[Q] Can't add or edit APN settings...HELP!!! - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Ok so the APN settings on my phone appear to be locked or something. The only option I have is to restore to default. I can not add or edit apn settings! I have tried different ROMs and some other tweaks I have read and nothing will fix this!
Can anyone help me? I mean is this a Verizon security measure that can not be undone or can it be undone? I'm about ready to get rid of the phone at this point!

You don't edit them anymore. You need to go to mobile networks- network preferences and hit the three dot menu button. Click add and then operator list. You then add the carrier you want from the list. Then reboot and the apn for your new carrier will be there. They made it so all apns are loaded and known by the phone. You just have to select the right operator. They don't want people manually editing apns when you shouldn't have to in the first place.

So what operator should I put in for Straight Talk??? At&t or do they have a ST one?

^ that doesn't work on my Verizon HTC One M7. i can't add any network operator. Verizon has certainly fine something to this phone. there was another thread earlier with a lot of people having the same problem.

I have a couple hundred operators in my list when I select add and try to add operator. Tmobile and att have like 15 per. I would be willing to bet one of them is the mvno settings for straight talk.

So when you hit the three button menu you don't have the option to select operator list?

Nope. Just add and edit and they are greyed out

Do you have a SIM card in the phone right now? I have a non activated vzw SIM in mine. If I take it out I get no options. May need to have a used/New vzw SIM in there to get it switched if the straight talk SIM doesn't give you any options.

EDIT: i had posted about this before in this thread (with pics).

I would bet if you guys got a vzw sim in there you could add your network and put your SIM in later.

Well I have the same problem trying to get apn for Mobistar network in Belgium. For reference, this is using a SIM card that has worked in the past with earlier version when manual "add apn" option was still available.
When the mobistar sim is in, I have the same problem reported before. Preferred network list is empty -- but gives me a message that it is full (!) and when trying to add network manually I get a message telling me it's full and it does not stick. I would have to assume the "feature" is sim card related and not available on that sim card. Hence the "list is full message"...
When I put the Verizon sim card back in, I get the preferred network list OK. I can add the mobistar network to the list. However when I put the mobistar sim card back in still no luck. I still have the wrong APN. Also preferred network list is back to blank. Again the list seems to be stored on the sim card, so bottom line is whitout a sim card with that feature I don't see how it would work. I will have to test this with a new sim card from Mobistar, although probably not this time (I am only here for a week for business meetings).
Also for what it's worth, with the verizon sim in, the new network added to the list does not stick when I reboot the phone.
Bottom line: <sarcasm>one on Verizon's usual great improvement</sarcasm>. If it's working, break it, right?

Actually I think Verizon just doesn't want people to use their devices on other networks. Especially since they have a contract with Vodafone to handle global capabilities. I'm surprised you guys having APN issues don't use a gsm phone instead. They are much more user friendly on other networks.

Well you might give them too much credit for breaking things on purpose instead of by accident. It is worth nothing it only occurs in 4.4.3; I had a nandroid backup with 4.4.2 and went back to that since I remembered it was working fine before. I can confirm there is no problem adding the apn in 4.4.2.
Yes it is strange to use gsm with Verizon but I actually find Verizon world phones to be quite good (until this recent apn issue). The global capabilities work fine and can save you in a pinch (but not good for extended stays due to cost). Or more likely I am too lazy to change carrier...

After doing some googling it would appear this issue also affects the m8 since 4.4.3. Most likely it is an issue from HTC not Verizon.

From what I can remember, all I could do is put it to the top of the list -- not sure what other selection there is. But then when I rebooted it was gone from the list. It doesn't seem to stick. I am now back on 4.4.2 so unfortunately I can't investigate any longer. But I have a working internet connection...
Hopefully the add apn setting was removed by mistake in 4.4.3 and will be back in the next release. For now the word should be that those that need the feature should stick to 4.4.2 if they can.

yes, the APN settings don't want to stick after the reboot. i put my Verizon SIM in, changed the network settings, turned the phone off, put Rogers SIM in, turned the phone on, and puff, nothing is there.
is there a way to put 4.4.2 on the phone? mine is completely stock.

Have you s-off'd? If not, use sunshine to get s-off and downgrading will then be an option.

no, the phone is completely stock. from what i've read here, sunshine is the only method, am i right? i will use it either to install stock 4.4.2 or to install other ROMS, but i haven't done anything of that sort yet (i've bootloader-unlocked, through HTCDev, my other phone HTC One S, and i've rooted it, but that's all i've done). is being S-OFF the only requirement for installing another ROM?

