[Q] Amazon Official Pluto.TV App -- SD only video feed? - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Been using Pluto.tv for a long time with phone/chromecast and with the firetv...the actual amazon version on the firetv.
Noticed today that the firetv version of pluto.tv seems to be pulling SD content and I see no way to change it -- more than enough downstream, reinstalled the app, still same..... anybody else noticed this or have any ideas?

Amazon Instant Video App?

I'm wondering if this will have an app for Amazon Instant Video since it is one of the advertised features. If it does, would it be possible to port it to other Android devices? Right now the only way to watch Amazon Instant Video on an Android device is to spoof a desktop user agent and use flash player. While this method works, it would be a lot easier to have a native app, especially with flash player being discontinued.
APK (ATVAndroidCleint.apk) is Posted:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19409230&postcount=10
Works on unrooted Gingerbread devices and force closes on Honeycomb/ICS when you try to go to a video's page. On rooted devices you'll need to install OTA Rootkeeper then force close and re-open the video app. You can also freeze/defrost it with Titanium Backup.
Option #1 to Log in to Your Amazon Account:
Open the Amazon video app and find a video you want to watch. Tap the orange box to buy the video and log in with your Amazon account. Once logged in the prices in the orange boxes should adjust if you have Prime and you'll be able to watch videos. If you get an "Error Linking Device" proceed to option #2.
Option #2 to Log in to Your Amazon Account:
From a Kindle Fire ROM dump obtain and install MyAccount-unsigned.apk and com.amazon.dcp.apk. The files in this post should work even though its not a complete ROM dump. Now you can associate your Amazon account with your device just like you would a Google, etc account. From Settings, Accounts you should be able to add an Amazon account. Now go back into the Amazon video app and you should already be logged in and able to watch videos.
If you still get a "Your device is no longer configured correctly to play Amazon videos" error try restarting your device after you temp unroot with OTA Rootkeeper. Some devices, usually running CM roms have had issues with the error even after temp unrooting.
My understanding is that it will play instant video, although idk what app will do it.
Soon after mine arrives, I'll update?

Its built into the device.. so I doubt it.

When flash is discontinued, you won't lose your ability to view video. more than likely, they will replace it with HTML5. As long as thy don't go to Silverlight, you should be OK.
Ditto, though about the native app. Why hasn't amazon released this type of app?
Yeah, popped over to see if there was an apk for it to try on other devices. Would definitely want to give it a shot.
There is a native Amazon Video app on the Fire. The apk installed and ran fine on my Nexus S (although the layout was a bit wonky). The problem that I encountered is that there is no way to sign in to your account from the app.

Where is the apk?
Can you post the apk. Myself and others would be interested even if it doesn't work yet. Perhaps there is another app or service needed to get you logged into Amazon similar to porting android market to devices that don't have it. I also read that Amazon is releasing their source if that makes things easier. You'd think they would release Instant Video as an app but it is a selling point of the fire.
The apk is in system/app, and is called "ATVAndroidClient.apk"
here is the ATVAndroidClient.apk......havent tried it yet.
FC's when trying to watch movies, or view help. Must be due to sign in as mentioned previously. May need the accounts and sync apk installed.....
Looks nice though.
fwiw, post-rooting, myself and a couple others are no longer able to instant stream a video...

Sweet, and it works on the Droid 3.
What I did was tapped on an orange $1.99 button to buy an episode of a show. This brought up the Amazon login window and I logged into my Amazon account. Now that I'm logged in, it knows I have Prime Instant Videos for free so it lets me view everything.
There are some messed up parts of the GUI due to it only supporting the Kindle's resolution. I also noticed that once the on screen controls disappear during a video there is no way to get them back. I have to press the back button on my phone to exit back to the app, but luckily the app keeps your place, allowing you to resume.
Overall it is good enough to be usable, I watched a few minutes of Top Gear and Lost on it just fine. Both the Droid 3, Bionic, Razr, etc and the Kindle Fire have TI OMAP 4430, not sure if this has to do with anything.
EDIT:
Doesn't appear to work over 3G. You can browse videos but get the error "Playback over cellular network is currently disabled"

Yeah, I tried it on my Inc 2 and had more success....my first attempt was on honeycomb.
Wasn't able to log in. network error. Will try on wifi....
Definitely looked better on my tablet, so probably ideal for gingerbread tab.

It won't work over 3G for me, it wants wifi. It will be better on a tablet I'm sure, some of the things like the search box, etc feel a little small on a 4" screen, but its still a lot easier than using a browser.
If you got it working on your Incredible 2 then it may not actually be GPU sensitive. Maybe this will end up working on a wide variety of devices. Makes you wonder if Amazon will release a version to the general public.

