Hello,
I see a lot of ROMs for the standard LG G Pad V500, I was wondering if they can be flashed to the GPE V510?

Nope, but there is a stock gpe ROM devoid of all the cruft!
Roms for v510 gpe palman
I don't understand why everyone is against putting ROMs on the gpe v510 palman. I mean, stock is great, but the ROMs add a ton more customization options. And I don't care what anyone says, exposed is buggy and laggy and I'd rather put a ROM with all the features already there... Is there any hope? Maybe someone could explain, in layman's terms, how I could change a line of code in one of the ROMs and flash it that way. I'm almost positive that its either the source code, which may or may not be available, or it's a line of code to change. I'd like to know...
+1 I'm at a loss why there's no custom roms...
Because the people who wanted a custom ROM have all bought the V500.
Almost nobody bought the GPE.
Those of us that did, realize that unlike HTC who just created firmware for an identical device, LG made a separate device, incompatible with the V500 ROMS.
The GPE was very expensive compared to the N7.
It's the first Google "endorsed" product I've regretted buying.

Only in America. In most other places, like where I am, the N7 was quite expensive. Over here the G Pad (either version) was a much better deal.

Hello everyone,
I'm currently thinking of buying the LG G Pad 8.3 mainly because of it's size, I believe it will strike as the best tablet size for my usage. Anyway, I can't buy the GPE version as it's sold only in the US and the store will only accept a US credit card and I'm not really sure about the LGE V5100 so I wanted to hear from you guys. Would you prefer the LGE over the GPE edition? I'm mainly concerned about the lag.
Also, how are the custom roms? I found the Mahdi-Rom to be very popular around here but I don't really understand, is it a stock ROM? or just built above the stock LG rom with some customizations?
Thanks,
Salem
At this moment in time the LGE is getting all the love on here.
Right now I'm happy I could only get it as I live in the UK. Though in fairness aosp and gravity box would meet my needs perfectly.
I think in time the tables will turn and we'll see more development for the GPE.
Mahdi is I believe based on CM11, it's most definitely not based on LGs rom.
Malladus is based on LG's rom.
The roms are coming along brilliantly with gpad features being quietly added back to the roms (I guess cm11 and mahdi are the front runners in this department)though Malladus has pretty much all the features as it's based on the LG rom (jellybean)
Hope this helps
All the best rich

Hi Folks,
I am looking for buying a Tablet and found this one a perfect size and need. I have few Questions !
1) I like the White version which isnt available for GPE( V510) ? So I am more inclined to buy V500. But I am want to either use Custom Roms or Get a GPE firmware so I will get all the fast updates. ?
Can anyone suggest whether I should buy a non GPE and use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2564646 This or Should I buy GPE directly and adjust with Black itself
Also
Right Now V500 is available for 299$ whereas GPE is full priced 349. Which would make more sense according to my needs.
Please let me know what you guys think.
Regards
Zaib
I think you should get the white one for 299, the GPE rom is in development and there are plenty of good kitkat roms (I love CM the most, although a lot think Mahdi is the best).

Do GPE devices get updated about as fast as Nexus devices?
How about typical timing of custom ROMs compared to releases for GPE?
The GPE is more expensive than stock (at least, in the US based on sales for the stock edition) and I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it.
Apologies if I missed something in search.

Google Play Editions are second to get the updates, usually within a week of the nexus devices, while the lg V500 still hasn't recieved kitkat yet.
Really, I wouldn't worry too much about kitkat or not. A lot of hype. There are a couple of stable roms for the lgv500 now, and only a stock starter rom for the gpe as it is already bare bones, and with the edition of xposed and a custom kernel, doesn't really need anything else. All of the roms are running kitkat as far as i know.
The only note of interest here is that the lgv500 (not GPE) does not currently have the screen adjusted in any of the roms that I know of -- Somebody please correct me if I am wrong about that. There is however, someone working on a custom kernel for the 500 to fix that issue.
Hate to say it but you may want to check out the 8.4 galaxy tab pro.
I can pick up both Google pay edition or normal retail edition with similar price. Which one is better to buy? I saw most customized ROMs are made for V500, can they also installed for Google edition? if not, does Google edition only have a very limited ROM available?

This really comes down to personal preference. However the roms for the V500 do not work on the V510 and vice versa. The hardware appears to be different enough that folks have been unable to make "universal" roms for both devices.
i bought the non gpe v500 g pad but if i had the option to do it i would pick the google one...Its much smoother and the ui is simplistick.with the lg roms you got too much unnecessery apps and visuals that requieres memory.
Now im using CM rom and i see much different in ui workspace.
GO FOR THE GOOGLE EDITION!

I started with V500. Sold it on swappa.com and bought a GPE. Much smoother, faster tablet.
I just got my GPE and really like its kk4.4.4 smoothness & speed. Unlocked & Rooted it, then flashed Sleeks kernel and using Exposed!

or you can flash a ROM!mines also goes fast right now with custom rom
I have a few questions. I'm coming from the att note 3, im not new to the custom rom world at all. This will be my first lg phone. Anything I should know about the flashing process with this phone? Are roms universal? Are there any GPS issues?
From the end-user perspective, there is nothing really unique about flashing ROMs. Just load up into TWRP and do the traditional wipe/flash/reboot routine.
The ROMs for different models are not universal. If you have a D855, stick with the ROMs marked as D855 compatible.
GPS seems to be pretty stable in the custom ROMs (or at least the KitKat ones, no idea about Lollipop). They make take a little longer to get a lock than stock, but it works.
Also, one more note, if you have any device except the D851 (T-Mobile variant): be patient with the devs. Though the device has been out for several months, development for it really only just started. The bootloader "unlock" exploit just got released a few weeks ago, so not many custom ROMs are around yet. If you have a D851, this doesn't apply. It is bootloader unlocked from the factory.

I see. So as of right now the tmo variant has the most support since the bootloader was originally unlocked? Also if you've used a device with TouchWiz how is lg's skin compared to TouchWiz on Samsung phones? Are there any annoyances that you have with this phone?

LG's skin is much closer to stock Android than TouchWiz, and therefore much cleaner. It also seems to be much less bloated. I still prefer the stock look over either, but that's a personal preference thing.
My only real complaint with the phone is that LG added some serious oversharpening in the low level firmware (where ROMs can't touch). It gives everything this strange halo around it, but it's only noticeable most of the time on text. Many people say that the sharpening isn't there at all, which leads me to think that not all models have it (or maybe you just need good near field vision ).
