Rooted Kindle Stock ROM - Not showing books. - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am not sure if this is where I should be making this post.
So I got my Kindle Fire rooted sometime around Nov. I installed Google Apps on it and was using GoLauncherEx. Sometimes I switch between the two launcher apps.
As of today morning, I noticed that none of the books I have purchased from Amazon are showing up. There is also a book that I had transferred over from USB that is not showing. When I click on the Cloud option, nothing shows up in that view either.
The other apps on the Kindle Fire are working. I am able to play with apps downloaded from Google Play as well as apps from Amazon Market.
The root explorer app allows me to read the contents of my SD card. I am able to view photos that I have on my SD card.
So my puzzle is "Where are my books and documents?" How can I get them back?

I found this happening to me once. It was fixed after I reflashed my ROM (using one of the rooted-but-otherwise-stock ROMs available)- all the files showed up.
Quick note: This might be the wrong place to be posting about a problem like the one you're encountering, it would probably be better in general.

I did a factory reset. All my top scores (angry birds and hungry shark) have disappeared, but that's the least of my worries.
I am unable to root the device anymore.
All I want is google play side by side with amazon market.

Thanks. I have already factory reset my Kindle. Now I need to start the rooting process again.

Books disappear
Just use Titanium to restore Kindle Fire app. All books will return.

[Q] Lost Access to Newsstand/Home Bar persistent with GoLauncher after 6.3

Hi Guys. First off, what an awesome community! I check in often and enjoy learning new stuff about my device. I'm not really having issues with the root itself. Since I got the fire back in December my roots have gone flawlessly and I've fully enjoyed the freedom of a rooted KF.
I am noticing that I'm losing access to the Amazon Store newsstand. It wouldn't be so much of an issue if my wife didn't use it to access her mag subscriptions. It's telling me error "Cannot Update Library. Unable to Access Internet." when I try to open Glamour app for example. I am connected to the web of course. Her other subscriptions are not showing up either in her list of subs.
Also, (ive tried reinstalling a couple times, lame! losing all my UI setup of golauncher as a result. lol) when using GoLauncher, the Home/Back bar is persistent and doesn't go away. When I activate the stock Kindle UI though, the bar hides itself as it should.
Any suggestions as to why the newsstand subscriptions wont show/internet error/go launcher stuff?
Hey, thanks for everything! I re-rooted after 6.3 using KF tool and root explorer tells me i have access. Am able to switch to/from R/O & R/W.. KF tool tells me its rooted. I am able to use everything normally, just these two glitches.
Thanks !!!!!! Great job with the forums and site, im hooked up device hacking now and i appreciate the forum for this type of stuff! peace!!!
now if i can only master the english language
i guess i should rephraise the question..
now im noticing after flashing that suddenly my wife's books/magazines and tv shows will completely disappear from the device? any idea how to prevent this from happening?
Hey, a lot of problems with opening tabs on the kindle fire stock look is having to due with the changing of the app in the system file. Using root explorer or similar, go into system/app and reinstall kindle for otter, and or any other app that could have the slightest relation to the newsstand.

I was trying to identify which of those could be related...I will follow your lead... ducks I want to keep root but lose access to her puchssed videos (big surprise) and all subscriptions...since 6.3 (Moravia mod) I could not access ant mag suns at all...keeps being broke by whet I assumming is some check script by amazon
Thats a bit more advanced than i know how to fix haha, once yoh try my method, if it doesnt work, i wont know what else to do. Good luck mate

Once, I had similar problems.
I lost access to all my books at one point, plus the kindle asked me to re-register the device. The kindle market looked totally different as well - all this while i was UNrooted.
It turns out, after I rooted and installed the google market/ framework, (and unrooted), the market took it upon itself to update all my apps including audible and the kindle fire app.
This pretty much neuters anything you had installed as 'yours' from amazon. If you have google play installed, check these apps in the my apps section and uninstall any updates. This will fix the issue.
Also as others have said, root will disable amazon videos, I dont know if it has the same effect on purchased books.

Hey Bruddah!! Good call. I turned off the update and reinstalled otter for kindle and resynced and voila! Started syncing and downloading my wife's subscriptions from amazon! Kudos bro!!
I flashed ICS (for me) and then flashed back to my wife's kindle kfu rooted 6.3 (229 i think) and the subs were broken again but all i needed to do was reinstall that apk and it was back. nice work thank you very much. you deserve a beer
also as long as i unroot with rootkeeper and restart i can run amazon video too. very nice.

