How is the watch supposed to function ambient versus non ambient mode? In non ambient mode the watch screen shuts off, if I turn the watch it lights up, seems to work ok other than it doesn't turn on 3/4 of the time.
In ambient mode I get the screen in a dim mode all of the time, kind of odd but the second hand in the watch face gets deactivated but oh well. Now when I hold it up it lights up, but has the "ok Google" text on the screen, where with non-ambient mode it would not do this. Is this normal? It's kind of annoying to see the ok Google text.

Here's a really good post describing how ambient mode works: http://www.droid-life.com/2014/09/08/moto-360-ambient-screen-mode/
I think the second hand gets deactivated to save battery(fewer animations). I haven't seen the "ok Google" text on my watch but maybe it depends on your watch face.
I see the OK Google text also. I think that it is trying to let you know that you can say it at any time now and input voice commands for the watch. I understand showing this to people who do not realize such a feature is available but it really should go away after popping up the first 5 times. I really do not need a constant reminder.
Yeah but I wonder why it doesn't show OK Google when ambient mode is off.
The "Ok, Google" text only shows until you've used voice commands ~5-10 times then it goes away.

Cool thanks, I gave it some voice commands and eventually it went away.
Hi all,
is there any way to turn the function off, that the display is turning on by shaking? I want that the display is only turn on by tapping on the watch.

Looks like we'll have that next month. There's an article on phandroid.com with wear lollipop features, and "turn off tilt to wake" is an option.
Anyone figured out if it's possible to have the phone listen for "Ok Google" while the screen is off?
I have voice match turned on to unlock the phone, but only seems to work if the screen is already on, kinda pointless.

First of all, thanks for the answers. To remove any doubt there must be in the settings of Google app an Access with voice match section. There should be the option "even if the screen is off". Can you confirm that one?
There's no "even when screen is off" option
It's strange. When the screen is off and the smartphone is not charging, if you say "Ok Google" then the screen turns on?

From the screenshot above, it looks like the always on far field microphone is lacking from this phone. Without this microphone, you cannot trigger Google Assistant through the "Ok, Google" keyword when the screen is off.
Just to be clear, Google assistant can't be triggered when the screen is off on the A50, you have to wake the screen up for it to work.
I have two phones both running MiUI 11, an MI6 which will only 'OK google' voice unlock when the screen is on and an MI8 which will wake when the screen is off. Does anyone have am MI 9 SE and can tell me if the 'OK google' voice command will unlock/wake when the screen is turned off ? I'm thinking about buying an MI9 SE as I prefer smaller phones.
It will not work with screen off.
