This is more of a general ATT thread, but it does relate to my note 4.....
I have a one plus one, and my note 4 and from day to day I want the flexibilty to swap phones as I see fit. It used to be move the sim, and you're good. Lately, I've see issues when I moved my sim from phone to phone.
The first was last week, I bought an alpha clone off of craigslist and voice would work, but data would not. I dropped it back into my one plus one, and same thing, no data. Went to an ATT store, and they did an IMEI swap on my account and all was well in the world. Years ago, the IMEI swap on the carrier system kinda just followed the phones and wasnt ever an 'official' thing...but now it seems it is. Any ideas on this, can I swap my IMEI online with ATT?
Obviously I did a search on it, and it takes me to the ATT website, but it looks more along the lines of swapping when you've made an official order, not just because you want to. Am I missing something?
Change the sim card. When I went from my g2 to a nexus 5 I swapped the sim when I got the nexus 5 in the mail and data wasn't working ect. I go down to the AT&T store and talk to the same girl who's actually on the ball there and we found out that if you have an ICIS sim card it won't work on phones they don't sell. Just get a generic lte sim and see if that fixes it. Good luck!
The Sims that are blue are lte Sims don't get the ones that are purple those are isis

Is that what ATT is giving out by default now? I have a nano sim (that i got for that nexus clone) and it works fine in my OPO. If I put it in my note 4, I only get 4G, not LTE, which I thought was odd. I can do as suggested, just want to make sure I understand first...
All att Sims are lte capable but the purple ones are softcard (isis) compatible, meaning they have the correct security features for the use of isis enabled devices

I think this is just a standard att LTE card...its orange...and it DOES work in my OPO, so I think that theory is out.
Call customer care and give them the imei of a phone that supports lte and have them add that and just not change the sim

The Isis/Softcard is a problem as described above, but there's also a "nextgenphone" feature that goes on your account with newer phones (along with your normal data feature) and newer phones are using that with a related APN so it could have something to do with that new feature. Haven't figured it out yet but I'm playing with the system & I'll post what I find. So far all my secure sims have changed phones fine. My Gear S gave me a couple problems but I'm not sure if they were related.

Interesting. When I went to another ATT store a few weeks ago to change to a nano sim, the rep changed some codes on my plan. I got this in an email:
DELETED MOBILESHAREVSL64VT
ADDED MOBILESHAREVP20
Last night I went to a different ATT store than usual, and found out they were just a partner (though you could never tell it) and he said there were a few wonky codes on my plan, one of which mentioned something about APNs...so maybe youre on to something. He was under the impression it was grandfathered though, so it was old. He could, of course be wrong.
He also tried his SIM (oh and I have a non-secure sim) in my one plus one from his moto x 2014 and it worked just fine. LTE and everything. He put my sim into his X, and got 4G only, no LTE.
So he swapped me back into a non-secure micro sim, just to try things out again, and I left the store with my one plus one working. I came home, dropped it into my Note 4, and got 4G only, no LTE. When I put it back into my OPO, I got a text message saying I needed a new sim to work with my phones new feature. Weird.
The original feature is just normal mobile share data but I'll have to look up the second one I haven't seen that in the system. What i know is that once you put your sim in a newer phone (last few months) the system auto adds that nextgen feature & you end up either needing a secure sim or have to put the correct imei on the account

So that sounds like its our culprit.
If i have a secure sim for my note 4....can I move that to my OPO? I've heard no, but I've also heard yes...
I have been swapping my Sim card that I got with my Note 4 with my Note 3 Nokia 1520 and my Gear S. I have had data act up but only with the Note 4. Everything else has worked fine. In the Note 4 what I have done is add the older apn and toggle to that apn. Let it pickup the 4G lte icon or whatever it is. Got to phone app settings advanced settings and make sure you don't get an error. Then switch back to the Nextgen apn.
Worked for me.

For Christmas I got an iPhone 5s for my daughter,to replace her iPhone 4s.Its been so long since I've used an iphone. Christmas morning she opened it.I told her just swap your Sim card,she came back down kinda upset and said it didnt fit.Now I felt bad,ATT isn't open nothing I could do.I remembered once I took a Sim that was too small and crazy glued it to a iPhone 3g Sim tray and it worked.So I googled cutting an iPhone 5s Sim card,and there's actually a template you can DL and trace where to cut.For some reason my printer didn't want to work so used a ruler and the dimensions that were on the site,it was micro Sim to nano sim. I got really sharp heavy duty scissors and cut it,sanded the sides and corner,even the non contact side because the nano is like a hair thinner,fit right in sim tray and worked perfect.I've offered to give her my S5,nope lol these kids and there Iphones.And that phones IMEI was on my plan that day,it was an ATT phone from someone who recently got a 6plus that I got it from.

