Sooo, I don't get the ambient mode - Moto 360

How is the watch supposed to function ambient versus non ambient mode? In non ambient mode the watch screen shuts off, if I turn the watch it lights up, seems to work ok other than it doesn't turn on 3/4 of the time.
In ambient mode I get the screen in a dim mode all of the time, kind of odd but the second hand in the watch face gets deactivated but oh well. Now when I hold it up it lights up, but has the "ok Google" text on the screen, where with non-ambient mode it would not do this. Is this normal? It's kind of annoying to see the ok Google text.

Here's a really good post describing how ambient mode works: http://www.droid-life.com/2014/09/08/moto-360-ambient-screen-mode/
I think the second hand gets deactivated to save battery(fewer animations). I haven't seen the "ok Google" text on my watch but maybe it depends on your watch face.

I see the OK Google text also. I think that it is trying to let you know that you can say it at any time now and input voice commands for the watch. I understand showing this to people who do not realize such a feature is available but it really should go away after popping up the first 5 times. I really do not need a constant reminder.

Yeah but I wonder why it doesn't show OK Google when ambient mode is off.

The "Ok, Google" text only shows until you've used voice commands ~5-10 times then it goes away.

Cool thanks, I gave it some voice commands and eventually it went away.

"Ok Google" with screen dimmed

I looked around quite a bit, but couldn't find anything on this. I just got the 360 and I've noticed that I have to get out of the dimmed mode in order for the watch to accept voice commands. Also, Even though I have the ambient mode on and screen always on in the app settings the display still turns off after a while.
Anybody else having trouble getting voice activation to work fluidly?

Voice activation seemed kind of buggy with ambient mode on, many times it would not turn on. In non ambient mode it was pretty rock solid.

Awesome thanks, I'll give that a try
I'm pretty sure it isn't suppose to work with the screen dimmed. The watch should brighten as you move it to your face.

It does brighten when I move it, but with the ambient mode on, I sometimes have to do a little more than just move it to get it to brighten. I left it dimmed and screamed "ok google" at it like 4 times with no response. lol

Well ambient is a three step system. Black when at your side or little movement. Ambient when slightly larger movements. Fill on and "okay Google" active when a move defined movement toward your head/midsection.

display shuts off in ambient mode

It is my understanding that the display is supposed to dim, but never shutoff when ambient mode is selected. Is this true? if so, since mine does shutoff, could the fact that I have a screen protector be impacting this?

No it will still shut off after a certain amount of time. It's normal from what I heard.

Also, if you want to turn it off....
There is an Ambient setting in the Android Wear application on your phone/tablet.
If you wait for the watch to dim, and then uncheck the Ambient setting box the screen will turn off.
Good luck!
It has to do with orientation and motion. It dims most of the time but is able to turn off if not in use or held down at your side.

Thanks all. All the reviews online indicate that when ambient screen is enabled, the face would never shutoff, but enter a dimmed state. This clears it up. so the only difference between ambient and ambient mode off is that it would shutoff immedietely instead of entering a dimmed state prior to fully shutting off?

Basically. Ambient mode is on and dimmed quite a bit. Not always. Just a lot.
Ambient mode off basically dims the screen briefly before turning it off completely.
While ambient mode off seems like it would be bad, it's not. The gesture to turn it on is pretty sensitive and responsive. Also, you can just touch the screen or the button to turn it on as well.
?
Anyone know if you can turn off the gesture motion and only turn it on by pushing button. I believe this would save a ton of battery.
Just driving into work this morning the screen turned on 20+ times on a 45min commute.

Yeah just about everyone wants that feature so I would expect it to be included in a future update sometime, it's mentioned on basically every page of this thread:

ambient mode not staying on, and turning off tilt doesn't work

Hey guys, wanted to see if this was an issue. I'm on the latest lollipop build on my 360 and using a Note 4 with lollipop also. In android wear settings I turn ON ambient mode, it stays on sometimes, but other times it turns completely off, I'd say ambient mode doesn't stay off most of the time. I've verified that on the watch itself it says ambient mode is off. I think I narrowed it down to if the watch is turned up, ambient mode stays on, but when I tilt the watch down the screen completely turns off.
Kind of related also is I turn off tilt to activate in android wear settings, but it still turns the watch on, specifically when ambient mode off doesn't work and the phone is not facing up and turns off. I suppose this is normal behavior and the issue remains with ambient mode not staying off.
Anyone else?

This is normal. In ambient mode, the screen turns off after a short while. It seems a bit random. It's probably cos the battery wouldn't last throughout the day if it stayed on.
I personally find the ambient mode and tilt mode a bit annoying (especially when driving at night) so i just have them both switched off and tap the screen or button when i want to see the screen. The screen still lights up when an alert appears.

Motion Sensor – Bug?

Hi guys,
Just bought a Huawei watch. I’m using It with iphone. So far so good, it works perfectly as intended, except for this:
I want the watch to light up, only when e receive a notification (sms, call, etc), and when I touch it.
For this, I’ve disabled the “Always on”, and “Motion sensor”.
The thing is that, if a make a move, the light pops up. This is really annoying.
Any thoughts about this? In your watch this happens?
For troubleshooting.
I’ve reset the watch; restarted it after picking the configs; changed the watch face…
Nothing seems to work. Please, give me a heads up, so I can go to the store and ask for a refund.
Thanks!
Diogo.

So you have Motion sensor OFF but you get a notification, the screen turns on, but you don't dismiss it, the screen turns off with the notification sitting idle for you, and when you move, it turns the screen on?
I have Screen On Always and Motion On. When I get a notification and don't check it, I can juggle my wrist and it stays in Ambient mode. I have to pull the watch face up to my face level to activate the Screen on gesture (or click the screen).

Thank you all.
Apparently, the options of APP Google Wear, overlaps the options Watch equipment.
but I had to turn off the "tilt" option of the application.

Cinema mode and battery stats

Is it possible to turn on cinema mode and get notifications?
I can not find battery stats in Android wear app. Can you tell me where it is?
Open the Android Wear App.
Click on the cogwheel, upper righthand corner, not the 3 dots.
Click on "SmartWatch 3" under "Device settings".
Click on "watch battery" and you get the battery stats.
As I understand it you still get messages when Cinema mode is turned on you just don't get any visible/audible(no loudspeaker on the SW3 but vibration is audible too) notifications. That setting is specifically there so your Smartwatch won't turn on the display lighting and make any sound while you are in a cinema or other sensitive area where light and sound would be disturbing.
Side benefit, it won't react to touches on the display and it also won't turn on the display lights accidentaly when you move your wrist in a way that would make your watch think you want to interact with it. You can however turn the screen on by pushing the hardware button to check if any new messages have arrived.
Haven't tried cinema mode for myself yet, though, so no guarantee on the "still receiving messages" part.
Would be nice to just turn on vibration without having the display light up. I would use that but since that option doesn't exist I just turned of the wrist movement thing. My watch lights up and vibrates, when I get a message which is OK to me since that's what I have a smartwatch for but it doesn't drain the battery from always turning on accidentally just because it detects wrist movement which happened a lot before I turned that option off.
You can use app "Feel the wear" you can have vibration and also screen light if you would. So in Cinema mode you have vibration to know notification and if you choose light on the screen, you can also see the notification if you flick your wrist while screen is on
