[Q] Erasing Everything from Nexus 7 - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I have a Nexus 7 (2013) that for reasons only known to myself - I wish to completely erase
That's the IMAGE file as well - so it can't be restored
I have it connected to my PC and it see's it as a Nexus 7 with no drive letter - so I can't format it as a normal USB drive
I need to be able to prevent restoration as well
I guess I am asking for a simple way to brick it................ ??
Any suggestions
Thanks

Any suggestions. ... Please.

Follow the return to stock guide. First you erase everything then you reinstall the stock firmware using fastboot.

As said, follow a guide to flash the stock image from Google, that process will delete anything. Other option, if you got custom recovery would be a factory wipe, or even a simple factory reset...

There's only one way to prevent anything doing any kind of restoration to it...

Seriously though, you need to wipe it a few times and overwrite the space on it to make sure nothing it recoverable.
http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/how-to-wipe-android-phone-or-tablet/

I want it to be unusable afterwards....(not restored)
The reason being that the shop from whom I bought it - 13 months ago, has offered me a FULL refund - if, when I return it to them - they can get the same INTERMITTANT fault that I have been getting on it since I upgraded the OS to 4.3 !!
The problem is that NOW, II cannot get it to fail - so need a little help !!
The fault occurs at random times - locking up the device - making it very difficult to access it - so I am looking for a FREE replacement

[SOLVED] Semi bricked Samsung Galaxy Nexus

2 days had passed since I bought SGN and already I had loved it. I had rooted it using Nexus Root Toolkit and pushed the 4.1.1 JB update. Last night suddenly and without a particular reason while I was out I was unable to make calls. The mic and speaker wouldn't work. Also the screen opened with no reason and closed after a few seconds. I came home and wiped data and cache via CWM. The problem was not solved. As a friend suggested I also formated everything, system etc. But due to the fact that I was used to my HTC Desire having an SD card I forgot to push the ROM. Since SGN does not have an SD card I can't do it anymore.
I tried pushing the ROM via Nexus Root Toolkit but I was unable due the fact that I must have USB Debugging on. Also every other feature of the Nexus Root Toolkit must have USB Debugging on. Well, I have no operating system to do that so... The only thing I want to do for now is to push a ROM in my phone to install Android again. Any ideas or directions on how to do that?
Thank you in advance.
did you do a backup?
Can you get it into fastboot? Maybe try pushing the factory JB image through fastboot flash boot.img?
Somebody tell me if im on the right track.
get into fastboot and flash a factory img via gnex toolkit or manually

You could probably push the ROM though fastboot using adb commands, but besides that do an Odin (the easy way out) restore but it would completely wipe your phone.
Firstly, thank you all for the quick response. I did use Galaxy Nexus Toolkit and managed to return to ICS stock. More of that, mic and speaker now work (!). I wonder if that problem knocks my door again though... One more (smaller) problem this time. For a peculiar reason my SGN does not mount when I connect it to the PC. I tried the laptop, no luck there too. The phone charges and I have enabled USB debugging. Any suggestions/directions to that?
Thanks in advance.
p.s.1: I already have thanked the ones who pointed me in the correct direction.
p.s.2: Definitely I'm going to donate a beer to the developer of Galaxy Nexus Toolkit!
EDIT: Since this has become into a new problem and probably not connected to the previous, I opened a new thread here and marked this as solved.

[Q] Extract Data without Root or Unlock (Stuck in bootloop)

Hello
Does anyone know a way to extract data from a Nexus 7 2013 without it being unlocked or rooted?
It is stuck in a bootloop, I think from a failed update. The tablet belongs to a family friend who has been using it as a usb device for months an contains documents, photos and other important data.
I manually sideloaded updates to 4.4.2 but that also did not work. Is there anyway to extract data off this thing? I can access stock recovery and fastboot. I would even destroy the tablet if there was a way to take the chip out and copy the stuff to a computer,
Thanks everyone
Anyone?

The only thing I can think of is that if you get it in fastboot and see if you can use adb to pull the files from it that you need..

[Q] Apparent Soft Brick... Issues with a fix

Hello, I am aware that I am a noob, but the issue I have is important to me.
When the android L developer preview came out I was thrilled, and thus proceeded to install it. I will spare you the details, but I ended up having everything on my Nexus 7 wiped except for TWRP. Now, me and my brother have attempted an adb push to get a rom on the tablet, but adb can't find the Nexus 7. Also, the Windows USB drivers refuse to be installed for the device (the process I used to do so was fully correct.) To actually post on XDA was my last resort after hours of research and attempting to revive my Nexus. Any willing advice would be great. Thanks!

[Q] Screen won't turn on - creating nandroid backup from adb or fastboot?

Hi
The screen on my rooted Nexus 7 2013 LTE (deb) with stock rom won't turn anymore. Not even after a reboot.
But luckily, on my PC, I can still access it with adb - seems, that I once had connected to it and allowed adb debug access and had the device remember that
Is there some way, that I could now create a nandroid backup? I already have a replacement unit, where I'd like to re-install what I had on my old deb.
Thanks.

Get into the bootloader and reflash. It's the only way to fix it. Restoring a nandroid would probably just cause problems.
What did you do to break it in the first place?

Hm, why should a reflash help? I'm not even seeing the boot animation anymore.
What did I do? Well, I was commuting on the bus from work to home and had been using the device on the bus. A few minutes later, I arrived home, and since then, the screen is off ☹
And I am also not interested in fixing THIS device. I've got a replacement from Google and have to send in the broken anyway.
Use adb pull to retrieve any and all data you want to retain.

please help my nexus 7 2013

my nexus 7 2013 wifi edition is stuck in opening wifi set up because my wifi cant connect to any router. Is there any way to bypass this one like for example using ethernet cable instead of using the wifi, is that possible? or any other way to disable or skip the wifi set up and how can i flash custom rom for this one without using twrp ? My device is not rooted. fresh flashed from stock.
or please anyone who own the same with my device can i have your nandroid back up file please, ill give you load for the reward please please help me. :crying:
I'd recommend using Nexus Root Toolkit - it has full ilustrated instructions for tunning your device. You can flash a custom rom using it. cheers.

Nexus Root Toolkit is a dead simple app that lets you flash content through fastboot mode. If your device is softbricked, it can also fix it. http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/

I don't know how to help you with your wifi problem, I just helped you with flashing through fastboot & NRT. Hope someone else knows something about it. Cheers.
Do you mean that it has no internet connection when connected to WiFi? I also experience it. You just have to reset the router or google how to fix it.

You have to root your device for that. In order to root your device, you will be needing a custom kernel then flash the superSU 2.60+
From there, you could easily delete the system apps.

Doesn't look like the NRT has been updated yet to this version, likely just have to give it a few more days.