Yeah, got it working on my A100, but agian...honeycomb. FC's arent unfamiliar. Inc 2, I got as far as the login screen, but got "an error has occured, please try again" on wifi and 3G. Could be an account issue though.
Hopefully someone that knows what they are doing can get it to work properly.
Glad you got it working.
I can install but when try to purchase I get this. I am rooted maybe that why.
Sent from my HTC Sensation running Digitalized 0.7
That was what I had experienced on the Xoom w/ the Google Market for Movie Rentals.
It let's you rent them and they show up in Videos. But you can't watch them if you're rooted. You have to watch them through a browser.

Apparently this app checks for root and gives this error even on the Kindle if rooted. The solution is to temporarily unroot with an app, details at this link:
http://phandroid.com/2011/11/16/rooting-kindle-fire-breaks-amazon-video-and-how-to-make-it-work/
I installed on my Bionic (currently removed the root while waiting for that update to show up) and it looked ok, a few graphic issues.
I tried to login, but it came back with a message to check my WiFi connection.

Rooted Kindle Stock ROM - Not showing books.

I am not sure if this is where I should be making this post.
So I got my Kindle Fire rooted sometime around Nov. I installed Google Apps on it and was using GoLauncherEx. Sometimes I switch between the two launcher apps.
As of today morning, I noticed that none of the books I have purchased from Amazon are showing up. There is also a book that I had transferred over from USB that is not showing. When I click on the Cloud option, nothing shows up in that view either.
The other apps on the Kindle Fire are working. I am able to play with apps downloaded from Google Play as well as apps from Amazon Market.
The root explorer app allows me to read the contents of my SD card. I am able to view photos that I have on my SD card.
So my puzzle is "Where are my books and documents?" How can I get them back?
I found this happening to me once. It was fixed after I reflashed my ROM (using one of the rooted-but-otherwise-stock ROMs available)- all the files showed up.
Quick note: This might be the wrong place to be posting about a problem like the one you're encountering, it would probably be better in general.

I did a factory reset. All my top scores (angry birds and hungry shark) have disappeared, but that's the least of my worries.
I am unable to root the device anymore.
All I want is google play side by side with amazon market.

Thanks. I have already factory reset my Kindle. Now I need to start the rooting process again.
Books disappear
Just use Titanium to restore Kindle Fire app. All books will return.

[SOLVED] Anyone get Prime Music working under 8.4.3?

Update: I figured out a solution -- see message #4 below
I'd really like to get Amazon's new Prime Music service working on my 8.9" Fire HD. However, I'm currently on 8.4.3, and I don't want to upgrade to 8.4.9 since some people have reported difficulty rooting it.
Has anyone done this? I suspect that if I could just get my hands on the new version of com.amazon.mp3 for the Fire HD, I could get it to work. However, the version at the Google Play store doesn't work with the Kindle Fire.
Before I spend hours trying to get this work, I wanted to ask if anyone has already traversed this rat hole.

I've also been wondering about this. Any luck getting it to work? Have you tried downloading the update from the Amazon website and taking the amazonmp3-unsigned.apk from there and putting it on the kindle? The update has a .bin extension but it's probably just a zip. I was able to open it in 7-zip and it looks an android update.zip file.

I did something similar: I got my hands on a Tate, updated it, and then pulled amazonmp3-unsigned.apk off of it. I uninstalled the existing system app on my Jem, verified that I couldn't go into music, and then installed the new APK.
Result: it doesn't provide Prime benefits, but does allow me to access the my non-Prime music. I don't know if that's because of some other necessary component, or because the new APK includes a check to see whether the Kindle has been rooted. I know that some of Amazon's Kindle software has incorporated such checks in the past.
I figured out a solution to get it working. I should have thought of it earlier.
I uninstalled the amazonmp3-unsigned.apk system app using ES File Explorer. I then used Google Play to install the new com.amazon.mp3 APK as a user app. Somehow I had gotten it stuck in my head that it would need to be a system app to work with the rest of the Kindle software. Duh.
It seems to work perfectly. I can access Prime music just fine, and it seamlessly connects to my Amazon account. The only downside is that the app from the Play store is designed for phones and locks the app into portrait mode, whereas the native Kindle version supports landscape. But, hey, that's a small price to pay.
Amazon is clearly checking to see if the tablet is still an unmodified Kindle Fire.
I tried loading Kindle Reader on a CM-upgraded KF, with no luck. Then, I used Build-Prop Editor to change the property 'name' to Asus, and the 'model' to Nexus 7. That's all it took for Kindle Reader (and my book account) to work properly.
Try that next time something 'Amazon' doesn't work as it should.
When you install using google play does that automatically install as a user app? I'm assuming so, but the fix isn't working for me. I am using 8.1.4 however.

Yes, the Play store will only install user apps. You uninstalled amazonmp3-unsigned.apk first?
Is the app not working at all, or not giving you access to Prime Music? I wonder if enough changed from 8.1.x to 8.4.x that the services for Amazon account authentication don't work.

Yeah, the first thing I did was just update the app using google play before I even read this thread. Weird thing is it opens and acts just like it should untampered. Landscape mode, automatically logged me in and all. But as soons as I try to access the library it shuts down. So I uninstalled back to stock amazon music using google play, uninstalled that system app using ES, and then installed fresh using google play. And it does the exact same thing. Landscape mode enabled, auto sign in. Acting like an amazon app.

