1st boot took 7 or 8 minutes - like the man said BE PATIENT
Great work as usual.
Excellent! Kindle is as smooth as ever!

cheers mate, awesome as usual.

I notice many other devs are building odex type ROMs which save quite a few minutes on the initial boot.
My natural reaction is that the initial wait is worth not having odex type files which hamper user customization.
Just thinking outloud.
Also:
Right now some transparency settings are turned off due to low ram. Going to look into re-enabling.
Battery drain is high atm. 12%+ a day sitting idle.
I installed this rom and my otterx is running better than ever. It took 8:25 minutes to boot and a few more to set up. Thanks Hashcode!
Me thinks the gapps link is dead

If you can't stand to not have transparency and are willing to suffer some performance, you can turn the low_ram setting in the build.prop to false. (Until the performance setting is back that forces transparency)

Thanks for Your work, and help with lovejoy777's Slim.
Awesome! Any chance of you porting this to the 2nd gen?
Thank you very much! Work well!
Is there any way to bring back rotation settings? I need only 3 directions.
Any way to bring back to quick panel volume and sound options? Is not possible to turn off sound
Don't forget this is an alpha. All the extras will come with time☺

For now I'm pushing the last 2 review items that we need to get OtterX back on CM nightlies for CM12. Then we can all sit back and watch the magic as CM does their thing re-adding all their UI changes.

STEP 1: DOWNLOAD TWRP 2.7.x.x and UPDATE (REQUIRED FOR 4.4):
EDIT: @Dees_Troy has an official 2.7.x.x w/ SElinux support here:
http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/blaze/openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.1-otter.img
Flash with the following adb commands:
Code:
adb shell
su
idme bootmode 4002
reboot
# back in your PC shell
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.1-otter.img
If you have problems with that file and/or don't want to use adb/fastboot flash method, you can download a flashable .zip from the following locations. Use your existing recovery to flash the update:
Mirror 1: Download (Goo.im)
BEFORE FLASHING ANDROID 4.4: PERFORM A WIPE + ADVANCED->FORMAT SYSTEM TWRP.

[07/30] Updated to CM10.2 build
[05/26] Backlight driver update to help w/ SODs
[05/24] Sensor updates (includes light sensor now usable in Android OS
[05/24] Reverted 2 sound driver commits in the kernel to help w/ headset function -- testing needed.
[05/14] New audio driver (WIP)
[03/27] Reboot Recovery mode is now fixed
[01/17] Updated SGX/PowerVR driver to latest binaries from omapzoom (still showing [email protected])
[01/15] CM10.1 updates + reverted some USB changes in the kernel for sleep testing
[01/07] Battery life / sleep improvements
[01/06] Update to 3.0.50 kernel
[01/06] Update wifi firmware to R5.SP3.06
[12/16] Fixed Deep Sleep
[12/15] Added multi-profile fix
CURRENT KNOWN ISSUES:
The headphone MIC input is not functioning correctly yet. Work in progress.
KERNEL FEATURES:
[08/12] Mainline version updates to 3.0.72 updated to current with Google's kernel/common
[01/06] WLAN Firmware R5.SP3.06
[11/07] Updated to SGX/IMG DDK [email protected] for Android (via omapzoom)
[11/07] WLAN Firmware R5.SP3.03
[09/05] Updated to SGX/IMG DDK [email protected] for Android
Based on TI kernel 4AI.1.7 (3.0.31 mainline) which supports 512M memory mapping needed by the Kindle Fire
Uses ducati binary from TI based on rpmsg 1.20.5.11 (replaced Archos ducati binary from ICS 4.0.3)
Kernel audio: Added a switch device "h2w" which allows the OS to recognize headset plug events and adjust audio capture routes accordingly. Translation: OS can recognize we have a MIC input via headset now. (NOTE: that audio recording is still not working at this time. Tho it is very close).
MUCH better standby / sleep function. The device will go inactive for much longer periods of time (80-100 seconds) while still waking up appropriately for wifi events, power button triggers, etc. And this is still going to get even better when I re-implement DPLL cascading and the charger fixes coming later.
Many bugfixes pulled down from TI's omapzoom sources.