SIM card - after XTC clip unlock

Has anyone tested a SIM card in the Inc2 after using the XTC Clip? I have one that didn't seem to work which I attributed to being older and provisioned for a BB. However, I tried an original Verizon SIM card and I still get the same errors:
1. No Network is ever found
2. When going to GSM Call Settings - "Network or SIM card error."
Does anyone have any comments or different experience with it?
Thanks, Matt.

which ROM are you trying this on? XTC clip is a full NAND and SIM unlock should work.. strange.
I've tried it only on the nandroid backup I did of my system before trying other ROMs - currently only plainjane roms support SIM cards, but I cannot install them either (see my post in that thread). I would really like to see CM7 support the SIM.
I know that the clip successfully unlocked the SIM, because before my card would give an error; something like its not a valid SIM card even though it would ask me for my PIN at reboot.
Now, it doesn't pop up the error after a reboot, but still asks me for my PIN...so it sees it. Its just when changing to GSM/UTMS mode that I get the network/SIM error.
I'm going to try with a buddy's SIM that I know works in his iPhone so i'll see what happens.
I was just wondering if anyone else had tried it yet.
Thanks, Matt.

Nice, am interested to see what would happen and if that works!

OK, don't have a known-good SIM card to try yet, but I tried changing the mode to GSM/UMTS only on a stock INC2 with the stock verizon SIM card and it had the same behavior as mine - "SIM card or network error".
I will get an AT&T SIM card from an iPhone to try hopefully this week, but I wonder if its a provisioning issue with the SIM? Anyone have a SIM they can try with a rooted/XTC clip s-off'ed INC2?
Thanks, Matt.
VERY interesting...looks like verizon is doing some trickery in the radio firmware - I'm willing the be the same thing is going on here. I'd love to solve this before I leave for Europe next week, but if not I'll update the thread with what I find using my SIM card aborad.

After unlock by xtc clip not success . I buy unlock code
but
Ive recently unlocked gsm , but can't change to GSM mode ( always show CDMA mode)
change to GSM mode , Incredible 2 show
"there is no Sim Card on your device . Your device will switch to CDMA mode now"
try another Sim card , change to GSM mode ,still show ""there is no Sim Card on your device . Your device will switch to CDMA mode now""
My incredible 2 , new in a box 100%
Unlocked by code
Solution ??? help
I think you hardware is just fine, but the radio firmware is filtering out any US GSM carrier codes - essentially making GSM operation in the US impossible.
However, I think there must be a software or radio solution to this.
I am an inc2 Verizon customer. I called Verizon and got an unlock code easily. I have a T-Mobile prepaid similar that I put in and it works perfectly. I switched to GSM and made a call without issue.
Next I added the apn in settings for data, bought a web daypass, and data also worked.
I live in an edge only area or I would test for 3g. Ill update if I travel to an area that has it.
T-Mobile US bands work fine though
At&t sim works, tested today.

Do you get EDGE/1X or 3g/HSPA with ATT sim?
I believe it was edge, but I'm not familiar with AT&T in the area so I'm not sure if that is normal or not. I was more concerned with the overall ability to use a non-verizon SIM.

hey..so did u ever go back to the sims that didn work in the first place n check? as in..after u got it working with your friend's at&t sim?

need help figuring this out with my sim

i have the gt-i9250 and i always used an at&t sim with it with out an issue, recently i wanted to switch to t-mobile (thinking the phone should be unlocked considering it was an international phone and was the yakjuxw than i flashed it to yakju which was wierd cause i had google wallet on it and it was working fine although i only thought it was compatible with takju, but anyway all and all i put it to the usa firmware of takju 4.0.4 not going to jellybean yet, but my issue is that i am not able to use the t-mobile sim card in it and i get this (look at screenshot where signal is) what does this mean and how come i cant get signal, when i go to settings and mobile networks it shows me the apn for t-mobile us but not selected so i select it than after i go to mobile networks and it shows t-mobile and at&t and when i click any of them they tell me its unable to connect and it cant connect to the network at this time, so what would this mean and how would i fix it so that i can use it with my t-mobile sim card, also i flashed the newer NA radio uglc1.
That is weird. It should work on either of them. It just means you have no signal. That is strange. You could've actually just popped the Sim right in. It didn't matter if you were using a ROM

Is the SIM activated for sure? I know when I switched to the T-mobile $30 plan it took it a good 15 minutes or so to activate, and then I didn't actually get signal until rebooting the phone for whatever reason.
Did you reboot your phone?
Although you can sometimes hot plug a sim card by turning on flight mode, taking the sim card out and toggling flight mode a few times, it won't work sometimes.
probably your cell imei not free and therefore can not change your sim.
There is an application called "****docomo" worth to release the imei. Make a backup just in case

Don't think he has a SIM unlock problem. Considering that it was working with AT&T, which never had a locked version of the GNex, I think he's having another issue.
I'd tell the OP to make 100% sure that his new T-Mobile SIM is activated and not defective, then try a few reboots and swaps back to the old SIM and do some troubleshooting. If it's the phone and not the SIM, its likely a mobile network registration error or an APN issue.
Looking in the notification bar, it seems like the phone doesn't think there's even a SIM inserted. Make sure you didn't damage a pin in the SIM tray, and that the SIM is properly inserted and clean. I don't think you'd get this error of "no SIM" if your phone was locked. If that was the case, the phone would recognize the SIM and prompt for an unlock code, which you're not getting.

