Attention: this is for an m7 but since the m8 has the same layout for the sim contacts and pins I am also posting here.
Okay so my girlfriend wanted to switch from the icult and wanted to try out my old phone. She has an iphone 5 and while I was making an adapter for her sim card with the correct sim tray she was messing with the phone and decide to try and put her sim tray in. She didn't jam it in all the way so the sim contacts should *hopefully* still be fully intact but one of them seems to be simply stuck on the tray. Could anyone give me some info on where exactly the sim contacts are and the little pin lock things that hold the tray down. Also if anyone has a good idea for something to slide in behind it to release the pin that's locked on please share. And if you're thinking "just yank it" I can't do that because it will break the things that read the sim card. Thanks for the assistance!

Yep I the iPhone Sim tray wasn't going as far down as it could because there's a small nub at the top of it doing it so I cut that part of with an exactly knife then pushed the ready in further and then using a screen protector the pins were released! Nothing was broken either! Thanks :good:

about 3-5 times a day, I'm just using my phone(Verizon gnex) and it suddenly just says
no sim card detected. and it gives me an option to restart. what I usually have to do is turn it off. pull battery out. take out sim card and reinsert. then boot up to make it work.
I haven't really flashed in awhile so I don't think its my ROM problem. I've been running liquidsmooth beta 2 from the day it came out but this problem has started about a week ago.
is it a problem with my sim card? please help me fix this issue...
Either bad SIM or you have dirty/broken pins in the SIM tray. Check that then talk to Verizon.
how do I check if mine is broken?..

Well it looks pretty obvious if you see one. One or more pins are just doesn't look right if it's broken. If you haven't noticed anything abnormal about your SIM tray, I would assume that the SIM tray is fine.
Also have you dropped it recently? If you have, it might be one of the internal that is broken. This happened to me once and had to pay 150$ to repair it. If you have same problem as I had, then your signal should decrease over time and then not read the SIM at all...
If you didn't dropped nor SIM tray is fine, I'll assume there's a problem with the SIM card itself.

Sorry for the late reply but if I go to Verizon, will they give me a new sim card if I ask for one?
would they care if I'm on a custom ROM?

I'm not really sure. I think you can replace the SIM card, but I think you have to pay for it...
Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP with Franco Kernel, overclocked to 1.4GHz
I used to have that problem. Have you had the PUK password input pop up. Or sim security on?
W/ security Id have to pull the battery and pop out/in the sim after Id been on airplane or screen off for period of time

Hi i have searched the forums for answers but just found people with the same problem.
My sim card tray on my note 2 and gone bye bye including one of the pins coming out, (Guess that will teach me for using the sim from my iphone 5) anyway i have some experience with taking apart phones and things and just wanted to know any where i could buy the tray from online.
Only UK based please so i could get sooner thanks.
I used to switch the SIM cards manually in my old GNex, but this has become much less convenient with the SIM tray in Nexus 5. So I've decided it's time for a dual SIM adapter. Such as magic-sim, for example?
Has anyone tried it? Is it convenient to use? Does it fit with all cases? What about standing cases such as this one?
I am curious about this too. The magic sim says it is compatible with the Nexus 5 but I wanted to know if anyone had tried it.
Has anyone managed to get this and have it working?

I have the dual sim adapter that I originally was going to use for my nexus 4 but never tried to do the dual sim.
I've been trying, without success, to put where the sim and the piece under where the info of the sim card reads but keeps saying no sim card. I do have an easy time pulling the sim card out with the piece on the adapter. Keep watching youtube videos but I dont know if I wore out the electro thingies, dont know the technical term, when trying to match.
Does anyone else have any info / experience with a dual sim adapter for the nexus 5
I am in a situation where a second sim would help me out, but i dont want to have to manually swap them out.
Same here, I'd like to use a second sim in my phone if possible... Anyone know if this works?

I just got the magicsim none cut model today. Its works fine switching between 2 gsm networks but the STK menu won't appear when using a sprint Sim and also data doesn't work with a sprint Sim installed. Guess I'm out 50 bucks....