I'm a new to ATT and was wondering if a lost phone can still be used inside/outside the US when inserted with a SIM card? Or is there something that blocks the phone?
You sound like the guy who "purchased" a GS3 on Craigslist which was sim locked by AT&T when it was reported stolen. Honestly, why would it matter if you're new to AT&T? If your phone is lost or stolen then report it and they'll in turn shut down that SIM. You can report it to Samsung as well who may track stolen devices no matter the SIM entered.
Won't give any other answer as I'm sure it's a violation of the rules to aid criminal like behavior.

Why would it matter? cause i just switched from VW, which as you know doesnt use SIMS.. I also just came back from a trip overseas where everyone just switched their SIM cards on the plane.. so being a new ATT customer i was wondering how that thing works.. if phones can be locked despite putting a different SIM locally/internationally.. it's just good honest curiosity. ATT CS did tell me i can put any ineternational local SIM and it'll work as long as its a partner..
You kinda sat yourself up for those kind of comments. You didn't ask in the OP if a phone could be used in/out of country.... U clearly said "lost". This is they word that will probably lead everyone that reads this post to think that 1:its a stolen phone or 2:what the guy above me said. Just making an observation.... Since you guys like scenarios VS hypotheticals here's one -- Imagin i lost my phone and bought a new phone under the warranty.. then later found my old phone.. will it still work if i put my SIM in? will i need to report that i found my phone? Those are valid questions that should get valid answers...
SIM cards will work in any phone. You not have to call AT&T to have them activate it. Although I don't know if the new lte SIM cards work in older 3g phones I'd assume they should. And you'd have to return one of the phones because AT&T will block the imei of the one reported lost or stolen. So you generally return the lost/stolen phone.
Edit: Also we should stop treating everyone like criminals because you find the post "suspicious".
Once reported lost or stolen...at&t will block that imei. So no, if you find that lost phone later...it won't work on at&t. Get it sim unlocked and sell it.

here is a set of answers that should help your curiosity, since you are new to GSM/WCDMA-based networks (aka most networks that aren't VZW or sprint):
1. SIM cards can be switched in phones very easily. AT&T's 4G LTE SIMs can still be inserted into previous non-LTE phones (i.e. an old Moto Atrix) and it will work fine as long as the SIM card is valid. Your phone account/line is tied to your SIM card, NOT your phone. this is useful for those who have 'beater' phones for clubbing/debauchery nights.
2. phones from providers such as AT&T are usually SIM-locked, meaning you can only use an AT&T SIM in them. You can use other AT&T SIMs (say, from another account/line) and it will still work fine.
2.a. If your phone is reported stolen to AT&T, they will blacklist the IMEI and it CANNOT be used on AT&T's network anymore, period. So if your phone is stolen, you can have it barred from AT&T. This is why people who buy phones off craigslist often run into issues - the phone is actually stolen. There are no workarounds.
2.b. If you need to use your phone with a different provider's SIM (i.e. another country carrier, or t-mobile) then you need to get it unlocked. this requires a code that you input when you insert a foreign SIM. you can buy this code or get it from AT&T for free, pending a few requirements.
3. Verizon, now that they have an LTE network, uses SIM cards as well now.
Per the insurance rules if you do find the "lost" phone you are supposed to send it to them. I know they black list stolen phones, but from my experience they do not black list lost phones.

I just upgraded an Atrix 2 to an Atrix HD; and after 3 weeks the Atrix HD for a GSIII (fix your software MOTO!). Well between those two phones they switched the SIM card form factor. The Atrix 2 had the ones they've been running since ATT bought Cingular; and the Atrix HD used this one about 2/3 the size called a micro Sim card.
My question is this; can I use my micro SIM in my Inspire 4g I have for a backup?

yes you can. if your slot is snug enough and not a push-slot you don't even need an adapter, just put it in so that the contacts are correctly aligned and it will be fine. did this all through europe when my SGS3 batt died.
I've wondered the same thing. Coming from sprint, I had to verify the ESN wasn't bad if buying used. This one done by calling sprint. I assume its the exact same thing but calling ATT with the imei number to see if its clean?