DEVELOPER BUILDING:
Several patches are outstanding in CM's review so building this from source is currently not an option w/o some Cherry Picks:
Patch 1: http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/53917/
Patch 2: http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/54562/
And I'll be updating more of the cm11.0 gits tonight w/ changes to the build / extract files processes.
Won't get a decent build till that's all done.
KNOWN BUGS:
1. EHCI USB 2.0 isn't able to be add to the kernel w/o it crashing. Need to fix for higher speed USB transfers.
6. Headset recording via the MIC input jack doesn't work
DEVS
BUILDING THIS ROM:
First, read through Google's Android website about "how to setup a build environment":
http://source.android.com/source/initializing.html
Then you can setup the Kindle Fire by doing the following:
mkdir android
cd android
(Use main repo for CyanogenMod 10.2)
repo init -u https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android -b cm-10.2
repo sync
vendor/cm/get-prebuilts
. build/envsetup.sh && brunch otter
FINALLY!
I'll see if I can help with power button LEDs.
*out-of-topic note: 3rd post!
1. The backlight doesn't sync up well with the screen. Meaning that sometimes when you bootup you won't see anything but a black screen. Once the boot is done, you can hit the power button a few times and eventually the screen and backlight will sync up and you'll get a picture.

Power button four or five times, and it'll pop up.
Edit: not having the sync issue in HC, hash, do you have the log posted on your site regarding the back light issue? I know its kernel related but 3.2 is a lil more cumbersome, so it could just be OS lag. Are we using 4.0.3 or 4.0.4?

I don't have time at the moment to pull down the sources and poke around for myself, but it sounds like #4 is a script issue of some sort.
Either one of the scripts that needs to fire for shutdown is hanging up, or the output isn't returning properly so that the master script can continue and finish pulling it all down.
If I get a chance tonight, I'll grab the sources and poke around a bit.
I deal with hanging/incorrectly-terminating script **** at work all the time, so now I might even be able to contribute, yay!
Reserving this for a complete description of the backlight driver/issue and related sources for research.

Hey Hash I wanted to let you know that the charger does work for me. I don't have to boot back into twrp. Don't know if its just me or what but it works.
Edit: Didn't see that you had put its not working well instead off not at all, I'll do some more testing to see if it will give me problems. So far plugged it in about 20 times and its registering the charge.

This issue is popping up with random people (myself included) and Hashcode has been made aware of it on the other thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591869&page=5
The user who posted about it as well as another person as far as I know posted logs from their Kindle Fire's that depict the issue at hand. On a side note, and I know i'll get flamed for this, lets cut the arguing and just keep this thread as Hashcode requested it be, a development thread. If someone bashes you just ignore it and move on, the less clutter here the better Hashcode will be able to scan through it and pick out problems we're having and fix them.
To throw my two cents in on the issue itself:
I've noticed that when attempting to apply the suggested fix and sync up the graphics driver and the backlight I sometimes see quick glimpses of what I think are items on the screen, i'm wondering if this suggests an intermittent issue caused by the initial flash of the rom (could this explain why some are able to use the rom and some aren't). If this isn't possible please excuse my ignorance, it just made sense to me based on the limited amount of knowledge I have on this situation.

Wait, are you talking about things like large grey rows of pixels appearing on the screen? Sometimes I see gradients of monochromatic tones in addition to this. They only appear as the backlight is shutting off.

Paranoid Android team told me the 2.12 isn't stable, but 2.13 is stable.
When i test the 2.12 Rom you provided, the Rom is surely not stable.
The font size is too small in the Setting. I can't run Antutu benchmark to test, can't run Goomanager to get update unless i reboot my KF.
Can change the sources to 2.13?
Thanks!

If you want to have hashcode's latest kernel (charging fix) included in your build you will need to use the dev branches of his kernel and device repos:
<project path="device/amazon/otter" name="KFire-Android/device-amazon-otter" revision="jb-dev" />
<project path="kernel/amazon/otter" name="KFire-Android/kernel_omap" revision="p-android-omap-3.0" />

Good Morning fellow XDAers.
Here is a Pure AOSP KitKat build pulled from Google source found HERE
I will try to keep this updated with most recent source builds and minor tweaks. This makes for a good base for anyone to build from for a pure AOSP source. Just wanted to get it out there for people to use.
Instructions.
It is highly recommended that you flash using CWM recovery. TWRP may be updated but I haven't used it since KitKat released Again, if you brick your device, it's your fault not mine. This is a Beta so by clicking the download links you are taking full responsibility.
*Backup your current ROM
*Make sure you are using CWM recovery
*Do a complete system wipe
*Flash Rom
*Flash Gapps
*Flash Superuser pack
*Reboot and enjoy

Needs testing but youtube works through the browser fine. Please make sure you have a fresh wipe, then flash rom, gapps, su, reboot. Also, you may experience gapps fc if you enable ART. Since it is still ART is still experimental, I would hold off of that for now.

