I have I galaxy III SGH T999 and installed the gummy ROM recently. I had been getting 3G /H instead of 4g/LTE so I decided to flush an LTE enabler modem. After I did this I have been unable to get service and my IMEI says unknown. Prior to doing this i had backed up my EFS folder onto my desktop using EFS backup tool. Now I am trying to restore EFS to see if it help. Could some please walk me through how to restore this folder? Thanks in advance.

One does not simply flash a modem from a different d2, you said you have a t999 therefore its not LTE capable... Only the T999L is capable of LTE ... Try flashing modems meant for the T999 like VUENC2 which is the latest... You'll find it on docholiday's modem thread

Thank you for the response. I will try your suggestion. How do I resolve the issue of unknown IMEI. As I said earlier, I backed up EFS prior to all these problems but I just cannot figure out how to restore it> I have tried the the emulator, copied directly from my desktop, EFS backup pro, but none has been helpful.
Well pray that its only showing that because of incompatible modem and flashing correct modem will fix it, honestly I have no idea , I never had an imei wiped before...
I tried flushing modems as you suggested but it did not work. Thanks for your help though. Anybody else. Please help me out. I need to figure out how to restore the back up of my EFS folder. There are a few files in the folder. One folder says IMEI and and I also have an EFS.img file saved to my desktop. Please help me.

N7105 does not have nv_data.bin
Please forgive me if I am mistaken…
I noticed that the N7105 does not have nv_data.bin (I think Samsung LTE devices don’t have this).I’m not certain that a traditional efs backup will be enough to ensure the safety of your IMEI when flashing.
To be on the safe side in addition to the traditional efs backup I also followed the steps in the following post to create an IMEI backup using QPST:

thx , can we then flashe the other roms in 7100 and restore the back up from 7105 ? does it work that why or no?

Thanks for your remind, this is very important information for all Note 2 LTE user!!!
This is incredibly useful information and thanks a lot for that - backed my data up just to be on the safe side!
This should, however, be on the EFS partition so if you are using TWRP you can actually create a full system backup including the EFS partition. I have been trying to get the N7100 CM build running on my N7105 by patching in various radio files and with the help of a certain developer within the N7100 community. So far the progress is slow but during this time I have been restoring back and forth between samsung stock and CM10. The facts of the process are this:
- The N7100 restores have to be patched to remove the check for N7100 (or you can use the N7100 recovery but that's not recommended.)
- The N7100 restores do *not* have support for our Qualcomm radio
- The N7100 restores *DO* work with Wi-Fi within our N7105 since this chip is the same
Essentially if you flash CM10 you end up with a tablet at this time but as I say, I am working on this when I get the time to fiddle and am hoping to get the N7105 CM build working properly.

Same for me ! I need the qcn file backup to restore my N7105.
Hi,
I wanted to root my Note 2 and try few things. And as a first step, I'm trying to find a right way to perform an EFS backup for my note 2. I did read in few threads that traditional EFS backup way will not work in note 2. And I found that there are couple of ways,
1) Galaxy Note 2 Toolkit here (which is not been updated for months now)
2) EFS Professional v2.0 here (but this points to the 9305. I understand both 7105 and 9305 share same Soc / Chipsets. But still is it right way?)
Is there are better way to do an EFS backup for Note 2? Please share some thoughts.
Here if you need rooting guide post #2 of this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696
If you use method 2 to root, then recovery also will have option to backup EFS.
If you have already rooted device

Hi evilbarcode,
Would you still possibly have the back up? I have messed up the GPS somehow on my N7105T and do not have a NV file back up. I don't need your IMEI just the NV data.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you

I flashed it with Uk stock rom from sammobile and it did not come with pit file.
The point is it was disconnected accidentally while flashing. So, flashed again
with HK stock rom.
Did you try to flash 4.1.2 over 4.2.2 by any chance? They moved the sdcard files to data/media/0 instead of data/media in 4.2.2.
Anyways to best way to fix this is to back up ur sd card to computer and Odin flash the original ROM that came with your device. (LTE hong kong version)

I did but it can not be fixed. It seemed to be lost something.
Flashing 4.1.2 over 4.2.2 is generally not a good idea. It will work if you first copy your sd card to the proper place before you flash a rom. For 4.2.2 it needs to be in data/media/0 folder. For 4.1.2 it needs to be data/media. It is possible to do this with a file manager with root access.
Odin will wipe your internal storage this is normal. The data/media/0 folder is not suppose to exist for 4.1.2 so it doesn't know how to deal with it. You need to format it back to 4.1.2 standards. As far as calls not working you probably need to make sure you have the right settings for calls and data to work. Odin should reflash the modem unless something went wrong during flash.
You should be careful when flashing things with Odin. Odin has total access to your device. Especially since HK ROMs are very different from the ones from UK. Make sure you got the correct .tar.md5 for your device. Check this list: http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-N5120 This is for N5120.
Good Luck. Worse comes to worse you may needs to triangle away and send to samsung.
Do you still get IMEI in place? If not, the call function would not work. Are you in HK or UK?
As suggested by nickdollahz, you need to copy out all the important files from "root" directory. Then, factory reset and flash again. Please note that factory reset will delete all your data.
For your reference, I'm in HK and has flashed the UK 4.2.2 rom previously (now the Germany one). I retain the original modem file of HK since I'm not sure if the modem of UK is compatible with HK's.

In the dialer, type *#06#, or in setting->about device->status->IMEI, it will display the IMEI no. Is it the same as that in the box?
Please also advise your current baseband and phone version in setting->about device.

That's why the call function does not work.
Please also advice the build number (i.e. last entry in setting->about device) of your current phone.
Before you flashed to 4.2.2 UK rom, what is your HK rom version? It should be N5120ZHBMD7, N5120ZHBME1 or N5120ZHBMG3.
Which version of 4.2.2 UK rom did you flash? And which HK rom version did you flash again?
Do you have EFS backup? If so, when did you back it up?

I think build number is N5120ZHBMG1
Before you flashed to 4.2.2 UK rom: It should be N5120ZHBMG3

There may be two possible cases:
1) The EFS is corrupted. If this is the case, since you do not have backup, what you can do is to reset flash counter, factory reset and bring it back to Samsung service center.
2) the EFS is not corrupted and is simply a compatibility issue. I read from i9300 forum that Samsung has changed the format of EFS since July. However, I'm not sure if this is the case for n5120. You may consider to flash the UK rom again and see if the IMEI comes back.
You may try (2) and if bad luck, you can flash back to HK rom and do (1) above.
Good luck!

Yes I used Odin, maybe with wrong TWRP file? is that possible?
Thanks for your anwser. I did that with a program called Titanium Backup
Do i restore it the same way i did the backup (same app) ?
What if it fails to restore it? Im afraid to try it again, it was a shock, though i bricked it
Some versions of TWRP don't do that. I used 2.8.0.0. But I just got tired of it and just used CWM philz advanced. I only use TWRP when i need to fix permissions. Also you can restore your IMEI by using Kies.
