MAGICSIM Dual Simcard Adaptor for Galaxy Note and S2 Review

Hi everyone!
This is my review of the MAGICSIM DUAL SIMCARD Adaptor for Samsung Galaxy NOTE (my current Phone) and SAMSUNG Galaxy S2 (Previous Phone).
As someone who has used and currently use the MAGICSIM Dual Sim Adaptor for the Samsung Galaxy Note/Galaxy S2, I think I have enough information/experience to help you all make your purchasing decision.
First of all please note that unlike some other Dual Sim Adaptors, both the CUT and NON-CUT versions of MAGICSIM are 3G Sim card standard compliant. Also be aware that only one sim card slot operates on 3G frequencies (SLOT 1 on NON-CUT VERSION and SLOT 2 on CUT VERSION). The adaptor is controlled using a Dual-Sim STK (Sim Toolkit) application that gets automatically installed on your phone.
IMPORTANT: This is a one Sim Card Active At a Time Device so ONLY ONE SIM CARD WILL BE ACTIVE AT A TIME. You will have to use the application to switch sim cards at desired times or using the auto scheduler in the application. THIS IS NOT A DUAL STANDBY ADAPTOR.
Lets go though each one at a time;
-MAGIC SIM 3G DUAL SIM NON-CUT VERSION 28th GENERATION: I used this for about 3 months. At the outset I can state that this is the most fragile/risky version to use especially if you are someone that likes to root/hack you name it with your phone (like me). My reasons are simple. This adaptor's circuitry is very fragile and once it is placed in the simcard slot make sure that it is folded in such a way that you would never have to refold or rearrange the second sim's tray position behind the battery cover. Messing up with this too often will render the device useless and you will have to simply buy a new one. Furthermore, this adaptor's SimCard 1 Slot is a circuity driven plate that goes into your phone's sim slot (Samsung GNOTE/S2) and your 1st Simcard (3G) is inserted on to the top of the plate. Do not attempt to push both the simcard and plate together into the slot, you might damage the adaptor's plate. Also taking simcard in and out too often causes the plate ending to get damaged together with the circuitry on it. So be warned!
-MAGIC SIM 3G DUAL SIM CUT VERSION 28th GENERATION: This is the version I have recently switched to following serious concerns I had with the NON-CUT VERSION. Whilst at first it may sound really risky to use this version because your simcards have to be cut to a size smaller than the current micro-sim standard, the process itself is very easy and the content of the adaptor package has everything you need to resize your simcards to the correct size. You have two templates included with the adaptor too. TIP: If you don't already have the large size sim card (i.e. only have a micro sim like the one used in IPants or Xperia S or some of the new phones then simply place your simcard into a tray that resizes your sim to a normal size sim and stick the template sticker on the metal side and take the tray out. After tha simply cut your sim card by following the cut lines on the template. Once the cutting is done simply place the simcards into the adaptor trays and slide the cover and insert/place into your device's sim tray/slot. Whilst this option is a delicate option, it is nonetheless the best out there in my opinion because you no longer have to risk permanently damaging your adaptor. Don't forget in addition to templates for cutting/resizing your simcards, you also get two conversion trays to convert your cut sim cards to normal size simcards so that you can use your simcards on another phone that is not compatible with the adaptor or in your emergency use phone in case your Samsung GNOTE/S2 needs to be sent for servicing etc...
WHERE AND WHICH ONE TO BUY? Undoubtedly this is the most important question with there being lots of adaptors on Ebay and through retailers. I would strongly advise that you buy the MAGICSIM 28th Generation Version only and either through your established retailer or directly from: magic-sim.com. I bought my one from here and this is a very reputable, quick and professional seller. They are also listed on Ebay I think. SIMORE is another company that offers such an option but I think this version is the best and cheapest option compared to SIMORE offering. There are cheaper adaptors on sale online but make sure you know what you are buying because one of the sim slots included on this adaptor is fully 3G compliant, which means your 3G simcard will fully function if you want to make use of your data package ( I do!). Lastly on to the question of which MAGICSIM adaptor to buy. I have used both and will STRONGLY RECOMMEND THE CUT VERSION. If you are on this forum there is a greater chance that you are all addicted to playing around with your precious Samsung NOTE/S2 devices and the NON-CUT version is not a reliable long term solution for the reasons stated above. Whereas the CUT VERSION, after the initial cutting process will not affect the way use use/abuse your Samsung GNOTE/S2 as the simcard slot is not tampered/used/abused in any way or shape. Finally to ensure better compatibility (it is not the fault of the MAGICSIM) make sure that your simcard is of one of the modern types as very old type simcards with really big metal parts may not work (if you notice that yours is not working don't panic ask your network/cellular provider to replace your simcard as they will most likely send you a modern version considering the times we live in). In response, as stated in my review only one simcard is active at a time. So if you want to receive calls from one simcard whilst using the other, make sure you have call forwarding/call divert enabled on the other simcard so that when one is not active, call from the non active simcard are diverted/forwarded to active simcard. Once again do note that both simcards don't work simultaneously.

