i found it was a driver issue.. the new drivers that install with kies..
Here is the verison that worked for me: SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_1.4.8.0
It's the fault of outdated Windows Update drivers for our phones.
Correct way of installing drivers if above error is present:
1. Disconnect phone from PC.
2. Uninstall Kies and drivers.
3. Download fresh copy of Kies from Samsung website.
4. Turn off Internet connection on PC <- important! This will force OS to look for drivers on PC first instead of Windows Update.
5. Install Kies, run it.
6. Connect phone to PC and wait for drivers installation.
7. Turn on Internet connection.
8. Done.

Hey Guys,
So im having an issue for when i try to connect my note 2 running Jedi X20 to my windows 8.1 computer i get an error stating "USB Device Not Recognized". I have tried everything from trying different cables, downloading drivers, deleted and reinstalling drivers, checking to see if my phone is set to PDA, trying factory reset in TWRP, etc. i was wondering if anyone has successfully fixed this issue and they could help me.
I am trying to get my device connected so ODIN may recognize my device so i can revert it back to Stock.
My note 2 is also showing up as "unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Have you tried the USB ports on the back of the PC? If so....
Maybe try updating the drivers for the motherboard of your PC instead of using standard Windows 8.1 drivers. Assuming Windows 8.1 is recognizing all the USB ports you are trying to plug your cable into.
If this does not work and you have a copy of Windows 7, download Virtualbox and install Windows 7 as a virtual machine. Launch it make sure you have the USB settings inside the virtual machine setup to allow the USB to be used from Host PC.
Load the Samsung drivers in the Windows 7 virtual machine. I'm assuming those are the drivers you have stated you have downloading and reinstalled.
Sorry meant to say it's a laptop. Tried all ports and installing drivers. Unfortunately I don't have windows 7

Just tested on windows 7 and it did recognize the device. I'm just having issues on 8.1 and can't seem to find a fix.

A friend of mine asked me to help them with their galaxy nexus. They attempted to root it and now it's not working. If I turn it on normally I get a Google logo and lock. I can start it in fastboot mode and recovery. In all cases Windows recognizes that a device is plugged in, I get a chime when it's plugged and unplugged, but it does not show up as a device even when mounted in CWM. As far as fastboot goes I'm sure the drivers are installed properly, it detects other devices correctly but this one doesn't show up. Is this fixable or is the device bricked? Any help would be appreciated.

What do you get when you type: fastboot devices. And what is in the Windows device manager window when the phone is connected?

Yeah thats a driver problem. Click on Android 1.0 and click on update drivers then search for the google or Samsung fastboot drivers and install them.

Thanks, that worked perfectly. The problem I'm having now is that I can't get it to mount so I can transfer an image to it. It worked perfectly in fastboot and I was able to install TWRP but neither fastboot or windows picks it up as a mounted location. Twrp shows everything except for system is mounted and even when I mount system it still does not show up.
Thanks for getting me this far.

No problem The bootloader is not for transferring files. If you want to transfer files you can use adb push or adb sideload in recovery.

Yea, that's the problem, adb push doesn't detect the device, and windows doesn't detect it as a storage volume I can transfer files to. When I try to push to sdcard it cant locate the volume. Do I have to change the drivers for that? I haven't had that issue with any other device.
Yeah it seems like a driver problem. What does Windows device manager display?

Device manager shows the category: "SAMSUNG Android Phone" which contains the device "Google Galaxy Nexus ADB Interface".
Weird. What if you type "adb devices"?

Go to Device Manager, find the phone, and select the option to manually select drivers, than pick the generic Android MTP drivers.
Various reasons why folks don't get adb connectivity. But the solution above is what worked for me and some other folks, at least.
USB 3.0 also doesn't play well with this device. If your computer has it, you can try to disable the USB 3.0 drivers.
Tryed both still not working

Can someone post the USB drivers for for the SWR50? I can't install them via PC Companion because I receive the error:
