Dude, seriously? If you don't see what's wrong with your question then you shouldn't be playing
with those things. Lot's of reading and learning must you do, hmmm?
Yoda
okay, slightly dickish answer sorry.
you need certain abilities enabled at the kernel/driver level for some of the things you want
to do. which maybe be as relatively simple as patching kernel source and rebuilding or may require
rev-eng'ing proprietary drivers/binaries additionally.
you may be better served to researched a device more naturally endowed with these capabilities,
alternately a device with usb-otg support so you can use a dongle device proven to be
capable of these tasks.
ommmm
So because i used custom rom, this apps does not working?

sort of yes/no because the custom rom contains the software and the kernel is a custom build
it does not necessarily mean that your hardware is capable [meaning the device's capability, the kernel
having the necessary code and if there are proprietary/prebuilt source code unavailable/ binaries and firmware
support files which need to be hacked/engineered.
find out the device id of your wifi hardware and search it's id/name along with the function you are trying to perform.
for example
bcm4334 monitor mode
use the search engine that works for you, read carefully and fully and get yourself trained to follow trails of related/seemingly related
information, no matter how obscure.
good luck, may the schwartz be with you ! :silly:

Hi Guys, I thought I would make a thread here as i can not seem to be able to find a solution. Rooted my device obviously, everything is fine until I installed a "Kernel" (cant remember author) to overclock mainly then encountered several problems. 1: Wi-Fi has become unstable. It seems to either crash my phone or signal disappears after my phone is on standby for a period of time (variable). 2: My Bluetooth just does not work. At all!! I have not done anything more to my device so the solution (hopefully). I forgot to mention that it is STOCK ROM. I do not wish to wipe my phone clean, i want to find a fix. Possibly a more stable kernel. Overclocking does not want to happen either but the "Governor's, I/O Scheduler's and Underclocking" do work. If there is anything more you guys need to know please ask!!
Looking forward to ideas

It not the root that causing the issue, it the kernel that tried. If I remember correctly there's only two kernel for the S4 mini that allows overclcoking, and one of them has stopped developerment since last year. That leaves the F4k kernel.
He has two different kernels: one for the AOSP/CM (custom) ROM another is also a bit outdated for the default Samsung TouchWiz ROM. Are you sure you've download the correct kernel?

Well to my knowledge I had used the correct kernel....... I never used one from here but I did find a website claiming that F4k has a stock over clocking kernel...... Unfortunately for the life of me I can not find this website. I've managed to overclock with success using a apk. I found on here (performance control) brilliant tool!! Is there any chance you able to post a link to this stock kernel you talk about so I can test myself and report back? Everything else is working without a problem apart from Wi-Fi and bluetooth.

So I've come to a conclusion after many weeks of testing and searching........ Unfortunately the overclock kernel for "TouchWiz" roms is unstable........ looking through forums I can see that F4k has only realised a "test" version....... on the other hand I have found a kernel from Vikinger (if spelt correctly) that's has fixed my issue and is working great... shame it isn't overclocked nor under and has no additional governors..... any one with ideas please feel free to share..... many thanks.

Hi,
I'm new here (hallo @all) as I'd like to install CM on my Tab3 8.0" mainly because of the privacy-settings (have to use some apps who requiere more Rights than they need, 3rd-party-tools are not working, but my Xperia running CM can block unnecessary Access-Requests without distrubing the functionality of the App)
So actually I'm not sure if I should give the CM12 a chance (or try CM11) as Images can be found in the Development-Thread...
I'd need following things working:
Wireless
Bluetooth
Frontcamera (for Skype)
SD-Card (as I've read threads mentioning problems with ext. SDCards)
(Video-Playback from DLNA-Sources (and/or from SD-Card) would be great)
and as a must:
Privacy-Settings (readjust app-Entitlements) must be running...
...everything else working is great, of course (especially no big(ger) drain on Batterylife than with stockROM)...
...reading this - which ROM would you recommend me?
Shall I give gr8nole's CM12 a chance or are other Images more suitable for my requirements?
Thanks for your answers and sorry if I should have posted in the wrong Section...
Cheers,

This is my first time to root a tablet. I have successfully rooted my Samsung Galaxy tab 3 7 (SM-T210R). But know I dont know were to go from here. I see posted about removing bloats from the system, and overclocking but not sure what I should do. Any suggestions, I was leaning toward installing CM11 but have not took that leap yet.
Thanks gr8nole for the hours you have spent programing for us novice guys.
I checked several of the threads in the various subforums but since I am currently really busy (have the phone for 3 weeks and I am not using it cause had no time to check XDA ) if you are kind enough I have some questions that spending more time in the threads would probably answer themselves but alas...
A: If I root the G3 can I bring it back to stock without any indication it got rooted (I heard some phones have special logs that show if a phone has been rooted that survive the various flashes), in case I need to send it for service?
B: Should I go with the root method shown on XDA TV (which doesn't show how to install a custom recovery) or one of the one click auto batch scripts?
C: I think generally this question is not allowed cause it can lead to flame but which ROM would you recommend I try first? I need just a clean, smooth running ROM. Disclaimer: Avoid arguing with other users if you disagree with something they said, just state the ROM and if you want your reason for picking it and I will scroll through them and decide.
Much obliged if you care to answer them and apologies to mods if this breaks any rules.

A: You can always go back to stock using LG flash tool with no evidence of rooting nor like samsung's knox
B: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3072767
C: I personally use resurrection remix rom based on CM12 due to performance but if you want fully working G3 with no bugs at all I recommend my favorite rom CupaChups 4.2. Super fast stock base rom with some extra features.
P.S. I recommend you to instal Kernel Adiutor from the play store after you root your G3 and change the governor from default Interactive to Conservative. Cos from some unknown reasons the Interactive governor is bugged on all G3 and changing that will highly increase your performance speed and feel. This works with base and aosp roms also.
Hope this helps

Thank you, is there a problem if the phone is already on stock 5.0? Can I still root it with the same methods or must I restore it to 4.4.x? (A simple restore to factory blabla does it?)

If you have a look around there's a one click method that works for all G3 variants regardless of software version that is here on the forums. You can use that, download the zip for your desired custom rom, install a custom recovery and then flash the ROM and you should be good to go. There's plenty of guides for you to use, and each custom rom thread should have it's own installation guide

Hi,
So, cm-13 is very unlikely on our device, but i'll take a look anyway (a slow look as my time is very limited).
Here you'll find my "work" and "help requests".
First, for sure i didn't "worked" on a lot of device, but it's the first one i have with a dedicated partition to the kernel dts.
Code:
/dev/block/platform/hi_mci.0/by-name/dts /dts emmc defaults recoveryonly
+/dev/block/platform/hi_mci.0/by-name/boot /boot emmc defaults recoveryonly
+/dev/block/platform/hi_mci.0/by-name/recovery /recovery emmc defaults recoveryonly
+/dev/block/platform/hi_mci.0/by-name/misc /misc emmc defaults recoveryonly
+/dev/block/platform/hi_mci.0/by-name/modem /modem emmc defaults recoveryonly
+/dev/block/platform/hi_mci.0/by-name/modem_dsp /modem_dsp emmc defaults recoveryonly
+/dev/block/platform/hi_mci.0/by-name/sensorhub /sensorhub emmc defaults recoveryonly
- I wonder if the dts, which is kernel dependent, could be the major problem to get a custom rom version (kk, jb, mm), or even a stock huawei rom, to work from any base rom. I'll try to make some experiment soon.
- I did sync cm-13, and "of course" have cwm recovery working. But whatever i'm trying i can't get screen output on twrp 3.0. Does someone have a clue on this?
- @gabry3795 , do you still have the device ? I would be happy to get your hangout/google nickname if you have any to sometime talk about this device. @codeworkx is of course also welcome for any advice. By the way your cm12.0 github repo (codeworkx) doesn't seem's to be up to date, even if i understand that's it's in a non-working state.

As I understand there are some crucial files / source codes that Huawei is refusing to release to the public. This alone sounds super dodgy, because isn't Android supposed to be open source? Or can companies "own" a custom version of Android and do this sort of thing?
These files are crucial for creating custom kernels and ROMs, as they have to do with (once again, this is how I interpreted it) how the device handles the CPU and GPU.
Basically, while it is possible to install other ROMs on the device, they'll have to be based on EMUI and its kernels, because it is the only thing that contains these files necessary to make the device run, which makes the entire exercise pointless because EMUI is s*** no matter what form it takes.
I wonder if it wouldn't be possible to simply "extract" this necessary code from the stock kernels / ROMs and implement it in a custom one? I do not know even the slightest thing about programming, so I could just be sounding like an idiot.

i too have wondered about this. im sure its possible but it might be far to difficult an endeavor because if it weren't, someone would have attempted it by now. i really miss my nexus 5 with all its custom roms. i suggest that all mate 7 owners get in contact with huawei and demand they comply with the android user agreement. they are technically supposed to give up sources. we could fight, but not unless we unite.
Yes we can! Yes we can! Yes we can!

You're right, extracting stock binary files is an essential part of roms porting but some important files can't be inherited because they are strictly hardware-related, therefore you have to compile the original android source and then "patch" that files for the specific GPU/CPU (starting from android 5 lollipop) with other files given by the vendor of the phone.

But isn't that the entire problem, the "other files" that have to be supplied by the vendor? Huawei is refusing to release them, and therefore making it impossible to develop custom ROM's.
Or are you saying that it is possible, but there just isn't enough interest in the phone for anyone with the necessary skills to actually go through the trouble?

I'm saying that Huawei must provide that 'patches' (as Qualcomm did, for example) otherwise is impossibile to build a working ROM, this is the problem. We cannot do anything without them.

this is why we should all come together so as to put pressure on huawei to release these files. i have been trying for months now but its getting very tiresome. im going to start a twitter account that will hopefully get their attention. i think the problem is that the general public dont know much/anything about custom roms. there should be a custom rom psa for all android users that point out the benefits of custom roms.

