .

Strange system crash. Now unable to boot.

HTC 10 - Rooted - S-ON - Unlocked - Sprint - 2.42.651.63
********************************************************
My HTC 10 decided to have some sort of a system crash the other day. The phone was around 90% when this all occurred and I was not doing anything out of the ordinary when the screen just decided to go black and stay black. It never changed, just stayed right there. In order to shut down the phone, I held down the VOLUME DOWN and POWER buttons at the same time. After this, the phone was completely unresponsive. It would not charge, would not boot and the LED wouldn't even light up to show that it was charging.
After many attempts at trying different key combinations and charging it from anywhere between 10 minutes to 3 hours and attempting the different key combinations again, I was left with a paperweight. It would not do anything at all.
I attempted to charge the phone again over night, but the LED, nor the screen ever lit up. I also noticed that the charger was not warm to the touch as it would be if it was charging, so I determined that the phone in fact was not receiving a charge.
I unplugged the phone and let it sit over night again. I simply hit the power button and it turned on but then froze on the boot screen. I held down the VOLUME DOWN and POWER buttons at the same time to shut down the phone. (My theory here is that it needed to drain whatever power was left in the battery, but honestly, I have no idea).
Tried to power it up again and nothing. Waited about 20 minutes and then plugged the phone in. It was now charging, however it was still unresponsive to any attempt to power the phone on.
I held down the VOL UP, VOL DOWN and POWER buttons at the same time for about a minute and a half to enter the bootloader. I had to LET GO of them all AS SOON AS the bootloader vibrated and the screen turned on. If I did not, I had to repeat the process. Once there, I attempted to enter recovery and the phone just shut off. I repeated the process to enter the bootloader again, this time attempting to enter download mode. It worked, but download mode states that there is a "MODE ERROR" and all of the phone's information (Radio, Serial number, Etc.) either said "ERR" or "UNKNOWN".

Outside of trying to flash a RUU, I'm not sure what options you have outside of sending it in for service.

I cannot seem to flash and RUU without being S-OFF. I've tried multiple ways with no luck. And isn't the warranty void with it being "SOFTWARE MODIFIED" and "UNLOCKED"? I'm not sure they will fix it.
So after hours of experimentation, I have determined that in its current state, the only functions that I have are SOME fastboot commands. ADB does not work and Recovery hasn't worked since the very beginning. The phone will not "REBOOT" into any mode. By selecting any of these type of options, the phone simply shuts off. The ONLY way to get it to turn on is by holding down the VOL UP, VOL DOWN and POWER buttons for that minute and a half.
Would formatting a partition via fastboot help me at all? Or possibly using the "flashall" command?
Sounds like a hardware failure. I doubt there's much you can do.
Adb does not work in bootloader or download mode, only fastboot
You would need to flash stock recovery before locking bootloader. Once you’ve locked, you won't be able to do much and since the phone won't boot you won't be able to unlock again.
I would attempt to flash stock recovery, then chat with HTC support to get it repaired, it shouldn't matter even if it's unlocked

if it don't flash, I wouldn't worry too much about it, u don't have much to lose by sending it to HTC...if there's a hardware failure, they may not even know u had twrp on it

Thank you :fingers-crossed:
Just wanted to say that I got my phone back today, finally. And it was covered by the warranty, so I didn't have to pay a dime. I am now re-rooted and ready to go. Thank you guys for your help.
Well... It happened again. Slightly different this time. The phone powers on just fine but enters a bootloop. Trying recovery just causes it to reboot. I can get to the bootloader but cannot enter download mode. Last time I could enter download mode but it said "Mode Error". I don't really want to send my phone back for another month and a half. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
same exact issue here. Sprint model turned off and just died, finally got into fastboot/download mode but MODE ERROR and all polling of hardware says ERR on the screen. you posted an excellent summary of the symptoms...unfortunately it seems like a emmc corruption or something to me, especially since it failed again after HTC fixed yours. luckily, I bought mine on ebay less than a month ago so I can return it. I hope you were able to get a new model from HTC directly.

Freezing than rebooting, now device is corrupt and may not work properly?

Hi, so just recently my phone has been freezing and rebooting frequently. The likelihood that I can make it to the home screen after entering the password is a complete coinflip, and even if it does there's a good chance that it'll freeze then reboot again. I tried clearing my cache and eventually resorted to a factory reset; which one it's own experienced that exact same issue of freezing and rebooting. Eventually, I managed to set it up, then it rebooted again. This time it brought up a screen warning me that the device was now corrupt and may not work properly. I can't even boot into recovery mode now since that warning screen is the first thing to pop up, and pressing power will continue.
Any tips/advice?
Can you send out that screen?

Sorry, I genuinely can't get the phone to even boot up without freezing and rebooting. Though this photo is exactly what I see before it gets to the startup animation.
This photo is NOT mine, but it is more or less the exact screen I get

After pressing power key, it will just boot to system, and crash?

It'll boot to the lock screen. Which seems to be the safe spot since I can turn it on and off there without any issue. But the second I enter the password it's likely to crash before I can even see the home screen.

Edit: I had a window of luck in which I was able to get back in. I went through some instructions(https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-op6-op6t-how-to-fix-red-boot-screen-device-corrupt.3891479/) to get rid of the warning screen. Though it still frequently freezes and reboots, I've seen some posts recommending to flash a new rom onto it. Would this be the best step given the circumstances?

Yeah. Reflash stock ROM via stock recovery mode.

Sorry one last question, this is my first time doing this. Do I just download the rom(https://www.oneplus.com/ca_en/support/softwareupgrade/details?code=PM1574156155944), transfer it via usb then install from internal storage in recovery mode?

If that doesn't work, you may have to sideload it instead.

Sorry I think I goofed again. I couldn't get it to sideload, I tried many solutions then it just kept getting stuck at 47%. Now that corrupt error is back and when it boots I'm greeted to a black screen with constant phone vibrations instead of the lock screen. Would clearing system data in recovery mode do much?