Thanks for the reply! As I'm in Europe and therefore only ever on GSM networks, I wouldn't be having those problems I guess...
Could you please post some pictures of the adapter and SIMs installed in your phone, please? I have literally no idea how the hell these things would work, or how you'd even get the things into your phone to start with.
Thanks!

I could post some this evening for sure.
It gets placed over the microsim in your phone then they together get put in the Sim tray and then folded over. Its paper thing so you slide that into the phone so you then have the second Sim dangling around. You put a full size Sim in slot two and bend it over the back side of the phone and sandwich Sim two in between the phone and a case. Its fairly thin and fits with the play store bumper well with just a little bulging.

So you tuck the second SIM in a case, instead of the phone itself... Thought as much, I had no clue as to how it would work otherwise.
Shame, actually, because I don't use a case (anymore).
I thought I could take the battery cover off and tuck it in there but the vibrator motor is in the way for it to tuck underneath
Hey guys,
I was wondering if there was any success in making the nx5 dual sim ready?
Cheers

Dual SIM adapter from .magic-sim com
Hi!
I've purchased Dual SIM adapter from magic-sim.com
It said the adapter was compatible with Nexus 5.
But now I realized that the phone does not have STK (SIM Tool Kit) - the application to switch between SIMs.
But it seems that the Nexus 5 detects the adapter because after applying it "SIM-1" appeared on top of the display.
So how to switch between the SIMs???
Mine has sim toolkit installed, stock rom.

Could You pls. post screenshots of that application interface & it's icon.
Did You tried to use the Dual SIM adapter??
The app is found in /system/app/stk/stk.apk can't run it though not sure why. Haven't tried a dual sim adapter.
I'm on Verizon, my SIM was a microSIM originally, it came with my Galaxy S3. I cut it down with a SIM cutter a while back to use it with a Moto X (original version), it worked fine for a long time in that phone. I just moved it over to my N5X this morning, and a few hours later the phone has twice told me that no SIM is installed. I had to remove the SIM tray and re-insert it to make it work. Anyone else having this problem?
I cut my microSIM myself freehand and haven't had any issues with it at all. Is it possible that your SIM is dirty/corroded or something? I'd be surprised if the slot on the phone was having issues already.

I actually polished the contacts a bit before putting it in the 5X. It gave me a No SIM error twice in about 3 hours, but hasn't done it in the last 6 hours or so, we'll see if it comes back. I know MicroSIMs are a little thicker than NanoSIMs, I wonder if the extra thickness caused/causes it. If it comes back maybe I'll try sanding the SIM down a bit.

I have been having this happen a couple time a week. I'm in the exact same situation being on Verizon, coming from a Galaxy S3, and I cut my micro SIM down to a nano. Did you sand your cut SIM down or get a new one? If so, did this fix the issue?

I'm still using the same SIM, the problem hasn't recurred so I haven't done anything about it. If it happens again, I plan to sand the SIM down.
Are you talking about a pop-up error, or just it saying "no sim" in the upper right hand side of the screen? I have it take a little bit to recognize after some reboots, but it always recognizes it after 5-10 seconds. I have a brand new sim from t-mobile that I have been using, so it would not be related to a cut sim or anything like that.

Yes!
I had a microSIM cut down and got the issue. Went and got a new nanoSIM still having the issue.
Annoying.

This happened to me again, so I finally just asked Verizon for a new nanoSIM and now it's been a week or so with no problems.
I to am on Verizon. And had my sim cut since I am coming from the g4. And have it pop up saying no sim twice. And I removed the sim and reinstalled it and rebooted the device and usually works. But i hope its just something that will work itself out
Yes it's been doing this for a week since I've had my Nexus 5X, I just had to reboot it to have the sim recognized again. And this morning it says "no sim card" no matter what I do. If i remove the sim and plug it back in, sometimes it will work and last for a minute and then again "no sim card". I'm really pissed. I'll try the sim in another phone to see whether or not the problem comes from there.
So question for Verizon ownwers. I got a nano sim card but need to activate it. Can I activate it with a Verizon phone even if it uses a micro sim? Only ask because I came from the g4 and I cut it but I'm trying to get this nano activated to try and eliminate the no sim.