Agreed.
Unfortunately I live in a place where just picking up a new phone is not as easy as 123, But I think I'll try and get my hands on a different phone this weekend. Huawei pisses me off.
No source release by Huawei.
No Kirin SOC support would be a huge problem to get it working I think.
I recently purchased an tab S4 just an update from my previous Samsung tablet. I was wondering is there more ROMs for this tablet or ROMs currently in development? I noticed theres like 2 ROMs for this tablet. I have a note 8 and I'm currently running deluxerom on and it, and I really enjoy the tweaks and customization I'm able to do. I was looking for a same kind of feature for my tablet. Would greatly appreciate the answers I'm looking for. Thanks!

Pretty much zero support. You can get a few 9.0 GSI ROMs to boot, but they all have issues. Mine has been sitting around since it was purchased while still using my old 2014 model.

I had thought the same thing, but it seems the S3 is the last tablet to get real support.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble/trebleenabled-device-development
Some of the ones for 9 will work, but most features won't work too well, if at all.
You might be able to get another rom to work, I know I had no luck. Even trying ones with similar hardware, they all failed to even flash since the booting numbers are different.
Kind of have to be satisfied with Samsung, half baked custom roms or sell the thing.

Hey Veekay I tried it and you're right unfortunately I came across the same issue as you brother
Now I'm stuck and I need help sorting my device out, was wondering if you knew this issue or could help?
When I got the stock firmware back and then when I flash TWRP with odin after going into TWRP I get 0mb as internal
so when I format and then go back into my load up the screen after SAMSUNG says "verification failed" and then reset
on the bottom. I tried other options as well. Without even wiping on TWRP the devices boots up into the setup wizard for the firmware fine
but after I wipe TWRP so I can get access to my internal drive my samsung boots into that verification reset screen. Got any clue as to how I can
resolve this issue? Thanks a bunch!

Have you tried just reloading the latest stock firmware from scratch?
Yup, its unfortunate that there isn't much community support for this device. The Tab S4 is Project Treble supported and a few GSI ROMS do work. But as others have said they are unstable and not for use as a daily driver. We have a few discussion threads here talking about them.

https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/wiki/Generic-System-Image-(GSI)-list
you can try only "Android 9 Pie" official or unofficial gsi roms..
and remember ! Some GSIs roms maybe are not compatible with some devices! you can ask for your device on each thread
(for example look here): https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/issues/777
(usually this Gsi aosp 9 phh, generally works on most devices...BUT! ask first, and discuss it in the thread)

Can I do this without stock ROM and only TWRP? Because having the stock ROM is disabling my twrp to function without wiping and if I wipe than my stock ROM doesn't work
Thanks!

Sorry, but I don't understand what do you mean " without stock rom and only twrp"...
you can install a Gsi rom, with two ways
Via TWRP, or Via Fastboot : https://www.xda-developers.com/flash-generic-system-image-project-treble-device/ (Tab S4 is a-only arm64)
for any other question, it is better to ask in the thread : https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...vice-development/aosp-9-0-phh-treble-t3831915
(read carefully in OP & you can post, every single question there for your device, and you will get certainly help from the developer or from any other user..)

You are going to have to just wipe it and start over from square one, unless you made a TWRP backup before starting all of this.
Download and flash the latest stock rom from recovery and then you can load twrp again.
I was looking at the possibility of using GSI's on some devices, and while they can offer new life to older devices, they're not entirely stable all the time unless you're willing to make your own changes. I know Lineage has made some excellent progress, but it's not fullproof yet and I wouldn't try it unless you're willing to not use your device as a daily use device.
I had an extra T-Mobile Revvlry which is basically a rebranded Moto g7 Play that I installed the Lineage GSI image and it works fairly well. However, this is more the exception to the rule and Moto devices, I feel, are far simpler in design vs certain Samsung devices. It also had a ton of trial and error involved for me to get it up and running properly.
Is it possible as the s4 becomes older, more people buy it and Samsung stops releasing official updates that someone will come along and create a ROM for it? Or is it more like Samsung locked the bootloaders and its close to impossible to write a ROM for it? Is it still possible to root the s4?

Read very carefully without rush ! for " WETA Kernel + Encryption disabler " etc
especially, read the user comments carefully, and ask on the thread for any questions you have..

( Newest Odin v3.14.4 is there : https://dl2018.sammobile.com/Odin3-v3.14.4.zip )
Thanks. I took a quick peak at the roms and kernels in the roms and kernels forum and they are pretty much all abandoned.
Someone did mention that the LOS 16.0 and ArrowOS GSI's work alright but are a bit buggy.

samsung, maybe at the end of july to give the upgrade to android 10....it is very likely to happen I think
yes,all Gsi Roms still have various problems unfortunately...
my opinion is: stay to stock rom for now....you can "uninstall" many applications if you want & without root, via "samsung package disabler"(paid) from playstore, or with this way:
https://beebom.com/how-remove-bloatware-android-without-root/
also, you can Install "NiceLock Downloader Companion App" ,to add some features on your device : https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-9/themes/nicelock-module-download-links-module-t3923844
with this way I operate my device until now..
