[Q] Install Android 5.0.1 from HTCDev - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello World,
I've seen the Google Play edition kernel source with android 5.0.1 is released. I've installed unofficial roms from XDA before, but I've never tried with one from HTCDev. The zip file looks diffrend so I just wanna ask how I flash it correct?
My phone is currently running the Android 5.0 rom from SkyDragon. But I believe the official version is better. S-Off, Bootloaded, TWRP.

Unless your phone is a GPE model, this won't work on your phone. If it did, all of the M8 ROMs would be running Lollipop by now.

Well.. it didn't come as a GPE model. But I have Android L running good atm. So whats blocking me from using the official? Are there any hardware differences from the Normal and GPE?

You can go ahead and give it a shot. Converting to GPE does change all of your partition values, so it might work. I have a feeling I am mistaken. Go into fastboot with your phone hooked up and double click the "flash-all .bat" file in the factory image folder. And wait. A long time. That's the method for Nexus devices, I'm sure HTC's factory images aren't too much different this way. I've never tried to flash from HTC Dev img.

You would have to convert back with a Sense RUU, I believe.

JB on New Zealand HTC One X

Hi,
I bought an HTC One X from Telecom NZ earlier this week.
I checked my phones CID, and it is TELNZ001. Is this CID compatible with JB ROM's?
Nope. Sorry
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
You will have to wait for Telecom to release their branded version. They have most likely received the base from HTC and will release it when it's ready. You could of course root the phone, so once HTC release the software for unbranded versions sometime later this month, the chefs on here should have a compatible build up within hours! That's what I'm waiting for, even though my phone is unbranded, the CID is HTC_044 which is currently not compatible with the test release!
Considering there is a LIST OF CIDs in the OP of every Sense JB ROM it's not hard to work out for yourself that a branded handset isn't compatible. Seriously, why can't people just READ rather than go straight for the download links...

But I don't get why the sales guy that sold me the phone (who also bought his HTC One X from the store I got mine from) was able to root his One X, and run the CM10 daily ROM's.
Is it possible that he has an older version One X with a different CID?

No, he unlocked his bootloader, rooted his phone and flashed CM10. It's not too hard, there's good guides on the internet (Google it) and if you need any further help you can PM me if you want.
Just FYI: CM10 is NOT a Sense based JB ROM or even close. It is however a Jellybean (4.1.2) based ROM

Sorry, probably poor use of terminology on my behalf...that's what I want to do, unlock, root, and flash a custom ROM.
What is the relevance of the CID then to flashing a custom ROM?

The CID part only comes in if you want to flash a JB Sense custom ROM. This is because you need to update your HBOOT with a signed (official HTC) zip that checks for your CID, and if it is not on the list it will simply not flash. The HBOOT update is needed for compatability with the new kernel I believe

It doesn't matter what cid you have to use a custom/cm10 Rom, the reason you need a matching cid for the jb/sense roms is you need to update your hboot to run them and the hboot needs a matching cid to flash

So I can't flash ARHD (as it's Sense based) and my CID is not listed, but I can flash CM10 or any of the AOSP/AOKP based ROM's?

You technically can flash ARHD, but no versions higher than 9.7.2 no (9.7.2 is the latest ICS based ARHD)

You can flash ARHD or any other rom which is not a Jellybean based sense rom. The CID is only relevant to change the hboot in order to successfully flash a JB sense rom.
Thanks all for clarifying things for me.
Can anyone let me know when the One X on Telecom NZ upgrades to Jelly Bean?
I really don't want to reinstall to stock rom just to check whether it's upgraded then to find out it's not and have to revert back to present rom.
Or tell me a way to check, emailing Telecom seems to be of no use.
Thanks
I got a private message from member kskendsup saying that Telecom NZ has released the Jelly Bean update for the One X.
Can anyone else confirm this is true?
I have confirmed with HTC and with telecom also that 4.1.1 is indeed out..but there is some prob from their side and they are not accepting it...I am thrashing them as i write this reply...bcoz i called up HTC NZ and they took my IMEI and told me that i was scheduled for an update sometime at the starting of dec...so our CIDs are indeed JB but something wrong with telecom i guess...I have received mail from them and I will include that in my next post here..!!

