[Q] Jelly Bean Official Update and root - HTC One X

So I rooted/unlocked bootloader etc..., but dragged my feet on installing custom ROM's. So i see that Rogers One X is getting an official Jelly Bean update. I am on AT&T so I would assume that the AT&T update is coming soon. Do I need to unroot so I don't risk bricking my phone or will the OTA update work anyway?

yeah man, you need to unroot, get back stock recovery and relock bootloader then use the correct RUU,.
it sounds like alot to do but it really is just a few fastboot commants and letting the RUU run its course, there is many guides but i think you are in the wrong forum, do you have the international one X or the dual core version?
if you have the dual core version then the correct guide for you will be here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1538

Can you point me to a guide for this for the international HOX? I'm running into an issue with the last part, it fails when trying to update. Thanks!

Thanks for that info and yep in the wrong forum. Didn't realize the forums were specific to carrier. :0
thanks again,

[Q] Desire Z 2.3.3-how to root

hello,is it possible to permroot 2.3.3 desire z (official update) and then flash custom ROM(im thinking about cynanogen) on it?
It's hard as hell, but I'm going to restrain my impulsivites and give you the short answer.
no.
No not yet, not until the developers find away past the security.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
so the new rom doesn't have the unlocked bootloader they should be working on at HTC, and it's only locked tighter?
I doubt they are worried about implementing that for the Desire Z.
what about any downgrading possibility?

Nope, downgrade won't work either (for now). Its the same with the G2 Gingerbread ROM. Someone needs to crack it and figure out how to downgrade or root.
If you accepted the OTA, and want root, you screwed up.

of you wanted to have root and have gingerbread, you should've rooted and flashed a gingerbread rom
Damm, i did get mine z yesterday from store included 2.3.3 on it, so i'm screwed at this moment without root options at all.
I hope someone knows a way soon to root original DZ with 2.3.3 original on it.
Ups Still nobody knows how to root DZ 2.3.3??

Do you still need help? You have to downgrade to a stock froyo ROM, then you will be able to root and flash a new ROM.
Yep, I still need help. Looking for as many instructions as possible to compare and choose the best one as the last thing I want is to brick the phone....
So, far it seems this instruction the best one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316420

I hope that should make a "one click" root mechanism possible?
No, the htc unlock is terrible.

Do I need to un root a stock rom to update my Sprint S3 for 4.3 rolling out

I have my phone rooted with this only. I used Odin and this file. CF-Auto-Root-d2spr-d2spr-sphl710.tar.md5
I do have super user and that's it. I was wondering with this new update rolling out from Sprint soon for 4.3. Will I need to un root or can I just update it and lose root.
If I have to un root can someone tell me the easiest. I'm new to this.
I have the Sprint SPH-L710
What I've read is that you have to be on stock ROM doesn't matter if it's rooted/non-rooted. But my suggestion is to wait because there is no coming back to an older version once you upgraded to 4.3. (I maybe wrong on the rooted part ) But it doesn't hurt to double check the threads

If this is new to you then just wait a week or so until someone makes a video tutorial on YouTube

Same boat as OP. Can anyone confirm if a rooted stock ROM can be updated to 4.3 without having to unroot?.

This might have more to do with custom firmware count...
Though I started messing with Android and Linux only 7 or so months ago.

I would recommend checking out "High on Android" video's at youtube, that guy got me started and I haven't looked back, he makes it easy for noobs like us.
Honestly I would go and read up on the general section. There is a ton of info over there. This has been discussed beyond end. The answer is yes you can be rooted but you have to be 100 percent stock! Meaning you have to have stock recovery and stock rom. Once you update to 4.3 OTA you will be stuck on stock for awhile! You will not be able to flash roms or kernels. PLEASE BEWARE! Cnexus has an entire thread explaining knox!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541343
I would do what is recommended and wait..it's being worked on and we will be set free of the Knox Ness monster soon enough.

Sprint update

I just read that T mobile is pushing out an update. Any word on sprints first update. Since im rooted I will not be able to take it. So we will have to wait for a dev to make it flashable. Is this correct? Or is there a way to still get it when sprint pushes one?
AS FOR ME.....GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH
We will have to wait on a dev . Generally it's always fairly quick.

Ok I got it to work on bonsei rom. Not sure of taking an update on Bonsei. Any input? When an update does roll out, Im assuming I need to be stock. Love to hear from the devs if taking an update on bonsei is possible.

Silly me I thought Sprint finally updated our devices so we can extend our battery life and whatever else t-mobile got. But yes you can use the mod to spoof offical or just wait for a rom to include it or just odin back to stock and reroot once it arrives

Probably someone needs to make a flashable zip of the kdz and then he has to try to flash supersu afterwards. This could be working

No that's why I'm warning people...any variant that takes the official lollipop update may never have a way of going back or getting on a custom ROM again...with the g3 official lollipop update...anyone that took it...is stuck on stock with no return as far as I know...I wouldn't be so happy about this official update guys...its also a shame some user warded of the few developers who could even get close to bypassing it possible...a user that released something he shouldn't have

Thanks for the warning, Rev, but we really have to wait and see. If the lollipop update makes the phone more locked than an iPhone, LG has shot themselves in the foot since they don't serve the developers community. Quite frankly if everything seems to be locked, I hope that LG provides a way to unlock the bootloader.

Which 4.3 ROM bricked your phone? Does the phone have a locked bootloader?
I am +1 on looking for original AT&T 4.3 ROM for ODIN.
The original 4.3 rom will be hard to find because AT&T only released 4.3 as a ota update, just like they did for the note 3 and s4.
If the bootloader is not locked, you could try flashing a stock 4.1.2 rom from sammobile.com. If it is locked, you'll have to keep looking.
Up
Can I extract 4.3 ROM from the device so it can be flashed to another one with 4.1?
Up for opinions
Does the phone with the 4.3 rom have a locked bootloader?
From what I remember 4.3 phone can be downgraded to 4.1 no problem
Up still looking
