I have questions because I might get this phone. Is this the most active forum for this phone?
-do you guys see a lot more development coming?
-is this the forum for the ATT version of this phone?
-how long will it be before anyone actually starts working with this phone? I'm scared to leave my current phone. For a dead one.
-does this take a micro SIM and does it have a SD card slot?
Please answer these questions with the best of your ability. I know I can't ask about development but I wanna know what you guys know before I get a dead cell phone. I understand it's new and will take time. But I wanna know what's going on behind the scenes.

Do you think the development will extend? I'm on an HTC one x and I'd hate to leave all of the options I have

I don't have this phone ... I have LG Optimus 4X .
As you know , Optimus 4X is exactly the same as your phone (one x) . But we don't have any developments .
In a general view , LG Phones don't have a high developers (frankly speaking , don't have any developers) .
LG phones is very cheap with a high performance & excellent hardware , stylish . But I don't know why it's dead in development .
If you want to change from one x to optimus G and want some development, I don't think you will get that .
You can get Root , Unlock BL , Recovery ... but after that you won't get that much of ROMs or Kernels .
I always check one x forum and there are millions ROMs & Kernels . While we aren't even if we have the same RAM , GPU & CPU .
But I'm not sure of Optimus G .
I hope this helped .

Why?optimus g> hox anytime.
The phone is great.we already have cm 10.1,but this phone is flawless on stock too.
It's true, there aren't many devs, but those working here are great.to be honest, not the devs is the problem, but the users.we are not many.i bet all my money if this phone would've been made by sammy or htc, this section would've been different, with much users and devs.but it's not the case.
Regarding your criteria for choosing this phone, wow,i'm surprised,i mean,if nokia 3310 has more devs ,youl'd choose that?.
Like i said ,lgog beats hox by a mile.

I agree with the previous posts. Probably not much development for this because LG makes a good phone.
If google picked them this year to make their Nexus phone, then they got to be doing something right.

Nah, it's pretty quiet hear. A nice getaway from the usual hustle-bustle of XDA traffic. Well, Samsung, HTC, and even Sony, they all have a good amount of developers. The XPERIA Z was released after the Optimus G, yet it's got much more developers than the former. I guess LG phones, even though this is a really good device, don't sell that well, and this puts off developers from developing. So, if it's development that you want, I'd advise you to move to another option or even brand.
You already have the 3 main developpement: CM, AOSP, AOKP.
Comming from HTC, I can understand the need for "more roms", since the OEM does totally blows. But honnestly, LG roms aren't half as bad as HTC!

For the Canadian variant, maybe, but development's seriously lacking for the international E975. We just have CM, but that's a little buggy at present.
Well, chad's version has the call bug and the 8mpx camera, but official cm,with kernel based on lg source,is bugfree.
I tried them both.now i'm looking for a dual boot system,so i can run both official and chad's version untill they decide to merge the projects.if this happens,it will be the best decision.

It's a nightly, not the final, polished version. So, it's surely got to have some bugs. By the way, is GAPPS included, because 180 MB seems a little too small for a ROM? And is there a risk of the EFS partition being erased? How do you work around it if there is?
gapps are never included in CM since version 9
you have to flash it manually

I had the exactly same question before buying OG.
In my case, the painful experience with my Optimus 2X made me circumspect about another LG phone. I look up for Nexus 4 and I found that it has many problems... so I asked myself the question what is the closest best phone to Nexus 4?
It turns out it was OG. Hardware is identical but OG is faster, better built, has an powerful stock ROM, better camera and radio.
This two phones are so identical that can share 99.9% of N4 kernel. So I guess future android versions will be ported to OG with close to none problems.
E975 is recently launched so development is in its infancy but as you can see, we already have official CM support!
My bet is on OG.

hi. im a hardcore samsung fan but now im kinda bored of it. just sold my galaxy S4 yesterday. now i wanted to jump to LG and see if its good or not.
i have heard a lot good about this phone. im kinda power user (if thats a thing ) cause i like to try new roms and tweak a lot with my phone. every body knows samsung gets the most love from developers because of so many users and there are tens of roms to choose from for sammy phones.
its my first time with LG phone so, im confused like HELL! cause i see there are like 5 versions of Optimus G pro.
my question here is which version should i buy which has easy Rooting and the most number of roms?
as i have already said i dont use the phone much for other things like TV (i guess there is TV antenna in the korean model) i just keep changing and trying out new roms. so which version should i get which had the most love of devs here? should i get the E980, E986 or E988
and how to check the EXACT MODEL NO while buying?
thanks

