I hope not !!! because the JIG is an awesome tool for us flashaholics when things go wrong. I've misplaced mine otherwise I'd test it out.

There was nothing to patch, they just changed either the resistance value of the resistor, or they changed their method of initial flashing at the factory and then removed the forced Download switch altogether from the hardware. Either way it doesn't work on my 8.4" as well. Id laugh if all they did was shift the resistance a little bit, lol.

Can't root after 4.0.4

Hey everyone. I just did the system update from 2.3.6 - 4.0.4. My phone does not like 4.0.4 at all and is almost not functional. I wanted to root and put on roms I know worked fine. So I did some looking through the forums and found a odin one-click for EL29 root. Followed instructions, odin doesn't see that phone is connected. Hmm, ok so I went and made sure USB debugging was on and it was but there was no USB mass storage mode. Any ideas on how to get usb turned on so that I can root my E4GT?
Sounds like you're not putting your phone in download.. Below is taken directly from the OP of that thread..
read, read, read.. and don't do like some and say it's too verbose..
Oh, and place the phone in download while you're NOT connected to your pc.. (That's also in to OP..)

You don't need that to root your phone. Just put it in download mode and run ff18 rooted by sfhub. And you're all set to flash

I'm going to try it on my computer at work tonight. I'll keep checking this thread

Thought I'd bring this up since I saw a similar issue the other day. Turns out that it didn't like the port replicator for the laptop - the USB ports on the laptop though are fine.

Flashed Android Revolution, device stopped reponding

About 20 minutes ago I started Flashing Android Revolution HD on my device then the screen went black. Nothing's happened since then and now it won't start up or anything. What's going on?
I do believe that rom is for the international gs3.

Yes, sir, please get into that mode for me but first make sure your phone is off and then i'll guide you through the rest.
BTW: Are you at a computer? This requires you to download a stock image for your device which is around ~600MB.

I have the tar file in PDA on ODIN, but I can't get my device into download mode because it won't respond. I tried hitting start on Odin anyway but nothing happened.
I was thinking I could tell my computer somehow the device is my phone but I'm not sure if that would help without it being in download mode.
Edit: I'm reading through the post and discovered people in a similar position to me, my charging light does turn on red with no battery in. I'll see if there's some magic fix on that thread somewhere.

Okay so we need to focus on getting your phone into DL mode. Pull the battery for one minute and hold the power button down for ten seconds; re-insert the battery and try to get into DL mode again.

The only thing I can get it to do is turn the red light on when I plug it in with no battery
If you're sure you can't get into download mode then your best bet is to get a USB jig. They're fairly inexpensive, i'll link you one. This jig has good reviews and works for pretty much any Samsung device with DL mode:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0053H73JQ/ref=mp_s_a_1?pi=SL75&qid=1347248180&sr=8-1
Edit: I'll be buying one eventually to test it out. Just ordered one, it will be here Tuesday.

Dude sorry to say but you are done, this has happened to plenty of people on this forum. Your phone is dead (the jig WILL NOT help you, you will need a jtag/warrantee to fix it at this point. Your phone will probably say qusb_dload or something if you try to plug it into your pc, further confirming that fact.

Have fun testin a jig that dont help here. YOUR PHONE IS A DOORSTOP. The link wont help because he didnt flash an international boot image, he flash a whole international rom. look at the script in an international rom vs one of your scripts. The partitioning is ****ked now.

[Q] T-Mobile S2 T989 - hardbricked / can jtag fix it?

I received an SGH-T989 that wouldn't boot. It had TWRP on it, so I was able to flash latest stable CWM. Upon reboot, it apparently became hard-bricked.
Currently, I'm unable to enter download or recovery modes. USB Jig does not work. There is no output on the screen, even when charging the battery. When connected in Windows (32 or 64), I get a usb error message: "This device is disabled because the firmware of the device did not give it the required resources. (Code 29)"
My question: Is the motherboard dead, or could a jtag repair fix it?
What I've tried:
multiple micro usb cables
usb jig
odin
keis
heimdall
Thanks xda!

That would be great! I did see the S3 fix that loads a debrick.img from sdcard - would that work with hardbricked? Windows wouldn't load the usb drive for my phone, complaining that the firmware didn't give the "required resources". So if the firmware is borked, I'm not sure it would be able to load an external img.
I couldn't wait, though. Sent it out for jtag repair :fingers-crossed:

Jtag should always do the job, unless there was physical damage done to the motherboard.

The t989 has great specs, only downside is its PPI (really low) if you still love it, I would wait if you want to send it into JTAG repairs, we are on the verge of unbricking our t989 without JTAG! Looks like we need someone with a working t989D though
I have been studying the other 'unbrick' methods, its definatly mind expanding, the amount of knowledge absorbed can seriously make you forget time n space.
If there is anything I can do / contribute holler at me.
Now ill tell you something weird so I flashed a rom not meant for T989D plus I did it all without being rooted. (if it matters) since Since the flash the phone doesn't boot into recovery or show a bootanimation, just darkness.Yet it felt operational in hand.
Once I plugged it back into the PC all I got was a constant notification of drivers that cannot be identified Also it keeps connecting and disconnecting the device.
None of this is weird until I installed OMAP flash and the T.I. drivers for which was used to fix my friends nexus. After he left I plugged my s2 to the PC still nothing. I looked away for a brief moment . Then i noticed MobileGo for Android popped on screen. Visually showing my s2 as an Alcatel rom.
just bizzare.....
The unbrick method on the S2 is a little different, but in General, at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2646310 after a little work, I resurrected a QHSUSB_DLOAD 9025 T989D to the point of ODIN and fully working Android OS working, just missing recovery.. Soon to follow in a day or so.

Hi, so I also have a hard bricked t989 galaxy s2 (tmobile variant) and I'm attempting to understand the instructions. However my phone has another issue...usb connection to the computer does not work, it hasn't worked since the micro usb port on the phone was replaced because the old one broke. So really the phone could charge but never connect to my pc as it cant be detected...so what are my options? If i create the sd card with the image, will i still need to connect it to a pc in order to force the phone into download mode? Please help...

Rooting without usb

Hi,
I just got an old galaxy note II from a friend, looks like everything works well except the usb port.
It does charge fine, but the computer doesn't see it. Even tried under linux and on another computer, other cable, absolutly nothing in dmesg or lsusb even in odin download mode,
so I'm guessing the usb port of the phone is dead.
Is there any way of rooting that phone without it ?
Works fine without root but I'm so used to flash random up to date roms and stuff, I'd rather have it.
Thanks !

I might need to flash an older version of the rom ? Is that possible with the normal recovery ?

Idk :-/
I Cannot Help You Fix Your Phone
Sorry
Samsung always does crap different. They integrated the nasty vertified boot but does not enable fastboot mode which allows disabling it. At least as far my knowledge reaches, your phone is just to me a fancy, glowing paperweight, although I know telling you that is heartbreaking.
Your options could really get up to:
Find, some other posts related, or senior members and developers who are helpful, or Google 'vertified boot Samsung bypass' as a last hope.
Define your A50 as obsolete, (maybe cry for your money then) sell it on ebay as 'parts / unfixable'. If you need the data protected, sell the body, screen, battery and dispose the motherboard in some known environmentally friendly way.
I don't recommend putting your hopes off, so I will provide some related posts from now on.
If you wanna get the data back, there is a (kind of hard) way to do it.
Unsolder your emmc chip and solder it onto a usb drive.
Also, replacing the EMMC storage chip may help as the corrupted data will be replaced, and maybe that is the answer of the problem but that requires high soldering skills which puts off most people.