No Unlock Prompt

Hey guys,
I'm knew to these forums and I just made the switch from an iphone to the galaxy s3. My dad is with Rogers and he gave me his Samsung Galaxy s3 i747m. I'm with Fido and I purchased a unlock code from cellunlocker.net. The issue I am having is that when I put in my foreign sim card there is no prompt that asks for me to insert an unlock code. Can anyone help me out?

Do you mean just powering the phone on and off? Yes I did that already and I've tried these codes from the dialling screen:
#7465625*638*UNLOCKCODE#
#0111*UNLOCKCODE#
#7465625*638*#
Fido, being a Rogers subsidiary, might not need an unlock for a Rogers phone. (Just an educated guess on my part.)
Is the SIM working for you? Are you getting network access? If so, can you find another SIM to try (perhaps enlist a friend's help), and if not, are you perhaps on a non-stock ROM, most of which have issues with the unlock screen?

I think this is actually the case. I get a signal but my data/3G/HSPA doesn't really work...I read somewhere its probably because my SIM card has been on an iphone for so long that I need to get a new one. Do you think this would help?
You need a different SIM
I went through the same problem (trying to unlock my Rogers S3 for Fido). Because Fido and Rogers are sister companies, a Fido SIM won't bring up the prompt. The phone will work for voice on Fido but not for data until you unlock it.
You need to run out and get a prepaid SIM for a different carrier (I chose a Bell one), or put one in if you have one lying around. The Bell SIM cost me about $10.50. Reboot with that inserted, and the prompt will come up where you can enter your code. Then, you can reboot with your Fido SIM inserted and all will be well.
If you can't get data at that point, make sure the APN settings are correct for Fido. You'll be good to go at that point.

Hey so yeah I got the unlock prompt to come out. What APN settings? My data is still kinda messed/doesn't work.
Go into System Settings, then More Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names
Sometimes, "Fido Internet" or "Fido LTE" shows up automatically. If it doesn't, click the Menu button, then Add, then use the settings found on this page:
[I'm not allowed to post links, so Google fido apn settings unlocked device, and click the first link]
Go to "How to configure an Android device." Don't use LTEMOBILE.APN unless you have LTE in your area. When you're done entering, hit the Menu button, then Save, and make sure it's selected in the list. It should start working right away!

[Q] Verizon HTC ONE can't add new APN

hi, I have verizon htc one running on stock 4.4.3, sense 6.0. I want to use it in europe on gsm network, voice and text works perfectly, but I can not use data because I can't add new APN. there is not options to add new one in access point names. when press on three dots just comes up "reset to default". so what should I do now?
I would call vzw to unlock your SIM, then plug in a prepaid SIM from a local European carrier.

I have this same issue. I was already overseas, and couldn't add or edit the APN I needed to use for O2.
I've called Verizon multiple times and they say "it's already unlocked" over and over again.
Is there anybody out there with a Verizon HTC One and is able to edit the APN data? If so, what did you do to get the phone to allow you to do that?
same here. using a Verizon HTC One (M7) on Rogers network in Canada. i cannot edit the existing APN or add a new one at all. i am connected to the internet, but it shows an 'E' instead of '4G', and it's very slow. any work arounds?
also, when i try changing Network Preferences and adding Rogers' MNC, (302720), it tells me my Network Preferences list is full and won't save anything when, in fact, it's actually completely empty! any ideas?

Does Rogers use LTE band 13? If not, you will not get 4G. As for HSPA/3G for GSM, the phone only has 900 and 2100 mhz for it. So if your carrier doesn't support those frequencies, you are stuck on edge (E).
http://www.htc.com/us/smartphones/htc-one-m7/
Specs tab shows the frequencies I discussed that the phone can support.
Edit: I also put this info on our Q&A thread.
Q2: can I SIM unlock this phone for other carriers?
The m7wlv comes SIM unlocked out of the box. It only works on certain frequencies. See if your carrier supports the below frequencies.
CDMA: 800/1900MHZ,
UMTS/HSPA: 900/2100MHz,
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900MHz,
LTE: 700MHz (Band 13)(only Verizon uses this LTE band thus far)

Did you go to network preferences and click add....then click operator list. Scroll down the monster list and add Rogers wireless? Once you add it you need to reboot for the apns to autopopulate. With the new way of doing it they autopopulate.

