[Q] SuperSU not installing - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am unlocked and trying to root Android 5.0.1. I have TWRP installed as recovery and I install SuperSU from a zip through TWRP, but when I check SuperSU in Android it says no SU binaries are installed. What am I doing wrong?

Try to change recovery. For example, Philz Recovery.

Tried PhilZ, same result.

I really need some help here, please... I can't find anything useful when googling either.

update to KRT16S while keeping root?

I just got the KRT16S OTA update, how can I update keeping root? Would root keeper do the trick?
You'll lose root, but you can root it again by installing supersu binary from recovery mode or custom recovery.
Sent from my Nexus 7
Worked. Thanks
I received the OTA update (SRT16S) this evening. I was previously rooted with SuperSU 1.69 and TWRP.
When I boot into recovery, it comes up and says "No command" -- how do I re-install SuperSU?
My Nexus 7 works fine otherwise, just no root.

Same way you installed the first time.
boot to bootloader
fastboot boot twrp.img
choose install
select supersu update.zip

Ok, thanks -- that's what I figured it would have to be but wanted a confirmation.

Lost SuperSU app - no can not boot into recovery

Hello folks,
after performing a more or less accidental factory reset I lost my SuperSU app (I am rooted and have TWRP 2.6.3.0 installed). To update the SU binary I need to boot into recovery. This seems somehow difficult on the LG 8.3, everybody seems to use Flashify (or similar apps) for that. But they do not work without SuperSU. Catch22.
The ultimate goal is to install CM11, but I am unsure how to proceed. How about this:
1) Reflash TWRP 2.6.3.0
2) Update to TWRP 2.6.3.2 using the Flashable zip v2.6.3.2 from here
3) Then flash CM11 using TWRP
Does that sound right? Thanks, Alex

Run the root process again. It should lay down SuperSU or SuperUser again (forget which one is actually used).

Custom recovery issues! Help please!

Guys here's the thing. Android N on my N5X. When trying to install TWRP 3.0.2.2 through Nexus Root Toolkit it first boots up the recovery then when I reboot to system and back there is no TWRP. But it remains there when I use the Root button which roots and installs custom recovery. So when I have root I have TWRP. Can't I have TWRP without root I wonder?

Doesnt the toolkit have a check box to install a script or whatever to patch the system so the recovery wont be over written? Mine has it in flash recovery option!
I'm experiencing this issue as well. I tried to install TWRP after installing that October security updates. I wonder if there's something in the update that is preventing TWRP from installing?

It has something called perm.flash.recovery.zipor something which is described to do the thing you said but the problem is when the phone gets the" flash perm.flash.recovery.zip" it does nothing. It does nothing even when I try to flash it manually when I get the "trial" TWRP which disappears after rebooting.
Had the same problem. I solved it by using the old fashioned way, with fastboot commands found on the TWRP page: https://twrp.me/devices/lgnexus5x.html
Of course, I used the last image: twrp-3.0.2-2-bullhead.img

HTC10 stuck

Help Please -
I unlocked my bootloader and instaled TWRP
Went into recovery and took a full backup
installed UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip
Now my phone will not reboot.
I can get into recovery and have done a factory wipe and tried to reboot, no luck
I also tried to do a restore from the TWRP backup I did prior to installing Supersu and then reboot, no luck
I am on Marshmallow 1.95.401.3
If you can, find an RUU for your version and flash it.
Use the latest version of SuperSU.

How do I root my phone (SuperSU)?

I read the post about it. I'm new to this, it just looked like a lot of jargon. From what I can tell though I can't just downloaded supersu then flash it in TWRP. I tried it, it doesn't work. Can anyone explain in layman's terms how to root my phone? I have the pixel XL. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Thats exactly what you can do. If your bootloader is unlocked and you have TWRP RC1 installed you simply flash SuperSU v2.79 SR3 and all is well.
As noted, you will need to unlock the bootloader before using TWRP to flash the SuperSU zip. At that point the standard warning is: DO NOT LOCK THE BOOTLOADER. Items 1 and 8 from the following have more information.

I did this, and it didn't work. I downloaded the SuperSU app and it said there aren't any SuperSU binaries. I tried flashing multiple times.

The latest beta SuperSU zip is at:

The latest stable SuperSU zip is at:

If you are using TWRP RC1, it should come up with a message when it starts. Sometimes TWRP RC1 doesn't start with the message, and if that happens, I'm not sure if it will install a zip without following the additional instructions from Dees_Troy. Personally I installed the SuperSU v2.79 SR3 zip this past weekend just by booting TWRP RC1, and for a second install I used TWRP Alpha 2. Assuming your Pixel XL indicates it's unlocked, my suggestion would be just to boot the TWRP Alpha 2 image, don't install the TWRP zip, and then install whichever of the above SuperSU zips you want to use.