Man if I were in your place I wouldn't have sold the s4 ull be underwhelmed by the contrast of this screen like I was when I switched to this phone and also the contrast of the camera but it has much better build quality than s4
Its a really good phone no doubt but the s4 is just better including the developer support if I were you I would get the new HTC one or wait until the s5 comes out but if that's not in your budget. The g2 is a lot better than this and not much more expensive either I would recommend that it also has a much better camera another option is the note 3 but that is also quite expensive
But if your set on getting this phone I won't stop you cause I literally can't
You can confirm the version by going to the settings > about phone> phone identity
You can also confirm it by taking off the back cover and battery u will find the imei number and version of this phone

Nope, but there is a stock gpe ROM devoid of all the cruft!
Roms for v510 gpe palman
I don't understand why everyone is against putting ROMs on the gpe v510 palman. I mean, stock is great, but the ROMs add a ton more customization options. And I don't care what anyone says, exposed is buggy and laggy and I'd rather put a ROM with all the features already there... Is there any hope? Maybe someone could explain, in layman's terms, how I could change a line of code in one of the ROMs and flash it that way. I'm almost positive that its either the source code, which may or may not be available, or it's a line of code to change. I'd like to know...
+1 I'm at a loss why there's no custom roms...
Because the people who wanted a custom ROM have all bought the V500.
Almost nobody bought the GPE.
Those of us that did, realize that unlike HTC who just created firmware for an identical device, LG made a separate device, incompatible with the V500 ROMS.
The GPE was very expensive compared to the N7.
It's the first Google "endorsed" product I've regretted buying.

Only in America. In most other places, like where I am, the N7 was quite expensive. Over here the G Pad (either version) was a much better deal.
I have a few questions. I'm coming from the att note 3, im not new to the custom rom world at all. This will be my first lg phone. Anything I should know about the flashing process with this phone? Are roms universal? Are there any GPS issues?
From the end-user perspective, there is nothing really unique about flashing ROMs. Just load up into TWRP and do the traditional wipe/flash/reboot routine.
The ROMs for different models are not universal. If you have a D855, stick with the ROMs marked as D855 compatible.
GPS seems to be pretty stable in the custom ROMs (or at least the KitKat ones, no idea about Lollipop). They make take a little longer to get a lock than stock, but it works.
Also, one more note, if you have any device except the D851 (T-Mobile variant): be patient with the devs. Though the device has been out for several months, development for it really only just started. The bootloader "unlock" exploit just got released a few weeks ago, so not many custom ROMs are around yet. If you have a D851, this doesn't apply. It is bootloader unlocked from the factory.

I see. So as of right now the tmo variant has the most support since the bootloader was originally unlocked? Also if you've used a device with TouchWiz how is lg's skin compared to TouchWiz on Samsung phones? Are there any annoyances that you have with this phone?

LG's skin is much closer to stock Android than TouchWiz, and therefore much cleaner. It also seems to be much less bloated. I still prefer the stock look over either, but that's a personal preference thing.
My only real complaint with the phone is that LG added some serious oversharpening in the low level firmware (where ROMs can't touch). It gives everything this strange halo around it, but it's only noticeable most of the time on text. Many people say that the sharpening isn't there at all, which leads me to think that not all models have it (or maybe you just need good near field vision ).
I've been struggling to make a decision between the G3 and the G4. The G4 obviously is the newer device with the better specs, but I didn't see any (official) cyanogenmod support yet for it, whereas the G3 has that going for it already. Having some custom roms available is a killer feature for me in a device. I already read that even only the european version (I'm from Germany) of the G4 can be rooted - is that the reason why there are next to no custom ROMs or kernels at all?
Do you recommend the G3 if I'm going for customizability or is the G4 going to get CM support eventually?
Thanks in advance for any help

No idea about CM but I think we all have root now. I am using the Canadian model (H812) and we have root but no unlocked bootloader.
We flash things using FlashFire since we can't install TWRP. No idea about roms, I don't use them.
If you're looking for strictly customization you won't find much for the G4. Maybe you'd be satisfied with what's available as far as themes, Xposed, etc.
You can change things up quite a bit, but it's pretty far from a custom rom or kernels. If you're not in a rush maybe wait it out a bit to see if the G4 scene improves. In my opinion it's the much better device out of the two. If anything when you do buy the prices could be lower.