[Q] HELP! Rooted Kindle Fire HD 8.9' had a virus take over my OS

Ok, so in a matter of 12 (or so) hours I have had a virus completely take over my Kindle. I recently got it rooted (I am totally new to all of this, so I didnt know to install root protection or anything like that for that matter)
I was looking on a third party app market (i forget which one) when I get a notification saying candy crush and some other apps need to be updated. I decide to update candy crush at about 10pm last night. After it started downloading I got a weird feeling about the app. One of the permissions was weird, it had no explanation of what it did and then there wasnt an easy way to cancel the download, also the download itself was also taking a really long time.
The permission was something like permissions/grant access/cd2a or something. I tried to look it up while the app was downloading, but nothing came of it.
A few hours later I was looking through ES File Explorer and noticed weird files in there. The first one I noticed was called "Dont Panic" with nothing in it, from then I realized there were files all over my kindle that I didnt put there. Random files with html/xml text were all over, I asked my boyfriend who knows more about this than I do to take a look and try to decipher what was going on. He went into the system tuner app I had on it and saw that every single app (whether it be system or user or lower) on my device was accessed and had something done to it. We even saw a few different series of pre written scripts and instruction manuals of how to embed task commands, among other things.
We deleted everything we could, stopped all the tasks that were going but had no idea what to make of it all. We spent most of the time trying to figure out the root of the virus to no avail. They turned the wifi off and on, they de and re-registered my kindle, I now have parental locks I have no idea the password to...whatever the virus is took over my operating system.
We did a factory reset on it hoping that might do something, or that we had deleted enough of the virus for it not to be able to work, but nope.
I followed the step by step instructions that are in the other forum kindle fire first aide, hoping it may bootload into a different software version the virus doesnt know, but when i hooked it up to the computer it just turned on like normal. Hooking it up to the computer i realized it has a whole different operating system and completely different serial number, on the kindle it says the normal system version and serial number.
I dont know, this thread is getting long and i dont have a lot of technical details. basically, the kindle still turns on and acts like it functions, but its just a shell operating system. I deleted a huge zip file off it (it should still be on my computer :/) when i hooked it to my computer hoping that was it, but it didnt do anything.
It can go online, but cant download apps because any log in for amazon you use doesnt work. It also seems that I have no permission or access to anything on it when its hooked up via usb cable. i dont even think the kindle fire first aide recognized it as the kindle device when I tried to bootload it.
I dunno. This is my last ditch effort to see if theres anything i can do to get any operating system onto my tablet.
I have my kindle...I have my computer theres tons of software out there...this cant just be it can it??? there has to be a way to get it back! i dont care if its a kindle or not.
Oh, and i didnt have any important files on there, so im not worried about that aspect, I just dont want to lose my tablet.
Please help!!!!!
That's odd. For it to be able to de- and re-register your kindle, the "virus" must have been specifically tailored to take over kindles.

Just reflash the system partition using kindle fire first aid in the kindle fire general 7" section. That should fix it I think considering the factory reset should a have cleared /data. You may have to search for it since its a separate sub forum than hdx.

It seemed like they were remotely accessing my device and we could see the files change but by that time it was too late.
when we were looking at the system tuner event logs we could see that each app had been accessed and altered individually.
I didnt realize I posted in the Kindle HDX forum, my bad. If someone can move this, thats fine? I dont know if i can do that.

When I connect it to the computer it comes up as a 'media device' named Kindle.
This is what is under the properties
Model Name: Kindle (Can be typed in)
Manufacturer: Amazon
Firmware Version 1.0
Serial Number:B0C9100424730E5D
Powered Source: Battery
Then it shows 12.0 GB free of 12.7 of Internal Memory.
Within that there are a few files (named android, book, image cache, music movies, audible, pictures, etc) with basically nothing in them.
Two pictures of the cover of the oxford dictionary that i noted.
This is definitely not right...
I think those files and folders come stock with android, I have those folders on mine, though I did flash to cm but the sdcard I believe had those before.

They arent the stock files. The kindle or virus seems like its hiding the operating system. did you read my post? When I connect my kindle to the computer all i can see or access is what my kindle is calling the internal memory. what i can see on my internal memory is about 10-15 files that are generically named and empty other than one that has two pictures of a cover of an oxford dictionary. does that sound normal? i cant register my kindle, the whole thing that i have as far as a UI is not actually amazon, it re routes me to amazons so called websites that you can tell are not authentic.
also, i have no access to the parental controls. i just cant even get into them at all.
I suggest just to reflash the system partition if you think it has a virus or something, it would return to stock rooted and should be virus free, if u wanna factory reset it before hand and wipe all the data u can do that too, also I recommend installing something like avast antivirus, though I recently got rid of it to free up about 100 mb of ram if I remember right. Kinda curious how you got a virus, the only virus I have ever even detected was a rooting exploit for gingerbread, so technically it was a false-positive.

[SOLVED] Anyone get Prime Music working under 8.4.3?

