Potential fix for NK3 battery drain bug. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

After having terrible battery drain with the newest update, I tried everything to fix it.
Here's what worked for me.
1. Clear the cache through recovery and reboot.
2. Disable consistent WiFi scanning and unneeded location services.
3. Disable security and bug reporting.
Step three was the most useful for me. I now have 4-5 hours of SOT like I did pre-update.
They're located in settings-about device and settings - security.
Disabling these will stop any diagnostic logging from being sent to Google and Samsung. I initially though this was the issue when my Android System battery use was through the roof and "Silent Logging Service" was on top of the list.

If you go to settings-wifi and click the three dot menu, you'll find "advanced". Disable "always allow scanning".

In my data usage, the unified daemon has only used 20kb or so. Is this app responsible for something else?

It is used with location reporting. The Samsung weather widget will not work if the unified dameon is disabled. Other weather widgets and location reporting will still work though.

Nice. Thanks. Got it disabled and will test to see if it makes a difference in the battery life.

#3 makes sense because it's likely pinging the database all day long even when in poor reception areas so it burns battery
#2 is a decent idea but I bet that was enabled before the update when you had excellent battery

O yeah for sure. Will report back.

I think the culprit is actually the enhanced 4G LTE services. Once I turned that off, my battery started to resemble what it used to be before the update. If you go to settings -> data usage -> mobile data -> uncheck 4G LTE services.

Been having horrible battery after update, trying all of the following and will report back:
- Disable Enhanced 4G LTE
- Clear the cache through recovery and reboot.
- Disable consistent WiFi scanning and unneeded location services.
- Disable security and bug reporting.
Will update soon!

Large battery drain

Recently I have been having something, I am not sure what drain lots of battery with leaving no trace that I can see for wakelocking... but it IS keeping my phone awake.
Also I don't even use maps and it eats up a ton of battery wth.
Set your wifi to turn off when your screen is off.
WiFi settings > menu button> advanced> keep wifi on > never
That should help some.
Also, what is your screen on time?

That should work too. The only other way to figure out what is taking all your battery is to scour Better battery stats for rogue wake locks and such. I un installed all my user apps and am reinstalling as I use them so that I don't have a ton of extra stuff running in the background eating all my battery.

Also for note: I am on LTE because I am at school.. some of the building have really bad connection/ 1 or 2 bars LTE.
If I knew how to turn off LTE I probably would...
Also why is maps so high I don't use it.

I find LTE chews up battery. To turn it off should be settings/more settings/ mobile networks/ network mode. And then choose the one under LTE. Saves lots of battery. Also might want to disabled GPS. I looks like it is on according to pics.

Fool me once...with JB remember to disable Con Optimizer

FYI, for the 3rd update in a row Sprint enables Connection Optimizer by default. It is a HUGE battery drainer in the past, and maybe even more so in the JB release. Remember to go into..
Settings --> More Settings --> Mobile Networks --> Connections Optimizer
and uncheck.

But does it stick as disabled when you disable it? I had that problem in LI3 and I ended up freezing it with Titanium Backup.
You have to go to /system/app and delete or rename Connection Manager.apk.
Even if you disable it. It will be turned on again.
That's the Sprint "don't use your unlimited data"

It is causing hell on my phone today. Keeps flipping out and flapping my WiFi connection. Just checked it in Better Battery Stats...yep, this is the third worst offender behind screen and media services. And Sprint pushed out a buggy update that won't let people turn it off...
With this and their incredibly stupid removal of Internet Calling, I can see LJ7 being pulled or a fast update being pushed out ASAP.

try flashing dec 07 nightly see if that helps with the battery.
when i flashed cm10 i had the same problem with gps. go to settings - location access- and make sure its on, gps satellites and wifi/mobile network are checked . GPS source should be "use internal GPS". after that stay in settings and go to accounts- google-location settings- "let Google apps access your location" set to on. i hope this helps
CM10 12/5 >> gps gives big range for location, never locks
CM10 doesn't show gps icon, right..?

first u need to see if ur getting any kind of lock. open navigation app and search for a place. if its stuck on "searching for gps" ur not getting a lock.
try this:
go to settings - location access- and make sure its on, gps satellites and wifi/mobile network are checked . GPS source should be "use internal GPS". after that stay in settings and go to accounts- google-location settings- "let Google apps access your location" set to on. i hope this helps
you could try the steps in the sticky of this thread. if that doesnt work then resort to stock and get it fixed. it's a relatively quick process with mobile odin and everroot.

I would back up sd card. Then do a factory reset. Something is buggy. You could also just wait for kit Kat and see if it fixes it. Should be this week hopefully for the update.
