[Q] Desire Z 2.3.3-how to root - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello,is it possible to permroot 2.3.3 desire z (official update) and then flash custom ROM(im thinking about cynanogen) on it?

It's hard as hell, but I'm going to restrain my impulsivites and give you the short answer.
no.

No not yet, not until the developers find away past the security.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App

so the new rom doesn't have the unlocked bootloader they should be working on at HTC, and it's only locked tighter?

I doubt they are worried about implementing that for the Desire Z.

what about any downgrading possibility?

Nope, downgrade won't work either (for now). Its the same with the G2 Gingerbread ROM. Someone needs to crack it and figure out how to downgrade or root.
If you accepted the OTA, and want root, you screwed up.

of you wanted to have root and have gingerbread, you should've rooted and flashed a gingerbread rom

Damm, i did get mine z yesterday from store included 2.3.3 on it, so i'm screwed at this moment without root options at all.
I hope someone knows a way soon to root original DZ with 2.3.3 original on it.

Ups Still nobody knows how to root DZ 2.3.3??

Do you still need help? You have to downgrade to a stock froyo ROM, then you will be able to root and flash a new ROM.

Yep, I still need help. Looking for as many instructions as possible to compare and choose the best one as the last thing I want is to brick the phone....
So, far it seems this instruction the best one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316420

http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
Just check out the wiki.

The proble I have is that quite a few links for things to download don't work... maybe I should make a specific thread about the problems.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App

Quite simple actually.
This is a better thread I think.

Now that HTC provides UNLOCK BOOTLOADER
What about now that HTC provides UNLOCK BOOTLOADER.
[being a noobie I can't post the HTC link here]
I hope that should make a "one click" root mechanism possible?

No, the htc unlock is terrible.
and one click solutions are terrible. Here's a good article about them http://www.xda-developers.com/android/one-click-and-the-simplification-of-technology-is-this-a-good-or-bad-thing/

Not sure if anyone is, the exploit is there in the older ROM and no real benefit's from running the newer stock ROM's so not sure there is a huge call for a new root exploit, especially as if you have S-OFF and Radio S-OFF you can downgrade, root and upgrade to 1.72/1.75 whilst maintaining root so seems like a lot of work for little advantage
Downgrade & root, atm its the only way, and I think will be the only one.

1- dwgrade
2- root
3-s-off - radio off. supercid
4-flash a rootable 1.72 from xda
5-NEVER flash via OTA
6-register,subscribe,read,download, XDAapp
7-u will be happy!

Sorry, chum devs have got better things to do than spend weeks looking for a new exploit because some users are too lazy to downgrade. Really it isn't going to happen so bite the bullet and downgrade.

Can you tell us how? Because this software version seems to have patched the exploit used to gain root.
I tried to do it using zergRush exploit and it did not work.
same here...
Any way to downgrade to sense 2.1?

I have the same issue. I could not find any ROM that really made me want to root my DHD until the ICS, but I just accepted the OTA for 2.3.5 few weeks ago.
Did anybody try this?

Got the same problem over here. I had an unbranded phone but my 3.5mm jack was corrupted (i guess just dirty or some wear on the pins) so they replaced my entire motherboard.
Guess what, they installed this vodafone-branded ROM and now im stuck with this stupid device only for a corrupted jack slot.
3.13.161.3? i dont know this base which country?
Vodafone has put it on my DHD this afternoon after a repair. Its a dutch store but maybe its vodafone-widely spreaded and then i guess its in germany too. I dont know other countries they use this ROM.
But im gonna hope the guys there will put an unbranded ROM on it. Or else it won't be a happy year for them.
Htc supertool worked for me!
I'm on 3.12.405.1 (also Sense3) .. but my phone was already Ship S-off first (from trying CM7 back in june).
Now it's time for ARHD or RCMix3d - yiiiipeeedeee!
doesn't work with 3.13.161.3, has anybody some more ideas?

[Q] Jelly Bean Official Update and root

So I rooted/unlocked bootloader etc..., but dragged my feet on installing custom ROM's. So i see that Rogers One X is getting an official Jelly Bean update. I am on AT&T so I would assume that the AT&T update is coming soon. Do I need to unroot so I don't risk bricking my phone or will the OTA update work anyway?

yeah man, you need to unroot, get back stock recovery and relock bootloader then use the correct RUU,.
it sounds like alot to do but it really is just a few fastboot commants and letting the RUU run its course, there is many guides but i think you are in the wrong forum, do you have the international one X or the dual core version?
if you have the dual core version then the correct guide for you will be here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1538
Can you point me to a guide for this for the international HOX? I'm running into an issue with the last part, it fails when trying to update. Thanks!
Thanks for that info and yep in the wrong forum. Didn't realize the forums were specific to carrier. :0
thanks again,

Sent like a boss from my HTC one X

Just got a unlocked G2 dont want to brick it ..Help

I know the G2 is a old phone , but I decided to get one anyway. I alwatay a generation behind in phones it per and since Im prepaid , I think it makes more sense.
Anyway I have been looking a few youtube videos and some of the old threads on here. Please dont blast me too bad, but I was wondering if I should root my phone since it is already unlocked?
Here are the phone stats
Android Version
2.3.4
Baseband version
12.62.60.27U_26.13.04.19_M
Kernel version
2.6.35.10-g96de068
[email protected]#1
Build Number
2.16.531.5CL159515 release-keys
Now the last phone I rooted and played around with was a Kiaser a few years ago. That was wayyyyyy easier than these new threads. So my noobie questions are this
1. should I try to root a phone already unlocked?
2. how can I root a phone? What I mean is most of the stuff in the old threads aren't avaliable is some places anymore
3. is there a thread I can start at on how to do the procedure?
would appreciate any help
Nevermind found what I think will work http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1789579

yes you should root it asap.
If you have a bad emmc chip, it wont boot when it'll fail.
If you are rooted, you could run the os on the sd.

Good luck on rooting your phone!