I would also like to add that flashing roms can get old after a while. On my G2 and previous phones I was constantly flashing and changing things. Seemed like everything was buggy in one way or another. In the end I was happier with a nice phone where everything worked the way it should.
With the G4 I'm pretty happy with the stock software, sure I rooted and changed a few things appearance wise, and removed a lot of bloat ware. I'm stuck with a stock rom and recovery(stupid Verizon model), but that's ok!

@rick09 Why do you think it's better? Other reasons besides performance?
But the G3 should still be a good phone, right? Currently, I've got an HTC One M7, on which the battery lift has gotten quite horrible... Now I don't really know what to get - I've thought about these (In brackets my concerns about them):
Moto X Play (No replaceable battery)
Oppo R7 Plus (Last gen processor, Huge but unreplacable battery)
LG G3 (Nice overall, but the G4 is newer)

Ok look, if you're going to buy one of these phones so go with the G4 H815 (not any other model! because of unlockable bootloader) it will get the cm very soon, the development is very fast,
BUT if custom roms are you're thing and you can't live without it so don't but lg at all, go for the oneplus 2 or the new nexus devices the n5x or the n6p

The M7 is by no means a bad device but changing the battery is nearly impossible on that thing. Also, because of a hardware failure which affected the whole M7 series, all my low-light photos look like this which renders the camera totally unusable is some situation. The strongest reason for me wanting to get a new device is that my employer will pay it though, so I'm going to get a new phone anyways, it's just that i've only got a certain budget and the G4 would fit the bill, I think

The strongest reason for me wanting to get a new device is that my employer will pay it though, so I'm going to get a new phone anyways, it's just that i've only got a certain budget and the G4 would fit the bill, I think

What do you like about the G4 ? seems you are more interested in roms.

I'm not sure I'm even allowed to root the device since it's from my employer - Otherwise, the G4 is just an upgraded version of the G3, isn't it?

Why do you wanna know? I just compared multiple phones (like the ones I already listed above) and I just like LGs approach when it comes to the removable battery and the choice to expand the storage via microSD

That's what i wanted to know because some people don't care about that. Also you did not mention any other brands so was curious.
The G3 comes in two variants, 2 & 3GB RAM with storage of 16 & 32GB. The 3GB is the better choice. They did away with this in the G4 and its just 3GB and 32GB like the G2 and optimus G earlier for storage.
The G4 has a much better camera than the G3 which is the same one used in the G2 and flex models. The G3 is a capable auto shooter but the manual controls on the G4 mean more control and better low light ability. The aperture is 80% brighter.
The screen on the G4 is also better and brighter. This you will have to see for youself to decide. Then decide whether you are ok with the slight curve on the G4 that the G3 does not have. Roms will come in time but i see a number of people who are not bothered.
Have you seen the V10 ? will be more expensive since its 4GB and 64GB only. and the manual controls of the stills camera carry over to the video side as well. This right now isn't possible on the G4. The V10 is a little bigger though.
How much battery do you need ? mention your expected SOT/runtime.
I have H815 and have root, unlocked bootloader and flashed TWRP, please, get the G4. Getting a G3 is pointless. Think of the G4 as an optimised G3.
I had the g3 for a few days and it was full of lag and heat. Screen was also bad!
The G4 is a totally different phone. Everything about it is better except for size.

I did hear about the V10, of course, but that will, at least on release, be way out of my price range of about 400-500€ I can use from my employer. Also, I can't add from my own money because law restrictions and stuff.
Battery-wise, I'm quite the heavy user - I commute about 2 hours a day by bus and have the screen on almost all the time, but battery's not really a concern for me as I have a 13k mAh powerbank and the possibility to charge at work.
I was also considering a Galaxy Note 3 or 4, as they also have microsd and a swappable battery but meh, it's TouchWiz. Also it's a teeny tiny bit too expensive for my budget.