I've looked at the web site for these and have been tempted, but your review is well written and helped me decide on the cut version (I was leaning toward uncut). Thanks!

Very interesting!
3G on only one of the SIMs is sort of the deal-breaker for me, though. I travel to Sweden a lot and would love to keep both SIMs in my phone at the same time so I don't lose either one between countries, and I always buy phones with 850MHz and 2100MHz 3G radios so I can have 3G data everywhere.
On Amazon I found a "HyperCard 3G" (while looking for a Magic SIM) and a reviewer says that they get 3G on both SIMs for that one.

I don't have the HyperCard 3G, yet, but plan to get it. I won't be out of the country again until November, but I suppose I can swap my at&t SIM into either slot and see if it picks up 3G/HSDPA when active. Or borrow a friend's iPhone 4/4S SIM.

I can confirm that 3G data does work on either Sim but only on the current active Sim.

MagicSIM works perfect on my SGS2 (with GB 2.3.6) but only on the active SIM card. I have put it now also in my SGN (with ICS 4.0.3) - no problem - but you should buy a SGN version, because on the SGN is the SIM slot 90° rotated in comparison to the SGS2 , otherwise you must twist the ribbon cable if you close the battery cover (but it works too)

Did you have to use the thin metal adaptor door or the normal one for the Note? Nice review

directly from www.magic-sim.com - the shipment needs about 10 days.
I'm currently in Florida on vacation, I use here the magicSIM adapter in combination with an A1 SIM and a US prepaid SIM from RedPocket mobile (http://goredpocket.com) - buyed from http://www.prepaidsimcard.org (this place is a little bit expensive - I think to buy at RedPocket directly would be cheeper)

I'm looking forward to that day when both Sim will work at the same time...

You can receive call on both sim when active sim 2.
If active sim 1, only receive call on sim 1.
If active sim 2, receive call on sim 1 and 2.

really? Wonder if I had a data only sim as sim 2 and sim 2 was active, would a call to sim 1 ring the phone and I could answer it? I'm interested in trying this.

Can anyone confirm if by removing a MagicSim adaptor has any chance of causing damage to the sim housing on the Galaxy Note?

no - removing is not a problem for the SIM slot

How do I maintain my Unlimited Data?

My Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will probably arrive on Wednesday. I purchased it at full price, as I was told to do to maintain my unlimited data.
When I receive my new phone, how do I ensure that my unlimited data gets switched over to the new phone? What is the procedure at that point? Do I use the same SIM card from my DROID RAZR MAXX or do I use the new one? Can I switch my unlimited data plan from my DROID RAZR MAXX onto my new Galaxy Note 4 from the website? If so, what buttons do I click to ensure the process is done correctly? Or should I go into the Verizon Wireless Store for help or should I just call?

If you bought N4 full retail, then you only need to go through the phone replacement process at VZW website and follow the direction. You'll need the sim card from your old phone.

Don't worry, it's actually a pretty easy process. You won't lose your Unlimited since you didn't buy under contract. Here's the FAQ from VZW's website that walks you through the process. (you will have to type it in from the screenshot....apparently I haven't posted but one time in 4 years...lol) Good luck!

I'm on the website, now, just taking a look at it. I clicked on my line, I see two buttons:
-Manage My Device
-Upgrade My Device
Which is it? I'm thinking clicking on Upgrade My Device will do nothing, since I ordered a new phone already on that line. Help, please. Thanks. I'll need to do this on Wednesday when I do receive my phone.

Take SIM card from old phone and use it in new phone. If you have a micro sim just order a SIM card cutter to make it nano size. As long as it's a 4g SIM card it should activate the new phone fine. Also you could've went through bestbuy upgrade process they allow you to choose keep existing data plan but the key to keep unlimited data is to always use the old SIM card and immediately discard the SIM card that ships with the phone. Don't even power on the device until the sim is gone.

So, when my Galaxy Note 4 arrives, remove its SIM card (if already inserted), remove the SIM card from my old phone, and then insert it into the Galaxy Note 4, and THEN power it on. Correct? After I do that, do I need to do anything more? If so, then what?