Thanks to a good buddy for motivating me to even get back in to compiling and messing with source. It's been awhile. Could the retirement be over? not likely. But you never know. Once Google releases the updated props I will update the OP.
Enjoy!
Don't be cheap. If you download hit the thanks button. It's free!

Yeah, transparency is done, and some other low level tweaks. Over all it's very good. We really need the props released to finish the build correctly.

Cool...I don't think SlimKat or CM11 builds had the transparency enabled(may have changed since I last tried them) so this would be good way for people to check that out since the word is it won't be enabled on the Nexus 10 when Google releases.

I better double check. If it isnt I will fix and upload. I thought I did it but was a late night...lol
edit.. it wasn't done. But it's being uploaded right now with it done. Also, swapped out to have the stock native wallpaper_default.jpg. Should be done in less then 10 minutes and will update the op after.
Hoping to have fixed the USB OTG problem too.

Thanks for your work! Sounds like the official 4.4 is rolling out already. Looking forward to the final product!
It would be nice to get the binaries so we can have a proper AOSP build.
I will be working on this tomorrow afternoon. Got the ota updated and system pulled. Now that we have full props we can polish off this aosp. You'd be surprised how similar this really was. Hope the props fix the video glitches.

4.4 binaries have been posted by google. I should have a release sunday. Couple busy days ahead. Have the reboot to recovery working but once I added a system pull binaries it wouldnt boot. So need to dig in to see if we need a new kernel. Either way good days ahead.
edit: Ok, factory images have been released for us. But, there is also a new build tag for the manta. Will be release 4.4 r1.1. It contains a different kernel as suspected. SInce this is the case, I decided to just start fresh with a new sync.

Woohoo, we have a full booted pure aosp 4.4 r1.1
Will post link in op..give me a few
Edit..Youtube app works great. Now the fun begins. I want to keep this as close to pure as possible. The 4-1 reboot menu and OTG is a must. but then just transitions and stuff like that. Have fun with the rom gang.

Gotchya, I'll give it a shot once Mediafire starts working. It seems to be down for maintenance. If I may ask, how does the performance compare to 4.3? I ask because I'm hearing conflicting reports of being fast and the same for some.
EDIT: It won't work on TWRP?

I think with ART vs dalvik there seems to be a boost. It runs smooth as silk. Also, I have Google home installed and it settled down now where the keyboard stops popping up when you hit the home button.
Only think I see not working so far is the tap n pay in settings. Says services not installed.
Even the print seems good once you install an HP print app. Synced right up to my printer. Its work a full wipe then flash ROM, gapps, and then su. Make sure you back up. But I wanted a fresh install for KitKat anyway.
Edit... I don't think twrp updated the recovery yet for KitKat. Use a cwm 6.0.4 version and its golden

I just installed this about 30 minutes ago and so far its running great. I am using ART instead of Dalvik and it runs really well and smooth. There was only a small sluggishness to it for me when I would go left to Google Now, but after using it for a little while it seems to have gotten better.
Youtube worked awesome and so has everything else, Gmail, Chrome, Google Plus, etc. The transparency looks amazing on this tablet, great job!! As of right now this rom's a keeper for me.
Edit* I also installed this with the newest CWM. I tried using TWRP yesterday on a few other 4.4 roms and it would fail each time.