Oh, that's too bad, it's $0.37. I would see paying $0.35 but $0.37 is completely unreasonable!!!
So I will be getting the HTC One. I'm currently using an iPhone 5, and I want to be able to switch between the 2.
I know the iPhone 5 uses nano sim, and the HTC One uses micro sim, so I will have to buy an adapter.
However, will it even be possible to just switch sims, seeing as Verizon is CDMA?

I'm doing this same thing with my S4. You will have a SIM in the iPhone and a SIM in the HTC One.
You'll need to go onto the website and swap the active device on the line (takes like 5 mins, super easy).
Even if you could just drop the iPhone SIM into the HTC One (you can not), you'd still have to set the IMEI for the device to be the active device.
This is how they track data usage etc. Activation takes up to 15 minutes, but I noticed in my area in socal it took only 2 minutes.
There is no additional cost to swap or use a different device. Did this myself this morning, rep assured there is no charge but they do present a summary of what the line (your phone number) costs monthly. Not to be confused with the IMEI and SIM numbers (for which there is NO cost to swap, add, etc).

I've swapped my sim between at least 20 devices without ever needing to change anything on the verizon web page. The only time I have ever had to have any interaction with Verizon is when going from a nano to micro sim. However I've cut three micro sims to fit into iPhones without issue.

That's way too complicated. Just buy a $5 sim adapter off Amazon and voila. I switch between my s4 and iPhone on a weekly basis and have never had to call verizon or use the website.
With sim adapter I've been using the Same sim and switching between my galaxy s4, iPhone 5, bb Z10, and lumia 928.
Ok, so it looks like there are a couple different options, and now at least I know it's definitely possible to do easily.

I went by a Verizon store today to purchase an HTC One. At the store, there was a sticker on the HTC One that said "NFC SIM required to activate". The sales person didn't know if my nano sim / adapter would work at all in the HTC One. We couldn't even test it, because he said I'd be charged a $35 restocking fee if it didn't work, and if I decided not to purchase... I decided not to take the risk.
Has anyone actually tried moving an iPhone 5 nano sim to an HTC One (using an adapter)?
Can an active nano sim (non-NFC sim) be used / moved a new HTC One, or is a NFC sim really required to activate??

I have not and I don't know the answer to your last question, however I've decided I'm just going to keep the nano sim in the iPhone and keep a sim in the htc one and when I want to switch I'll just go to VZW website and switch phones, like the first answer said. It's real simple so for me it's no big deal. I'd rather not put the wear and tear on the sim and sim tray.
I switch between my HTC One, SG3, and SG4 but they all have same size SIM.
I heard adapters can cause issues

Then why would Verizon put a giant sticker on the HTC One box, proclaiming an NFC sim was required? Placing my iPhone sim in the One (with adapter) will just work? Hopefully this is the case.

nfc sim is only required if you want to use verizons ****ty isis wallet service which no one uses.. google wallet ftw

This will not work. As soon as you activate the One VZ will "burn" your i5 sim. Same thing going the other direction. VZ will not allow you to have two (2) working sim cards.

Verizon used to disable a SIM after its been used... i.e. SIM A in phone, switch to SIM B, SIM A is no longer usable. So your plan might now work.
Instead, you'll likely have to activate the Nano SIM for the iPhone 5, then use an adapter when moving your iPhone 5 SIM to another phone...

i literally just reactivated my nano sim, stuck it in my iPhone to make sure it worked, and then put it into my One using an adapter. works fine

A simple way to get a nano SIM would be simply say you bought your buddies old iPhone 6 or Nexus 6 (Since both use nano SIM) and ask for one in store or if you're doing it over the phone ask for a new one to be shipped after telling that story. If you just come out and say it's for the 5x they might not give you one since it's not directly a Verizon device. I went into a corporate store last week, told them I was an existing customer and needed a nano sim for a phone that I bought through a private transaction.
They asked me if I had the phone with me, I said no. They asked me for my phone number, and if it was an android or apple phone (?), I gave them my number and told them android, and a few moments later I was leaving the store with a new nano sim. No hassle at all.