You don't have to do nothing else unless the SIM card doesn't fit it needs to be cut with SIM card cutter google it SIM card cutter nano

I think this is inaccurate, according to Samsung's site, it's a Micro SIM, so that should be the same size as my DROID RAZR MAXX's SIM card. I think I read somewhere that iPhones have NANO SIMs. Oh well, I'll find out tomorrow if it fits without modifying it.
Question: I'd ordered 3 different replacements for my MAXX while under warranty. To switch between them, all I did was did a backup and restore, and of course, used the same SIM card. Going to my new Galaxy Note 4, will the upgrade process pretty much be the same or do I have to click buttons on Verizon's site or call them or go into the store?

That would depend on what you want backed up. Try using the app Helium from the play store. I posted a link to the app in your other thread on this question.

Actually this thread has little to do with "Backup & Restore". I purchased the Galaxy Note 4 at full price, as what the current deal is to maintain your unlimited data. That, is obviously step one. When the phone arrives, I know I'm suppose to transfer the SIM card. I did the same thing when I had to get a replacement DROID RAZR MAXX for my DROID RAZR MAXX, and my phone instantly worked. My question was simply, is that all I need to do, or are there steps, afterwards? Will VZW instantly recognize my change in phone by simply changing out the SIM cards from old phone to new phone or is it different since it involves two completely different models? Is/are there other step(s) involved?

From everything I've read (because I had the same question) there would be no difference. You should just be able to put your old SIM card in the new phone, turn it on and it will do the rest. Granted, I have never done this myself so I am just going off of what I read. As for the statement that this thread has little to do with the Backup & Restore, I was only answering your question you posed in this thread. Unfortunately, I misunderstood the question. That's what I get for spending so much time reading these forums tonight. My mind cross references other posts that have nothing to do with what I'm reading.

Since you paid full price there really isn't any threat to losing your unlimited data even if you need to activate a new sim card because there will be no need to renew your contract. You can even call Verizon and have them help you activate the new phone just tell them you paid full price. I did this when my wife got a Moto X that was paid full price for.

Joshskorn, seems like people is going to confuse you. Here is the real deal and I have done this many times.
*** You only lose unlimited data if you UPGRADE your device. Activation is not impact your unlimited data.
So in your case, when you received your new no contract phone you have many options and they all SAFE to do:
1) First power off your OLD device, then take your compatible SIM from your old phone and put into the new one. Power on the new phone. It will automatic activate the new device and disable the old device. I found this method is NOT WORKING 100%, it's a hit and miss. If you see the message Activation failed, then try a few more times, if not working, just call VZW customer service and they will help you. You will need to provide them with your phone ID/ESN etc... piece of cake.
2) Use your new SIM (I would recommend this because it's brand new and all the contacts are new), call VZW customer service and activate it. You will need to provide ID and ESN from the label on the box and they will activate it for you..piece of cake.
If you have any more question, please don't hesitate to ask.

The process was even easier than I thought. I turned off my old phone, called the number enclosed with my new Galaxy Note 4, and read the agent the MEI and the ICCID number on the label of my new GN4. That number, was 1-877-807-4646. I asked the agent 3 times just to make sure that I still have my unlimited data, because I'd "heard" you're suppose to transfer the SIM card. He told me "No" and that I'm basically good to go.

Gone are the days of sim swapping???

This is more of a general ATT thread, but it does relate to my note 4.....
I have a one plus one, and my note 4 and from day to day I want the flexibilty to swap phones as I see fit. It used to be move the sim, and you're good. Lately, I've see issues when I moved my sim from phone to phone.
The first was last week, I bought an alpha clone off of craigslist and voice would work, but data would not. I dropped it back into my one plus one, and same thing, no data. Went to an ATT store, and they did an IMEI swap on my account and all was well in the world. Years ago, the IMEI swap on the carrier system kinda just followed the phones and wasnt ever an 'official' thing...but now it seems it is. Any ideas on this, can I swap my IMEI online with ATT?
Obviously I did a search on it, and it takes me to the ATT website, but it looks more along the lines of swapping when you've made an official order, not just because you want to. Am I missing something?

Change the sim card. When I went from my g2 to a nexus 5 I swapped the sim when I got the nexus 5 in the mail and data wasn't working ect. I go down to the AT&T store and talk to the same girl who's actually on the ball there and we found out that if you have an ICIS sim card it won't work on phones they don't sell. Just get a generic lte sim and see if that fixes it. Good luck!

