Thoughts on Lollipop after the update? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been getting very high app useage from System(Adsprpcd) idk why. My sounds aren't on either. But other than that, I love the update

If you're using Gsam, it tends to show up in Sense as well... Just leave it be, everything is fine

[Q] Juice Defender or Superpower?

Which do you guys think is better in terms of saving some battery and not hindering my performance at all?
What is superpower

Neither, it is a placebo effect. Find the right kernel and change some settings in your phone. These are not needed.

Actually I run stock, and I can tell you its no Placebo effect, my battery without it ran up to 12 hours, but with it I can get close to 30. Its main thing is(for both of them) is that it shuts down your data when your screen is off, and only turning it on at certain intervals. When your screen is on the data is on. They both are about the same, I prefer JD, but have used SP. It is a legit way to save battery especially if your stock as well as rooted. Now app killers on the other hand...not so much.

You know with Sense that it has the data off built-in? Go to wireless settings and turn off always on data. When the screen is off after 5 minutes, I think, it cuts the data off till you turn the screen on. In fact, Juice Defender eats up battery for me because it keeps the phone from sleeping a lot of the time.

placebo effect? hmm i run a pretty good setup kernel is battery charging 132 and i use collin ph battery tweak and life is decent. just heard good things about these programs. I like the idea were mobile data is only on when im using it. makes sense but ud think the stock rom would do that by itself already? can anyone confirm or disprove that?

There is no reason to have both apps installed on your phone considering they essentially do the same thing.

actually he's sorta right, some of the time the fact that the battery saving program is open all the time cancels out the battery that the program saves. Best thing to do is flash a solid kernel and colin ph

Actually, he's sorta wrong. You honestly think that the app uses as much juice as the data connection?
Superpower does no polling at all, all state triggered and has some SetCPU features built in, like seeting to ondemand and max 400mhz.
I've been using juice defender since august when I got my EVO and the battery saving has been exponential. That combined with my 3000mAh extended battery and I get 4 days on 3g.
I have not used either but I hear good things about juice. The only reason I don't run them is I use google messenger so I need my data always on. Juice pretty much cuts down how often your phone polls from the servers (kinda?). Anyways if you don't need constant connectivity I would say go with juice

So what are the negatives or bugs with the kitkat update?

I know one of the positives is now you can get the bootloader unlocked
But umm does it still have a speakerphone issue? And did it lose some GSM frequencies or something for tmobile/att? And as I understand it.. it was last I heard unflashable for page plus/verizon? Or is that changed obviously cause of bootloader unlock?

My speaker makes a popping noise for pretty much everything I do, though a bunch of people have reported that as well I think.
My battery has gone to hell. With almost everything Greenifyed, SetCPU underclocking to 594 MHz, I'm still losing about 5% an hour. When I turn Location and Google Now off, it's about the same, so I've just been leaving them on. I have a 5000 mAh batter pack that I carry everywhere with me now.

The popping noise used to not occur on my phone, but lately I've been hearing it now and then.
I'll second the mention of worse battery life (although it was also not-so-great on Jellybean). I haven't gone quite as far as vjaamm has, but I've tried to maintain a decent balance of apps and battery life and still can't push a full day. The phone goes from full to 20% in about 11 hours, with 80 minutes of having the screen on.
Cyanogenmod definitely does better on battery life, but the current nightlies still have some issues to sort out (broken Bluetooth audio, spotty Wi-Fi for some, weird speakerphone issue, unknown "My Number" for some and the consequential inability to send MMSes)
Everything is working perfectly fine for me on KitKat. I keep reading about others having worse battery life, but mine seems to be the same. It's not better or worse. I don't have any popping noises, random reboots or heat issues.

