[Q]Paranoid Android to Stock - Paranoid Android Q&A

Hi !
It's been a couple of months that i'm on Paranoid Android with my nexus 5 but i want to return to stock and test the new lollipop update on it.
Since its release i have a notification on my nexus 5 to download and install android lollipop, if i upgrade my phone this way will i have some problem and my phone bricked ?
(Sorry for my english if it's not correct all the time )

If you try to run that update it will fail and constantly use data. If you want to flash lollipop right now just get a stock rooted zip and flash it after wiping data

[Q] New to Android. I think I've ruined my install, wifi no longer turning on.

Hi All,
I recently purchased a Nexus 7 (2013). Its my first Android device and so far I've been really enjoying using it.
I managed to root it and installed Multi-rom. I have two roms on it. Stock 4.4.2 and another Kali based rom.
Anyway recently I saw an update for 4.4.3 and I tried to install it from my stock 4.4.2 rom ( I'm thinking this was a mistake?)
Anyway it download and the booted into recovery mode. I wasn't sure what to do and I just rebooted it again and opened up my Stock image.
The issue is now I cannot turn on Wifi for some reason. From the Wireless conections page it just says 'turning on wifi' but never does. If I boot into my other rom wifi works fine.
The version of Android on the stock rom still says 4.4.2. My Kernel version is 3.4.0-g80964c2 and the build number is KOT49H.
I'm kind of new to all of this and don't know how to proceed. If anyone could help me it would be very much appreciated.
Cheers.

Thanks k3lcior!
I guess I can use this to get back to a clean known state with the 'Flash Stock + Unroot' option.
However I was wondering is there a way to update my internal ROM when I've got multirom installed? Trying to update from within 4.4.2 seems to have gotten me into this mess in the first place, so I'm trying to learn how I should update my internal stock rom in the future?
cheers.
I have no idea as i've never used MultiRom so dont want to speculate.

[Q] Nexus 7 2013 (wifi) update from 4.4.4 to 5.1.1

Hi,
I've read many articles about problems with OTA update of Nexus 7 2013. I'm on 4.4.4 now.
I received OTA to 5.0.2, but during update process I received an error (after that my Nexus rebooted correctly to 4.4.4, and is working ok).
I'm a second user od this N7, previous user installed TWRP&root, ROM was stock.
Before OTA update I returned to stock recovery, and unrooted my N7. ROM is still stock.
Now a question:
1. Do you know a safe way to update N7 from 4.4.4 to 5.1.1 but without wipe of all data?
2. Maybe someone successfully used Nexus Root Toolkit on N7 migrating from 4.4.4. to 5.1.1 with no wipe option?
I don't want to brick my N7, if it's a risk of brick, I'll stay on 4.4.4, but 5.1.1 is quite good option...
Thanks for answers,
Marek
I'm having a similar issue in that when I click the install button it gets stuck and won't reboot to install the update. It just says rebooting but nothing happens. So wondering if anyone has any ideas to sort this out without doing a hard reset?

Perhaps you could try this method

Sorted mine out by side loading through adb andriod v5, then it's now updating through the normal process [emoji2] [emoji106]
Sent from my Z3C
But now I have 4.4.4 not 5.1 (as in given links).

first sentence: "Start: Nexus 2013 with rooted 5.1."
Is this safe method for migration android 4.4.4. -> 5.1.1 with no wipe?
Regards,
Marek
I used this guide and sounds like your the same as me so download the 5.0 zip file first and side load this first. Not checked everything yet but it looks like nothing deleted, so all is good.

during sideload I receive: verifying current system... "system/lib/libEGL.so" has unexpected contents error instalation aborted
Not sure with that then as I'm not sure what that means, so can't help you there. Might be best to backup and then install a clean image now. Also you can use app called Helium which will back up app data for Apps which don't do Cloud saves.
That's unless someone else can offer some advice.

I managed to do the update to 5.x in this way:
Step 1. Nexus Root Toolkit -> Flash Stock+Unroot (I choose my current ROM 4.4.4 and NO WIPE option)
Step 2. As was described above by mgdorbit
After step 1 - I was able to process OTA update (Step 2) without any errors.

Marek

Cannot downgrade to KitKat

Hello, I have a Nexus 7 2013 and I love it. One of the main reasons I got this tablet is because it is a flagship Google device and it could run custom ROMs well. I want to throw Kali Pwn pad on it. When I flashed Kali, it looked like it flash successfully, but when it started it would just hang on the Google screen. Since KitKat was the latest edition of KitKat when pwnpad was launched, I decided I should try to flash stock KitKat and see what happens, it appeared like it flashed right, but when my tablet started it would still hang on the Google logo. I also tried to flash CM 11, and still the same thing happened. Every ROM I flash that is based on 4.4 hangs on the Google logo. The farthest I am able to downgrade is Android 5.0.0. My tablet came with 5.0.1 out of the box. I am currently running CM 12.1-20150814 Nightly. Another note, the only recovery I can get working TWRP MultiRom, the other verisions of TWRP (along with CWM) cant mount anything. My goal here is to get either Pwnpad or Nethunter (Nethunter would just hang on the Nexus animation, but I don't think I had enough patience that evening to let it run) installed.
Thank you for your help
Ditto!
Bump!
my device is currently on 5.0.2. i'm unable to downgrade to any Factory Image below that. any info will be helpful.
Solved
OK here is what I found. Yes you can downgrade to KitKat, if you flash this bootloader (attached) after you install your KitKat based ROM. I was able to get Kitkat NetHunter running on a deodexed ASOP ROM. The only recovery I could get running with it is the Multi-rom TWRP recovery, don't get it from the Multi-rom app, just flash the attached recovery. The weird thing is that I bought this tablet directly from Amazon, not Groupon. All talbets coming from Groupon seem to be having the TWRP mounting and the downgrading issues. I notice also that my tablet has a leaking screen. I have taken this tablet to Haiti in mid July. That might be part of the problem, but I think it is a factory defect. I bought the tablet at the start of July.

OTA UPDATE ANDROID 10 WITH MIUI 12 INSTALL

Hello. My phone 1st received ota update miui 12 919mb. I tried to install it and something went wrong. Then I went back to settings check for update and this time it gave me full rum update with the new miui 12 with the volume of 2 GB with android 10 miui 12 integrated. It might be stupid question but I want to make sure if I install this full OTA update well the internal memory be formatted? Because my applications and internal files are very important to me and I don't want to reinstall whole application I can't waste time for that. Flash this downloaded update using TWRP? The main question is that well the internal memory will be formatted or this OTA update will reinstall the current one in the phone and the phone will work normally? My phone is redmi note 8 pro, TWRP installed and rooted and bootloader unlocked running on Android 10 MIUI 11

Upgrading to oos 12 bricks phone

Upgrading from 11.0.9.1(Android 11) to Android 12 using HD1901_11_F.22 update from system upgrades bricks my phone. I live in India and decided to upgrade my phone to Android 12 just to find my phone bricked after rebooting(a white screen flash/blink followed by black screen) and reverted back to oos 11 and did the install again but same result. Is there any way I can install oos 12. P.S I am currently using a oos 11 based custom rom and I had replaced my phone screen with an unoriginal one(because I broke my original screen) if that makes a difference
Model:HD1901
Variant:India
Can somebody help me please
My best guess is that you need to be completely stock OOS11 to properly update to OOS12.
You say that your on a custom ROM that's Andriod 11 and you want a stock Andriod 12.
Therefore, I suggest that it's possible that you must be on stock Andriod 11 to update to stock Andriod 12.
I think that their is incompatibilities between the custom and the stock ROM causing the bootloop issue.
Which would mean the fill wipe of device and loss of all data I would assume. So save a back up what's needed.
So search for the MSM TOOL which will restore your device to it's wiped/stock state (might be only Andriod 11 at this point - not sure is MSM for Andriod 12 is available). Full update from 11 to 12 at that point should work. (I always utilize the full rom update - not the incremental update but not sure if that even matters).
Bottom line is that stock and custom ROMs irrespective of the Andriod base usually involve a complete device wipe and reset when switching from what little I know.
But, I believe I've been able to point you in the correct direction.