No shouldn't need to, as mentioned below just tell them you don't have the device with you and you need a new nano SIM give your Verizon number if they ask for it and you should be good to go!
Same thing here, I'm a VZW employee and plan to use the nano sim from my iphone (ugh, I know) and slot it right into the 5x
Finally called Verizon and they are going to mail the sim, but I need to call and provide the device info to activate. Guessing that will not work.
Or you can activate a nano sim using a adaptor off amazon. They are cheap, other option is to cut your current sim down to size.

That's exactly what I did. I always get the smallest card available and use an adapter. Saves me the trouble going between sim sizes and activating.

Pretty sure its no big deal. As long as your a customer just walk in say you need a new sim and they will give you one..Im not even sure if they charge you for it.
The problem is activating the sim, they input details on the phone and it needs to be a Verizon approved device.

The usual work around from what I've seen in YouTube videos is they need to take a SIM from an device at the store that's already activated. Some stores know this and others don't.

When I sold my Nexus 6 to a guy on swappa he used the imei from a display device to activate his sim card on verizon I think. I can't believe that works but apparently it does. I wish it was that easy to bring a phone to sprint. On Sprint the imei numbers have to actually be white listed in the system which always seems to lead to problems on launch day. Due to these phones being compatible with project fi I am hoping all of those numbers are already in the system since they need to be able to work on sprint's network for project fi I assume.
Day 1 - Verizon won't "Activate"

Got my 5X yesterday and ran into a few problems. Still using the old phone for now, but I'm optimistic.
Nano SIM required:
Went to the Verizon store since my S5 uses a Micro SIM. They gave me a Nano but couldn't "Activate" it (see IMEI issue). They postulated if you pulled a Nano SIM from an already activated device (S6, iPhone 6, etc) on your account it may just plug and play, but this wasn't available to me. None the less they gave me the nano SIM and I proceeded to call the tech guys on the phone.
IMEI not in Verizon's Database:
After 3 transfers I finally got to a guy with his head on straight and he confirmed the IMEI isn't in Verizon's database (Deja vu anyone?). We spent a bit of time reviewing the 5X specs (bands) and he confirmed there is no reason why it shouldn't be allowed. Something tells me Big Red intentionally didn't import the device into their database in advance out of spite of the good ole Nexus history. Tech Support was very positive though and placed a request with the big wigs to add the device to the database and allow me to activate as a "new device". Hoping to get a response in the next 24-72 hours. Looks like my 18 years of loyal (Verizon) service is getting more pushing power than I did with the Nexus 5...

Hi man. Dude just find a phone that uses the nano sim. Activate your new sim and put it in the 5X.
I have Verizon and Had the Sony Z3V which uses a Nano sim. I simply pulled the sim out of my Z3v and put it in my 5X. Been using it since Tuesday perfectly. Love the phone on The best COVERAGE network
Pulled the nano Sim from my iPhone and plugged it into the Nexus with no issues. VZW seems to recognize it On my Verizon as an LG device as well
I'm a VZW customer and when the device arrived I called CS. They said the device is on their whitelist and he could send me a SIM. I said that I would drive over to the store and get one. I showed up at a corporate store and 5 minutes after being helped my phone has been on VZW without any issues.

I'm /officially/ starting college now although I've technically already been attending, and I've been surviving with a tablet until now.
I'd like to get a Mi Mix 2, but I'll be adding it to my family's shared plan. As far as i know, the phone has all the bands necessary for use with the company, but i'm more unsure on getting the actual SIM card. I believe they have a 'compatibility' list and they will likely refuse to simply activate a card(?) and try to get me to buy a different phone despite the Mix 2 actually being compatible.
How did you Verizon users get your sim cards?
To add on, i do have a -very- old flip phone, but it stays in my car and is really only used in case i have a wreck, run out of gas on the road somewhere, etc... none of which have happened as of yet. I'm pretty sure when i go in the store and request a new, nano sim card(I'm not even sure the old flip phone even uses a sim card. Its.... old. It does get service, but i know older, CDMA phones worked without them, so..), they're going to want to see the new phone.

I don't use Verizon but from what I understand all you need to do is activate the card in another Verizon phone and put it into your Mix 2. So borrow one of your family members phones and you're done. The same process applies for Google Fi if you're interested in that too.
And you're right about those a$$holes at Verizon. They'll refuse to sell you a sim and push you to buy one of their phones. I tried with my compatible Nubia Z7 Max several years ago and they were rude and aggressive about it.