Here is the mail reply which i received from TELECOM guys and just now i had a conversation with them and they told me that if the update is not gettin pushed then i might need to give my phone for them to check out the matter..i dont have a spare phone At the moment to give my phone but v must talk to them to solve this matter...!!
Anyways here is the mail they sent me which confirms the release
Thank you for contacting Telecom.
We have released the Jelly Bean (4.1.1) Update Last week.
New software is now available for the HTC One X. The update will add Android 4.1.1.
It will provide some feature enhancements, stability to the memory, fixes to CPU hung issue, screen blinking, can't charge, power on/off, etc.
The update will be available through HTC's FOTA (Firmware Over the Air) server. As the files are generally quite large, we suggest to connect via Wi-Fi to a Broadband connection.

[Q] Jelly Bean Official Update and root

So I rooted/unlocked bootloader etc..., but dragged my feet on installing custom ROM's. So i see that Rogers One X is getting an official Jelly Bean update. I am on AT&T so I would assume that the AT&T update is coming soon. Do I need to unroot so I don't risk bricking my phone or will the OTA update work anyway?

yeah man, you need to unroot, get back stock recovery and relock bootloader then use the correct RUU,.
it sounds like alot to do but it really is just a few fastboot commants and letting the RUU run its course, there is many guides but i think you are in the wrong forum, do you have the international one X or the dual core version?
if you have the dual core version then the correct guide for you will be here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1538
Can you point me to a guide for this for the international HOX? I'm running into an issue with the last part, it fails when trying to update. Thanks!

[Q] One M8 GPE Stock Rom

I need to find a stock rom for the Google Play Edition version of the M8, but after searching for several hours, I found nothing. Currently, I'm running a buggy version of CyanogenMod 11. Nearly every post I find on Google or xda pertains to the Sense One M8, does anyone know where to find a rom or how to restore back to stock GPE?
Any help would be appreciated!

Yeah, I've learned my lesson, don't do CM unless I'm out of manufacture updates lol.
So I do see the RUU file linked above, but is it possible to just flash a normal GPE rom in TWRP? I haven't s-off(ed) the phone and it'd be great if I could just reflash, just like most roms.

I could try it this weekend. I'm just a bit reluctant because it seems like such an easy thing to get, yet there aren't any real GPE stock roms as far as I can see. Also I'm not too enthusiastic about paying for s-off. I know from testing a few months ago that firewater doesn't work on my device which just leaves Sunshine s-off for $25

I suppose so. Coming from the GS3 it seems pretty silly that there's no return from flashing a rom lol.
I'll hold out for doing the s-off + RUU and use another rom like sinless until we see if Lollipop gets sent out as a flashable update or full install zip (or, of course, if someone comes across a flashable stock image in the mean time). Thanks everyone for the help so far!
For anyone with the same problem, I've found the original One M8 images! GPE stock rom image can be found here: http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads
Make sure to choose the One M8 Google Play Edition under the devices dropdown, then you'll find the stock images below.

Thanks for the warning, Rev, but we really have to wait and see. If the lollipop update makes the phone more locked than an iPhone, LG has shot themselves in the foot since they don't serve the developers community. Quite frankly if everything seems to be locked, I hope that LG provides a way to unlock the bootloader.

Any 4.x firmware will work on the latest current ROMs.
What you have is probably the latest firmware for T-Mob US; and either way it will work on the custom ROMs.

SD is a fine ROM. At least from what I've read. I've been exclusively a Sense guy on this phone!

I'm not big on suggesting favorite ROMs. Everyone has their own specific preferences, needs, etc.
I've used stock Developers Edition, LeeDroid, Skydragon Sense, and currently on SROM (just flashed it last Friday). But that isn't to say others, such as InsertCoin, Viper, Etc. are not every bit as good.
Thanks man appreciate the info