New feature as of 10/10/14
Plain-Tweak:
Ever wanted to control your kernel from a file on your internal storage? Now you can! There are currently 3 different ways
1.) Manually create a text file on the root of /sdcard named 'plaintweak' with the following values:
gov=(your choice of governor)
maxkhz=(max cpu clockrate for all cores)
minkhz= (min cpu clockrate for all cores)
scheduler=(choice of IO scheduler)
tcpcong=(choice of TCP Congestion control)
2.)Invoking the instruction 'plaintweak' with adb shell or Terminal Emulator.
3.)Separate aroma package for your device(not yet created) or through the rom installer.
When I run 'plaintweak' from aroma package adb shell or Terminal Emulator wouldn't it get overwritten?
No! Not at all. Your old settings are saved at /sdcard/plain-tweak listed by date.
Don't like the values? Want a different configuration? Rather use Performance Control or another app?
Simply rename your current plaintweak file or move an older plaintweak file located in /sdcard/plain-tweak to root of /sdcard.
Custom Density
Currently 3 different ways to set
This can be controlled via the aroma package installer, abd shell/terminal emulator, or through placeholder file
/sdcard/customdensity that contains "customdensity=<value>"
If value is less than 180 it will not set. If value has a difference of 180 from default it will not set. May take 2 reboots to also set properly if using placeholder file only.
With adb shell/terminal emulator:
'buildproptweaks density *180 and up in values of 20 per se
buildproptweaks density 200 then reboot
Custom bootanimation
Must be 1080x1920 and placed at /sdcard/bootani/bootanimation.zip
Bootanimation disabling
There is 3 different ways to disable it.
1. Through aroma installer package
2. With adb shell/terminal emulator:
2a. type in 'bootanimation' it will toggle
2b. type in 'buildproptweaks bootanim [en|dis]able'
Just a little background for this project. With CM dropping legacy support, I started building up a huge kang for the most stability for the HTC Rezound. I found a good mix and stuck with it. FIgure why not bring it over to my new device, so here I am today. As far as my background, got my start in android all the way back to the original droid 1 with slight themeing, jumped up to the HTC Rezound started doing kernel work there alongside minor rom work and now using the LG G2.
Please bring some feedback I WANT TO HEAR IT. This is a heavy mixture and a kang of a ton of different roms. I still have to fix theme manager so bear with me as this is my first ever AOSP rom built. I am now minorly based off AOKP & OmniRom, with some VanirAOSP-esque tweaks written by myself with a few optimizations found that in cumulative. I am big on doing bash scripting and doing command line work.
Hope you enjoy!

Got a little optimization mainly stuff that's not customizations wise. Custom GCC stuff like that. Very vanilla for the most part though. I do have quick dim/bright statusbar control in settings->display. Battery around lock ring on lockscreen.
Good stuff. Glad you are deving for us. What kernel is baked in with this?

CM for now.
Found another bug guys; USB tethering likes to drop when the screen sleeps and fixing theme manager as we speak.
Up and running. This ROM flies! For those of you who don't know, Snuzzo is an android Jedi. We are super lucky to have him deving for us. Welcome and thank you!

Thank you @Mindrocket
Not bad for the initial build without nearly any device maintenance done? Am I right? Quick band-aid for the USB tethering; check off stay awake in dev options.
OK to use on G2 that didn't take the 12B update? Would love to give it a shot.

EDIT: never mind, re-download flashed fine!

Read OP. Unmount system prior to flashing a second time if first flash comes back failed. I also always put up an md5sum file alongside the zip.
@Xsoldier2000
Should flash the Rez build just for S&G. So happy to see some of the familiar faces, even though you only posted a few times I do remember you.

HA! You still have the Rezzy? Even with all yours and Newts contributions...the rezound was a hot mess that i couldn't wait to unload...and yes I was more of a lurker then...have learned a lot since then.
Again, welcome and cant wait to see what you do to this awesome device.
is this based on r1 or r2? I prefer roms based on r2, all of which seem more fluent and stable...i have had less or zero SoDs, reboots and freezes with roms based off r2
Looks like i picked the right phone. Snuzzo has one. Cant wait to try this out.
Thanks dude
Saw vigor in the downloads folder and it brought me back..

Working great so far!
Been using it for a day now. Haven't run into any problems yet, and is fast and smooth. Thanks bro!
Just wanted to share that this Android L theme works well. I'm using it for everything but boot animation and icons. Plus it's free.
Got a build working with Linaro and @lovejoy777's 777 Kernel.

If you email the VP, they will cusotmize your options... I had, I think, 80+GB and 4gb ram for around $15-20 /mo. That was about a year ago since I had it so I don't remember exactly. I compiled 4.2/4.3 ROMs in like 15-30 minutes after repo sync was full.

I recommend a clean flash if coming from another ROM.
hi
I am interested on this rom and i wonder if someone has test it already.
i am running slimkat which is pretty good but starts lagging with time.
Do you have the same behavior with this one?
Is this one compatible with ART?

I can tell it starts lagging when you dirty flash a dew times. That's why I haven't pushed an update in a while.

Just installed this and initial impression is that it works great. Didn't touch my Kindle Fire for a year and i can see there are a lot of improvements made in this time.
I'll keep you posted on the long term (and gaming) performance (installing heartstone and the cave right now).
(Modern) gaming didn't work, heartstone didn't start en the cave has low fps and crashes after 2 minutes. Maybe a little bit too ambitious.
Battery life is much better then before. Only installed Gapps and one google account sync. After 24h on standby (wifi was enabled) i still got 30% battery.
Nothing compares to cm7 on the his device even though it sucks. 2 weeks battery.