Update: I figured out a solution -- see message #4 below
I'd really like to get Amazon's new Prime Music service working on my 8.9" Fire HD. However, I'm currently on 8.4.3, and I don't want to upgrade to 8.4.9 since some people have reported difficulty rooting it.
Has anyone done this? I suspect that if I could just get my hands on the new version of com.amazon.mp3 for the Fire HD, I could get it to work. However, the version at the Google Play store doesn't work with the Kindle Fire.
Before I spend hours trying to get this work, I wanted to ask if anyone has already traversed this rat hole.

I've also been wondering about this. Any luck getting it to work? Have you tried downloading the update from the Amazon website and taking the amazonmp3-unsigned.apk from there and putting it on the kindle? The update has a .bin extension but it's probably just a zip. I was able to open it in 7-zip and it looks an android update.zip file.

I did something similar: I got my hands on a Tate, updated it, and then pulled amazonmp3-unsigned.apk off of it. I uninstalled the existing system app on my Jem, verified that I couldn't go into music, and then installed the new APK.
Result: it doesn't provide Prime benefits, but does allow me to access the my non-Prime music. I don't know if that's because of some other necessary component, or because the new APK includes a check to see whether the Kindle has been rooted. I know that some of Amazon's Kindle software has incorporated such checks in the past.
I figured out a solution to get it working. I should have thought of it earlier.
I uninstalled the amazonmp3-unsigned.apk system app using ES File Explorer. I then used Google Play to install the new com.amazon.mp3 APK as a user app. Somehow I had gotten it stuck in my head that it would need to be a system app to work with the rest of the Kindle software. Duh.
It seems to work perfectly. I can access Prime music just fine, and it seamlessly connects to my Amazon account. The only downside is that the app from the Play store is designed for phones and locks the app into portrait mode, whereas the native Kindle version supports landscape. But, hey, that's a small price to pay.
Amazon is clearly checking to see if the tablet is still an unmodified Kindle Fire.
I tried loading Kindle Reader on a CM-upgraded KF, with no luck. Then, I used Build-Prop Editor to change the property 'name' to Asus, and the 'model' to Nexus 7. That's all it took for Kindle Reader (and my book account) to work properly.
Try that next time something 'Amazon' doesn't work as it should.
When you install using google play does that automatically install as a user app? I'm assuming so, but the fix isn't working for me. I am using 8.1.4 however.

Yes, the Play store will only install user apps. You uninstalled amazonmp3-unsigned.apk first?
Is the app not working at all, or not giving you access to Prime Music? I wonder if enough changed from 8.1.x to 8.4.x that the services for Amazon account authentication don't work.

Yeah, the first thing I did was just update the app using google play before I even read this thread. Weird thing is it opens and acts just like it should untampered. Landscape mode, automatically logged me in and all. But as soons as I try to access the library it shuts down. So I uninstalled back to stock amazon music using google play, uninstalled that system app using ES, and then installed fresh using google play. And it does the exact same thing. Landscape mode enabled, auto sign in. Acting like an amazon app.

I'd recommend that you uninstall again, and verify that the app is really uninstalled. I was able to get my tablet to a point where I had no MP3 player installed at all, and going to the Music tab from the Kindle launcher would result in an error. If you uninstall and still see this app, then there must still be a copy of the APK installed somewhere you're not seeing it.
I wish I could help with more details, but I no longer have the stock OS installed, and am now using Cyanogenmod. Prime Instant Video was the main reason I was keeping the stock OS, and now that's available for Android generally.
Yeah, after I uninstalled the app using ES but before installing a fresh copy, hitting music resulted in an error. ..and I didn't back up the original file. Lol. Not that I had any music there anyway. But yeah, I hear you on CM. I would be using that too, but it's my wife's main tablet and she likes the kindle lending library. Now if they put that on android, there would be essentially no reason to ever use the FireOs again.

This is the full message I get:
The layout you specified doesn't exist for this page.

I used Mayday on the phone & got a technician online. He tried hard, but could not solve the problem, asked me to reset to factory defaults which I had done already, so re-did.
Still the problem persists.
I can access apps installation using other shortcuts, but all main menus of app headers section give a blank page with that message.
Technician promised he will call back, but did not.
Debugging -
Creating then using a new Amazon account yields a working Appstore app.
So the problem is with the original account I hold with Amazon.
Technicians from Amazon have no clue as to how to fix this, & referred me to the Appstore team, who will get back to me in a few days... LOL!
Having that problem too. First it worked, but one day stopped working on both phones I have. Well, at least I have Google store working.
Solved - Appstore app fix (for me)
Only geeks & nerds would obsess about getting an app to work until it does - either way, it is fixed, the Appstore app on my Amazon Fire phone -
I downloaded the latest stock rom, put it in the sdcard, rebooted to the recover menu (Vol+ & off switch), chose adb side load, force switched off...
After switching back on, the stock rom bin file was deleted from sdcard, & the Amazon Fire phone Appstore app was fixed.
I kept a copy of the latest stock rom just in case.
I gather there was file corruption, & the system recovered itself by using what was needed from the rom.