I'd recommend that you uninstall again, and verify that the app is really uninstalled. I was able to get my tablet to a point where I had no MP3 player installed at all, and going to the Music tab from the Kindle launcher would result in an error. If you uninstall and still see this app, then there must still be a copy of the APK installed somewhere you're not seeing it.
I wish I could help with more details, but I no longer have the stock OS installed, and am now using Cyanogenmod. Prime Instant Video was the main reason I was keeping the stock OS, and now that's available for Android generally.
Yeah, after I uninstalled the app using ES but before installing a fresh copy, hitting music resulted in an error. ..and I didn't back up the original file. Lol. Not that I had any music there anyway. But yeah, I hear you on CM. I would be using that too, but it's my wife's main tablet and she likes the kindle lending library. Now if they put that on android, there would be essentially no reason to ever use the FireOs again.

Final Fantasy IV Cloud Saves... any way to get it to work with Fire Phone?

Hello,
Amazon just recently patched their Final Fantasy apps to have cloud saves between devices. I haven't been able to get it to work on my Fire phone. When I try to get it to save from in the game, all I get is a "loading" screen and nothing happens. It seems to try to access my Google account on the device.
My phone is not rooted but I have Google Play sideloaded and everything else seems to be working. I have gmail as well as other apps loaded without issues from the Google Play store. If I try creating a new Google account or manually linking my already active account from within the cloud save in-game it says it has problems connecting with the Google Servers.
Has anyone had this issue before? I heard Amazon is probably discontinuing the phone so my hopes of a new patch rolling out just for this phone have pretty much diminished...
Thanks.
Did you ever find a solution? I'm having the same issue running on lg g2 using cm12.1. Doesn't want to connect to the Google drive just stays on loading screen. My Firetv connects and saves no problem.

Unfortunately, no. It's irritating. It's such a long game I really don't want to start over on another device.

New 5.2.6.0 update blocks all free app content on my Fire TV

The new 5.2.6.0 update was pushed out to my FireTV on Saturday morning and I've been unable to run YouTube, PBS, NBC, and Amazon Prime programming since then. All my paid apps are running fine so far - Hulu, Netflix, HBO Now - but when I try to load anything from the free apps, I get kicked back a screen or two and nothing loads.
I have one of the original Fire TV boxes as I bought it in April 2014 and it's worked great since I bought it. I was on the phone for over an hour yesterday trying to get some help from their techs but nothing worked including a complete factory reset. Something in this update is blocking access to my free apps programming.
I understand that I'm supposed to be seeing more advertising but that's missing too. I was told at the end of my tech support conversation to buy another box because the warranty has obviously run out, but of course, they stopped selling the boxes several weeks ago and I'm stuck with a box that only works for half of what we used to watch.
Any suggestions for my next step? TIA!

I'm not from the US, but I'm pretty this is sounding like some sort of cache bug.
Try going to each individual app in settings and clearing cache and data; if this doesn't solve it, then I would remove the app and reinstall it.
If this doesn't work, I'd try deregistering your Amazon account in settings with the applications stated removed; then registering again, this may refresh the app store's data.
Lastly, try a factory reset of the Fire TV; this is a last resort.
Ok so i have same issues the main one being allcast i cannot stream to tv from phone or kindle hd the firestick just tells me to install allcast on firestick... i have also factory reset and still the same issues telling me to install the app... tryed on my old firestick not updated to 5.2.6.0 and all app are working fine
Uk user
Um. For those of you with the app store problems, does syncing your Amazon account fix this?
This is if you cannot download applications
Go to: Settings > My Account > Sync Amazon Content
What if you install the app from the browser interface on your laptop.

Try to install it remotely from the Amazon site, and choose to deliver it to the Fire stick you want. If it doesn't try to sync your account.
I doubt the application being installed is at issue, I believe there is some sort of configuration issue for you with the app. I don't use AllCast, so I can't help you there
This application has stopped working since the 21st September on newer released firmwares, the application developer will need to fix the issue with newer firmwares for AllCast.
This could be correlated with the issues others have; I doubt there has been major API changes.
Ok thanks i appreciate the reply regarding allcast app guess i just have to wait for an update and try it again..

I did all of this during my phone conversation with tech support, plus I had removed and reinstalled those apps prior to calling in with my problem. We did the deregistering/reregistering my account and then we did a full factory reset, which also didn't work. Is it possible that I have a corrupt install of this update? And could tech support remove the new version and knock it back to the previous one?
Interesting questions. I've had YouTube freezing after a few minutes, since the update. I'll do a clear cache/data as see if that resolves it. If not a new YT install.
I spoke with tech support last night because I reported this issue to them about 10 days ago and I wanted an update. The guy told me there was a master ticket in the system regarding this issue. It sounds like the new update triggered an hdcp error in certain apps. Like the OP, all my payed apps work but non of my amazon or free apps.