So, just order a sim online and pop it into another phone? Does Verizon not need to put the phone number/etc on it & deactivate the old, possibly non-sim-using phone or can i do that online and/or during activation? (It has been....a while, since i owned a phone, lol)
Also, don't they register the IMEI number or w/e when you activate the phone? Wouldn't having two phones on the same account/shared plans with the same device number cause issues?
My SIM was already activated with Red Pocket Verizon in an approved Moto G5s+. When I received my new Mi Mix 2 I tried to activate it with Red Pocket but found out that its not a whitelisted phone. So I tried just putting the SIM in my Mix 2 and it worked. The only issue was getting LTE to work. I solved that by getting into phone settings by dialing *#*#4636#*#* and setting preferred network type to LTE/CDMA/UMTS auto (PRL).

So - this is my 1st Dual-SIM phone, and I'm very happy to get away from having to carry 2 different phones (personal on T-Mobile; work on AT&T - in the USA). I thought that everything had been working correctly - until I was away from my Wi-Fi signal. If I have SIM1 selected for data (T-Mobile), everything is fine. If I select SIM2 - I get nothing. It always shows 3G for AT&T even though I'm in a very strong 4G area for AT&T.
I've been through the Access Point Names settings for AT&T and they matched what I found on AT&T's web site. I even duplicated them with a new name to make sure that they were correct - still nothing. I've played around with which slot the SIM card was in as well as only installing one at a time (just AT&T in SIM1, just AT&T in SIM2, etc.) rebooting the phone each time - still no luck.
Hoping for an assist or "things to try" from the community as I don't expect much help from AT&T on an unlocked phones. Any help is very much appreciated!

Welcome to the DS family. Does SIM card manager show 4G/3G/2G enabled for both SIM's? On my older Note 8 4G wasn't supported simultaneously so you had to manually switch the 2nd SIM to 4G but on my Note 10+ this limitation doesn't exist but still worth checking.

4G/3G/2G is selected for both SIM's, but still only shows 3G for the AT&T SIM.

That would've been too easy. Do you observe the same behavior if you swap the SIM card positions? Also what if you put in just the AT&T SIM by itself (i.e. does it ever get 4G in either slot)?

I've tried both slots with just the AT&T SIM - never get data and never anything but 3G. Strange thing is calls and texts go through...
Hmm, that sounds like it's missing an LTE band it needs to get 4G with AT&T. I don't have an AT&T SIM hand to test with but for the non-US Samsung phones don't have full support for the frequency bands US carriers use (I'm assuming you have an intl phone so correct if wrong.).
I have the dual SIM and get LTE on ATT. I reckon you need to contact ATT and tell them you are using a note 10+ and need LTE enabled.

Spent 2 hours on the phone with them last night. They had me set up the Access Point names over & over - no luck. They suggested I buy an AT&T branded phone. Big help...
I once came from another device to another device and had the wrong kind of sim for 4G/LTE. Or maybe the sim is damaged, or it's just registered wrong.
So: try Hard reset the device AND get a replacement sim card from ATT (can get them at the store and don't let them sucker you into paying for it). Perhaps that will do it.
Came across the post below - I do have an old AT&T SIM card (6 or 7 years?). Looks like an Android 9 update at some point caused issues with older AT&T SIM cards. I'm heading out to get a new SIM from AT&T tonight... Thanks for the attempts at helping - I'll update tonight and let you know how it goes. May be in for a fight - it's a corporate phone and I'm not authorized on the account...

So - I was able to get it working. I had been using the same SIM card for 6+ years. However, getting a new one didn't fix the issue.
They said that the IMEI number wasn't coming up as a valid number. I had a One Plus 7 Pro laying around, so I had them register the new SIM card to that phone, and it magically started working (the old Sim didn't work in it, either). After getting that working, I just moved the SIM to the Note 10+, and haven't had any issues, since.

I don't use Samsung Pay, but it was there lurking on the side (I disabled it). I use the Samsung Shop app for rewards - it works just fine.

I guess it's time for me to sell my TMobile one and get the international one. I use the Samsung Pay / Cashback and Shop Samsung app from their set

Did you notice any signal degradation on T-Mobile with maybe lack of bands?
Lastly where did you buy yours from? If it was eBay what was the seller name?