The Sims that are blue are lte Sims don't get the ones that are purple those are isis

Is that what ATT is giving out by default now? I have a nano sim (that i got for that nexus clone) and it works fine in my OPO. If I put it in my note 4, I only get 4G, not LTE, which I thought was odd. I can do as suggested, just want to make sure I understand first...

All att Sims are lte capable but the purple ones are softcard (isis) compatible, meaning they have the correct security features for the use of isis enabled devices

I think this is just a standard att LTE card...its orange...and it DOES work in my OPO, so I think that theory is out.

Call customer care and give them the imei of a phone that supports lte and have them add that and just not change the sim

The Isis/Softcard is a problem as described above, but there's also a "nextgenphone" feature that goes on your account with newer phones (along with your normal data feature) and newer phones are using that with a related APN so it could have something to do with that new feature. Haven't figured it out yet but I'm playing with the system & I'll post what I find. So far all my secure sims have changed phones fine. My Gear S gave me a couple problems but I'm not sure if they were related.

Interesting. When I went to another ATT store a few weeks ago to change to a nano sim, the rep changed some codes on my plan. I got this in an email:
DELETED MOBILESHAREVSL64VT
ADDED MOBILESHAREVP20
Last night I went to a different ATT store than usual, and found out they were just a partner (though you could never tell it) and he said there were a few wonky codes on my plan, one of which mentioned something about APNs...so maybe youre on to something. He was under the impression it was grandfathered though, so it was old. He could, of course be wrong.
He also tried his SIM (oh and I have a non-secure sim) in my one plus one from his moto x 2014 and it worked just fine. LTE and everything. He put my sim into his X, and got 4G only, no LTE.
So he swapped me back into a non-secure micro sim, just to try things out again, and I left the store with my one plus one working. I came home, dropped it into my Note 4, and got 4G only, no LTE. When I put it back into my OPO, I got a text message saying I needed a new sim to work with my phones new feature. Weird.

The original feature is just normal mobile share data but I'll have to look up the second one I haven't seen that in the system. What i know is that once you put your sim in a newer phone (last few months) the system auto adds that nextgen feature & you end up either needing a secure sim or have to put the correct imei on the account

So that sounds like its our culprit.
If i have a secure sim for my note 4....can I move that to my OPO? I've heard no, but I've also heard yes...

I have been swapping my Sim card that I got with my Note 4 with my Note 3 Nokia 1520 and my Gear S. I have had data act up but only with the Note 4. Everything else has worked fine. In the Note 4 what I have done is add the older apn and toggle to that apn. Let it pickup the 4G lte icon or whatever it is. Got to phone app settings advanced settings and make sure you don't get an error. Then switch back to the Nextgen apn.

Christmas morning she opened it.I told her just swap your Sim card,she came back down kinda upset and said it didnt fit.Now I felt bad,ATT isn't open nothing I could do.I remembered once I took a Sim that was too small and crazy glued it to a iPhone 3g Sim tray and it worked.So I googled cutting an iPhone 5s Sim card,and there's actually a template you can DL and trace where to cut.For some reason my printer didn't want to work so used a ruler and the dimensions that were on the site,it was micro Sim to nano sim. I got really sharp heavy duty scissors and cut it,sanded the sides and corner,even the non contact side because the nano is like a hair thinner,fit right in sim tray and worked perfect.I've offered to give her my S5,nope lol these kids and there Iphones.And that phones IMEI was on my plan that day,it was an ATT phone from someone who recently got a 6plus that I got it from.

Verizon compatibility/IMEI

Anyone have the IMEI, ESN, or MEID number for the Nexus 5X(or 6P)?

Looking to enter it in there to check if its "officially" compatible, I know it has CDMA compatibility but want to be sure.

I don't, but FWIW I called them today and they indicated (i) they aren't selling it but (ii) it will work on their network.

Not very good imo. I would think that cutting your current Verizon sim would work the best.

A simple way to get a nano SIM would be simply say you bought your buddies old iPhone 6 or Nexus 6 (Since both use nano SIM) and ask for one in store or if you're doing it over the phone ask for a new one to be shipped after telling that story. If you just come out and say it's for the 5x they might not give you one since it's not directly a Verizon device. I went into a corporate store last week, told them I was an existing customer and needed a nano sim for a phone that I bought through a private transaction.
They asked me if I had the phone with me, I said no. They asked me for my phone number, and if it was an android or apple phone (?), I gave them my number and told them android, and a few moments later I was leaving the store with a new nano sim. No hassle at all.

No shouldn't need to, as mentioned below just tell them you don't have the device with you and you need a new nano SIM give your Verizon number if they ask for it and you should be good to go!