I just called customer service to activate the sim card and then popped it into my phone. They didn't give me any trouble.
They don't need to activate the sim card to a phone or need an imei?

I called Customer Service and got them to send me one by telling them that I was going to by a Verizon HTC One M9 from a friend. Then when I got the SIM, I just called them again and they activated it for me no problem. I don't remember them asking me for which phone again.
I have seen in other threads on here where people have said that Verizon will activate the SIM card in store even if you tell them its for the Nexus 5X; so, activating over phone or in store should be no problem.
Hi I've been looking to xda for quite some time now for advice and help when I get stuck. First wanna say thank you! But I'm a new member so please correct me if I am posting in the wrong place or reposting. I'm aware that this is not a new problem, however, I have read till my eyes are bleeding and can't seem to find a fix. I have an sgh i747 AT&T gs3. I feel that this topic is unique in the fact that I have not rooted, flashed, altered or in any other way attempted to change this device. My fiance got the phone from her mom and I was going to try to use it with a straighttalk byop SIM kit. After activating the proper SIM with st the device would not recognize the SIM. I am now using that SIM in another phone. I get a constant ongoing notification in the notifications bar that says No SIM Insert SIM card. The device status is official and I have (as far as I know) stock ota updated 4.3 jellybean. When I insert a SIM into the device it doesn't prompt me to enter an unlock code. The only other SIM I tried to use is a sprint SIM card out of my freedompop lg volt. Don't know if that's compatible or not but I tried it and still the i747 acts as though it doesn't realize I've inserted a SIM. I called AT&T and emailed them. All I was able to give them was the imei as the phone number in my settings is unknown. The imei under my battery matches the imei in my device settings. They emailed me back within a few hours with my network unlock code and instructions for unlock. I haven't been able to use the code as my phone never prompts for the input of the code... I called them back later (this all happened earlier today) and spoke with a gentleman in tech support. I told him what was going on and asked him some questions. After doing a lot of research I started thinking that maybe my phone was already unlocked. Asked him to run the imei and said that it DID show unlocked on his end. That's one of my questions, if I still have an imei in my settings is this device still locked? The tech from AT&T told me it was probably the phone that was broke and I need a new SIM reader installed, to call Samsung. I tried to slide a little piece of paper in on top of the SIM that didn't work. I tried the dial code *#197328640# method, even though most posts say you must be 4.1.1 there are some who claim that it works on other versions. I tried a couple variations of this to no avail. I'm not sure what I'm overlooking here. If I'm leaving out any info that is needed to answer this post I'd be happy to include it just let me know. I need some fresh eyes on this thing it's driving me crazy I wanna get it fixed. I'm under the impression that I shouldn't attempt to downgrade this android version or I'll brick it... what the hecks goin on with this phone?! And again, sorry if I'm reposting but I can't find anyone who has posted yet that hasn't altered their device software in one way or another. I believe this s3 is completely official at this point. Thanks for any help you can offer
Is an sdcard recognized?
Was the phone ever used with a sim adapter? Sometimes, inserting and removing the sim adapter can damage the sim reader. Cheapest solution may be to purchase a new sim reader from eBay.
Sdcard works fine... and I'm pretty sure it's never been used with a SIM adapter
It's possible the sim reader has failed. Don't think you'll kn for sure until you are change the sim reader.
Yeeeah... I think I'm gonna attempt to change it right now and see what happens. I'll post back with the results. Thanks guys!
Fixed! Replaced sim port with spare one from an s3 sch I535 I had laying in the junk drawer with a broken LCD display. Posting this from my i747 on straight talk 4g. Sweet!
Glad it worked for you.
Yes and thank you again for responding to my post. This s3 is now rooted and titanium backed! Now excited to attempt to flash cyanogen mod later this evening. Thanks again and take care!
