[Q] AT&T Messages backup & sync - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone know how to stop the pop up when you open messages app after reboot? Every time I open messages app I get a pop up saying "your text and picture messages can be backed up and synced to our cloud for 90 days... I don't want this can I get rid of it? I'm rooted, backed up with TWRP and I've got rid of most of the bloat ware from AT&T using Titanium backup anyone know what I have to remove to completely disable this "feature"? Apart from flashing a custom ROM that is... Incidentally, is there a stock (or as to to stock as poss) lollipop ROM for the D850 yet?

the only way i know of to get rid of these messages (because my mom was getting the same thing buy something about how it couldnt sync with the cloud) is to remove the at&t messages, backup & sync feature from your plan.
To remove the Messages Backup & Sync feature from your account online:
Select myAT&T at the top of the page. If prompted, log in. Don't have a myAT&T login? Register today!
Hover over Wireless at the top of the page, and then select View My Plans & Features.
Your current wireless plan, devices, and additional features will be displayed. To manage your additional features, select the Manage link for the device you want to manage.
Current features for the selected device will be listed under Manage My Current Features. Select Messages Backup & Sync and select the option Remove This Feature.
Click the Select & Review button. A pop-up window displays notifying your messages stored on the AT&T cloud will be deleted. Select Continue and then review your changes. To change the effective date for your feature change, select the Edit link. Then, select a date from the available options, and then click the Select button.
Select Remove.
When the changes are complete, you'll receive a confirmation message. Repeat steps to add or remove AT&T Messages Backup & Sync for another device.
To remove the Messages Backup & Sync feature from your account via Phone:
Log in to your account using the myAT&T app1 or from our mobile site (m.att.com/myatt). Find out how to get the myAT&T app.

Leave Email On Server

How do I set up my email so that it leaves a copy on the server so when I get to my laptop the message can be downloaded? I do my email on my laptop but need to be able to receive / send email from my HTC as well. Thanks!

So ... what is the setting on your TP2 that specifies, "do not remove from server"?
There is a setting on the edvanced settings menu when you setup the account, or go to edit the account settings.

use imap instead of pop. pop downloads messages and wont mark them as read on the server or delete them after a month or whenever you set it, and some pop clients delete the email from the server after its pulled. imap is much more advanced and if you can get imap-idle you get push email support.
Leave Email on Server, and other Advanced Settings
I have been frustrated with this issue also. I use my phone for POP email when I am away from my computer. It is almost always business, and I need to keep records of communications in one place. Using Outlook, I archive all old emails to a network server. Since installing my current ROM, I have been unable to find access to the email size, signature and delete handling options. As a result, emails that I delete from the phone also get deleted from the server before I download them to my PC. This is a big problem since I sometimes delete messages from my phone without taking action - planning to deal with them the next day from the office. Dealing with multiple email accounts and up to 50 messages per day makes the phone very cluttered unless I regularly clear them out.
I just discovered the "back door" into the old WinMo style advanced email settings using a tip from another thread regarding email signatures.
I am using the Energy ROM (08-Sep-10, which I love). Here is how to get to the advanced email settings:
1) From any email Inbox (not the Sense screen) tap Menu/Tools/Options to get to the Messaging settings page.
2) Tap an email account on the list.
3) Tap "Send/Receive Schedule".
4) Tap "Advanced Settings" at the bottom of the screen.
5) Choose your option under "When deleting messages:"
Other advanced options are also available this way, including email signatures for each account, as well as download size and scheduling.
I'm happy again!
Tim
Thank you for resurrecting this 9 month old thread.
I too thank you for posting this. I needed to change this on one of my accounts but had forgotten where the change needed to be made. You saved me lots of time searching.
Again, thanks much for the direction.

Importing contact vCard into Google contacts in HTC Sense

I tried to import a vCard sent to me via text message so that it would sync with Google, but it only showed up in the phone contacts which don't sync. Is there a way to import vCards using the People app to accomplish this? I also looked for a way to move the "phone only" imported contact to Google contacts without success.
Try importing through a computer using Gmail. If you look around, there is an import option in Gmail which will sync your contacts.
Oh lol, 100th post.
VCard Import - Directly from Phone?
forceOnature's approach works, 100%.
However I, like Jykinturah, would like to be able to import vCards directly into my phone (i.e. when I am away from a computer). I tried (HTC EVO 4G) and can't seem to figure it out. Does anyone know if / how this can be done?

You could probably do it via Email and the Evo's browser. Just make sure to select "Desktop version" from Gmail (near the bottom) as I don't know if the Mobile version supports contact management.
Importing to gmail
Yes, you can import a vCard contact to the google contacts instead of the phone contacts. You can also move a contact from phone to google, and vice-versa, from the phone.
1. Click on the people icon
2. Press menu
3. Select Import/export
4. Select Import from SD card
5. Select Google
6. Select “Import one vCard file” (may not see this option if you only have one file)
7. Select the file that you are wanting to import as a google contact.
To move a contact from phone to google:
1. Click on the people icon
2. Press menu
3. Select Import/export
4. Select Export to SD card
5. Select phone
Then follow the steps posted to import to google. I have done this multiple times on my EVO, as well as others. This works on every android 2.1 phone I have tested (they have all been sprint devices).

Is there a fix to the Peoples (contacts) where I found not synced all my contacts

Hi All,
I found by accicdent that not all contacts from my gmail account were synced into the WildfireS.
I have tried > Setting > Contact data base > clear data.
The WildfireS then came in completely blank contacts (peoples) and sync again. Unfortunately, the contact that I am looking for still not sync into the wildfireS.
Thank you
Edmond
In the standard Sense UI, the contact list can be filtered. You can set which contacts you want to display and which not.
If the contact(s) you are looking for is (are) not in the right group, it will not display them.
Check if all is set well (I'm translating from Dutch, so I might use the wrong link titles):
- Open Contacts
- Press the 'Menu' button
- Press the 'Display' option (the 'eye' icon)
- In the list that opens, press on the 'Google' option to open the drop-down
- Select the right groups
Also, of course, check in Gmail if the contact you are looking for is in the right group there.
Hope that helps.

Didn't find these two in the manual

So just got this phone and 2 things are bugging me:
1. Messaging shows ALL my gmail contacts, even the ones I don't really add but gmail adds on it's own. How can I make it show only google PHONE contacts? I already chose the option in the contacts app to show only contacts with phone but it doesn't look like this stick in the messaging app.
2. When I hang up, I get a screen asking to add the number, call again or txt it. Can this screen be removed so it just hangs up?
1. Go to your contacts, hit Menu, go to display options. In "Select contacts to display" open Google and uncheck the groups you do not want.

Contacts

Hi!
I now have 14.1.20170314-Nightly-ham on my Zuk Z1
Whenever I try to add a new contact, the only option I get is to add it to the online Gmail account or Outlook account.
I want to just save a contact on the phone (not SIM, but phone storage) but the option is simply not there. (Under Contacts > Add contact round button > Saving to)
Does anyone know whether that was a design decision or could it be a bug? Or, am I missing some setting that I need in order to do that?
I didn't see this feature on any rom but you have the choice to share a contact by SMS/Gmail/Notes/Bluetooth and... GDrive