Did you installed Kitkat via RSD or OTA?? because the ota failed to me, and i installed KK from a zip that i found here
This morning, I was listening to come music on my commute to work. It's about an hour and 15 minutes. My battery was done to 83%. I wasn't playing any games, not looking online or texting. It's kinda crazy to drop that fast just from MP3's. It never did that on Jellybean.
I wasn't streaming them. I was using PowerAMP and just using songs on my SD Card.
I bet the phone just didn't like the music I was listening to. lol

In my case, at least, your screenshots make the difference clear - your phone is barely awake when the screen is off; mine is nearly always awake, even with the screen and Wi-Fi off.

BL unlocked&rooted
KK installed using official file via RSD
Kitkat was working fine, and everything seemed to work as expected until recently when it started overheating, running the battery down really fast and then shutting off. When this behavior starts, you can't charge it from a car charger, a PC USB port, a portable battery pack and sometimes not even the official Verizon charger that came with the phone. All of this behavior started after KitKat. My daughter gave me her Razr M to use which still has JB on it, and I won't be upgrading it to KitKat. I don't think the M is quite up to Kitkat, or KitKat isn't optimized properly for the M. Cyanogenmod 11 runs much better, even with the few bugs it has.

My wifes razr M is really starting to piss her off since the update. Reboots all throughout the day. SOD's (screen of death), and just general stupid behavior. Before I know it she'll be wanting a iphone or something.

I remember something like that happening when I had one of the verizon apps disabled. As soon as it was enabled again, the FC stopped happening. That was on Jellbean though.

Carrier IQ on AT&T Note 5

I've been monitoring my battery life for a while and while I get pretty good battery life and SOT, I noticed that Android System always seems to consume the most battery. I've looked at threads where people are getting absurd SOT (upwards of 7-8 hours) and wondered why my AT&T model couldn't do the same even after using Package Disabler Pro and Adguard and I think I know why. I went into Application Manager --> Running --> Android System and found this (see attached image). It appears Carrier IQ is onboard again and causing Android System to consume a lot of battery life. I believe this is the reason why some aren't getting great battery life and unfortunately it can't be deleted with Package Disabler Pro.. I wish Samsung would stop letting carriers tamper with their software or release a pure version of the phone that's compatible with the AT&T network. Sorry for the Novel but I wanted you to know why you are not getting great battery life.

Thanks for the tip.. Can you try it out and see what it affects? Don't wanna turn it on and it breaks a bunch of stuff. I use Adguard, Google Now and social media apps so I'm wondering if that will break anything or stop anything from working properly
Edit: Did some research and it turns out that it affects multitasking and might actually drain more battery because when you open an application it has to reload everything from scratch since it was shut off and can end up draining more battery than it saves.

Battery is very good. But I would recommend you do a factory reset after flashing it. It's always good to do a factory reset when coming from an android version to another version for better results in general.

I get about 5 hours SOT, a slight improvement to 8.1 which is not bad for DP3!
Also most of the app crashes and incompatibilities that I had with DP2 are gone or resolved after resp. app updates.
Enjoy the half gestures of DP3

It's really good, when I'm in the office, from 11 to 7, using the phone for calls and messages at the end of my workday, I'm still having 75-85%. About SOT, as I'm using the phone on almost full brightness every time, at least 90%, I'm getting 4-4.5 hours.

It's really odd. For the first few days it was fine then suddenly it happened. As for fast charging I haven't actually looked (battery life has been much better). The lock ups have something to with with the UX but I haven't been able to pin-point it.

I use bank apps a lot! I think I can't root then...
From my testing on an un-rooted g981W, the battery and SOT saved between 96 and 120 is negligible. Perhaps ~15min , if that, and for me not worth the time.
I bought my phone for 120hz, not to cripple it with refresh and battery work arounds. But that's just me
hi,
15 min isn't worth it. I also bought it to bE at 120 hz .... a must.
One thing I feel is better with 96hz is that when the phone gets hot it stays smooth as opposed to the 120hz getting choppy, maybe I am just a bit lucky though and others find no difference

I have been using 96hz for some time now so maybe recent updates have improved 120hz when hot, on 96hz I have never had it throttle back to 60hz either which I think was reported in the early day too, maybe I should give 120hz a go again
