how to know an unlocked phone - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

dear all
how to know if the phone is unlocked or not.
if it works on both t-mobile and At&t , does this mean its unlocked?
thanks

Yes if you are running a stock Samsung ROM. If you are running a custom ROM and the phone can connect to both carriers, the phone is unlocked.

[Q] Unlocked AT&T G3 using on Tmobile - which rom version to use?

I just started using an AT&T branded G3 unlocked on Tmobile. I have no idea if I can flash Tmobile ROMs or if I need to stick with roms only built for AT&T? Someone please clear this up for me once and for all. Thanks!
I wouldn't flash anything thats not specifically made to work with your device. Tmobile g3 has an unblocked bootloader all other g3's are locked currently. Flash something thats not made for your specific device and you may have a paperweight.

[Q] Network restrictions after unlocking

I recently bought this phone on Vodafone (UK) which obviously came locked. I had it unlocked but there are still network restrictions on the device ie can't connect to mobile data on other services but I can call and text just fine. APN settings are restricted as well. Would it be best to try a different stock Rom? And if so, how:
Unlocked bootloader is something completely different to s-off
S-off does not give you sim unlock !
I mean, will trying to flash a fully stock Rom do the trick aa my stock is branded by hybrid carrier I bought the device from.

You mean inderictly is it posible? (dont know how is inderectly ).
Yes, but it requires a seasoned developer to make the modifications necessary. I'm not sure why you'd want to do this though as the AT&T version is far more bloated.

Thanks for your reply.
I absolutely have no that kind of skill.
Anyway, the real reason I came up with that idea is because I cant unlock my T-mobile phone, and I live outside the US.
I've heard and read that sim unlocks by code are having problems.
Unfortunately, flashing firmware will not aid you in unlocking. Have you already tried buying a code for your device?

ROM = Firmware. They're interchangeable terms. Also MetroPCS is owned by T-Mobile, so I don't see your point. Flashing software does not unlock the SIM card slot.

There is no MetroPCS firmware for the S6 Edge as they do not sell it.
my bad this works only on s6...didn't realize you had an Edge
Im living outside of usa .
I have flashed my t mobile s6 using metropcs and unlocked my s6 using a code purchased online.
I reflashed my t mobile software and its still unlocked.
Can i update to stock 5.1.1 using odin and have the device still unlocked .
Once phone unlock is done using a code is it a permanent unlock ?

Your phone was unlocked by code. It is permanent. It is not rom dependant. Just like you flashed a different rom than the metro pcs when you originally unlocked your phone, you can upgrade too.
Flash unbranded rom
I have an unlocked G920T (came locked from amazon, but unlocked easily via device unlock app preloaded)
Is there an unbranded firmware I can flash, even if its from a different variant?
Im also interested to know if i can flash a at&t firmware on my tmobile s6. Not for unlock but because the person i gave it to wants to use the ohone on at&t and feel like its an at&t phone. Whatever right? But can i do that? Or would it have to be a custom rom? Orignal firmware would be nice.

[Q] Flashing Rom with Odin on Unlocked S3 i747

Hello all,
I have galaxy s3 i747 that is network unlocked, it was already unlocked by the time I bought it used from a third party. It is now currently on stock firmware 4.1.2, however I'm willing to upgrade/flash stock 4.4.2, my question is that after I flashed my required firmware will it get relocked again ?
Once the phone is sim unlocked, it will remain unlocked when upgrading or changing ROMs, bootloaders, and modems.

Is Rogers a5 2017 bootloader locked.

I was considering the a5 as a replacement for my Sony, but wondering if anyone knew if the bootloader is locked on this phone with rogers as the carrier. To me a locked bootloader is a deal killer, because I want the ability to run custom come and kernels.
I have a Bell one and I can install custom roms. Rogers is probably similar.
I have the bell version. My phone is rooted and I am using TWRP. I find Samsung phones r the easy to root due to the easy use of odin.
