My wife and I both have the VZW M8, hers is stock and mine is stock rooted. A lately we've both been having issues with the touchscreen getting crazy.
While texting, the gesture typing trail will show up on screen when we aren't using it. Easily fixed by turning that off. However both phones are having issues with phantom touches or complete unresponsiveness. Turning the screen off and then on after a few fixes it briefly, rebooting and letting it sit off for a bit works as well. Just trying to type this up I've had to continuous issues.
Can't do my daily crossword puzzles because it jumps around the board constantly and that's bull****. Anyone else having problems or ideas as to how to fix this?

Hey all, today I just started having a problem with my touch input. Sometimes, it won't register my touches at all, including the hardware capacitive buttons at the bottom. Sometimes, turning the screen off and on will fix it, sometimes it won't.
Other times, I'll get what people call "ghost touches"; the screen is reacting as if I was touching it in certain spots when I'm not. Honestly, I can sit back and watch as my phone uses itself (it's really creepy actually).
The weird thing is that this just happened out of the blue. This morning my phone worked perfectly fine; I had never seen this issue before. Then all of a sudden this started happening. I am using CM6 nightlies and I have tried everything. I wiped everything, flashed the new nightly, flashed a stock 2.2 ROM (with Sense), changed the NovaFreq values, tried a kernel without the FPS unlock, and the problem persists.
Does anyone know how to fix this issue? If it has been over 30 days since I bought the phone, will Sprint still replace it?
Hello, this only started happening recently, I havent changed anything system wise for weeks.
Occaisionally the touch screen will go really weird ; anything that can be scrolled like the UI will jerk for right to left / up or down. The soft keys also only work by pressing the top half of them, the other is unresponsive.
All this can easily be fixed by locking and unlocking the phone. System or hardware do you think?
Please offer any ideas, it is becoming more frequent.

Does it do it when charging?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
I don't know. I only charge it when I'm sleeping.
Hmm.. sometimes I have the same problem, but mostly when I'm playing Shadow Gun. Maybe it is heat related?
WiFi is always on when playing, stock ROM, rooted.
The device gets hot - yesterday it spontaneously rebooted, I think because of the heat.
I've had same issues with my one x ht23. Touch screen looses sensitivity it can happen when in use or when waking device. Flicking screen off and on a few times clears it. Same on various roms but random. Hoping its software issue.
Been doing it for a few weeks. Was fine to start with.
Right now my wife and I both have the note 8.0 (I used to have the note 10.1 until it slid off my roof on the interstate), and there have been a periodic issue with it not responding to touch input.
Intermittently, and at random intervals, the touch input just stops responding. It doesnt delay response or respond incorrectly, it just acts like it never recieved the touch input at all. Playing games, searching on google, typing an email, using s note, etc. It can happen anywhere and anytime. The game or application continues to run, the only hiccup seems to be the touch input not being recognized. Usually, it only lasts for a few seconds, 1-5 I would estiamte.
I have tried a number of settings changes, and even a master reset, and the issue persists. I have a few thoughts on the matter, but don't seem to be able to resolve it.
Has anyone else been experiencing this?

Its a known problem, an update to 4.2.2 seem to have fixed it. But if you are using the AT&T LTE model(Like me) or Rogers then you'll have to wait for the update which god knows how long the carriers will take. Personally I am trying to see if I can isolate the issue.
Havent yet looked at the 4.2.2 and dint really know it was available. Havent had much time to do much with my devices in the last couple of months. My wife and I are both using the wifi only models.
I tend to believe the issue is primarily happening due to a slowdown on the system while processing certain sync functions or i/o functions. I tend to notice it more while connected to wifi and have also noticed at least one cloud sync error when the issue happened.
Hi,
I've been reading for awhile about all these issues with the Nexus 7 2013, and I'm wondering if mine has a hardware defect and needs to be replaced, or if I should just keep it. Perhaps they have updated the hardware since it was first released, and I need a new one?
When I first got mine, it had the erratic phantom touches on my keyboard and rebooted a lot. After I updated to JSS15R, I haven't seen either of these happen again, however it does consistently not register my finger touches (about every other touch). I tested touch in a multi touch app on JSS15R, and if I put 2 fingers down, sometimes the 2nd one isn't seen, but the first one is, and sometimes in certain spots, it will even register more than 1 finger when I have only 1 on the screen, so in regard to that, I am still seeing problems. The touch seems to work normally other than these things I mentioned.
I haven't yet noticed any issues like overheating or GPS problems, and after JSS15R, no more phantom touches either (at least not when using everything regularly, as I still noticed problems in my multi touch app).
Summary of problems before JSS15R:
Phantom touches.
Tons of reboots.
App crashes.
Summary of problems I have with JSS15R:
Missed finger touches. (Doesn't matter if I'm holding it or not, and I haven't checked when it's charging).
Reboots (only happened once, and haven't seen it again since).
App crashes sometimes (haven't seen it too much though).
My view of this: I think that GPS, reboots, and app crashes are a software problem, while touch screen problems (missed touches or phantom touches) is a hardware problem. I think it should be replaced with a newer model because of the touch screen problems (I've seen people here that say they have 0 issues). What's your view of this?
Some of the reboots on this device are hardware. Others are software. If you stop using an app and the reboots go away, it is probabaly software. If it is just random even with all stock apps and nothing added, then it is probably hardware.
Button is hardware.
GPS is software and fixed in JSS15R.
Touchscreen is ultimately hardware variance but if you use the touchscreen fixes many people can eliminate the problem or mitigate to the point it doesn't bother them, though some units are too far off to be saved.

