So I finally got the official KitKat uptade from LG for LG-E977 model, and the device will be completely stock. How do I root the device in KK? Towelroot, Framaroot? How do I root and unlock the bootloader after rooting, is it the same as with stock JellyBean? Thanks in advance.
edit: Neither Framaroot neither Towelroot worked, but someone suggested ioroot and it worked fine. Link:

After this, just download SuperSU from Play Store and then Freegee to install stock CWM recovery.

I hav a question how did u flash back to zv7 and if you did then do you need to be on zvd or u can be on any rom?
I've rooted with Towelroot, but I still have stock ROM. Will I be able to OTA to Lollipop? If not, is it enough to uninstall Towelroot, or do I have to flash a factory ROM?
Unrooting alone won't allow you to install OTAs because Towelroot changes partitions. You will need to flash a stock ROM.
Towelroot won't work with lollipop either.
Time to unlock the bootloader
Solved
Seems like you were wrong about Towelroot stopping OTA. Just got the 5.0.2 OTA and updated without any problems. Just had to click on update.

Did you lose root? Just curious. I flashed mine manually awhile back and have since moved on to CM12. Towelroot doesn't work on lollipop, I used Chainfires CF-Auto-root.
Hi all,
I've been away from XDA for a while. meantime, my phone went back to stock and upgraded to the latest official E98820C-SEA-XX version. Now I got spare time to play with my phone and it won't allow me to root.
I've tried TowelRoot, Stomp Root and SRS One Click too. All of them cannot help. Is there any other way to root the phone in current state or do I need to downgrade it back to 4.1.2 and then root it?
thanks and regards,
Spidy.
Edit:
now I can root successfully by F240 method. But still not able to flash a suitable recovery. FreeGee is not supported on this rom.

and now I am a step away from installing a custom recovery but which one and how? I have checked here a lot but some say use Freegee to do the rest but freegee hangs up and goes into a constant reboot so I had to install 10P all over again. Which recovery is to be installed and how? Any links to flashable recoveries would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Which phone are you using and which rom? If your using stock rom, jb is the easiest to root and install the recovery with freegee. Make sure you have root, and installed the busybox before you use freegee.

I have the G Pro and the 10P ROM. I installed everything as you said and rooted the phone with towelroot, installed busybox and then freegee but no dice. Thanks.
You can download cwm flashable image for lg flash tool from clockworkmod's web site. Is 10p the stock kk? You need 10g which is the stock JB and go from there.

I have a G3 in white running 10r. To get root should I do the downgrade method or do any existing root tools manage to get root on Lolipop? LP is 20b baseband, correct?
EDIT: I just used LG Root Script v1.2 and it worked perfectly. Got root, installed Flashify from the app store and used that to install TWRP 2.8.6.0. Literally the easiest root -- installing recovery on any device ive ever owned