Same thing here, I'm a VZW employee and plan to use the nano sim from my iphone (ugh, I know) and slot it right into the 5x

Finally called Verizon and they are going to mail the sim, but I need to call and provide the device info to activate. Guessing that will not work.

Or you can activate a nano sim using a adaptor off amazon. They are cheap, other option is to cut your current sim down to size.

That's exactly what I did. I always get the smallest card available and use an adapter. Saves me the trouble going between sim sizes and activating.

Pretty sure its no big deal. As long as your a customer just walk in say you need a new sim and they will give you one..Im not even sure if they charge you for it.

The problem is activating the sim, they input details on the phone and it needs to be a Verizon approved device.

The usual work around from what I've seen in YouTube videos is they need to take a SIM from an device at the store that's already activated. Some stores know this and others don't.

When I sold my Nexus 6 to a guy on swappa he used the imei from a display device to activate his sim card on verizon I think. I can't believe that works but apparently it does. I wish it was that easy to bring a phone to sprint. On Sprint the imei numbers have to actually be white listed in the system which always seems to lead to problems on launch day. Due to these phones being compatible with project fi I am hoping all of those numbers are already in the system since they need to be able to work on sprint's network for project fi I assume.

Day 1 - Verizon won't "Activate"

Got my 5X yesterday and ran into a few problems. Still using the old phone for now, but I'm optimistic.
Nano SIM required:
Went to the Verizon store since my S5 uses a Micro SIM. They gave me a Nano but couldn't "Activate" it (see IMEI issue). They postulated if you pulled a Nano SIM from an already activated device (S6, iPhone 6, etc) on your account it may just plug and play, but this wasn't available to me. None the less they gave me the nano SIM and I proceeded to call the tech guys on the phone.
IMEI not in Verizon's Database:
After 3 transfers I finally got to a guy with his head on straight and he confirmed the IMEI isn't in Verizon's database (Deja vu anyone?). We spent a bit of time reviewing the 5X specs (bands) and he confirmed there is no reason why it shouldn't be allowed. Something tells me Big Red intentionally didn't import the device into their database in advance out of spite of the good ole Nexus history. Tech Support was very positive though and placed a request with the big wigs to add the device to the database and allow me to activate as a "new device". Hoping to get a response in the next 24-72 hours. Looks like my 18 years of loyal (Verizon) service is getting more pushing power than I did with the Nexus 5...
I'll keep you guys posted.

Hi man. Dude just find a phone that uses the nano sim. Activate your new sim and put it in the 5X.
I have Verizon and Had the Sony Z3V which uses a Nano sim. I simply pulled the sim out of my Z3v and put it in my 5X. Been using it since Tuesday perfectly. Love the phone on The best COVERAGE network

Pulled the nano Sim from my iPhone and plugged it into the Nexus with no issues. VZW seems to recognize it On my Verizon as an LG device as well

I'm a VZW customer and when the device arrived I called CS. They said the device is on their whitelist and he could send me a SIM. I said that I would drive over to the store and get one. I showed up at a corporate store and 5 minutes after being helped my phone has been on VZW without any issues.

Got a 2XL on order. Trying to get ready. It is listed as having a nano-SIM. I currently have an old Xperia ZL, which is a Micro SIM. I use AT&T.
I am pretty sure this means I need to go to AT&T and activate and buy a SIM, is that right? Which probably means an activation fee? No alternatives, or will they likely be happy I stay and waive fee? Any good paths to do this cheapest? Any expectation they will have trouble provisioning it?
But the other question relates to the SIM. Just in case (especially if later I decide to try to flash it) I want to be able to use the ZL as a backup. I have a micro-to-standard adapter I did for using the Galaxy S2 for a while. I see there are nano-to-micro adapters out there. Anyone have a specific recommendation that works, or are they all pretty much the same piece of cut plastic?
I assume unless I want Project FI there's no chance the eSIM works for AT&T, right?

When I got the Nexus 6p 2 years ago, I was in the same boat. I just ordered a sim cutter from amazon for 10 bucks, and an adapter for 6 bucks. I cut my micro sim to make it a nano. Then, if I need to, I can take the nano, put it in a micro sim adapter tray, and use it in my Note 4 if I need to for a backup. Worked like a charm. I suspect it will work for you as well :good:

If you walk into an At&t store and ask for a new nano SIM card, they should NEVER charge you. I've done this multiple times, they just give you a new one.

I didn't even consider you could cut the sim; that looks easy and the $5 +/- cutters come with the adapters, so even if I get AT&T to give me a SIM that would give me an adapter.
So there's no provisioning or settings on the AT&T side that are needed to use the XL2?