Thanks for your reply! I guess I could probably say that if any of your touchscreen patches completely fix my problems, then it's probably a software problem. I'm glad that the phantom touches are gone, but the missed touches and weird touch problems in the multi touch app are annoying. I was supposing that since my reboots seem to be completely fine now, that it was a software problem. I think I can live with the button problem, as long as the device works fine and has no touchscreen problems.
Does anyone else think it should be replaced? Considering the reports of people with 0 problems, I still lean to this conclusion, and would prefer a newer batch (or at least the touchscreen problems fixed for good).
Is anyone else having issues with what appears to be dead areas when scrolling, swipe texting or otherwise using your phone? In typing this message the phone just lost my finger on 4 occasions. When scrolling webpages it often just stops and clicks an area where my finger was. I'll get occasional double clicking on things when I do try to click. I have trouble purposely replicating my problems but in regular us it is driving me nuts. Because I can't constantly replicate I'm not sure trying to take the phone back will be successful. Anyone else having issues? Could there be something I'm missing somewhere?
Sounds kind of mean but I hope your issue is isolated. I saw the ifixit teardown and the ease with how the digitizer came off of the glass has me worried about the longevity of the digitizer.
Happening to me insanely often on my regular Pixel.
This happens to me occasionally. Sometimes, when typing it spams v and b. If I find anything I will fill you in.
Yes, I'm having this problem with my Pixel. It happens across all apps, even in Settings. Generally it happens if I start scrolling after not touching the screen for a little while.. for example when reading a news article. The scrolling freezes, and I can move my finger around on the screen and it doesn't react, but then it might pick up my finger again and the screen jumps around or clicks on something even though I've not lifted my finger from the screen. I tested it in safe mode and it happens there also. I even got my original device exchanged, and the same thing happened immediately on the new phone. I've been in touch with Google Help this morning and they've confirmed it's a software issue. They've asked me to submit a bug report. It'll help them if more people report the bug though and they have more data to fix it, so if you're experiencing the same issue, please report it! You can chat directly to Google support through settings on your Pixel.
Haven't had any issues but I know the google keyboard can be a bit glitchy at times. I used to have a nexus 6P and I would get weird issues with that keyboard as well on that phone. Getting them less on my Pixel though.
Having issues with typing on my 6P, it's so odd as sometimes I can not type when in desktop mode and sometimes not when in mobile. Switching the webpage screen mode and also doing a soft shut off on the phone and coming back both fix it temporarily. Thought at first using a different keyboard app might help but what app it runs does not solve the problem.
Same problem here. Google pixel
Happening to me as well. Did a factory image flash and it seems to have helped but still happens once in a while. I notice it the most when I'm using reddit sync. Seems to just happen too frequently.
Just an update on this... After doing a few steps suggested by google tech support like, test on safe mode, factory reset using bootloader method, etc... They just replaced my unit. I'm using a new one today and problem is not existent now. I would assume the problem would be hardware.
To be honest, I'm quite happy with their tech support...24/7 support and the staff are really competent. This in my opinion, is worth the high price of the pixel. Good job google!
I have the standard Pixel, and I too had issues with typing (occasionally wrong letters or spaces would register), and dead areas in the top corners of my screen when trying to open apps. I was going to return it one day after confirming that the dead areas at the top of the screen were persistent, but for some reason I decided to grab an App from the bottom of the screen and move it by sliding to the top area. Instantly this cured the dead area issue, even after I moved the app back to the bottom of the screen. It's as if it recalibrated the touch sensitivity vertically as it stopped erroneous spaces when typing too.
Pixel 2 one handed thumb scrolling issue
I have the pixel 2 and I have intermittent scrolling issues when I hold it one handed and try to scroll with my thumb. I realized it's because the base of my thumb is brushing the opposite side of the screen and preventing it from scrolling freely.

You should probably post about that in the Pixel 2 forums.