Screenshot?
here (as you can see, the list is empty, but it's telling me that it's full!):
and when i add Rogers Wireless by entering the MCC / MNC manually, i'll get this:
and going back to the previous page gives this message:
also, i cannot edit or add any APNs at all.
i'm sure it's the phone. is it SIM locked? (it shouldn't be given that it's from Verizon, but i got it as a replacement from Verizon because my first one had a faulty GPS, and it was refurbished.)
any ideas?

When you click add.. don't click add network code. Click operator list.
i didn't click on anything. that's the window that pops up when i go t Network Preferences List. i cannot do anything else.
i really think it's a phone software issue (the same phone, using a Verizon SIM card, was able to connect to Rogers' 3G network while roaming)...something must have messed up the software. funny thing is that with the Verizon SIM card, i could look at the operator list and add/edit the APN and all that.
is there any way, short of a factory reset, to revert the settings back? could it be that the phone is really SIM locked?
Having the exact same problem
I'm having the exact same problems as those described above... I am on a fully stock Verizon M7 with the latest official release. Not rooted.
- cannot add new apn.... Option missing from he apn menu
- when i attempt to edit the existing apn, all i can do is edit one line... The apn itself. All other lines are grey and will not allow me to change the settings.
- with a non Verizon sim in the phone i was also having the " network list full" errors described above...
I was in Europe with Lebara mobile sim and was able to get on 3g but it was unstable as apn settings were incorrect and not editable. I was in the UK on a 3 mobile sim and all was the same. Now back in the US, the same problems above with apn add/edit are still there though my "available networks" settings are behaving normally with the Verizon sim in there.
IT must be something wacky with this build or Sense 6 as my GF is also on Verizon and her Razr Maxx had none of the above problems as she travelled with me with the same carrier sim cards as i was using.
yeah, it's very annoying. maybe we should contact Verizon to figure out what's going on.
Exact same problem - no option to add APN or add network

I have an HTC One with the exact same problem. It won't let me put in the proper settings to activate mobile data on the Mexican Telcel network. It was a Verizon phone which is unlocked and will do voice and text but since the APN settings are not allowed to be edited it is not data capable. I'm in Mexico for a few months and this is ridiculous. According to Verizon "of course your phone is unlocked. We haven't sold locked phones in years." I guess they aren't locked now they are disabled or crippled when you try to take them to other networks. BTW this isn't just a problem of us not knowing how to input APNs, this is the problem of the phone not allowing editing at all. Very, very frustrating. Especially when you find out that root is almost impossible when it has the latest over the air update.
Factory Reset Doex Not Fix This
Confirming that factory reset does not fix this. So don't waste your time... Ih yeah, and HTC backup and restore service is down until further notice... Another fun surprise
Maybe I'm wrong but I thought you needed to be boot loader unlocked and s off to edit the apn and mcc list since they are system level files. You need read/write ability for the system in order to do that which requires root.
nevermind

Phone Stuck Showing "Searching / No Service"

Hello all. I purchased a edge+ today but whenever I insert a sim, the phone stays on searching. I made sure that I rebooted the device and I also tried re-seating the sim many times. I believe the device is unlocked and the imei/esn is in clean standing with T-Mobile. I tried a MetroPCS sim card and it stayed on searching, same thing happened with a Verizon sim. However when I inserted the T-Mobile sim, it sometimes says no service but ever since I rebooted the device, it stays on "searching" no matter which sim is installed. I find this whole ordeal frustrating since the signal bars show up for the MetroPCS and T-Mobile sim but with Verizon nothing happens. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yours is G928T? If yes, it does not support Verizon/Sprint even if it's unlocked.
Did you buy it off of Craigslist/Ebay? It might be blacklisted. checkesnfree.com

Yes, it's the G928T but it's not blacklisted I checked. The simcards I was using on the phone were old ones(no longer in service) I thought they would work. I used a scissor to cut my WORKING sim and placed it in the phone and it took the MetroPCS sim. Everything works fine now except calls and text only work with WiFi Calling on. If I turn off WiFi, I can't text or make calls(not on registered network) but if I turn the WiFi back on, it works fine. Any suggestions?
MetroPCS and T-Mobile are on the same network.
Check/add MetroPCS APN.
Setting -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names
Add MetroPCS APN if it's not there.

Yeah I know they are which baffles me as to why it isn't working. I tried adding a custom APN but same thing happens. I get calls/sms on WiFi but if I turn it off I get "No Service"
Just go to metro and get a new Sim. You could have damaged it by cutting it. It should be free. ATT gives me then free all the time. Usually, the phone will just auto update the apn settings when a specific carriers Sim is inserted

I went and it turns out the device is blacklisted. This whole time I was rolling with the imei in the phone, after checking last night, I noticed that the imei on the back of the device differs from the one that's actually on the software. I was able to get in touch with the seller and he's coming back to give me my money back. Guess a mod can mark this thread closed.
